Memory dimension 2400 divergence of docs and tools online

I want to upgrade the memory in my Dell Dimension 2400. Dell's online tool says that I can put up to 2GB in the machine, but the user's guide says that the max is 1 GB. Can someone tell me who is right?

  • Boot XP SATA dimension 2400?

I searched the forums and found some information, but not enough to be certain. I would replace the drive PATA functioning in our Dimension 2400 with something bigger and faster. The simplest option would be to get a PATA IDE drive, but they are now less attractive in terms of performance and price per gigabyte. So my question is this: I'll be able to start the size of a SATA drive?

I see two possible ways it could work. The first and probably better in terms of performance, would be to get a SATA card for the PCI bus. However, I fear that the BIOS in the Dimension will not be able to boot from the disk in this case. The second would be to use a serial adapter / parallel on the reader and have the size to be treated as a parallel road.

In both cases, I imagine that the operating system can have complications as well. We are short of Win XP SP 3 and I would like to keep it this way.

So, or the other of these approaches would work for one get me a machine that starts XP on the SATA drive? Should what considerations or complications I look for?

    Thank you

  • The upgrade of old Dell Dimension 2400 CPU, GPU, memory, etc...

Mainly interested in CPU upgrade at this time. I have download CPU - Z to determine my profile and I provide this stitched-together set screenshots of this program:

I just put the CPU of my Dimension 5150 friend successfully. I would only reproduce on my 2400 - a much smaller machine. This computer is mainly used for the casual internet browsing, and sometimes I watch a Youtube video. The only programs that really tax the CPU are my disk defragmentation and the program CCleaner. When I have a great session of internet browsing of 100 + tabs, the CPU also emerged at this time here.

I want to the maximum this computer using cheap parts upgrades, that I can buy it on eBay. On my 5150 friend, I bought a processor upgrade for $5 delivered and a thermal paste to ebay for 80 cents. I wouldn't mind buying a cheap video card and processor to upgrade this old workhorse

    sva50233

The Dimension 2400 can use 400 MHz or 533 MHz, Socket 478, P - 4 Northwood or Celeron processor with a 512 k or more small cache.

You cannot use all processors Prescott [1 MB cache].

The maximum support of the processor is P - 4 Northwood, 533 MHz, Socket 478, 3.06 GHz.

Before upgrading the processor, make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS installed.

With regard to the video card, only the PCI cards are supported, no PCI Express card is supported.

The Dimension 2400 supports a maximum of 2 GB (2 x 1 GB Modules) memory DDR.

  • Pls help me to upgrade memory of 512 MB for Dimension 2400

I used the Dell Profiler information and bought a memory card of 1 GB of Dell Online for my Dimension 2400.  Now, I'm ready to install, but the technical specifications. information on the Dimension 2400 implies it will be inconsistent.  Now, I think I should have bought a 512 MB card and installed instead for a total of two cards of RAM 512 each.  Now that I have the 1 GB, could I install and remove the 512 standard which came installed?  Install the 1 GB in addition to the stock 512 MB card?  TY in advance.

  • Memory for the dimension 2400 choice problem

I am looking to order more memory.  A concert stick would be nice.

My problem is the manual system provided with the Dimension 2400 says this:

    DDR SDRAM memory architecture
    Two memory connectors
Capacity of memory 128-,-256, or 512 MB

    Maximum memory 1 GB
Memory type PC2100 (266 MHz) and PC2700 (333 MHz) DDR
    SDRAM (non - ECC)

To purchase memory from Dell Web site says this:

    Memory Dell approved

    Maximum memory: 2048
    Number of slots: 2

    512 MB memory Module for Dell Dimension 2400 / 2400C / 4600 Desktops $ 33,14

    1 GB Memory Module for Dell Dimension 2400 / 2400C / 4600 desktop $ 55,14

If the Dell system manual is not saying 512 k by maximum stick and the Dell store saying 1 GB max stick?

I would like to get a 1 GB stick.  What should I do?

Hmm... I just read on user 1 GB stick magazines that many are running in their Dimension 2400.

  • Dimension 2400 memory upgrade now, I have no monitor?

Hello everyone and thank you for being here to help. My son has a Dimension 2400 w / 34GB of hard disk, which is currently at the maximum. It has 384 MB of RAM. 128 in DIMM1 and DIMM2 in 256. I went to BB today and bought a new stick of 512 MB PNY that I swapped the 128 for. Everything seemed to go well. A few hours later when my son went to use the PC the monitors stand by orange light was on and no picture. The first press there is no answer. A second try the monitor off, when I turned it back on it went green for a moment and then clicked on return to orange, still no picture.

