MDUTIL t

I have OS X 10.8.5 and noted the following message in the console log...

10/02/2016 12:59:47.893 sandboxd [579]: mdworker32 (572) ([572]) deny mach-search com.apple.PowerManagement.control (import fstype:hfs fsflag:480 D 000 flags: 240000005E diag:0 uti:com.microsoft.word.openxml.document plugin: / library/Spotlight/Microsoft Office.mdimporter - find suspect using the file: sudo mdutil t 567061)

Can someone tell me what the mdutil t tells me. When it is run it points to one of my own files, in this case one in the documents directory.

Kind regards

Martin

  • Incorrect storage info - yet I've not solved!

    Hello!

I had this problem for some time.

"In"about this Mac"-" storage "", he says I have 77 free GB to 999 GB. " This is not correct, for if I click on "go" in the top menu of Apple, then "computer", the Macintosh HD said 922GB, but the individual files added without even adding up to 500 GB. This means that the storage news are about 500 GB of evil!

However the Macintosh HD 2 (my drive to another internal), seems to show the correct numbers, but my main drive is waaayy off.

I had this problem a few months back and I want to fix now because my Time Machine backups do not work properly from the computer think there is not enough space to copy on.

    ----------------------------------------------

    What I've tried so far.

I tried to re-indexing of spotlight with various techniques, also in the Spotlight menu in the preferences and the inside of the Terminal (here, I typed "sudo mdutil EI / '), but it doesn't seem to work.

I think there is something wrong with the Time Machine, that perhaps it adds information file upp to the essential motivation or something (idk?).

Can someone help me with this problem please? I would be very grateful!

Because now I can't back up my computer properly and it was a while since I did

BTW, I use OSX El Capitan version 10.11.3, Mac Server minin (end of 2012).

Download and run OmniDiskSweeper as root. You should be able to tell what is take up space.

    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper

  • Inconsistent results Spotlight

I've known inconsistent results of Spotlight with OS X servers for a year or so now. I worked on that with Yosemite and El Capitan.

What is happening is that Spotlight does not see inside some files scattered in various actions. The problem is consistent if the search of a customer attached or on the server itself. It has many, many of these records.

I deleted it. Index files V100-focus on volumes several times with the following process:

    sudo mdutil - a-i off

sudo rm - rfv. Spotlight-V100 (I run on each volume)

    sudo mdutil - a-i on

    sudo mdutil - Ea

However after letting the Spotlight re-indexing it does not fix things.

I think next reset the ACL on the volume where the data is stored. I first want to make sure that what I'm doing, that's enough:

    sudo chmod-r/path/to/volume n

Then set the permissions for the shares as it should.

    Suggestions or comments?

You happen to have the system during a rebuild Spotlight log tail?  If Yes, have you seen errors, files or records which failed to index, or all mdworker default processes?  The system log can provide valuable data as to why Spotlight does not complete.

Then, if you are going to strip the ACL, you will also remove user _spotlight.  This system is essential for the proper functioning of the projector.  Make sure that when you go to spread your new ACLs that account _Spotlight is listed as an ACE inherited.  All files and folders on your part must contain this account from the ACL table service.

And finally, don't forget to watch the POSIX permissions.  If you have restrictive permissions POSIX, you may have implemented a condition in which the mdworker process simply can not cross your data structure.  Search for files located at 700 or files located at 600.  Perhaps considered using the propagation process to restore all the POSIX permissions standard umask.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to fix the search spotlight on El Capitan

Since yesterday, I'm more able to perform a search in the Finder or by mail.

I saw a recommendation for re-indexing, however, when I try to add my drive to the privacy list, I get an error (see below).  Is there a solution?

Thank you for all your comments/recommendations!

You seem to have a problem with the spotlight index.

The method used is one that is usually recommended, but because it gives you an error, you can try to rebuild directly from the Terminal.

Open Terminal (I usually do with, uh, Spotlight... space command, type Ter, enter; if it does not, in the Finder, press command-shift-you open the folder utilities, where the Terminal is located; or use Launchpad)

Copy and paste the following line into the Terminal:

    sudo mdutil EI /.

Enter your password as requested (nothing do not show when you type the password, not even asterisks; this is normal) and press ENTER.

