  • I have a problem starting up a Windows XP Pro Machine virtual Windows 8 host system (which has VMware Workstation 10.1).

I am new to the virtual machines.  For several months I've been running a Windows XP Virtual Machine in an old machine of Windows 7 with VMware Workstation 7.0.  The hard drive is having some problems at times, so I thought that I could move the virtual machine on a new computer that has an OS 8.1 Windows and VMware Workstation 10.  For example, on the Windows 7 machine, I copied the directory with all the * .vm files and pasted into the machine to Windows 8. But when I tried to start VMware Workstation 10 in Windows 8 machine, I got the message "this virtual machine policies are too old to be run by this version of VMware."  I went to the knowledge base and used the solution described here: I've deleted the lines of three 'policy' of the .vmx file and added the suffix .ancien to the .vmpl file, which actually disabled.  Now, when I try to start the virtual machine, the black screen appears with the VMware logo in the Center and everything seems fine, but Windows XP starts.  And logo VMware guard churning away as in a continuous loop.  It is not easy to stop.  The only way to stop VMware is via the Task Manager or restart the machine.

What must I do to get the Windows XP Pro VM to run in the new machine?

VMWare technical support suggested that I have disable 3D acceleration (VM > settings > view and uncheck the box 3D graphics acceleration).  The virtual machine starts now with some minor problems, but it is usable.  But by closing accel 3D turns, in the words of the Technical Support Engineer, David, that there is "a problem with the graphics card not imitate or through its capacity to the virtual machine.  In other words do not support to the VM guest 3D acceleration. "My next step is to make sure that I have the updated driver for the Intel HD Graphics 4600 display adapter.

    Minor problems are:

    (1) the virtual machine works best in screen mode reduced.  There are a few problems speed mode full-screen.

    (2) the VM will still work after switching on of the host.  But after execution of the virtual machine, if power you the virtual machine and the release of VMware workstation, then later, start the workstation, the virtual machine will power not.

To turn it on again you must out of VMware Workstation, disconnect the host machine and then reopen it in one.

I have at the bottom of this problem and write the solution here for the benefit of third parties who may run across this thread.

I have a tool called WebDrive that allows me to map network drives as FTP sites.  He had destroyed the normal to a registry value content when you add itself as a provider of network to explore.

The key and the value that Windows Explorer needs to establish network connections are:

    Registry Info

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\HwOrder]

    "ProviderOrder"="RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation, webclient.

In my case the tool WebDrive, rather than add the WDNP32 entry to this list, replace entirely the list.  Restoration of the above re - enabled me to access the data in my virtual machines via the Explorer of files on the host computer.

Now it is fixed in the latest internal version. Since 10.9 comes after tech Fusion preview release, the issue is expected. Please be patient to wait for the next release of Fusion. Thank you.

  • Machine virtual Windows 7 - freezes\reverts of the screen when going from Windowed to full screen and vice versa.

I use a Win7 box with a Machine virtual Win7 on it.  When I started using the VM, it should start and login and work very well.  Shortly after I started having the following problem.  It loads in windowed mode, so I me the welcome greenish\blueish after cutting inside.  If I wait for the Office to load, when I do the full VM screen, it goes full screen then the screen goes to the Welcome screen again, but it's just a static image.  It won't change until I have send a Ctrl-Alt-Del command.  Can I get the normal window with options for logging, start the Task Manager, etc..  If I press ESC or click Cancel, it will show the office and I can work on it without problem.

If I leave full screen mode windowed after that, the same thing happens, except instead of the Welcome screen, I get the screen of Ctl-Alt-Del as a static picture.  Once again, if I send the Ctrl-Alt-Del command, then cancel, I get the office as usual and it will work until I have try to resize the screen again.

Can someone help me understand what is happening?

    Thanks in advance,

  • Update the VMWare tools on all machines virtual Windows

Is it possible to use the PowerCLI update the VMWare tools on all virtual Windows machines to the latest version. I know I can do this individuall but I wanted to see if there a way to use something similar to a for each loop through a virtual machine at a time. I'm new to the power of vmware and the vix api cli and it's the first task I am trying automate (automating installation of all guests including linux would be perfect if I could loop through all clients using the same command). I am a new detailed explanations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Loren

It's pretty simple in his PowerCLI, you combine just 2 cmdlets with a pipeline.

