Mask in Illustrator

In Photoshop, it's pretty easy:

Schermafbeelding 2014-06-04 om 16.55.39.png

To the bottom layer, I call the left square. On the next layer, I draw the areas covered by the green bits in the central image. This second layer becomes a "layer mask". So, the result is the image on the right are the rectangle is hidden so that the green areas obscure segments of the rectangle.

Now in Illustrator... I can't draw green spaces in a higher layer, choose "traced" next "clipping path". Because it makes the rectangle under the visible green space segments. So the opposite of what I want: make the areas under invisible green forms.

Also, I can't add to the mask.  So, I can not add more green forms to hide the rectangle with. Unlike in Photoshop, where I can use my brush to add to areas in the layer so mask more is being masked.

Is it possible to make possible what I want? Or am I obliged to do exactly the opposite: draw on the areas that I want to have visible and use it as a clipping path so everything under which becomes visible and the rest is "hidden"?

Jiggy,

You have two ways:

(A) "" "" clipping mask "":

(1) create a course covering at least the rounded square.

((2) select the green pieces and the path of the 1st) and object > Compound make the way,.

((3) select 2) and the rounded square and the object > clipping mask > make.

(B) ' ' ' ' opacity mask:»» "»

(1) change the Green Black bits and group them or turn them into a compound path (two works),

((2) 1 select) and the rounded square and in the transparency palette dialog box click the opacity with clip mask and mask Invert unchecked.

  • Scripts do not move the opacity masks

I use the following script to move an item with an opacity mask in illustrator.

    activeDoc var = app.activeDocument;

    selectedItem = activeDoc.selection var [0];

    selectedItem.translate (-10, -10);

The element moves, but the opacity mask stays in the same place. I confirmed that the opacity mask is locked with the element. I also see an element of form in the data browser. The vector object that was used to create the opacity mask is no longer present in the data view. Any ideas?

  • Edit JPEJ images in Illustrator

Jpeg images can be edited in Illustrator? If so, how?

    Hi Wanda,.

Illustrator is not a program like Photoshop for image editing. You may not be able to edit a JPEG file with ease in artificial intelligence, as you can do it in PS. However there is some set of editing, you can do it. Please see the links below for more information:

  • Snap the clipping on the grid mask

Hey Merry Xmax to all the world,

I have a clipping on an image mask so that I can hide a part of the image. Now if I try to break the masked image Illustrator will use the image adjusted limits (i.e. the hidden part of the image) as a reference to align everything. The result is that the image itself always end badly aligned with the grid. In order to solve that I have to manually enter the correct values in the transform Panel, which is a pain. Is this expected behavior? If so, I don't see any point of it. Or maybe I'm missing some preference?

Find attached a screenshot illustrating the problem, note how the hidden part of the image is perfectly aligned with the grid so that the mask (the visible part of the image) is misaligned.

    grid.png

    rsantiago,

What happens if you view > Snap to Grid checked (you can check the object selection by path only in the General preferences) and then with the Selection tool:

    1) click on the clipping mask.

    (2) move the cursor to be close to the desired angle, Point anchor, but just outside the image.

    (3) click to deselect it, and then move the slider (align and follow the side of the image which is indicated by a full rectangle then) snap up the angle which is indicated by a rectangle hollow, then ClickDrag to the desired grid intersection/place?

Should allow you to drag all through the corner of the desired image. You can see when you click to ClickDragging star.

With path only, you can follow the side (vertically or in the past), without it you is perhaps inside the image so that you can go to the outside and to the up/down, to hit the corner.

