management network and vCenter

Hello

Should I put the vCenter on the same network as the hospitality of ESXi management?

Now I have standard vSwitch0 configured with vmkernel port = vMotion vmkernel port = network management... im wondering if I should also create v vmnetwork for example the Mgmt network name as seen in the photo.

netowke.jpg

I've never had problems, but I assume that from a security perspective, there is more to routed traffic otherwise on this subnet.  I have been a long time and never considered that it was essential.  In any way is ok, but I never ran on the management network and personally do not feel the need to put it out there.

What happens if you have several subnets management? IE in my case that we have a different management of networks for some of our groups and therefore VCenter was impossible on both.  I'm surprised they put this in the documentation.

  • Lab Manager dependencies on vCenter and terminology

I just Lab Manager, of course with ESX and vCenter.  I know very little about Virtualization, as this issue will prove.  What are the activities of configuration required on vCenter for Lab Manager able to build models, installation configurations and share library configurations?

Also, I'm trying to get my head around the difference between the data store, data center and media store.  My current knowledge are:

A data store has a one-way relationship to one or more hosts.  If storage is on a specific host (physical hard disk for example) then the data store has a relationship one of exlclusively with a single host.  Any file a host or a virtual machine can read/write can be read/written on this data store.

A data center is a logical collection (non-brique and mortar) hosts, data warehouses and virtual machines.  A data center can aggregate various data stores in a single logical storage available to all virtual machines area?  Or another flavor of physical storage can same issue on a Server Windows 2008 physical logically be conifgured such as NFS, and can share NFS join a data center?

A media store is a special part of a data store managed by the Manager of laboratory exclusively for the storage of files ISO for the construction of models in the laboratory Manager.  Is a media store part of a data store or part of a data center?

Is a model of vCenter the same model Lab Manager?

Any clarification on these questions would be more useful.

    Kind regards

    Rick

Good questions! Welcome to the Forums as well!

Your description data store is pretty right on. With the exception of the now for the storage of the local host, new technologies progressed to virtualize in the shared storage by the use of devices to Vritual Server.  Companies like HP lefthand and Openfiler to name a few.

With regard to the issues of data center

    > A datacenter can aggregate various data warehouses into a single logical storage available to all virtual machines area?

No, he learn better to keep data warehouses between HA/DRS separate clusters.  Now between the host in a cluster you "will share stroage" for the use of the DRS, HA or Storage vMotion.

    > can physical storage on a Server Windows 2008 physical logically be conifgured such as NFS, and can share NFS join a data center?

Yes you can - use Openfiler VSA to connect the two iSCSI LUNS and NFS for ESX. As long as the ESX host can access the virtual machine through the network.

For your other questions have a good read on a couple of things well:

You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Intel wireless card and check.

    a. Click Start and type in Device Manager in the start search and press ENTER.

    b. expand the network adapters in the Device Manager

    c. right-click on the device, and then click Properties

    d. click on the driver tab and click on uninstall the drivers and click OK.

    e. restart the computer and check.

You can also see the Intel Web site and try to download the latest version of the card wifi drivers.

Is it possible to get the converter to push this traffic through the network of production instead?

the system is 3 ESXi hosts grouped in vcenter 5.5.  Is the storage on a San

ESX expose NFC (network file copy) as a service that uses a converter to perform conversions and NFC uses the management network. As far as I know, it cannot be changed.

There is one exception, if--if you do Linux P2V, cloning goes through the network of the virtual machine and you will not have this problem.

I think you may have a more general with this configuration problem, as the NFC is used not only by the converter (for example, SRM, VMotion, etc...). See this: why vMotion uses the management rather than the network vMotion network?-frankdenneman.nl for something completely different, but which may sometimes cause a problem with this Setup.

  • Management of vSphere vCenter crash recovery

hardware server vCenter failed and two vSphere server are always associated with this server.  You want to disassociate the two servers with the old VirtualCenter and establish a new connection with the new vCenter server.

    Environment:

    5.1 ESXi server (production)

    4.1 ESX Server (production)

Server device (not longer exists / dead) vcenter 5.1 running on separate 5.1 ESXi Server

    Scenario:

5.1 vCenter server to manage both production above vSphere servers.  The material which housed the vCenter server has failed and is unrecoverable.  Both servers are accessible through the vSphere client.

The ESX 4.1 Server I get the text next message when you use the vSphere client: "this host is currently managed by the vCenter Server Server with the address IP X.X.X.X. changes to this host this session can now be reflected in sessions clients vSphere watching the vCenter Server.»  The management host, under the summary poster tab: "this host is currently managed by vCenter Server X.X.X.X..

The ESXi server 5.1 has received the same message when you use the vSphere client until I chose an option under host of disassociate or disconnect with the vCenter Server Management (don't remember exactly what was the option).  It succeeded, to some extent.  When you connect to the server ESXi 5.1, it does not present the message indicated with the ESX 4.1 server.

A different vCenter server has been installed in an attempt to restore a centralized without success.  Adding a server as a host to the data center generates the following error message: "failed to contact the specified host (serveur7). "The host may not be available on the network, is maybe a problem of network configuration or management on this host services may not respond.

    Objective:

To dissociate the two servers with the old VirtualCenter and establish a new connection with the new vCenter server.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Can you confirm the new vCenter Server is properly registered in DNS and is able to resolve the names of domain the ESXi host's FULL name, i.e. settings of IP of the server vCenter, including its server DNS entry are correct? Are you able to connect hosts using their IP addresses, just to test if it works.

  • Design of Nexus 1000v - COS and vCenter

Hello everyone. First foray into the 1000V, so hoping someone can give an opinion as to whether my thoughts for the design of high level are on the right track?