    Get - VM | Update-Tools

You can make the choice of the guests a little more complex.

    For example:

    Get-VM-name Srv * | Update-Tools

will update only the tools on customers whose name starts with SRV.

See the cmdlet Get - VM for more details.

You can also set it update tools should immediately reboot if necessary.

What you can do with the NoReboot parameter on the cmdlet Update-Tools .

    Get-VM-name Srv * | Update-tools - NoReboot

  • Implement the deployment of Machine virtual Windows Server 2012 with a data Bit Locker encryption?

    Hi all

Is it possible to implement the feature data Bit Locker encryption on my Virtual Machine to Windows Server 2012 Std on the Platform VMware ESXi 5.1 vSphere update 1 ?

The hypervisor is currently running on servers HP Blade BL 460 c G8 . Read well the hardware specification: http://h18001.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14208_na/14208_na.pdf I see that he has taken a TPM installed on the blade, but I don't know how to make sure that it is activated or used by the Virtual Machine?

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I had a few goes at it and it's not like you can virtualize a TPM. It would make sense if it was the case - the secure TPM was not designed to manage multiple instances of the OS.

I ended up making USB passthrough on a USB stick and have the Bitlocker key stored on this stick as a demo. Certainly not a transaction supported, but it showed that the storage of key seems to be the only issue.

  • Machine virtual Windows 2000, ftdisk errors and BSOD (twice a month)

    Hello

We have a Windows 2000 SP4 installed to server with all possible updates of Microsoft Windows updates.  It's in our vSphere 4.1 environment which consists of 3 4.1 ESX hosts connected to an EMC SAN with NFS data warehouses.  Every once in a while ago and only this particular virtual machine will go belly up.  Basically, end-users will start to meet execution errors in their application.  Thus, we check the VM and notice a lot of pop-up windows and errors in the system for ftdisk event log (Event ID 50 {Lost Delayed-write-data}).  It gets to a point where you can not do anything in the server, then you will have to hard it turned off.

After reboot, it will display the Windows 2000 splash screen and then a BSOD will appear with INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.  Whatever the choice of Safe mode, safemode w / Networking, last known good, etc...  Also try to attach ISO or a physical CD often freezes the vSphere client so hard to my intel core i7 PC for ever the same displays a CTRLALTDEL Task Manager.

So the solution is to mount a this machine VMDK file to another virtual machine, then run a chkdsk on it, then remove.  To power up the virtual machine Windows 2000, he finally fill the trunk and automatically run a chkdsk on other partitions and difficulty many files, indexes, security descriptors, etc.  The server is online and the hosted application works very well.

Audit in the newspapers, it seems that it has happened with this frequency (looking ftdisk warnings)

    02/11/2010 to 03/11/2010

    05/10/2010 to 06/10/2010

    29/09/2010 to 01/10/2010

    23/09/2010

So it's a little sporadic.  The server gets used exactly the same every week, is not as if he was not less any activity between the 10/6 and 11/2, where it doesn't have the bomb on at all.

Any idea on what is happening here?  If it were a real physical server, it would be all point to a failure of hard drive or scsi controller.  However, it is on an ESX host, as well as many other machines to talk to the same San, and nothing else has a problem.  It comes to our Windows 2000 Server only in our environment, everything else is 2003 or 2008.  The config for this VM problem is:

    1024 MB

    1 PROCESSOR

    4 MB OF VRAM

    VMCI limited

Controller of BusLogic SCSI parallel 0

30 GB thin provisioned SCSI (0:0) hard drive 1

    "Flexible" network adapter

Nothing special or notable outside of a default virtual machine configuration.

Thanks for your comments.  This one is perplexing.  Is not as we can 'swap hard disk.  Were in discussions with the vendor of the application for a migration to Server 2008, but I don't know when that will be possible (if this year or the first quarter of next year).

If you change names like this - ethernet also remove NIC ghost?

It is likely that your changes produces one or more of them - please check.

I cleaned some entries in your existing file and transferred.

  • Satellite Pro C50 - A - BT does not work on a machine virtual Windows XP Home edition

    Hi people,
We bought a C50 - A Pro of the Satellite with windows 7 installed to run a specific industry software that will work on win xp. We are running xp on a virtual machine that is installed.

