Mac Mini loses the connection to the internal hard drive

Hello

I got in trouble once per day or almost one year that my Mini mac interrupts the communication with the hard drive. You can work away and all of a sudden all gel applications. Say, you happen to have a terminal open, if you try to execute commands in / sbin as stop or something like that, it is to say that you don't have access to the files with an error like this:

bash: / sbin/shutdown: device not configured

Finally the Terminal Server session freezes as well.

I used the Apple Diagnostics for all the materials and it test verifies all very well. I bought and installed a copy of TechTools Pro (v8.0.3 build 1967) and he reported no problem whatsoever with everything. To be on the safe side, I replaced the memory, still no luck.

I've lived a lot of system updates and none of them seem to have solved the problem. I am currently on OS X El Capitan v10.11.5 Beta (15F18c). Yes I know it's beta, but this problem before any release of El Capitan.

The most reliable way to reduce the appearance of it during my work day is a reboot planned each night. For one reason or another, which reduces the frequency.

I am at a loss on how to fix this and would appreciate any advice.

Material is a Mac mini (end of 2012), the processor is an Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz, is now 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory, graphic is Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB, storage is a 500.11 SATA GB Apple drive ST500LM012 HARD drive

Thanks in advance.

Maybe a bad connection tight to the HD. It could be the end of the water which connects to the system board. I had similar symptoms on my Mini 2012 and it is in this regard.  Like you if I stop and then after awhile restarted, it would be OK for a while.

It could also be a problem with the HD

I've owned an HP Pavilion dm1-LQ862PA #UUF, used to be windows 7-64 bit. the internal hard drive has been corrupted and recommended to replace another. they were asking for the backup cd and I failed to do, and I do not regret it. Well, except to lose all my files and programs that I installed, it will also include bluetooth, wi - fi and other important built in programs? I'm not a computer expert. If ever these important programs had totally disappeared, how retrieve it? my laptop in an HP authorized service center will be probably expensive and I decided to buy a new HARD drive and ask someone to put it in and install a new OS. Please help thanks

    Hello:

There is a support for your PC page where all the software drivers to run the hardware on your PC such as bluetooth and wireless can be reinstalled.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/WC/product?product=5079502 & CC = US & DLC = in & LC = on & query = LQ862PA & Tool=.

What I don't see is the availability of recovery disks to reinstall the operating system (windows 7 64-bit) or your PC programs (other than those listed in the link of support above).

This means that if you want to replace the hard drive, you must make your own W7 64-bit installation media and use the 7 product key of Microsoft windows on the bottom of your PC to activate the installation.

That assumes you can read all 25 characters of the product key windows 7.

    Here's how...

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

The replacement hard drive should be a 320 GB SATA II 5 400 rpm Disk If you want the same specification provided with your PC hard drive.

Please refer to Chapter 4 of the service manual on the link below for the procedures for removal and replacement of the hard disk.

  • PC tries to boot from external USB instead of the internal hard drive at startup

Hi, I just took delivery of a refurbished Pavilion p6793. I noticed that the system does not boot if I have my external USB drive connected. It happens with one cannot find the message of charger and asks me to hit ctrl-alt-del to restart. I suspect it's because it's the search for the o/s on USB instead of the internal hard drive. Can you tell me what I need to check and change to allow me to boot from the hard drive even if the drive is connected. Thank you.

    Hello:

You should probably go into your BIOS by pressing F10 at HP welcome screen and changing the options in the start for the HDD menu start the first.

Then you can set the boot for other devices as you order please.

Make sure that you save your settings, where you made the change, and again when you go out.

When you specifically want to start on a device, press the F9 key to the HP welcome screen and you will be presented with a single boot options menu where you can choose from any one of the bootable devices listed.

  • Windows 7 loses the secondary hard drive

This has been a problem, I don't know why I waited this long to ask about it.

My secondary hard drive keep endangered of Windows 7, as if someone unplugged spontaneously, except that it's still there.

This problem can be resolved by restarting just the computer, and it can remain correct for a few minutes, a few hoursor a few days, but it still exists, usually several times a week.

