Map of ESX/ESXi DRS/HA/FT-UCS M71KR - Nexus 1000

Hi all

I have a doubt about the configuration of ESX/ESXi in congiunction with ucs years n1k.

If I use the channel (mac-pinning based due to material ucs) on n1k and I have only two NIC (M71KR) card can I properly configure FT/HA or DRS.

having a port-channel vmware is informed of nic ha? I may have some redundant warning as a note to management interface or stuff like that?

any idea of?

Dan

Dan,

We work with the DRS, FT and HA. You will be able to configure a Port-Channel with MAC-pinning and always use DRS, the FT and HA feature.

To create the channel port, you must add the two network interface cards to the DVS in a perspective of VMware is aware that you have redundancy NIC.

Having a few problems getting Broadcom 57711 NIC working on ESX/ESXi 4.1 with MTU 9000.

ESX/ESXi 4.0 U2 I have no problems to do and work MTU 9000 and I can push our strong enough EQL PS6010 SAN get 550 000 kbit/s with e/s meter runs inside 4 x VM.

I read the documentation and found that an MTU of 1500 is supported only for the NIC in ESX/ESXi 4.1 57711. It has somethig to do with the fact that these cards have hardware iSCSI unloading, there is additional iSCSI adapters that appear under the storage adapters heading 4.1 hosts.

I everything configured properly with 1:1 binding maps iSCSI network to ports VMK iSCSI with an MTU of 1500. When configured, this is the max that I can get out the SAN is 280 000 kbit/s. If I try the same process using the virtual machine a MTU of 9000 / host appears to stop responding.

While I understand that it is a limitation of 1500 when using iSCSI NIC hardware I am unable to get the iSCSI Software to work with a MTU of 9000 on ESX/ESXi 4.1. If I try the software iSCSI using a MTU of 9000 of the VM / host appears to stop responding.

Is also a limitation, or am I missing something.

Is there anyone else out there has the same problems as me?

  • Change the path information for ESX ESXi hosts to access

Hello all! I hope you guys can help me.

I have about 47 hosts that I need to change it Round Robin storage path information. If I make the change in vCenter and restart the host it again changing fixed. So, I thought that I should change it to the level of the host through esxicli.

I have about twice as many LUNS of the Hitachi SAN. I'd like to see if it is possible to make the change in all areas, in some way, or I need to make the change by host? Also, is there anything that I need to change sides San so that it works or not.

I saw this VMware KB: modification of path information for ESX/ESXi hosts to access and assume that it is the best plan? But did not know of all put into custody, if necessary, that everyone ran to when doing this?

You will need to make the change by the host and the KB you'll find is the right method.

  • How many ways to update host ESX/ESXi

To my understanding there are 3 ways of updating ESX/ESXi host.

    • VMware Update Manager
    • VMware host utility update
    • vihostupdate

VUM - update host, vm, vApps and models (this one I'm sure)

VMware host update utility - only update the host?

vihostupdate - can do the same thing as VUM and the only difference is that it is a command line interface?

Is there a VMware document that I can read on this.  I ask this because I am preparing for the VCP 4 exam.  At the place I work, we use vSphere 5 and we don't have never upgrade from 3.x to vSphere 4.

Thanks for the pointers and have a nice day.

    Anthony.

Even if the differences are rated you always want to go with the mist release current which the VCP exam covers - so the 4.1 update guide -.

  • Comments about "VMware KB: verification of the deprivation of resources of the ESX/ESXi Service Console ' (1003496)

    Hi and happy 2012!

Is the title of the article VMware 1003496 KB (Knowledge Base) - http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003496 - "VMware KB: verification of the deprivation of resources of the ESX/ESXi Service Console" (article updated May 16, 2011). A better title might be "VMware KB: searching for deprivation of resources of the Console of the ESX Service / ESXi Tech Support Mode" since ESXi does not have a "Service Console".
Article also mentions in ESXi running the command "top":
" (...) ESX/ESXi includes the top utility to be able to check the use of the resources on the service console. (...)"
" (...)  To check the use of the methods on the service console:
    1. Sign in to your service console of the ESX host as root from a SSH session or directly from the console of the server.  If you connect ESXi Support mode.
    2. Type back to top ."