The problem we have will connect to a specific device by Bluetooth. While we are not very tech savvy, we are able to connect this device to other computers running windows xp, 7 & 8 use Bluetooth Assistant.

The laptop can find the device to set up a connection, but does not connect (we used the same method on other laptops with success).

We have v9.10.11 (t) of installed Toshiba Bluetooth stack. We were in the guide-utility Toshiba Bluetooth and checked for the updated driver but are always blocked.

Can anyone tell if there is something specific to the Toshiba we have not been able to identify? Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards, evil.

    > The laptop can find the device to set up a connection, but does not connect (we used the same method on other laptops with success).

Any news? Have you found a workaround?

I don t use the virtual machine and to be honest I m not very well why you can not connect to the other BT device but in my opinion the question isn't associated with the battery of Toshiba BT from the stack seems to work correctly because the BT device is recognized properly.

  • Questions about the allocation of multiple NETWORK cards in a machine virtual Windows XP Machine HOST/NAT or bridged?

    Hi all

That is the situation. We have a Machine physics WindowsXP with 5 CARDS, all with static IP. Only be connected to the internal network without physical Internet connection is used.

    Map NETWORK 1 has a 10.34.78.241/255.255.255.0 IP Gateway 10.34.78.2

Map NETWORK 2 has an IP 192.168.22.242/255.255.255.0

    Map NETWORK 3 has a 192.168.100.241/255.255.255.0 IP

Map NETWORK 4 has an IP 172.27.254.240/255.255.0.0

5 NIC has an IP 192.168.242.10/255.255.255.252

I used VMWare Converter Standalone to do a P2V PC, which works well with the latest version of VMWare Workstation. All were brought to the course successfully. The virtual machine has 5 Networksas by the XP Machine of origin.

I built a Win7 Machine with 5 physical NETWORK interface cards, I suppose to replicate the Windows original XP Machine, I need configure the static IP address of the new NICs as shown above and configure cards NETWORK the VM 5 HOST mode and use the virtual network Editor

to adapt the VMS NICS? Or is there a better way to do it?

Cheers for any help and advice that can be provided...

If I'm wrong, you should be able to create a Bridged (vmnet) network for each physical card. Make sure that one (which is created by default) is mapped to a physical NIC dedicated rather than automatic.

  • Previews of the Windows Desktop for PDF files icon

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 and use a large number of PDF documents.

My problem is that only some PDF document files that I leave on my desk display the image thumbnails.
Others show just a generic Adobe logo and a red rectangle that says PDF.
It seems random, on 60% images, logos of 40%. I contacted Adobe and sought in several forums, but can't seem to get an answer.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Hey, Wayne Claus.

I found the following on the Forums of Support from Adobe , which implies to me that it is a problem with Adobe and 64-bit operating systems:

Marin85 on forum.thinkpads.com has found a solution to this problem. Seems that the problem occurs on 64 bit systems. Win 7 32 bit version creates the miniature .pdf automatically with Adobe Pro v9. However, this is not the case with Win 7 x 64. Note that on Vista or XP, but it might be the same number of 32-bit/64-bit.

If the thumbnails are not be generated automatically, in order to create a thumbnail preview instead of the regular pdf icon, you just browse to a folder containing PDFs OF IN ACROBAT READER and select the 'Tiles' of the 'Open files' window view Acrobat then creates miniature previews for the PDF files in that particular folder.

I knew that I had seen something on this problem elsewhere and see that it's an Adobe problem needs to be addressed! I found the link when looking for an answer to a different question. See Finally, a fix for the bug to preview PDF in Windows 64-bit by Microsoft MVP & Tech, Ed Bott author.

I restarted services on cells and restarted the cells themselves, which did not solve the problem. I have a service request with vmware, they asked me to restart the management on the host agents. As I can't restart them after opening hours, I hope to find other options until I can restart the service of management on esxi hosts. I am currently on vCloud Director 5.5 and vCenter server 5.1.

After discussing this with vmware technical support, it turns out that screenshots are a part of the upgrade to vSphere. There is a way to filter out, once I have the instructions on how to filter these alerts, I'll post it here.
