memory population rules

Hi team,

I have confusion in the memory population rules in servers dell poweredge for all generation.

Please give me rules and difference between udimm, rdimms, lrdimms.

Kind regards

Charles

Ghadiyadhruvik,

Memory population rules are specific to each model of server, so you would need to be more specific about which server you need to.

Now regarding the differences in the DIMMs.

RDIMMS - RDIMMs add a registry, which implements buffer address signals and the command. The controller memory integrated into the processor sees the registry instead of dealing with the memory chips directly.

UDIMM - the controller memory inside your CPU addresses each stack memory your UDIMM individually and at the same time. However, each memory chip puts a certain amount of capacity on the channel of memory and thus weakens the signals of high frequency through this channel. Thus, the channel may have a limited number of memory chips.

LRDIMMS - load-reduced DIMM replace the registry with an isolation buffer component. IMB implements buffer command, address and data signals.

Let me know which server model you are working with and I can get the specific memory rules of population for you. You can also find the memory rules of population in the manual for that specific system.

  • Configuration of memory PowerEdge T410

    Hi all

Let me start by saying our current configuration of memory (Dell PowerEdge T410):

We have only one processor installed, so we have 4 DIMM for use A1 - A4. Only 3 are currently installed like:

    A3: 4GB 2Rx8 1333

    A2: 4GB 2Rx8 1333

    A1: 4GB 2Rx8 1333

    A4: white

in its current wording, our server (running sbs2011) is extremely slow, and we traced it to the use of the RAM. That being said, I went to the store in line of Dell and bought 2 8 GB 4Rx8 1066 RAM sticks to use on the server. I thought I'd take a module of 4 GB, so I then total 24GB (2 GB + 2 8 GB 4).

Read the manual material, I see that mix 2rx8 and 4rx8 is supported as long as the 4rx8 is in the white slot (first location of the channel). I also see that mixture of capacities of ram is supported as long as each channel has a similar configuration. I assumed that this means that each channel had the same capacity. So I thought 8 GB in every channel:

    A3: 8 GB (channel 2)

    A2: 8 GB (channel 1)

    A1: 4 GB (channel 0)

    A4: 4GB (channel 0)

I placed the DIMMs in this thought of configuration I have all together until I started the server and I get an error of the incompatibility of DIMM and the BIOS indicates memory configuration not supported. However, starting the server in windows and it says 24GO and is normally. What Miss me? Should I be worried? How can I fix?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

    Hello

It is not optimal because you mix DIMMS in a bank. The system supports memory triple channel. It does this by spreading a Bank of memory on 3 channels. Here is how the banks are set up:

    DIMM 0 - 1,2,3
    DIMM 1-4

For an optimal configuration of the DIMMS in slots 1,2,3 must be identical. In older systems that do not support memory flexible configuration the DIMMS in slots 2.3 would be disabled. Since this system supports flexible memory configurations, it will allow the DIMM to stay, but gives no optimal error.

If you mix memory in this system, you can have 1 Unlike DIMM installed for an optimal configuration. The optimal configuration that uses the maximum memory to the DIMM you have available would be:

    8 GB - 1.2
    4 GB - 4

The best non-optimal configuration would be:

    8 GB - 1.2
    4 GB - 3.4

This configuration will always give you errors, but it is better than the current configuration.

    APITech
I also see that mixture of capacities of ram is supported as long as each channel has a similar configuration.

This does not mean that you must have identical DIMM modules in the channels. It means that channels must be filled even. Here is an example:

    DIMM 0 slots 1,2,3 =
    DIMM 1 slots 4,5,6 =

    Chanel, 0 = 1.4
    Channel 1 = 2.5
    Channel 2 = 3.6

You have DIMMs of different rank, speed and capacity mixed through the channels, but you can't have different configurations. For example, in this configuration if you filled DIMM slots 1,2 and then the configuration is valid for DIMM 1 would be filling in only one MEMORY card into the Groove 4 (if the system did not require DIMM be installed in pairs) or 2 DIMMS in slots 4.5. You can't fill a DIMM in the slot 6 since the first slot (3) in the channel (2) is not met.

The population of channel rule means essentially that you can not complete the second slot in a channel if the first place is not filled. In your housing system 1 and 4 are channel 0. All channels have only a single slot assigned to each memory controller. As long as you have one DIMM in slot 1, you can fill the slot 4.

Memory population rules can be very confusing. If you have any other questions let me know.

  • page in page rules in Foglight 5.6.4 and rates

I don't see any information in edocs. These two rules belong to the memory or network?