  • Clipping masks and opacity leaving hairline masks light

I'm running a problem when you use a clipping mask or opacity mask in Illustrator CC 17.1. Either the type of mask leaves a contour slightly around the mask object, creating a noticeable pause in what should be a uniform background. A few details:

I created a ring in 4 quadrants. Each quadrant contains objects/models which must be isolated from the other. Above the work of each quadrant, I stick it in Place a copy of the form of the quadrant including background colors and stroke are both set to none, the value of race field is empty, is not set to 0. Which meet the same color in the adjacent areas of each quadrant there is a slight balding. These are intended to be transparent, and I don't know why this is happening. When viewing as outlines, all vectors are overlap perfectly in my eyes.

    quadrants1.pngquadrants2.png

I tried the same thing with simpler forms, as a test and get the same results. In this example of 3 stacked objects, I built forms using form Builder tool (top), mask clipping (the middle one) and mask opacity (bottom):

    mask-test.png

As you can see, the results are not consistent, but there is certainly some weak lines in each case. The constructor of the form doesn't have a line between black shapes for a reason, but there is a conflict between the colours cyan, where hidden objects stacked meet. At the same time, it is the reverse for the 2 following blocks.

I read the posts in this forum and others on what is a matter of anti-aliasing, it will not be printed with weak contours, but not all applications of this graph will go to print. I exported files, PDF and various other formats EPS files. I have not noticed any loose in a TIFF file but the library files that I provide to my client will consist of the vector and other raster such as png and jpg files that do not show the low contours. When I place a PDF or EPS in Illustrator or InDesign layout, the hairlines are so that documents sent electronically, unprinted, have these visible lines. They remain also when I place an EPS in Photoshop that is unacceptable for the construction of graphics for the web.

Can someone tell me if there is a solution to make transitions smoothly between the objects hidden in Illustrator? Or this just an inherent flaw with Illustrator (or maybe my approach to strengthen these graphics)?

    dugost,

There is nothing wrong in the way you work with masks.

It is disturbing that you can see the hairlines in a PDF file, png, and JPEG.

Just to try something that can be stupid: you work in points/pixels, and are the quadrants in integer values (you can see the W and H values in the Transform palette, with integer values for two opposite corner ticked of reference Points and whole)? If this is not the case, what happens if you change to get that?

  • Morphing one form of mask to another always turns on itself

    Hello

I tried to take two very basic mask paths (8 vectors) and to pass from one to the other. Whenever I do that (any summits I select as first Summit) they always interpolate by flipping around for the second mask, which makes the effect morphing ridiculous of course. It is not just follow the logical steps to simply make an easy transition, but it all goes crazy and makes a loop on itself, if that makes sense. I looked into using the Interpolation of mask option, but that just seems to create several keys of the same wacky morphing images.  Is it possible to 'say' After Effects to follow just the obvious (or vice versa) is the path to one mask to another, or some kind of script or something to tell him what to do?

I have also been copy / paste two different masks in Illustrator that I created. One was a simple rounded rectangle that is larger, the second a simple less wide rectangle with corners rounded. I found that when I manually create traces of mask in After Effects, I don't have a problem with the transition from one to the other, but I'd love to be able to copy paste my mask traces where the final forms of the masks have been properly trained. Any help is appreciated!

There are a couple of things gong here. When you animate a vector path the verticies always travel in a straight line from the first keyframe in the second. The second thing that can happen here, it's that the verticies are numbered starting with the first Summit and the numbering remembers direction in which you went when the path was created.

I think the first path was drawn in illustrator by clicking in the upper-left corner of the rectangle and the second path was created by the first by clicking in the lower right.

  • Is the path of export to illustrator the only way to get a psd w / clipping appears in Illustrator?

I'm wasting time having to put my image in Illustrator, then manually align the clipping path. You used to be able to save a file with a clipping path an EPS in photoshop, select "maintain vector data", place it in illustrator and cmd-press Y to see the clipping path. I need the image and clipping in Illustrator and image path is too complex to create a mask of Illustrator. I tried to save it as an EPS but "retain vector data" is gray.

Save a PSD. If you need access to the path, then incorporate him (the image in Illustrator).

If you just want to use the path for cutting, set it as a clipping path in Photoshop.

