Mappings of data store for replication Multi VM in SRM 6.1

In an earlier version of MRS. datastore mapping was necessary if someone wants to replicate several virtual machines of VR. But how to do this in 6.1 SRM?

VR is a replication solution that does not require "datastore mapping" just VM source and target data store.  Just several virtual machines with RV replication requires selecting the same target for all that are selected at the same time data store. This does not change 6.1 RVing and SRM has no impact on this.

  • Second data store for the shared virtual machine

IM thinking about to migrate my existing VMWare Server 2.x to VMWare Workstation 8.

My server is a machine selfbuild W2k8 with Core i7, 24 GB of ram, an SSD for the OS and two 500 GB HDDs. Due to performance issues an VM is placed on a separate HARD disk. I want to keep the configuration like this.

At the time where I'm using a trial version of WS8 and may not know how to set up a second datastore for shared virtual machines on a second hard drive. Is this possible at all? Or y at - it an alternative to solve this problem? Creation of a RAID0, isn't my favorite option.

    Thanks for the reply.

It is not implemented by using a second data store for shared virtual computers.

    Workaround solution:
Suppose you have the original data store C:\vms and a second D:\vms

then create a junction for each directory in D:\vms like that

    C:\vms\VM1 D:\vms\VM1 junction.exe

    C:\vms\VM2 D:\vms\VM2 junction.exe
    ....

then the vmx files from doubleclick in C:\vms\VM1 and configure the virtual machine to share.

On Windows 7, use mklink.exe instead
    On Linux hosts use ln

  • Why is 'Use different data stores for disks of BONE and View Composer persistent' grayed out?

I installed 5 (cluster host 2) vsphere, vcenter 5 discover 5 and openfiler (iSCSI VSA) in vmware workstation 7.

I am trying to simulate a tiered storage configuration and created three warehouses of shared data in order to separate the replica, the linked clones and persistent disk.

However, when I create my bound clone pool I am able to select a specific data store for the replica and bound but clone the persistent disk option is grayed out.  See photos attached to the pool creation, storage, and network configuration.

    Has anyone any suggestions?

    Thank you!

Yes, the use of the disc for operating system profiles require a linked clone pool.     The operating system will be on the clone, persistent disk will be a disc loaded end service that survive refreshes and redials, and then the replica will be reading only one copy of the master image.    The replica in general has in the IO and is almost always placed on the SSD or storage faster than you have and the persistent data disk is usually low IO.

  • List of the files in the data store for the virtual machine

    Hello

How to list the files of data store for the virtual machine? I can't find reference to the command.

    Thank you

If you have installed vCLI and vSphere SDK for Perl, you have extra utilities on top of what is there with the vCLI, take a look at this list: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl40/doc/vsperl_util_index.html

A script that can help with the list of files to store data for a given virtual machine is dsbrowse.pl

  • How can I move virtual machines from a local data store for a new iSCSI SAN?

    Hello guys,.

Now that we have a new iSCSI SAN market how can I tranfer all the virtual machine to a local data store for a new SAN? Can I stop the VM in the host, and then copy the DataStore files with all the info on the new volume?

    Thank you

Alternatively, you can use VMware converter or cold Migration / Storage VMotion if you have the appropriate licenses.

  • How to find clusters of data store for compute cluster?

I used PowerCLI script calls within a rest service.  The rest service is spent a bunch of new applications of construction of virtual machine data.  For the deployment, the only data (relevant to this question), I'm getting is the vcenter server and the name of the compute cluster.  I need to find a way to determine which cluster of data store to deploy virtual computer by using the name of the compute cluster.  If I do a get-cluster $clustername | FL * I see no correlation between the computer cluster and the cluster data store.

If I get info on a VM (get-vmhost $vmhost) host in a cluster, I see the datastoreIDlist as a property of the object VMhost and can see the warehouses of data (not datastoreclusters) facing it.  Which is not ideal, but it might be doable.

I know there is a relationship between compute clusters and storage that is presented in vcenter.  Why can't I find that in powercli?

Try this one, it shows the actual number of "active" paths by the data store.

  • Size of data store for just an OS LUN?

This seems to be a silly question for me, but the alarm is shake me up.

If I want to create a data store that is just a LUN for an OS only, what size does?

For example, in the construction of a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, I created a LUN on the SAN for just the OS and set it to 50GB.  Then, in vCenter, I add the storage to the ESXi hosts as a data store (lets call it OSLUN).  Then I create a virtual computer and use OSLUN as the hard drive, 40 GB provisioning (think that is all I need).  Now, because I chose 8 GB of RAM, the total of the VMDK ends up being 48Go.  vCenter launches an alert to 'Use of data to drive store' saying 49,75 GB it remains only 1.24 GB.

It makes any sense to me, except the alarm that makes me think I'm somehow running out of space to store data... should I just ignore this alarm?  I do not see how I'd go on the space allocated for the LUN of the OS.  :\

Unless you were to store these things on different sets of pins he won't have too much difference. Keep your environment as simple as long as you can. Adding to the complexity when it solves a specific problem not only because you can.

  • Comparing the use of the data store for the use of the disk on the server virtual computer: Match is not

I'm a bit confused and could use clarification of a person.

I'm looking to a virtual machine through the vSphere Client and it has an alert telling me that my free space data store is low. 17.55 free GB of 134,75 GB total capacity. I'm running ESX 4.0 for the host and my VM running Server 2008.

I'm confused because when I connect to the virtual computer and check the use of disk in my computer, it does not reflect what vSphere tells me. This particlular VM is little used and the use of the disk under windows is very very low. About 20 GB.

