  • Portege R600-11b - cannot install Adobe Acrobat 9 - ActiveX problem

I recently bought a Portege R600-11b and have tried to install Adobe Acrobat 9 on it by downloading it from the Adobe site.
I spent many fruitless hours talk to Adobe to try to solve this problem.

They concluded that my laptop is not compatible with the software.
This isn't the case, that this laptop exceeds the specification of systems required in all aspects.

The problem seems to be that it won't work ActiveX even after all the firewalls and anti-virus in disabled - I don't know hardly what to do - anyone has any suggestions please?

    > They concluded that my laptop is not compatible with the software.
    That s just absurd

The Adobe Acrobat Reader software is a small application and can be installed on almost all computers and systems so that s certainly not a reason why you are not able to install this software.

If this problem is related to the ActiveX, then you can change this in the settings of your internet browser.
For example, using the IE7 you could modify this here:
Tools-> Internet Options-> areas-> {}-> ActiveX controls and plug - ins area-> allow unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt

You can also try to clean the operating system and the registry because the problem might be related to faulty registry entries.
To do this, I would recommend using the free CCleaner tool.

Finally and above all it s always advisable to consult the homepage of support from software manufacturers. Here you will find some documents on installation with the Adobe Acrobat Reader software problems.

    Try this:

Direct download links for Adobe software

However if the check out fails, you can experience this same problem again. Store the gall in another location and clean a bit. You might simply be short of temp space or have a problem with permissions on the temp folder...

  • Cannot install Adobe Acrobat 5 because of Vista compatibility

I just replaced a XP Pro computer with a 32-bit Vista Business box. XP Pro had Acrobat 5 installed from the CD and more later put upgraded to Acrobat 7 via a download purchase. I have the serial number of the version 7 of the file, but the operation fails due to the absence of a software qualification (the previous version). While trying to install version 5, I get an error of this facility and Vista compatibility. I start here in case there is something with that Microsoft can help you, if not I will contact Adobe for help. Thanks, dave
PS. If it turns out that Acrobat 7 also has a compatibility issue in Vista, a possibility would be to downgrade to XP Pro.

Are you referring to the Acrobat authoring application, Yes (not Adobe Reader)?
If so, I'm sorry to inform you that even Acrobat 7 don't is not supported by Adobe under Vista - only version 8.1 or higher:
    Q. Adobe Acrobat 8 on Windows Vista support?
    A. prior to shipping in November 2006, Adobe has tested Adobe Acrobat 8 software on
beta versions of Windows Vista. We are now actively testing Acrobat on the shipping
editions of Windows Vista. Visitors can install and run Acrobat 8 today with some
known issues. (FND out more on these issues, please visit www.adobe.com/go/support and)
Search on the keyword Vista in the Adobe knowledge base). In the first half of 2007, we
Expect to issue a free update to Acrobat 8 to support Windows Vista.

Acrobat 7.0 and earlier versions do not support Windows Vista. Adobe does not provide for
release updates to Acrobat 7.0 and earlier for Windows Vista compatibility.
    (from http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/adobe_products_and_windows_vista.pdf )

You will need to contact Adobe for assistance - this isn't a matter of MS (much less a problem of 'Vista'), it is rather a question of Adobe.

    Chris

  • Cannot install Adobe Acrobat 10.

I bought Adobe Acrobat 10 in 2011, by downloading it from the Adobe Web site.

I have a new PC and can't find - anywhere - the program / file to download at Adobe.

I CAN find "update" for Acrobat 10 downloads, but not what we can call the program 'primary' or 'source '.

Does anyone know where is this file?

Adobe customer service Department refuses to help with this problem by phone.

  • Cannot install Adobe Acrobat 5.0

I could not install (Windows) Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (writer) to my MacBook OSX v.10.5.5 2 GHz Core 2 Duo with a XP Home installation made from a slipstreamed SP3 w disc.  VMware Fusion version is 2.0 (116369).

By research / original readme on the Acrobat disk, have closed and even deleted entirely all antivirus programs and is also installing in safe mode.  Manually removed by Acrobat disc readme uninst.ill.

Acrobat goes through the complete installation procedure, says it is installed. When I opened Acrobat, however, it only begins to open, going through only his first "open" screens, then just don't wear through open - flashes for a few seconds & disappears.    Acrobat shows as installed in Add/Remove programs.  Have not been able to find something really useful about this problem via Google searches.

Thanks much for any help.  Much, I use Acrobat to merge existing PDF files, add, remove pages, etc., the Mac built-in pdf maker is great, but is not able to do what I do on a regular basis.

Well, FWIW I just dug up an old drive Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 and installed in Windows XP Professional SP 2 without any problems.  Loading the program as scheduled and works as expected.  I choose to do an install custom and checked the PDF Writer files checkbox unchecked.

If the disc you have is 5.0.0 then download update Adobe a5u1t1.exe, and perhaps that will solve your problem.
