MAX hosts per Pool of resources?

Hello

Looking ate Lele Maximums of Configuration doc for vSphere4 Update1, I can't find information like the number MAX of ESXi hosts perresource pool.

Ask because we just added 8 ESXi hosts in the default pool and our broker began broadcasting the following error message:

Event type: WARNING

Event source: VMware View

Event category: VMware View

Event ID: 104

Date: 12/07/2010

Time: 15:10:25

User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Computer: CDEVBROKER01

Description:

Pool cn = 3cf943ec-9879-45dc-92b5-c8fbe919b1c8, OU = virtualcenter, OU = propriΘtΘs, dc = vdi, dc is vmware, dc = int::Unable to create the new VM - VMware.Sim.Fault.TooManyHostsInComputeResourceFault: pool of resources me = resgroup-152, cluster me = field-c7, numHosts = 15, maxHosts = 8

Then within the administration Web page VIEW data warehouses were more visible, non of them!  We then removed the new 8 hosts and now everything is fine. So my question is:

Is this a limitation of resource pool or the host of MAX 8 for the limitation of the view?

The limitation is around composer, and you can have a maximum of 8 hosts per cluster

  • "The memory resources available in the pool of resources of the parent are insufficient for the operations." ... Really?

    Hello

We have three virtual machines on a host computer. They need to be pinned to this host and with reserved memory: 1 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB.

We are talking about 13 GB of RAM on a physical server that has 16 GB of physical RAM.

When I Power On last VM, I get the following error:

"The memory resources available in the pool of resources of the parent are not enough for the operation."

I have a second host with the same size of memory and use reach 14GB of memory.

I know that each virtual machine wants more memory than what we have configured, but I would like to know if it's a "bug" or

something we can fix via vCenter configuration, or we really need more physical memory.

Please find attached the config of memory for the virtual machine and the host State.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Host needs some memory as well for things like vmkernel, drivers and other components and you will not be able to touch this area with reserves of VM. It is not a bug, more like a fuse. You will not be allowed to book all of the physical RAM to VMs and / or resource pools.

In your case, you should either decrease the reserves (why are you booking 100% memory for your virtual machines? What you're trying to achieve with this setting? Is it an obligation of the seller to App?) or increase the amount of physical RAM on the host.

Of course this depends on your specific requirements and management policies of the resources, but in most cases I've seen, reservations are only affected when there is a heavy statement memory and using actions alone is not enough. Even so, reservations are usually configured only for very high priority / criticality VMs and not 100%, but rather a little before "stable / persistent peak memory Active" value. F.x. If a particular virtual machine has more mem use regularly on Wednesday 1-3 PM and memory active value for this period is 3 GB, a reservation is usually set to something like 4GB.

    I hope this helps.

  • New cluster or new pool of resources for tier 1 applications?

    Hello

I have an existing cluster 5 node blade Esxi HP that I put in place for resource pools containing loads of pre-production and production work.  Now, we want to welcome applications from level 1 (Oracle DBs, Weblogic and middleware VMs servers).  Is there a best practice in the establishment of tier 1 workloads?  Should I add additional nodes to the cluster (until 8) and create a separate pool of resources for tier 1 applications, or should I implement a cluster 3 separate node (and generation) devoted entirely to the only level 1 workloads?  What are the advantages/disadvantages of each method?

    Thanks for your comments.

    M

    It depends on.

    (1) that you're going to develop this group even more tomorrow, or after you have added the hosts you have in mind who will be the end of the work?

    (2) how the negative risk is your boss or your client?

    (3) do you run your environment oversubscribed?

    (4) you understand the fundamentals of Resource Pools?

Since I'm pretty risk adverse, I am tempted to create a new cluster with 4 nodes, where each node spans at least 2 or 4 chassis. Resource pools can resolve the problem of conflict of resources, but adds an extra layer of complexity to an environment that is not always welcome, and can make the diagnosis of difficult performance.