    • Host servers have 4 Gb x 10 and 2 x 1 GB ports

    • ESXi 4.1, Enterprise Plus and 1000v a license for every host

    • We will use the devices 1010 need, so no VSM modules

    • 10 GB ports will be allocated to the 1000v vDS

      • Portprofiles created for vMotion and all required VLANS VM

      • No requirement for IP storage

    • The ports of 1 GB on a standard vSwitch for VMkernel Port Management

      • The thinking is that if the vCenter disconnects we can manage the vDS (I suppose that this nature applies to the 1000 v as the VMware vDS?), so it is best to have hosts on a network that we can always access and change if necessary

      • 1010 devices are going to sit on this network (or be routable to/from it)

    • vCenter will be installed on a physical server

      • No Heartbeat vCenter, so only one instance running

      • Because of the dependence vCenter to 1000v port configuration, is probably a good idea to vCenter, such as a computer virtual connected to a port vDS for its virtual machine traffic?

      • The physical vCenter will have connectivity to the management on every host and devices 1010 VMkernel port

      • As an alternative, I guess we could put a VM port on the connections of 1 GB for vCenter, but who was going to start complicating the design and management

What is everything is OK good, or is it too conservative? Should we watch it again add 1 GB ports in links rising 1000v and with the VMkernel management as on a separate port profile and containing a virtualized vCenter (which is what I normally would use for new deployments).

Thanks in advance for any comments,

        Hi Steve,.

Disclaimer clause - I work for Cisco and I consolidated pro network

There was a lot of similar questions already posted on the Cisco 1000v community.   There are a lot of similar questions and suggestions already available: https://www.myciscocommunity.com/community/products/nexus1000v?view=discussions

Here's a recent post similar to yours.

        https://www.myciscocommunity.com/thread/17624?TSTART=0

Regarding some of your design considerations, many of them come down to your level of comfort & expertise.  With vCenter as a physical host allows you to keep out of your virtual environment, but you will lose the advatanges of the best use of the host and VMotion resources that make the host maintenance & limited downtime.  With the vCenter as a virtual machine and running on the DVS, you'd probably the service profile, the VC is assigned to a vlan "system".  This will ensure that your VC network connectivity is ALWAYS transmitted, even if the VSMs are offline and VEM accommodation the VC is reset.  This added protection removes much of the risk of the VC running on the DVS it manages.

Regarding your VSM availability, if the two 1010 are falling, yes you are not able to make changes of configuration on the VSM.  Once active & well configured, there shouldn't be many situations when the two VSMs are offline and you have an urgent need for an immediate configuration change.  VEM guests can survive very well in mode without head (no present VSM) assuming that they are not restart before finding the VSM.   Additional protection for important virtual connections for the management, storage and control IP traffic include the use of "system VLAN" as stated above.

With each adapter used comes additional management and the need for additional upstream switch ports.  With 4 x 10 G of each host cards I would find it difficult to justify also connections of 1 G of utilzing, except if you opt for an "out of band" connections for your management on a vSwitch interfaces.  If you are comfortable with the performance of all your virtual interfaces including management & VMotion on the DVS you can better pool your resources, but using only your adapters 10 G uplinks.  By running all about the 1000v, you can easily apply QoS & limit the use of bandwidth by Port profiles - news just released version 1.4 of 1000v is incredibly easy to set up.  Certainly worth a visit.  See my post here for some of the new features in the 1000v: https://www.myciscocommunity.com/thread/17120?tstart=0

        I hope this helps.

      • restore service dependency for the network and sharing Center

How to restore the dependency service or group who couldn't start for network and sharing Center?

        Hi patto1708,

If it was something that was already previously and failed after certain activities on the computer for which you are not aware of, then the best possible thing to do is run a system restore. This will ensure that your computer is back to operational status.

For more information about the system restore, you can see the link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/System-Restore-frequently-asked-questions

Or you may need to check for the dependency of the network and sharing center services and start them manually when they are stopped manually.

      • How can I connect to the internet? Problems involving the network and sharing Center does not.

        Hello.
I live in a House and bought a range extender so that I can get a connection in my basement as well.  I have installation range Extenders without problem.  When you install the range extender, I changed my name to my network router.  I changed the name of the network by typing 192.168.1.1 in my browser.
The MacBook connects without a problem.  In the basement, the connection of Windows 7 works very well.  I have just connected Vaio Windows 7 my mother to the network, but it prompted that I enter the user credentials.  I read a post above and got that problem solved by opening the network and sharing Center and adding a new connection.  Now that the connection is configured correctly.
The problem is with the laptop HP Windows Vista family basis.  Since I install the range extender, I can't connect to the network.  He had no problems before you connect the router or other networks to visit other places.  The new network name appears, but when I click it, it says I have to enter the user credentials.  I tried to manually, but the name is taken so I can't make a new and invites me to connect to the network that is established or to connect to a different network.
        • I tried to open the network and sharing Center, but it does not open.  When I click it, it opens a screen for a brief second.  The option "Display the status of network and tasks" opens either.
        • I logged as an Administration by entering the command line < net="" user="" administrator="" ctive:yes=""> > and restarted the laptop.  Even logged in as administrator, this folder does not open.
        • I also did a scan < sfc="" cannow=""> >.  The digitized rolled up with an error, but the error has been corrected.
        • I also updated the connection of the range extender.
Why the network and sharing Center will not be open to the top?
How can I configure my router my HP Windows Vista Linksys connection?
Thank you.  Please let me know if you need more information.

        Thanks for your reply.

In a last attempt, my sister has used the ethernet cable to connect directly to our router.  Next time, she turned on her laptop, she managed to connect to our wireless network and she was not invited to enter credentials.
In this case, the manual connection helped solved the problem.