I checked all connections and even swapped the cables. There is nothing wrong with the drive itself, I can put it in another computer without this problem occurring. I also tried to move to an another empty SATA connection on the motherboard without success.

I do not use the drive on a regular basis and bought only so that the steam and the game files that are, (and now the original since I finally broke down and got Mass Effect 3 despite efforts to avoid EA "me too!" steam clone.) were not cluttering up my main hard drive.

But when I decide to take a load off and play games, I like for the reader to be there without needing a reboot, it can so be a little frustrating because it's usually when I am stressed already :)

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

    Disks RAID configured hard two?

Internal hard disks connect to the motherboard of your computer using an IDE or SATA interface interface. Most new hard drives come with an IDE or SATA connection cable, depending on the type of drive.

Install an internal hard disk takes a bit more work, especially if you plan to make the new disk your primary hard disk where you install Windows. Drive hard internal jumpers that you set to configure the main hard drive (master) disk where you install Windows or a secondary (slave) drive where you store programs and files. For the diagnosis of your problem, I suggest trying the following methods and check if the number is reproduced.

    Method 1:

Check if you are able to view the second hard disk (HDD) in Device Manager. If so, try to change drive letter assignments in Windows 7. See the following steps:

    (a) connect to the computer as an administrator.

    (b) click Start, right-click computerand then click Manage.

    (c) click on disk management.

    (d) right click on the volume of the secondary HDD that you want to change and then click change drive letter and paths.

    (e) double click on the secondary drive, click change, click the drive letter that you want to use and then click OK.

    Additional information:
Change, add, or remove a drive letter
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter

If method 1 does not resolve the problem, go to method 2.

    Method 2:

I suggest you try to check the secondary hard drive to find errors.

    Consult the following link:

Check your hard drive to find errors in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2641432/en-us

Warning: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

If method 2 does not work, go to method 3.

    Method 3:

Try to run a scan of the file system (CFS) auditor to check any file corruption:

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, click OK, or alternatively click on Yes.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

  • has had to replace the internal hard drive! need help!

Hi, laptop HP HDX - 1056CA

My internal hard drive is totally dead after 2 years (warranty expired), and I had to replace it. I dropped in the new hard drive. But I don't know what are my next steps

Do I really need to refer to the recovery discs - and they will work on a new hard drive? -I don't mind send away if that's what is needed, but I can't recover my old data, I hope that I can just download the drivers and leave with the machine... (also I go to work on Monday for 2 weeks at an oil rig, records will not be here in time and I won't be able to stay in touch with my friends and my family like the network is very limited as to what we can access if the computers in the Organization).

can I use my desk top of the page to download and burn the recovery discs? can someone link me to the right place (HP HDX16 - 1056CA).

My other question is that I have upgraded to windows 7 from Vista, when I ask to do recovery disks I have ask for the vista version and upgrade again (will be microsoft / the computer accepts the only time only upgrading key again?)  or should I go for the version of windows 7?  I need to re install the windows original vista and then switch again to win7, being that the computer has been configured for vista before the upgrade.

Thank you very much for any help or insight people can give me! I really appreciate it!

    Hi all

I had a BBQ and three guests oil and gas software and refused to feed them until thelaptop has been fixed.

They threw the XP disc across the room and were able to start the player directly at the exit of the disk upgrade of windows 7 using the Custom Installation option.

I'm afraid I can't give you more information, others that there is no need to first load the XP or the use of the USB box with the zip file in in order to recognize that the new installation drive.

  • Cannot access the files from the internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead

I can't access the files from an internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead. I think that my files are still there, as shown in the volume of the player volume ~ 500 gb which is almost completely full. But I can't access most files, including documents and settings. When I took 'ownership' of the folder, I could open the TI but then it showed everything that was in my documents and settings on the computer file I used to open it, not the documents of the car.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.

  • How can I move the internal hard drive containing the LR catalog to become external hard drive?