    Since you mention that you run ESXi on blades, please see the following article. I found it very informative regarding the problems of redundant N + 1 with blade configurations;

  • Deploy the FVO to a pool of resources

    Hello

Ive read the pdf file and have tried several different ways but he couldn't understand. I was curious if someone could give me a deployment of an ovf example syntax in a pool of resources on the target.

    Thanks for the help.

    Ray

    Hello, naabers-

By the documentation of the OVFTool (at http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/ovf20/ovftool_201_userguide.pdf), it seems that you should be able to deploy an OVF to a resource pool by using something like:

    ovftool.exe -ds myDatastore01 testAppliance.ovf vi://myVCenterServer/TestDatacenter/host/esx-host1.example.com/Resources/SmallResourcePool

You do not use the correct values for the vCenter server, data center name, host name and the name of the resource pool.  The other key words, 'host' and 'Resources' need to stay, because they are static components of the path.  The document addresses the Party on the path to the list of resources on page 19.

And, through my tests, I found that if you deploy all right to a host (vs through vCenter), the syntax would be something like:

    ovftool.exe -ds=myDatastore01 testAppliance.ovf vi://esxiHostName.example.com/myResPool0

which excludes the path to the list of resources and just uses the name of the list of resources, probably due to the different 'context' when it is connected directly to a host.

How to make them for you?

  • I can list pools of resources via a command line tool?

I'm trying to find out if I can understand if a virtual computer is in a resource pool by using a line of remote control. This could be easier than getting a list pools of resources available on a host, or if a virtual machine is a member of a pool of resources. Any ideas anyone?

I tried the tools provided with vmware-viperl (guestinfo.pl and vminfo.pl) and vmware-cmd (as well as other tools that were not even close).

    Thank you.

Take a look at this script that retrieves this information without having to use the unsupported ESXi console: getVMsResourcePools.pl

You will need to install the vSphere SDK for Perl OR use [vMA | http://www.VMware.com/support/Developer/Vima/index.html ]

  • Battle of pool of resources for production

So the company I'm with now uses VMware test and dev for the

last year. They had a small number of machines dedicated to a particular

App on two production areas, but nothing else has mixed with these comments

servers. The company has opted for the purchase of three Dell R900 (proc s fully

populated) and 64 GB of RAM in each. Here are the companies licensed.

Here's my dilemma. My boss has heard of resource pools and has some

know how they work. But he heard other companies completely

sabotage their production environment (no doubt to configure) resource

pools. I worked with ESX for the past three years and my experiences

tells me to start at least with a resource of high, medium and low

pool for our environment. The company plans to put a great mix of

servers in production. Some require a lot of resources and some require

little. Is there a material that I can use ammunition that will eventually

convince my superiors that it's the right thing to do? I'm really a bit

stuck right now with just shot back by saying management emails

that it is a very bad idea to roll out production VMware without resource

    pools.

Here's my dilemma. My boss heard on resource pools, and has some knowledge of their operation. But he heard other companies totally sabotage their production environment (probably to set up) with pools of resources. I have worked with ESX for the past three years and all my experience tells me we must start at least with a pool of high, medium and low resources for our environment.

Opinions are like the feet, there are always 2.  No one will ever agree.  your boss 'heard' but has no experience.  YOU have the experience, then I'd go with this approach.  If he hired I YOU to do the job, then it should allow you to do.  Period.

Resource pools are also an option, but I use them mainly for management (assign permissions at the level of the pool and the Group VM by Department).  We manage the CPU / memory.

They can also get you in trouble if you don't configure them correctly.  I agree, you should not just stick a bunch of VMS there without SOME level of control, rather means high medium or low, it is subjective.  These resources 'shares' only (unless you have reservations) will apply when the ESX host resources are low, then when everything is good, high medium or low, will not a difference.  They will all receive an equal share of the resource.

Your boss must give up being a micro Manager.

  • necessary to enhance Network.http.Max - connections-per-server to javascript

I have an AJAX web application which is very sensitive the number of connections allowed by the browser. Bad things happen when the limit is set at the bottom: frozen screens, the uncommitted transactions, deadlocks, etc..