This erases the spotlight index and it will begin re-indexing. Your mac may slow down a little while spotlight is re-indexing of your player.

  • How to keep the /var/db/locate.database locate to removable disk

I just ran sudo /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb with two mounted external drives.  I think that when the command is then executed by the weekly update of system, and readers are not mounted, then the data of these drives will be deleted.  I guess I could copy /var/db/locate.database to a file for backup and then use the-d option to locate to search for a file.  But is there a better way to handle this?

Maybe I should be using mdfind and mdutil to handle this, but I did not understand on external drives for either.

    Thanks for help.

    Boyd

But is there a better way to handle this?

Yes. Use a disk cataloging application. I'm sure you can find several in a web search. I don't have a specific recommendation.

  • Spotlight grasp my hard drive

Spotlight only looks at the internet and does not search my hard drive.

I tried to reindex but that doesn; "t work either

It is a diagnostic procedure. It makes no changes and therefore, by itself, will not solve the problem.

I tested these instructions only with the Safari browser. This is what I suggest you use, even if your favorite browser is something else.

Must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

    Step 1

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

    { mdutil -as 2>&-; echo; mdimport -L 2>&1; echo; syslog -F \$Message -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds -o -k Sender sandboxd -k Message Seq mdutil | tail -100 | sort | uniq | tail -50; } | pbcopy

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting.

The command may take a significant amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) to appear.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produces no output, the Clipboard is empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window does not display the output. Please do not copy from there.

If any personal information appear in the output, anonymize before posting, but do not remove the context.

    Step 2

Launch the Console application in the same way that you launched Terminal. In the Console window, see INFORMATION on the DIAGNOSTIC USE AND on the left for reports of incidents related to a spot. If you do not see this position, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu bar. A crash report Spotlight has a name beginning in "mds," "mdworker", or "mdwrite" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent report, where appropriate, sub-categories of system and user and view all content - the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you change the UUID ' anonymous, ' a long string of letters, numbers and dashes in the header of the report, if it is present (it cannot be). "

Please do not post another type of diagnostic report, such as hang in the newspapers - they are very long and not helpful.

When you post the results, an error message may appear on the web page: "you have included content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the forum software. Thanks for posting the text on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

  • Use the Spotlight UC is out of control without reason

I find more and more Mac running 10.11.4 where Spotlight is just out of control without no reason that I can discern.

If nobody is logged on, Spotlight uses no processor.

As soon as someone connects, Spotlight resumes the process of using CPU number one.  He is currently at 166,4% (of multiple cores).

No matter if I disable mdutil and kill Spotlight... Spotlight returns and eats CPU.

    Reboots don't matter.

10.11.4 reinstall combo did not help.

Clearing the cache didn't help. / System/library and / users.

Create a new user and login, Spotlight jumps to first place.

    Secure startup, Spotlight pops up.

    Network cable, no difference.

First aid was clean when it is started from the recovery Partition.

What the hell is happening here?

    Two things come to mind:

    1) restart mode without failure, then normally again

    (2) force Spotlight to reindex

  • Messages in the console mdworker and lsd

On every few minutes, I get a hundred lines of messages in the console log.

Kernel: Sandbox: mdworker (PID #) deny (1) - reading data from the file with the path to applications.

What causes them and is there anything I can do to fix all these?

I also get a lot of these minutes.

LSD: LaunchServices: could store not lsd-identifier file to /private/var/dv/lsd/com.apple.lsdschemes.plist

Same question, what causes them and can I do to solve this?

Or are these just harmless noise, just a lot of it?

I found mdworker messages are for mds_stores damean for projector which was unaware of the spotlight exclusion list (all HD on Mac) and consumed nearly 600 MB. I found the command, sudo mdutil - a-i off < cr >, enter the admin password, to stop the process, and mds_stores goes back to 175 MB. Apparently, there is a gap between the projector and mds_stores.

  • Spot index is not everything, can not do re - index

I just upgraded to the latest version of point of El Capitan.

It has been a few days now since I've updated so it would have taken much time to Spotlight for re - index but it clearly lacks the elements. For example, if I type in "reminders", the application is not displayed. In the same goes for many other applications that I know exist.

I checked the parameters of confidentiality in the Spotlight system preferences pane and there is nothing in there.

