Mark partition performance.

Hi gurus of the Oracle,.

I had a quick question. I thought that of the 2 techniques will give me better performance.

(1) a table querying and using partition name in the clause as from

Select count (*) in the table table_name partition (nom_partition).

The partition in the business_date for this table.

(2) a table querying partitioned with a where condition clause (here the column in the where condition is partitioned for the date).

"SELECT count (*) from table_name, including table_name.business_date ='1-Dec-2009.

Please let me know if you need any clarification.

Well, theoretically by using the name of the partition will be a few milliseconds faster - second method call mechanism of size of static partition of the optimizer while the first directly say which partition to use.

  • Storage partitioning - query on multiple partitions performance?

    Hello

We use Oracle 11.2.0.3 and have a central fact table large with several alternative identifiers that have the index bitmap on them and fks looking at the dimension tables + several measures

    (PRODUCT_ID,
    CUSTOMER_ID,
    DAY_ID,
    TRANS_TYPE_ID,
    REGION_ID,
    QTY.
    VALUE)

We have 2 separate sets of queries users seek to run for the most part, those accessing transactions products regradless of the time transactions that happened (that is, not financial queries - approximately 70%,)
queries to determine what happened in a particular week - 20% of the queries.

Table will be about 4 billion lines eventually.

Whereas the addition of additional column to that partition the DATE range and this for us to abandon the old partitions each year - but these data would not be joined to any other table.

Whereas then infra partitioning by hash of the product_id that is the key to override to the product dimension.

    Reflections on the performance?

Queries by their nature would have hit several secondary partitions.

Reflections on the performance of the queries of queries that access several sub-sub-sheet music/scores compared to applications running on a single table.

Any other thoughts on partitioning strategy in our situation much apprecaited.

    Thank you

    >
Hash partitioning gives not the size of partition with these predicates to join because they use the equality operator?
    >
Size of the partition occurs at the stage of the analysis. Oracle analyzes the query used and for partitioned tables, trying to determine which partitions are necessary. If filter predicates include information which indicates that one or more specific partitions the Oracle can "prune" other partitions because they are not necessary.

So if 'product_id' is partitioned hash then all rows with the same value will be in the same partition. Then a query like

    SELECT * FROM myTable
    WHERE PRODUCT_ID = 7

Oracle will know when the query is analyzed which sharing one and one only, is necessary because the value 7 always hash to the same partition and Oracle can chop the literal "7" at the time of the analysis to determine which partition is necessary; so cut the other partitions.

If product_id is used in a join predicate to another table but is not limited to specific values like the example above then Oracle cannot determine at the time exactly what partitions might be necessary because it will depend on the discovery at the time of actual data values.

The information needed to trim must be available at the stage of the analysis. In other words, the query and the metadata for the table (DDL, statistics, etc.) will be used to make decisions of pruning - the actual table data are not a factor because the data are not available at the time of the analysis.

  • Storage VMFS Partition Performance

    I am trying to determine if I'll get best performance of 6-300 Gb 15 K FC disks in a table 6 FC - 300 GB 15 K in a table of RAID5 or RAID10?

I don't have much time to really sit and Experiment (would like to but time = $$).

This is the table that will store between 5-9 WIN2k3 VM.

I like the idea of RAID 10, which allows more than 1 drive fail (as long as it isn't the same mirror) and still survive with times of rapid reconstruction.

This question has been turned off before, but not with the amount of readers, I want to say

    Any help is appreciated!

If you have a load of joint task force (most do) then RAID10 will give good performance than RAID5. RAID5 has faster sequential readings as RAID10, but RAID10 is normally the one who gives you the best performance in a VMware environment where multiple virtual machines are access to the same storage.