To avoid this, I need to check the current value of the configuration parameter "Network.http.Max - connections-per-server" program (i.e. javascript code) and to reject a request if the limit is too low with the instructions appropriate for the user.

I guess that's possible because "subject: config" restores all values of settings and even allows for user to change. However, the code-behind for the page is very complicated, so I can not understand how to accomplish my task. All I need is a function or a method returns the current value of a given configuration parameter.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Anatoly

You do not have access to the pref the subject: config page via a Web site.

In theory it is possible, but the user get a pop-up and must confirm each time.

  • CDAQ-9139 StandAlone will not be displayed in the MAX Host computer using Ethernet cable

cDAQ-9139 will not appear in computer Max Host. Portable time controller and host running NOR-DAQmx worm 9.6. Can test both directions and cDAQ-9139 appears in the browser on the host computer which is connected to the cDAQ-9139 via cable directly thru cable OR network Ethernet. Host a no anti-virus and firewall is set to off.

Ah, thank you, sfrosty.  I think I understand your Setup now.  You are running Windows 7 on the computer laptop and WES7 on the cDAQ-9139.

In this case, you must program your application on or deploy an executable compiled directly on the cDAQ-9139.  There is no way to use the laptop to program for and deploy a LabVIEW application to the cDAQ-9139 system.  Instead, you may want to use remote desktop to access the system of cDAQ-9139 directly, or you could fix a computer, keyboard and mouse for the cDAQ-9139 screen and use it as an onboard computer.

  • Creating views portals based on Pools of resources

    Hi all

I'm trying to create portals customized for each of our clients. We have customers grouped into resource pools. What I'm trying to accomplish is to add all the systems within a resource group in the portal display. If I drag on the resource pool, it displays the metric only for the pool of resources in a holistic manner. I want that all the systems within the list of resources to display and show the memory, CPU, and other measures that I specify, individually, without having to add each machine individually. I don't want to have to add each machine individually, because there are hundreds. But in addition to this, I want to be certain that if new guests are added to these resource pools in the future that they are automatically added to the portal for visibility as well.

It seems that I did once already, but I can't understand how I did it. Points of view. data, feature etc. for the portal view are almost overwhelming amount of data that are available to monitor and customize. And it is easy to forget.

    Thank you

    Hello

You can get a view of 'Service' to all your virtual machines by using the Services or Service generator. Create a service, you can add virtual machines to the new service using the rules when you add components.

Is that what you are looking for?

  • Number of hosts per cluster limit VMFS

I can't find a decent answer to this question.  In versions, earlier we are limited to 8 hosts per cluster when using VMFS data with view warehouses.  All this changed with the advent of vSphere 5.5 or 6 view Horizon?  Looking at a bunch of documentation, I see that in vSphere specifications 5.1, it says "32 hosts (VMFS + NFS).  However, in the specifications of vSphere 5.5, he States '32 hosts', with not the Tag-Along "VMFS + NFS".

Someone at - there no hard document about this?

    Thank you!

  • Pools of resources - from scratch

Currently our resource pools are useless, we have 2 in each cluster, but they have been configured with the default settings. I need to come up with a plan to create a cluster and redraw the pools of resources for it. What are the Commons enterprise resource pool configuration best practices? A major component is that we want to be able to guarantee some VM resources that they need, and we must be able to demonstrate that the client so they can be charged appropriately.

Maybe you want to follow the Performance Best Practices for VMware vSphere 5.x your initial configuration, monitor the performance of the environment. Fine tuning in the event of any dispute. vSphere Resource Management is the documentation that explains the impact of each option available to vSphere.

Material resources to specific virtual machines sometimes defeats the purpose of virtualization, but it can be done through features such as booking and affinity and anti-affinite CPU article.

Finally, usage and cost reports is usually done with vCenter Chargeback Manager.