I'm upgrading to a new computer.  With this approach, I took the hard drive 1 TB "internal" hard with my LR catalog and pictures from my old computer and hooked up as a hard drive on the new computer.   My next step is to load CC Lightroom on the internal drive of the new computer and remove the software from the old hard drive, which is now just a disk storage external photo.

Then, the tricky part where I need help.  How LR to recognize the existing catalog on what is now the external hard drive?

    Thank you

As DJ says, double-click the catalog on the external hard drive.

Or, in the menu of LR, / file/open/and navigate on the external drive.

Whatever it is, after the opening of the catalog, you will need to go to the library, Panel folders module and 'find missing' on each top-level to tell LR you folders, move the folders on the external drive.

  • Is it possible to work on projects iMovie on external hard drives in order to save disk space on my macbook (the internal hard drive has little space)?

    Hello!

I have a problem working with iMovie on my MacBook Air... Drive HARD internal of the MacBook is unfortunately to small for the biggest projects iMovie... Is there a way to work on external hard drives or perhaps TimeCapsule?

Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, put your iMovie library/ies on a fast (7200 RPM) external hard drive to the Apple format is a good way of working.  Details of the setting up of libraries are covered in the help files to:

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/Mac/10.1/#/mov3fa25bae7

Note that you may need to consolidate the media in an existing library before you travel to avoid breaking links to media located in the libraries from other Apple applications.  See:

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/Mac/10.1/#/mov882dee351

I would not recommend using Time Capsule - you would need a separate partition above the used by time machine, and you could put some data on the same drive as backup.  Connection speed can also be a problem.

  • Unable to format or use the internal hard drive

I have a 2007 MacBook that was running on a replacement HD (500 GB) 10.6.8.  I got a new MB Air and want to wipe the HD and reinstalling the system, so my children can use the old MB.  The MacBook was working fine when I started this process.  When I started with the original and selected installation disk utility disk to erase the disk, erase failed with a "input/output error.  I can't format the drive and I can't even choose the drive to re - install without erasing the disc (no drive does appear in Setup).  What happens every time that I try it now.

Now I can't even use the HD to start the MacBook.  Utility of disk can see the drive, but it appears as a 3.6 TB drive, not a 500 GB drive, and is only a single line in the sidebar (typically there are two lines per disc).  Info is supported if I don't care if I lose everything, but I would like to be able to use the drive as it should be a computer budget.  Partitioning does nothing, fail all attempts to clear it.  Next step is probably to remove it and try to erase its content in an external enclosure.

Can someone explain what could happen?  Why doesn't the drive suddenly stop working to the point of not even be recognized correctly when minutes before it worked fine?  And what I can do about it?

    Thank you.

Reading input output error errors are for the most part. Which usually means a failing drive. A tool like DiskWarrior could fix, but you can (on Ebay) pick up a drive used for this price. Readers can fail with or without warning. It will sometimes lag and hard starts spinning beach balls and no start of the thread. Or you run it, close it and then the next time it starts, it will not work. Disc utilities will usually fix this kind of error. The only work around in utilities is to perform a full disc erase and distribution, if possible.

    for the readers of plateau...

You can use any 2.5 ", height 9.5 mm SATA drive. I got one for hitachi travelstars (now owned by western digital), which were originally ibm. others have all also good luck with (and loyalty towards) other brands. Choose your ability, the speed, the size of the cache, etc. of many online merchants have a good selection.

    for SSDS.

same features as physical size above. you will need to do research in reliability, chip controller oddities, etc., but they get a lot more reliable. they need it another type of disaster recovery plan, however, as failure means no data is salvageable I heard. with top readers, depending on the type of failure, some recovery is generally possible without resorting to expensive professional services.

for both types of readers, you should be able to use disks of 7 mm of height also long as you install the drive in the case of existing drive and use rubber track. This maintains alignment connector with the drive Bay.

Is it a good idea to replace the HARD drive with my documents, photos, etc. by another drive HARD internal with a higher rotation speed now, or which is better (?), by another internal drive flash SSD (and if so, can recommend me?)?