Can someone tell me why these numbers are not matching? I have other virtual machines that are in the same situation.

    Thank you

    Blake

I think that you may be mixing two things up, the vSphere client will only warn about the data store, the VMFS volume, you have created and presented to ESX. You then create a VMDK file for your Virtual Machine to use. If you assign more than 80% of your data store to a VMDK or several VMDK then the customer will report a warning on its use. WARNING 80% 90% critical even if inside each VMDK file you may be using only a couple of GB.

If you give a little more detail on the virtual machine and the data store, we should be able to get out.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

  • How to specify what data store for use with OVFtool

It drives me crazy! Way that you specify what data store to use when there are several?

I ran exactly the same command on a box that had a data store and it worked fine (as expected). He created the folder of the virtual machine to the root of the SD and then pulled on the virtual machine of the FVO. However, with multiple it just says not: no datstore target specified. I tried 1 million combinations of?-ds = with hooks, without. It is said to be sometimes found in the inventory. I guess that's looking for a folder. But this cannot be so difficult?

C:\Program VMware OVF tool & gt; ovftool P:\Downloads\PanoManagerVM-2.8.0

    -ovf\panomanager.ovf ' vi: / / [email protected].

    Source OVF opening: P:\Downloads\PanoManagerVM-2.8.0-ovf\panomanager.ovf

    ATTENTION: No manifest file

Please enter the login information for the target vi://192.168.1.5/

    User name: root

    Password: *.

Target of opening VI: vi: / / [email protected]/

Error: No data store target specified

    Data warehouses is on target:

    something like

OVFTool - ds = "SAN Storage" source target

    should work

If you write ovftool - help you can see the full syntax.

  • Data store for config files shared with esxi and free license

    Hello

currently I am setting up a test environment with two esxi nodes that share a database on an EMC Clariion. Virtual disks itself will be shared by RDM, there is no problem.

But if I change the configuration of a virtual machine to a physical computer (node A) the other (node B) still use the old configuration, node B does not notice the change applied to node A. What I am doing wrong? Is there a set up where node B will automatically refresh the virtual machine configuration after modification on node A?

If I download the file vmx of navigation on the B node data store, I see the applied changes written to the file. So I guess it isn't a caching issue. The vmx file we re - read when turn on/off the virtual machine? Why isn't she re-read on the opening of the vm configuration dialog box?

What is the recommended set for two guests free esxi who should be able to run virtual machines in the other machine? I don't think that of VMotion or HA! I just want if node A has a power outage on some VMs on the node B.

    Thank you!

    Good bye

    Daniel

You must not register VMs on of two ESXi. Installing vCenter or register VMs on host-host these specific VMs will run on. If you need to move the VM to an another ESXi then delete the inventory on the single host and add to the inventory on the other.

  • How to move a rule definition with the data store for esx alarm without re-creating the rule?

Hi, I would spend my rule of definition of alarm of the data at the level of esx store, without re-creating the rule. Is this possible?

In the Act, I don't want no definition of the alarm at the data store level. So, what is the best practice?

    Best regards

It is currently not possible.  The rules are hierarchical, and there is no way to stop the inheritance, or move messages.  You will have to re-create them at the appropriate level.

  • The amount of data required for replication?

I have a client with a server 2012R2 as a domain controller configuration. It has SQL express for shipping system. There are 3 full-time and part-time users 2.

They had a Server 2003 with Replay. Replication stored up to my office to the problem. Only the internet expanded wireless or Verizon or Hughesnet.

They use the wireless extended for about 5 years. The upload speed has slowed down to about 40 KB/s on May 7, when they did an upgrade. It's part of the problem.

Replication is about 100 hours of delay at this time.

Verizon has a 10 GB per month maximum. HughesNet has 50 GB a month for $129.00

If I'm fiquring right 40 KB/S = 100GB per month so Appassure sent to the amount of data to use HughesNet.

I do snaps at every 30 min. It is an average of 200 MB. I moved the page file to a volume that save. I turned off a bouquet of services.

I think that I could copy the data into my office with far less bandwidth than that.

"The upload speed has slowed down to about 40 KB/s on May 7, when they made an upgrade."

-So, who did an upgrade? Verizon, Hughesnet or Appassure (from 4 to 5?)

-How will you measure this 40 KB, Speedtest.NET, a field in Appassure?

"They are on an average of 200 MB"

-Where are you number of 200 MB of? The number, 200 MB perhaps before any treatment is done. So you might not really need to transfer some 200 MB through

Do you make backups every 30 minutes throughout the day? Does include weekends? If people do not work on weekends, make sure that you don't do backups on the weekend, which falls a little less than 80 GB per month.

Drop your freq from 30 minutes to 1 hour, which reduces your amount to be transferred in the half.

If people work 04:52, don't make backups 8-5, this significantly reduced backups.

If you set backups to run every hour, from Monday to Friday and 8-5 you would subject under 9 GB per week or 36 by number of months vs Antons 271 GB

You have to replicate this customer?

Even if you get this working, the next time that the client makes Inc. vs FULL, you will be FAR behind. And customers seem to like make full backups.

I don't envy you, you have to solve the problems Appassure did and they don't give you any idea what it is. They will not tell you what changes, how long they are taking every step to prepare backups and replication. Why their yield is 40 KB. They will tell you (as above) to use 3rd party tools to try to measure their performance applications and its basically impossible

She's really looks like Appassure may not be a good fit for this site because of the way they perform backups and your needs. If you can't resolve your needs to work with Appassure, I would look at other products that work well for remote sites and a small number of customers. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me