The mangement of the rule, it shows these expanses of the memory two rules and infrastructure. However, in the description of the alarm, it is said network.

    Can someone explain to me?

I think that you've stumbled on typo here in the cartridge of the IC. Pagination is probably related to memory and you have affirmed the determination of the scope is correct for memory and

"" This rule determines whether the network is a page showing abnormal rates. "" »

I think what they meant to type 'server '.

  • Improvement of memory on R710

    Hello

We have Dell R710 server and 24GO already there. Need to add more than 8 GB. When I check the part number Dell ope managing console I could see this M393B5170EH1-CH9. But the dealer has stock of 9J5WF this RAM part number and he say he will be fit on the server

My question is this part number will be adapted? or I need to buy exactly the part number RAM that I can see in Dell open manage the console?

    Grateful for the help.

    Thank you intabli

    Hi intabli

    Yes, spot on!

According to your current memory population, I think that it is running on the optimizer Mode. Therefore, you should fill in: -.

    A1 B1

    A4 B4

    A2 B2

    A5 B5

You can refer to the user guide R710 on the configuration of the memory on page 132

  • IOM object pre-fill

    Hello.

    I'm pre-populating an object and I have a question

I have a pre-populated rule which takes its information from a Variable 'user definition '.

If I give a resource to another user, the mapping of the "Definition of the user" pre-filled rule corresponds to my information or the user target?

This is because it takes my information and not the information of the target user. Is this expected behavior?
I have installed Bundle Pathc 12.

    Thank you.

The object shapes behave in a different way that forms of process. For a single application, you get a form of single object. However, you get a form of process for each user in the query. Object pre-populates use submitting the application, not the target user because you may have multiple target users.

I would say that if the most is preopulated of the target user, then keep it on the form and not the shape of the object.

  • HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF PC: Population of memory HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF PC

What is the maximum RAM, this model can accept? 16 GB or 32 GB? in the manual it says maximum 16Gb and it says in another manual maximum 32 GB which is correct?

What channel is the channel A and channel is channel B?

In the manual it shows Dimm1 and Dimm2 for B and Dimm3 and Dimm4 channel for channel A, but looking at the BIOS, the details are different it shows XMM1 and XMM2 for channel A and Xmm3 and Xmm4 for Channel B, which is correct?

Any help and the response is very much appreciated.

    You are the very welcome.

That is right.  If 1600 MHz memory running on your PC, it will be fine and just run at 1333 MHz.

If you were to buy an elite 8300 with a 3rd generation of processor core, memory would go to 1600 MHz.

  • Population of memory R710 with SR & DR

    Hello.

I have R710 with two processor E5530 and DIMM slots:

    DR 4x2Gb

    8x2Go SR

    How to complete correctly?

now I have bad config with

    A1 - a2 + b1 - b2 - DR

    A6 - a3 + b3 - b6 - SR

    Thank you very much

    WingDog,

The question that you are running is with memory channel. Although SR & DR mix dimms is supported, you must always match the layout of dimm through the memory channels. As seen below, the channels cover 3 DIMMs per processor groups.

You have only 4 bars of DR DIMM, you wouldn't be able to fill in all three channels by hand. What I suggest is that you place the DIMM DR bars in slots, in that you have, so A1, A2, B1 and B2. With the modules DIMM SR if you place in A4, A5, A7, A8, B4, B5, B7 and B8. That should allow the server to operate correctly.

Let me know how it goes.

  • Memory of UCS permutation

I currently have 2 x blades series B200 M2 with 12 x 4GB 1066 MHz DIMM memory added to it. I just ordered a blade series B230 M2 and more memory for the B200 blades. I ordered memory 16GB sticks for the B200, which will fill the DIMM slots, and some of the 8 GB at 1333 MHz sticks for the 230's. I can add the left over 4 GB 1066 MHz sticks to the B230 without any problem?

I am also aware that adding memory to speed the blade probably would decrease the speed of the 8 GB at 1333 MHz to 1066. But I don't want the size memory.

    Hello

For B230, we must install bars in pairs and they must be the same within a pair. So unless that, if these modules are not classified as a pair, it is not recommended to be installed on B230.

The following documentation provides more detailed information on the guidelines memory of population.

    Memory installation guide

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/unified_computing/UCS/HW/chassis/install/B230.html#wp1003860

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10280/spec_sheet_c17-665957.PDF

If you have already ordered their pair, yes we have memory modules (kit memory of 8 GB / 4 GB) as suggested in the document.