  • Question about the use of sharing with several pools of resources

The design of our environment vSphere has several pools of resources at the root, each series 'Normal' value stocks, and if the resources tab shows that each resource pool '% of the shares' value of 3%.

However, some resource pools have 50 + VM and others have only 1 or 2.

Is someone can confirm that this is wrong and that should have a pool of resources with more than VM have a proportionately higher value of action?  This assumes of course that all the resource pools are of same priority (be they makes me wonder why we use pools of resources at all... but that's another issue)

The reason why I ask is that the 'worst deal allocation' is for memory and CPU is much higher on the pools of resources with multiple virtual machines, so it's obviously something in the algorithm of resource allocation that is aware of the total number of virtual machines in the pools. Resource pools are defined as extensible and I'm assuming that this "worst case allocation" would go down considerably as the cluster approached his ability, but I wanted to check before starting to change things...

Welcome to the Forums - you are right to worry about this situation - check on http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/02/22/the-resource-pool-priority-pie-paradox/ for description - but don't worry Duncan also has a solution - http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/02/24/custom-shares-on-a-resource-pools-scripted/

  • How do we identify a single pool of resources

    Hello world

How do we identify a single pool of resources? There is term called Id of the Pool where he is in the MOB browser.

Could you please help me on this issue

    Thank you

    Tejas

You're looking to identify a pool of resources only in inventory that has the same resource pool names?

A type of managed object is a data structure on the server side. In order to use it on the client-side, a reference is obtained. A particular instance of a managed object of a feature in the server reference, encapsulates the State and methods of this object on the server side. This specific instance has a value called ID managed objects. So, for different managed entities, you can see the id of the virtual machine resource Id, pool, etc.

In the CROWD, when you select a resource pool, the header will display the "Managed Object Type" and "Managed Object ID". This is referred to as the id of the resource pool for an object of the Resource Pool.

  • Number of hosts per LUN

    Hello world

I've never really thought about it until I started going through some of the design books that are out there.

This is all based on what I read in here.

It is recommended to stick to a dozen or so hosts per cluster and you should connect to not more than 8 guests in a single LUN.

If I follow this guideline, which is good practices about which 8 hosts, I decide to connect to a given LUN?

What the DRS/HA in a cluster like this? DRS and HA is smart enough to understand that some a host does not have access to a certain LUN

and choose another host, or would it fail?

    This question has a meaning?

    See you soon

    Hello

The clarion should have no problem, but the MSA2000 may have some. I didn't a lot of research on this subject. The easiest way would be to add hosts to LUN until the SCSI reservation conflicts arise... This will give the upper limit.

  • Use / dedicated resource pool for resources upgrade/calendar

    Hi all
I use the dedicated resource pool (each worker has its own calendar, crafts and scheduled vacation) same calendar is also used by any project I'm doing for the annex. We have 9 hours working day Monday-Thursday while Friday, we work for 8 hours as replacement Friday is turned off (annex 9/80). However, I have the resources allocated to the tasks, but when I check my sheet to use resources that some of my resources are also working on the days that are disabled (for example on Fridays) and also the resources work only 8 hours a day while the calendar is set for 9 a.m. schedule.
I use these schedule and all the parameters of the previous planner that I replace which unfortunately could not transfer the knowledge for a beginner like me. I think I do a good job my employer is concerned that it is not so unhappy, but I know that I have room for improvement.
If I could figure this thing out, I'll have my use of time by the pool of resources that I have and that's what I want to see.
I could use the upgrade provided by the primavera, but it cannot take effect as I want, so fixing the problem that I mentioned above can help me more have leveled and responsible program.
My next step after solving this problem is going to be track cost using primavera (currently we do on spreadsheets).
Looking forward to hear from you all experienced pros.
    Thank you.

Hello. go to the tab of the default for the selected project project detail. set the default calendar for new activities to the desired calendar (for example the global calendar you want as well your activities and resources to use).
You can consider using dependent on resources like the default activity type for new activities (which will plan duration of activity according to the resource calendar (s) when planning)
    hope this helps,
    Tibi