  • Cropping vs cutting masks etc.

I am a familiar more graphic designer with photoshop, but I'm starting to me much more with illlustrator familiar lately.  I just have trouble with the correct way to crop things in illustrator using pathfinder or a clipping mask.   I have attached a picture of what I'm trying to do, just tried a bunch of things, but do not get the result I want.  Basically, I want to reframe the paths curved toward the rectangular box below.  Can anyone give me a detailed description of how to go on this subject?  I have not used a mix to create the pattern of line curve, but I have already developed to separate the objects, I can't seem to get the results you want by using the pathfinder palette.  I also have a hard time using clipping mask because illustrator has all it's group of crazy and I always get errors trying to make clipping masks.  Any advice would be much appreciated!

    [IMG] http://img.Photobucket.com/albums/v258/stalsby/packagedesign.jpg [line]

    stalsbee,

You should be able to place the path (closed, partially rectangular) to be the shadow above the curved paths (extended or not), select the entire document and object > clipping mask > make.

It is more difficult to cut paths, because they are open paths.

  • How to round the corners on a .jpg file

    Hello

I'm trying to make icons for .jpg files, so I will try to cut corners.  Taking the advice given elsewhere in this forum, I created a square and its corners rounded, placed on top of the .jpg image and make a clipping mask.  Illustrator goes through the steps of making the mask, but the corners on the .jpg are always square.

What makes it worse, is that something I've tried has worked on one of the icons and not on others and I don't know what.

    Anyone know what is happening?

    Thank you!

you use on your rectangle rounded corners effect before making a clipping mask?

rather than use that, make a rectangle rounded to start with (rounded rectangle tool).

then use it to cut out your image. your shadow effect is not necessary

  • AE6. Is there a way to trace for the release of vector frames? That is to say have a file (and not by hand!)

    Hello.

I need to find 500 + images of lightning, generated with the 'advanced Flash' effect in AE6. I need to have the output vector in the form of a record of centrline. Is it possible to achieve by automation, as I don't have the luxury of time to accomplish this task by hand. Thanks in advance for any advice

    Andy

I THINK - I don't know for sure – you can copy traces of EI mask in Illustrator.  If it is possible, here's what I'd do to remove a part of boredom.

Remove any sort of glow of the lightning.  Do the pure white bolt lightning.  Then use the AE Autotrace.  The resulting layer will be traced to mask for lightning... you could use in Illustrator.

This is not automatic, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

  • How to make an image/object move with edge of the layer effect another?

    Hello

I'm doing a video presentation of Whiteboard.

What I should really do is bind the sequence .png of the arm/hand to the effect of sequential race that I applied to the layer below, as to pretend that the hand movement draws this layer (which is actually a scanned hand drawing) after masks I created with the Auto route tool.

Obviously, I need to find a way to do it to avoid creating keyframes for each unique hand (REALISTIC) movement.

I train after effects CC 12.2. I have a composition of 'HAND' with 7 different .png goes on loop, stop motion such as; a composition where the edge effect is applied to the design and overall composition where I would like to merge the previous two.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

    FP

It may be possible to copy & paste the masks of illustrator and join some of them in a continuous path, however, but otherwise he must get used to the fact that there is no automated for any solution. Some things just need a tedious manual work and it's one of those things...

  • Why my Illustrator file linked with an opacity mask to my Indesign file a washed out appearance?

I have an indesign this work of Illustrator related uses of the file. The illustrator files contain opacity masks, and when I import into my layout indesign they give the bottom of the pages a washed out appearance. I noticed that the page in my project Indesign who doesn't have opacity masks linked seems fine.

So, I know that the opacity mask is performing the indesign document somehow but I don't know how to solve the problem. I tried merging the texture in the opacity mask, flattening of the illustration illustrator, paste the illustrator shape directly on the page, save the work as a PNG; but nothing seems to work.

Here is a picture of the page with the related work.
