  I think your problem is overheating is causing your laptop turn off. DVD playback generally uses a good amount of CPU, and I suspect that it's causing overheating. A sismilar situation would arise when you try to install from the installation CD. In this case, the laptop uses a lot of CPU/HDD/CD and even once will result in overheating.

  Make sure that the cooling system is free of dust and debris and that there is a sufficient air flow and cooling through the laptop.

  Also, make sure you have power for maximum performance management settings.

I have to put the disc in the disc drive, and then close windows media player, with the disc in the disc drive already, then re-open windows media player. Reopened WMP with the disc in the disc drive, it recognizes the disc in the drive. It then functions well until I need to change the disk at this time I have to start the reboot stop of WMP.   I try and remove Windows Media Player and then reinstall it.
  Uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player:
  Step 1.
  Uninstalling Windows Media Player:
  1. go to start and in the search type "Turn Windows willing or not.
  2. click on "Turn Windows features on or off".
  3. search for multimedia and uncheck the brand in the face of Windows Media Player.