I tried to re - index records with this Apple page: Spotlight: how to re - index folders or volumes - Apple Support

It has not solved the problem.

Don't know what else to try right now.

I solved the problem by running this command in a Terminal: sudo mdutil EI /.

  • Mac not responding, also several applespell process and findnames

    Hello

I have a 27 "iMac mid 2011, El Capitan 10.11.3, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6970 M 2048 MB recently I was make a problem after she came back to have the GPU replaced under the recall program where a program would stop responding. For example, that I would try to go to google & safari wouldn't do anything, when I look at the activity monitor, I see a lot of process called applespell & findnames.

Open programs closing would cause to look at as they closed but landed, there is a black spot below them which, if I click to start the program, him point disappears. Clicking to start the program again would lead to nothing. Safari or another program would not start but a glance in the activity monitor would show that the program is running.

Restart would cause the system to start to stop then is sitting there, I have to force off (switch), then power.

Does anyone know how to track it down & difficulty? Can't find anything on the net.

  • Spotlight from break without deleting the index

Is it possible to pause Spotlight without erasing the existing index? Since the update to EC, I have the problem that a lot of other users is with Spotlight constantly indexing. I still want to be able to use spotlight, but want to be able to pause while I work on large projects.

I tried these commands, but they both remove indexes and then when I turn it back on, indexing must start all over again.

    sudo mdutil - da

    sudo mdutil - a-i on

    sudo launchctl unload w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

    sudo launchctl load-w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

Try to clear, which requires to restart completely. And then, she may stop indexing after about an hour.

    sudo mdutil EI /.

There is no way to pause, immediately or to off.

  • Time capsule and errors to restore backups

I'm trying to restore different backups of 2 macbooks by using the migration wizard and finder, but I do get rather a warning message that the disk image could not be opened because there is no file system mountable or that the operation has been exceeded.

Otherwise, when I try to backup using time machine on the space remaining (1 TB) disk 2 TB of the time capsule, I repeatedly get the message that: "' Time Machine has conducted an audit of the backups on 'Time Capsule'." To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup"' when I click on"start new Backup ".

Any chance to access and retrieve the data stored on this disk?

    Thank you.

Once a backup Time Machine is corrupted, it is extremely difficult to recover. If you click on this message... TM will delete the existing backup and start over.

What model is the TC you use? Is it Gen4 or earlier... That is to say a flat one. If this is the case, you can remove the hard drive and put it in a door - and maybe access backup directly from the computer. If it's a Gen5... tall, then you will a lot more difficult. The hard drive is not easy to get out and it is very easy to damage the cable that connects the drive of TC in the plate.

    See https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule

You can always try to recover from the Finder. How successful will be depends entirely on suite corrupt how backups are.

Someone has worked hard to extract their data and published some useful information that I kept at hand.

Difficulty corrupted backup TM. Re: backup Time Machine stalls after upgrade of El Capitan

    (1) disable Time Machine.

    (2) judgment of all index Spotlight (mdutil d - a).

    (3) destroy all Spotlight indexes (rm - rf /.) Spotlight - V100) manually.

    (4) fix a problem of permission of system files with Spotlight (removed a bunch of files belonged to a non-existent user in a subfolder/private/var/folders Spotlight created). No idea how they got there, but they were there, and newspapers are complaining about them causing a fatal error.

    (5) index Spotlight the reactivation and let them build entirely.

    (6) re - run a backup Time Machine original.

Unfortunately at the time where you get the message about corrupt backups, it is too late...

It will be a bigger and bigger problem... and I'm encouraging people to rely not on TM of the way in which they may have had in the past. I use a secondary backup to TM system... Carbon Copy clone... CCC, which performs a backup much more simple... a direct clone... It is much less likely to be corrupt and can be instantly tested by booting from the clone (using USB) external to it.

  • 10.9.2 upgrade - failure of the "internal error" when you try to start vmware fusion

Everything worked well even after 10.9.2 upgrade and then all of a sudden, I get an internal error and cannot start.

Cause I think that lie in the osx system log: /var/log/system.log

Here are 2 mistakes of the system log which I believe are responsible for this internal error message - I need to know what they mean and how do I workaround:

These errors are generated in the system log when I click Start on the vmware fusion GUI:
