MD3000i free capacity to add to the disk group

When you add the space not configured to an existing disk group, your existing virtual disks are restriped these batteries again?  Or, if you have an array of RAID 5 10 existing drive and add you 4 additional disks in this disk group, you have in effect a 10 drive RAID 5, and RAID 5, a disc of 4 combined into a logical unit?

    The GI version: 11.2.0.3.0
    Platform: OEL

I have to add 2 TB for the following disk group. Each logic unit number is 100 GB in size.

100 x 20 GB is 2 terabytes. Which means that I have to run 20 orders as below
    SQL> ALTER DISKGROUP DATA_DG1 ADD DISK '/dev/sdc1' rebalance power 4;
Each ALTER DISKGROUP... Rebalancing of the command Add DISK takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Thus, this operation will take 10 hours to complete.
    ie. 20 x 30 = 600 minutes = 10 hours !!!
I have a 3-node RAC. Can I run DISKGROUP ALTER... Orders of DISK to be added in parallel with each node? Will ASM instance allows
several operations of rebalancing in a single disk group?

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmdiskgrps.htm

Oracle ASM can rebalance of Group of disk at once on a given instance. If you launched balances multiple groups of different drives on a single node, Oracle then processes these operations simultaneously on additional nodes if necessary; otherwise, the rebalancing is performed in series on the single node. You can explicitly run balances on groups of different disks on different nodes at the same time.

Why do you need to run 20 of these commands?

You can not only add 20 records at one time:
    ALTER DISKGROUP DATADG ADD DISK
    "diska5/devices / ' NAME disk1.
    "diska6/devices / ' NAME disk2.
    "diska7/devices / ' NAME disk3.
    ...
    .. .etc

You will need to should not manually rebalance as Oracle will automatically do the rebalancing when configuration changes unless you want to use a default value of such power as defined by the ASM_POWER_LIMIT parameter. You can run the command above with an option of rebalancing so if you you need to do.

    Hello

    1. what operating system is installed on the computer?
    2. you have any third-party backup software installed on the computer?

Start the shadow copy volume service and see if the problem persists.
    a: click Start > run
    b
: type Services.msc in the start search box and click on enter.
c: Are now looking for a shadow copy volumeservice, double-click it to open it.
d: make sure that the Service is started and set to Automatic.

Shadow copy is a technology included in Microsoft Windows that allows taking manual or automatic backup copies or snapshots of data, even if it has a lock on a volume that is specific to a precise moment in time on regular intervals.
There should be more space on the backup destination media to take successfully no matter what data should be backed up from the source backup media.

    Hope this information helps.
  • Change the disks used in the disks of OCR/vote DiskGroup

    Hello

    RDBMS...: 11.2.0.4

    ... OS: AIX 7.1

In our environment, we have a diskgroup used to store records OCR and voting. The diskgroup contains 3 discs 15 GB each and is configured with normal redundancy and is called "OCR".

My question is: We must change these 3 discs with 3 new disks to a different memory. I would like to know if it is possible to add these new 3 drives in the diskgroup OCR, wait for rebalancing and after this operation, remove the old records? This approach is viable? Or we need to create a new diskgroup, place the OCR and the discs with right to vote in this new diskgroup and remove the old diskgroup?

    Thanks in advance.

You can add and remove asmdisk by using the procedure in the DSO without problem, make sure just as there are enough failgroup to contain the votedisk.

    OCR and ASMSPFILE connection:

The OCR and the ASMSPFILE are stored similar to how Oracle database files are stored. Scopes are spread across all disks in the diskgroup and redundancy (which is the measurement scale) is based on the redundancy of the disk group. When you add and remove some asmdisk these extensions are moved automatically during the rebalancing process.

No relocation is necessary for OCR to ASM SPFILE.

    VOTEDISK topic:

The VOTEDISK is not stored as OCR, each VOTEDISK (one per ASMDISK) are placed directly on the ASMDISK (near LUN header) then is necessary relocation Votedisk.