However, if you enable the Remote Tech Support Mode (SSH) in ESXi (at least in ESXi 4.1 Update 1) - similar to a "Service Console" - the 'top' command seems to not be available:
    ~ # top
    -Ash: top: not found

    ~ # find /-iname high
    ~ #
On the other hand, the article could have mentioned "esxtop" which is available in 'ESXi' (at least in ESXi 4.1 Update 1):
    ~ # find /-iname esxtop
    / sbin/esxtop
I hope this information is useful. I propose that this article (1003496) is updated accordingly.
    Thank you!

Ricardo, we have updated the article to take account of the ESX Classic only.

    Kind regards

  • Question about ESX ESXi (for Cist_o ACS 5.2) vs

    Hello world

Thanks again for your help in advance. I don't know if I can cite another company name in VMWare here so I use "_".

Currently we want to install Cist_o ACS 5.2, who need ESX3.5 or 4.0. I would like to ask... do you think if I use ESXi instead? Or I have to use directly at ESX (not i)?

Also, I try to buy a Del_ server... for this purpose, and I can not want to install several Windows 2003/2008 for the application, the domain controller, print servers. What type of processor and RAM would you recommend (for a performance so so)?

Finally, what is the difference between license and without license for ESX and ESXi respectively?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Takami Chiro

    You can talk about Cisco

You can not just replace with ESX ESXi - they are built on a different Foundation for the service console, which would probably not ACS funciton properly.  Contact cisco for the future on it, as all future versions of ESX (including the v5, the current version) are the 'i' version only.

For the dell, its 100% depedent workload server.  If you have only a few users (less to, say 50), more a base quadcore with ~ 12 GB of RAM should be sufficient.

ESXi is only available with a free license.  Here is the FAQ on the differences:

  • Other system files as VMFS on ESX/ESXi

    Hello

Anyone know if it is possible or not to use a different file system VMFS on ESX/ESXi?

So I was able to mount the file system on a Linux machine. (Either by the presence of a Clusterfilesystem as OCFS, GFS or removing the LUN of the ESX and mount it to a machine DIF).

I also tried a Linux VMFS driver, but it seems that there is only a pilot experimental, read-only, which seems to be not refined.

the local is VMFS but then if it's about connected remotely, it can be NFS

  • Objective 7.1 - guarantee the issue of ESX/ESXi hosts

    Hey all,.

I am currently working on my study guide for the DCA review and have fallen somewhat with the ESX/ESxi Secure objective 7.1 hosts and more specifically the section for "Customize SSH Seetings for increased security. The only documentation I could find about it is in the "ESX Configuration Guide" on page 202 and the VMware KB 1017910. In ESX config guide details how to REDUCE the requirements of security on default (allowing root access, change the version of the SSH protocol, etc.), and the article explains how to set a timeout for the technical support of Mode (both local and remote). I guess these aren't the types of answers they seek, as the section is to increase the level of security.

Any clarification or possilbe advice that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA,

    -Jason

  • What is ESX / ESXi kernel name? (Is-Linux as kernel?)

    Dear all

Many of my clients think use ESX/ESXi Linux kernel (or Linux kernel as, change something)

But I think it's false, I see some information refer to ESX / ESXi using the SimOS.

    My question was below:

SimOS use Linux as kernel?  or SimOS was a new hole kernel developed by VMware?

    All are welcome.

    Thank you.

The nucleus of ESX (i) is referred to as ofter the VMkernel.  It is a closed source application, and it is not based on Linux. ESX (i) includes a Linux driver compatibility mode (pilots must still be compiled specially for ESXi) and a number of apps open source and utilities that run on top of the VMkernel.  ESX features a service console Linux that provides management access to the VMkernel, but which does not exist in ESXi.  ESXi uses Busybox for common commands in console.  BusyBox is compiled in a single file and is used in the VMkernel of ESXi console, but is not equivalent to the ESX service console.

So, no any problema esta totally soportado hat.

2 hay alguna mid-week/requerimiento para o ESX ESXi a cluster mismo dentro solo use?

If the transport are Quebec City el siempre tenga el mismo cluster build in los ESX.

También lo important are todas los ESX vean las premium redes y same data warehouses.

Also important that if tenes a cluster esx mixtos, al menos tengas homogeneas con las vmware tools intaladas in las vms.

    Saludos y buen Año!

  • ESX/ESXi 4.1 support for NFS v4

    Hi team

Just out of curiosity, ESX/ESXi 4.1 already does support NFS v4? Or it only does support NFS v3?
Nevertheless I've invited the VACP rests always on ESX 4.0, but correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thanks in advance.