Also if the B230 installed with Intel's EX family processors, they operate only at 1066 MHz, even though the memory module are able to operate at 1333 MHz.

  • PowerEdge T320 compatible memory

    Hello

I had a server T320 with single processor, I has 4 GB of RAM, I want to expand the memory at least 16 GB.

Is there a list of compatible memory modules that can be used

    Here is an example

    HMT31GR7BFR4C-PB Hynix

    Samsung M393B1G70QH0-YK0

    HP 605313-071 Micron

If I can get the memory of 510 Poweredge servers can also allow here.

    Thank you

    BHU

Outside the group that you listed, the only one that looks like it might be compatible would be the Hynix. More glancing DIMMS for the R510, there is a bar shared memory, but it's a 2GB. I don't see any other compatible crossing those listed. Thus, it can be up to error on those you have.

Also you can mix brands of memory, as the population of DIMMs can be different as long as the population for each socket mode and rules.

    • If dimms of different speeds are mixed, all channels across all CPUs operated at the common frequency of the slowest dimm.
    • That a single dimm type is allowed per system: UDIMM or RDIMMS. They cannot be mixed.
    • The first slot dimm in each channel is color-coded with white release tabs to facilitate their identification.
    • Rank savings and mirroring
    • DIMMs must be installed in each channel from the furthest Dimm to CPU. DIMMs must be installed with County rank largest to smallest. For example, if DR is mixed with modules DIMM SR, the DRs should be in the lowest Dimm then SR DIMM slots.

Here are some numbers if necessary part.

    D65JJ - 4 GB 1600 MHz 2RX8

    CPX35 - 8 GB 1600 MHz 2RX4 low voltage

  • HP XW8400: XW 8400 32 GB of memory

    Hello

I am suited to 4 GB long ago, however with Adobe applications (photoshop, a) slowing the loading and so now that I chose increase memory up to 32 GB (DDR2-667, DDR2-533 Fully Buffered).

First in the Cmos - memory has been recognized; then in windows 7 64 bit; the memory has been recognized. And the difference on startup and connection was remarkable - until I started to open the application. For example - all Adobe applications lauch - and then hang - with "not responding". In short, after the upgrade, I am unable to work due to blocking/not responding to conditions.

At work I may have to delete everything except a memory leaving 4 GB. At least I was able to work - in a very slow process - which is better without working with 32 GB.

Is there a fix that will allow the correction so that I can use 32 GB of memory without meeting several conditions not respondents not? Office works very well - very fast!

I would like to know how to repair a harmless memory upgrade - following conditions expected HP upgrade methods.

    Thank you!

    1. install memory by pairs of identical memory modules

    2. do not add not identical memory modules, with which the Office has been delivered. Remove them and set them aside.

    3. install modules of consumer brand that are guaranteed to be compatible with the XW8400 workstation memory

If you follow these basic rules, then you achieve success through the improvement of memory.

    Your workstation has two processors?

Examples of guaranteed compatible are two following sites

  • Laptop HP 17-x025na: my new laptop has memory locations two or one?

    Hello

I recently received my new laptop that comes with a single stick of 8 GB of SK Hynix 2133 MHz memory.

Although I don't have an immediate need, in the past, I always looked to see what an update would cost by downloading and running, say, the Crucial scanner. However, it is not displayed if there is an upgrade. It is not clear if the laptop comes with memory slots two or one.

If someone can advise, it would be great, and if someone has updated to add another 8Gb, it was easy? I want to especially take my new machine apart as much as it seems I have to take several bits for the memory unlike my laptops more alumni who were the subject of a single panel.

    Thank you very much

    You are the very welcome.

Yes, I'm also surprised that the Crucial Scanner does not recount this info.

I compressed upward and set free material utility Info below.

Unzip and run the file and it will let know you all the info on your PC.

On the right side of the main window of the page, there is a section of memory Modules.

Drop down on it and it should show you the slots populated.

Then then closing this window, on the left side of the window, there is a section of memory which should also show the machines and the memory slot.

You should be able to go to the Crucial site and manually find the memory you need by filling out the PC info.

    Thank you.

Yes, this combination will work according to the guide to spare for the S20 material...

When you install memory modules, use the following instructions:

    • Use of 1.8 V, 240-pin DDR3 ECC UDIMM.

    • Use 1 GB, 2 GB or 4 GB memory modules in any combination up to a maximum of 24 GB.

    • First, install the modules of memory in the memory locations of blue color.

as long as you follow these rules, you will be ok.