Suppose you have 3 asmdisk each own FAILGROUP disc (A, B and C) and you add more ASMDISK 3.

So if you use a normal redundancy, you need to configure at least 3 new failgroup (a failgroup for each new ASMDISK).

When you issue "Alter diskgroup xx drop... drive A, B and C" the clusterware start automatic resettlement treat mobile votedisk to disks on failgroup D, E and F.

You will see the process on the alert_log of ASM and cssd.log.

After finishing process of rebalancing, check if they fall on disk have a status of 'TRAIN' and there is no votedisk thereon ($ crsctl query css votedisk).

  • Disk groups are not visible cluster. vSAN datastore exists. 2 guests (on 8) cluster do not see the vSAN data store. Their storage is not recognized.

Do not know how even tear it down and rebuild it if the disk groups are not visible. The discs are in good health on each host storage adapters.

Currently the latest version of vCenter 5.5. Hosts running 5.5 build 2068190

Just built. Happy to demolish and rebuild. Just do not know why it is not visible on the two hosts and the disk groups are only recognized 3 guests when more are contributing. Also strange that I can't get the disk groups to fill in vCenter. I tried two different browsers (chrome and IE).

    I have now works.

All the identical 5.5 relies on ESXi hosts. All hosts are homogeneous CPU/sum of the prospects for disk controller / installed RAM/storage.

I have work. I had to manually destroy all traces of the vSAN on each single to help host node:

    (1) put the hosts in maintenance mode and remove the cluster. I was unable to disable vSAN in the cluster, I made on each node host (manually via the CLI below) then disconnected web client vCenter and return to finally refresh the ability to disable on the cluster.

esxcli vsan cluster get - to check the status of each host.

esxcli vsan cluster drop - the vSAN cluster host.

storage of vsan esxcli list - view records in the individual host group

esxcli vsan storage remove-d naa.id_of_magnetic_disks_here - to remove each of the disks in the disk group (you can ignore this using the following command to remove the SSD only falling each disc in this host group).

esxcli vsan storage remove s naa.id_of_solid_state_disks_here - this is the SSD and all the magnetic disks in a given disk group.

After that, I was able to manually add hosts to the cluster, leave maintenance mode and configure the disk groups. Aggregated data of the vSAN data store is correct now, and everything is functional.

Another question for those of you who still read... How to configure such as the VM storage strategy that migrates towards (or inspired) the vSAN data store will immediately resume the default storage policy, I built for VSANs?

Thanks for anyone who has followed.

  • Installation of the disk and OCR files voting in ASM

I am preparing to install clusterware GR 11, 2 and ASM on a pSeries IBM AIX 5.3 running node cluster. My question about placing the files OCR and Vote in ASM disk is what disk group ASM is used? Should I put them in the Group of database files, control files, etc.? Or should I place them in the Group of disks for the log files and the recovery area? Or is it not important?

I've referenced the Network Infrastructure Setup Guide, but I'm still confused. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello
Management should use a Diskgroup separated for OCR and Vote. I have the habit of creating a Diskgroup using normal redundancy (3 LUN) to files Clusterware.
Currently starts is used for different purposes (FRA, ACFS, Clusterware files, database files, etc.) is highly recommended to use a diskgroup for each use. It will make a big difference when you do maintenance on start (like add/remove the disks/diskgroup, duplication, etc.)
    Oracle RAC FAQ:
Best practices for ASM must have 2 starts. Best practices for OCR to ASM are to have a copy of the OCR in each diskgroup.

  • Question about the use of size mixed with ASM disk groups

I support a RAC 10 g 10.2.0.3 running and using ASM cluster. We currently have a group of data disks, which is 600 GB in size, consisting of 3 individual raw disk 200 GB devices. The RAC cluster runs on a server pSeries IBM using AIX 5.3

I need to add more space, but the system administrator can give me only 100 GB in the new raw device. What will be the impact, if any, the addition of this feature of smaller crude disk in the same data ASM disk group? I understand that ASM is trying to "balance" the general use of each raw device. ASM still works very well, or will he constantly try to rebalance the disk group because the a raw device is only half of the other three? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It works, I do the same thing in a production database. What happens is, asm will distribute data on the size of the disks. 200 GB drives will get two times more data than the 100 GB drive. The downside is that it will also result in an unequal distribution of the IOPS / s: adults discs will be achieved more often.

