  Try opening the iPhone before connecting to Windows. If the film is not empty, then the device should be listed in Windows Explorer.   Good news is that there is a difficulty.

  I understand that you have changed your operating system to windows 7 from vista, and you are not able to locate the drivers on the HP site.

  The drivers you are looking at are specifically for windows vista not for 7 so these drivers would not work for this laptop.

  One thing you might try download this HP Support Assistant program, and it will try to search for and find drivers and compatible software for your laptop. Click on this link and will need you the HP Support Assistant page.

  I had an A200 equim but it is now broken, I wanted to put my hard drive in an another Toshiba, I tried the A100 as a friend had one, but would not work. I have another friend who has an A300 that I'll try the weekend but don't know if it will work and not more.

  Well that s really strange have you tried another USB cable and different USB ports?

  Maybe on the new laptops the antivirus or firewall blocks access to the external hard drive. Check your security software and to allow external devices.