    Hey Divinemoon,

Try changing the partition Active of C on the second system partition where Windows 7 is installed so that when the computer starts, it loads the appropriate operating system. After you change the active partition, perform the Startup Repair.

    a. Open command prompt in Windows recovery menu.

    a. type diskpart in command prompt.

    b. at the DiskPart prompt, type in disk list. You will see the list of drives currently connected to your computer.

    d. now that correct drive is selected, type in the partition from the list for a list of all partitions on that disk.

    (e) to select the partition that you want to set as active, type select partition n, where n is the partition number.

  • which partition to install windows 7 on new system

I just bought a new laptop without system. I got a copy of windows 7 Home premium 64-bit to put on.

The hard drive is 1000 GB and is divided into 4
Name: Total size: free space: Type
    Disk 0 partition 1 GB 29.3, 29.2 GB system
    Disk 0 partition 2 GB 29.3, 29.2 GB primary
    Disk 0 unallocated space go-go 871.8 871.8
    Partition of drive 0 3: LENOVO_PART 1.1 GB 457.0 MB OEM (reserved)
I know not to touch the OEM, but the marked partition system used allows to install because it is formatted in FaT32 and said it requires NTFS. 2 other partitions are viable, but I don't know which one to use. My instinct would be to go to the primary partition scored because I think that space, it would be OK and keep the operating system from everything that will go on the laptop. But I don't know about you. What do you guys suggest?

The System Partition "Disk 0 partition 1 is where you would put it.

To be honest, I would just remove everything and do a fresh install and create more partitions after.

Are you sure there is no operating system already located on the OEM (reserved) file, you can use to install Windows? Because what is the meaning of keep if you already use a different installation media?

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

  • Disable a partition

I built a new system with a new SATA hard drive. I added the hard drive IDE of my old system of extra storage space and to transfer data to the new system. The old drive has two partitions. It was an add-on to the old system, while he was never the system - only data disk.

Initially, one of the partitions did not show in Windows Explorer I had to add manually. When I looked in the management of the computer, this partition was marked active. I dunno if that could cause problems, but I've read that you should never have an active partition that did not have an operating system. I don't know if it's related, but my computer sometimes reports a non-system drive when it is booting. If I restart it starts normally.

I see an option to Mark Partition as Active, but no option to disable the partition. The option to remove the Volume is grayed out, that for a single partition. There are two folders on the partition, named 4518e8c68d4a5b16ec790d8801df and c8b61e7eff00dcc134, that I can't remove. I suspect that these are the reasons that I can't delete the volume. Searching online, I found that the records are very likely remains of an update to Windows XP.

The computer runs like it is OK. Should I just leave it like that, or is there a way to delete these two folders and disable or remove the partition?

writing in the new message: * e-mail address is removed from the privacy... *

In fact, it is not as simple as I thought. I was just looking at my setup of BIOS and discovered that indeed, he uses the old drive as a system disk. I guess I should have waited until I had Windows 7 installed on the new drive before putting it in the old.

Not exactly the setup I wanted. I really would have preferred to have the operating system installed on the new drive. I thought I took precautions to make this happen. Now what should I do? Is there a simple way to solve this problem, try again?

Not that I know, but someone else may have a solution. Sorry :-(

Hi there.quite new to computing and have a problem with the laptop. When I try to do a restore from the pc using recovery manager I get the message. "there is no recovery on the hard drive partition, I checked and it has a partition named recovery but I can't get access to it. Any help would be appreciated... Thank you

    Hello

As you mention that the Recovery Manager has failed with your original Vista OEM domestic installation it could well be a corruption of the recovery Partition.  If you have created Recovery DVD for the original installation, you could use to reinstall the OS, but I guess that your question that you do not have these.

You can order a set of restore DVD to your PC on the link below (I think that the cost is about $ 27).

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00810334

Here's another process to try.  Make sure that you have a backup of all your files, etc. before trying this.

In the Start Menu, open Control Panel, open administrative tools, open computer management, open storage and open disk management.  Right click on the D: Partition (recovery) and select "Mark Partition as Active".

Restart the PC to see if Recovery Manager starts now.