I double checked all the connections and everything seems to be okay. When I removed the cable from the monitor, I heard some no clicks from the monitor, always good, no picture. I turned off the pc and reboot, still nothing. However the pc would not then shut down. I then turned off through the throttle, but when I repowered it, the pc came back. Still could not turn off so I unplugged it for now. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thank you!

  • Dell Dimension 2400 desktop w/XP Home Edition: video card Question

Hello people... last week, I got a desktop pc from a friend who walked away, Dimension 2400 desktop with Windows XP Home Edition. I plan on upgrading it and either sell it or it give. Last night, I ordered a titled graphics card "ATI Radeon 9250 card 256 MB DDR PCI"... which, after purchasing, I discovered via google and other search engines it takes to 220W - 250W power... the power supply installed is 200W... fundamental question is: should I upgrade the PSU? ". Or 200 will do well. Thank you!!!

    Hello

    Welcome to the community

Have you tested the video card? The computer works fine with the new card? In this configuration, I suggest to upgrade the power supply. You can get 250W or higher power. If the computer is on, you can wait for that stop at random. Let me know if you still need assistance.

  • Setting up RAID on pair of internal IDE drives in a Dimension 2400

I will first say that I do not know if this is possible.

I have an old 2400 dimension which came with one hard disk of 40 GB. I want to buy a pair of larger disks to put in it and wonder if it's possible for me to create the pair with RAID-1 mirror, even if it would have the top OS? Ultimately, I want to set up multiple partitions and set it to dual-boot Windows and Linux flavor still to be decided.  I don't know yet what readers are compatible with this machine. I am hunting for the specifications for it. I will need to create a recovery media to preserve the Windows XP operating system, the machine was not provided with media.

Someone on this forum has successfully completed what I'm doing? If you have any suggestions or can tell me all the good links online, it would be more helpful as I am still learning what I need to do to make this happen all. A link to the material sheet Dimension 2400 or compatible drives list would be welcome.

Feel free to me blowing my lack of knowledge on this, but we must start somewhere and ask questions to find out what they don't know.

    Thanks in advance,

The BIOS and the IDE controller integrated into the Dimension 2400 will not support RAID.  However, you can add a RAID PCI controller card that accepts SATA drives.  The SYBA-150R comes to mind for example, but a search of RAID PCI controller will be to others.

The Dimension 2400 is a bit old for this sort of thing, unless you use it as a learning tool.  You might be better off looking for a somewhat newer machine, like a Dimension 9100, already a capable SATA controller for RAID.

The incorporation of other operating systems is not a problem, provided that the selected OS has a compatible with the RAID controller mass storage driver.  When a RAID volume is established, the operating system simply treats it as if it were a single hard drive; individual readers are invisible.

  • For Dimension 2400 RAM upgrade

I have a Dimension 2400, P4 2.8 ghz with 256 MB of RAM that appears on the card 256 MB 333 MHZ DDR MEMORY (1 X 256) NONECC technical, it is not enough, so I plan on getting 2 x 512. I checked with critical and they are listing 2 different types of 512 RAM - 333 mhz (PC2700) and 400 mhz (PC3200). I was wondering if buying 400 mhz RAM would make a difference in performance or if 400 mhz is even compatible?

    Thank you!

  • New HP 2011 x 20 '' LED monitor for old Dell Dimension 2400. necessary graphics card?

My in-laws have an old Dell Dimension 2400 and the monitor exploded. I bought a new HP 2011 x 20 '' LED monitor. My WIRE went to set up, and he tells her that a HMDI graphics card is required.

This is a pretty old computer. I think he might have as... 512 MB of RAM. Is there an inexpensive graphics card that will meet their needs?

And besides, when they buy the graphics card, are there all the cables that they must reach a new monitor to an old computer?

    Thank you very much!

    Nice description of Dell:
Video connector to 15 holes :-)

Seems to be a VGA connector.

From the description of the monitor:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02643130
There is an also vga connector, so you will have no problem to connect the two.

No additional card is necessary, no other cable - just use the old vga cable.

Your only problem might be the resolution:
resolution 1600 x 900 set at the factory for the monitor.

I don't know if you can set the resolution to Dell, you should test.

Otherwise a 4:3 normal/old monitor would be better than this 'big screen' new.

just a thought you have wireless zero config service started/automatic services?

After all your updates should be installed which will disable the autorun, so that when you insert a usb key, nothing will happen until you go to my computer and click on the device to open it, this was done so that you would have a chance to scan a usb usb being one of the fastest ways to spread a virus If she had previously plugged into an infected pc.