  • ASM disk group creation

    Hello

I have a 2-node RAC. I want to add a new diskgroup in ASM.

On the first node, I run the command CREATE DISKGROUP. I have although the disk group paraded with the second node ASM and I could only go up. But on the second node EM, the disk group does not appear in V$ ASM_DISK and ALTER DISKGROUP MOUNT ORA-15063 command returns.

Do I have to create the disk to the second node too?

    Published by: user492400 on March 30, 2010 12:40

How you created disks on the #1 node?
did you use oracleasm createdisk command?

Run sudo /etc/init.d/oracleasm scandisk on the #1 node, then the same command on the node #2
Then run /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks on both nodes and compare the result.

If you see all the drives correctly on both nodes, and then connect to the ASM on the #2 node and run

    ALTER DISKGROUP ALL MOUNT;

    new diskgroup must be mounted.

  • 11 GR 2 Grid Infrastructure install - with normal redundancy ASM disk group requires 3 disks?

    Hello

I want to install 11 GR 2 grid Infrastructure in a new environment in cluster - 2 nodes). I use the 11.2.0.4 GI Installer on Oracle Linux 6.5 x 86-64

However when it is in the installer of GI, it comes to choose the storage Option - I choose ASM disk groups.

Then change the path of discovery to pick up my candidate ASM disks.

I enter the disk group name SIR give Normal redundancy, choose 2 discs of candidate and then press < next > to Setup.

However, I gives me the message

[INS-30510] Insufficient number of ASM disks selected

The number of selected disks was inadequate for the level of redundancy selected

For a disk group with redundancy level "Normal" disks at least "3" are recommended

I always thought that Redunancy Normal required only 2 discs and high redundancy requires 3 disks?

    No idea what is gpoing?

    Thank you

  • Combine the free capacity of different disk group

    Hello

I have Dell PowerVault MD 3000i. I have the free capacity of two different disk groups. Two groups of disks have the same RAID level. Is it possible to combine the free capacity of these two groups?

    Thank you.

No, this isn't an option. Your only choice is to make 2 different virtual disks.

In the operating system, you can be then able to combine them, but this has usually few drawbacks with respect to performance and reliability.

    Hello

    ·         Will there be any changes made before this problem?

Step 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.

If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any drivers\software update for the device.

Step 2: Check the hard disk for errors.

    Follow the steps in http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Note: When you run the disk check, there is a risk of data loss you can take a backup of your files before you run the disk check.

  • Capacity of the disk T3600

We have 2 Dell T3600 we have, but I have a question regarding the capacity of the disk. In my opinion, they don't have 2 slots of discs but the spec to say you can add others.

I'm assuming that they're talking about removing the DVD drive and insert some type of door.

I don't have to watch. I need to insert an SSD in the DVD slot and other passers-by would take a multi-plate 2.

They have a car to put in containing a drive and on the front plate?

  • "Project exceeds the capacity of the disk" when DVD is only 2.5 hours long

This is my first time using again because Toast for some reason, crashed and refused to start again.  I exported the project as an MPEG2-DVD first with Dolby Digital sound.  I loaded the project in Toast, and he told me that about 10% of the disk space was still free.  However, now I have it loaded in again and created a menu it tells me "Project exceeds disk capacity."  What is the problem and how to fix it?  Thank you.

What rate you encode to? I think roughly 3.7 would be OK for a 2.5 hour video.

If you have static menus simple, you should be fine, but if you have animated menus, they will use more space, as would an additional video.

EDIT: When you export via SOUL, you multiplex or use the default value of the export audio video, and separate which is OK for again?
