Memory PowerEdge R420

Hi all!

I want to increase memory on PowerEdge R420 server, because the OS not used all the processor cores...

Current configuration:

-Two processors: Intel Xeon CPU E5-2407

-Two memory: 2 x 4 GB (location: A1 and B1)

I think to buy two 2 x 4 GB memory and install them to slots: A4 and B4.

But the documentation (Page 46) have the string "NOTE: 16 GB RDIMMS four is not supported. '? What does mean? :

Thank you for all the recommendations!

Amolchanov,

To clarify, the limitation that you noted in your ad (the 16 GB RDIMMS four is not supported.) Isn't what you're trying. You install 4 4 GB DIMMS for a total of 16 GB, you are not 16 GB quad ranked dimms, however. If this limitation does not apply to you.

You should be able to install the DIMMs to 4 GB as you said earlier, without problem.

Let me know how it goes.

  • PowerEdge R420 - Raid internal H310 Perc not finding readers

    Hello

I bought a mini H310 on my poweredge R420, but I am not able to configure the table because there are no physical disk seen by the controller.

There are 4 cabled SATA drives... Doubt is that the H310 will not work with wired readers and perhaps is needed a bottom of basket?

    Thank you for helping

Just gone through what we talked about previously. You said that you had connected him to the SATA port on the motherboard. With the mini, you will need this cable to SAS A near where the mini-map has been connected. You can see SAS A silkscreen next to the port. The cable there and check if the disks are visible.

  • Configuration of memory PowerEdge T410

    Hi all

Let me start by saying our current configuration of memory (Dell PowerEdge T410):

We have only one processor installed, so we have 4 DIMM for use A1 - A4. Only 3 are currently installed like:

    A3: 4GB 2Rx8 1333

    A2: 4GB 2Rx8 1333

    A1: 4GB 2Rx8 1333

    A4: white

in its current wording, our server (running sbs2011) is extremely slow, and we traced it to the use of the RAM. That being said, I went to the store in line of Dell and bought 2 8 GB 4Rx8 1066 RAM sticks to use on the server. I thought I'd take a module of 4 GB, so I then total 24GB (2 GB + 2 8 GB 4).

Read the manual material, I see that mix 2rx8 and 4rx8 is supported as long as the 4rx8 is in the white slot (first location of the channel). I also see that mixture of capacities of ram is supported as long as each channel has a similar configuration. I assumed that this means that each channel had the same capacity. So I thought 8 GB in every channel:

    A3: 8 GB (channel 2)

    A2: 8 GB (channel 1)

    A1: 4 GB (channel 0)

    A4: 4GB (channel 0)

I placed the DIMMs in this thought of configuration I have all together until I started the server and I get an error of the incompatibility of DIMM and the BIOS indicates memory configuration not supported. However, starting the server in windows and it says 24GO and is normally. What Miss me? Should I be worried? How can I fix?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

    Hello

It is not optimal because you mix DIMMS in a bank. The system supports memory triple channel. It does this by spreading a Bank of memory on 3 channels. Here is how the banks are set up:

    DIMM 0 - 1,2,3
    DIMM 1-4

For an optimal configuration of the DIMMS in slots 1,2,3 must be identical. In older systems that do not support memory flexible configuration the DIMMS in slots 2.3 would be disabled. Since this system supports flexible memory configurations, it will allow the DIMM to stay, but gives no optimal error.

If you mix memory in this system, you can have 1 Unlike DIMM installed for an optimal configuration. The optimal configuration that uses the maximum memory to the DIMM you have available would be:

    8 GB - 1.2
    4 GB - 4

The best non-optimal configuration would be:

    8 GB - 1.2
    4 GB - 3.4

This configuration will always give you errors, but it is better than the current configuration.

    APITech
I also see that mixture of capacities of ram is supported as long as each channel has a similar configuration.

This does not mean that you must have identical DIMM modules in the channels. It means that channels must be filled even. Here is an example:

    DIMM 0 slots 1,2,3 =
    DIMM 1 slots 4,5,6 =

    Chanel, 0 = 1.4
    Channel 1 = 2.5
    Channel 2 = 3.6

You have DIMMs of different rank, speed and capacity mixed through the channels, but you can't have different configurations. For example, in this configuration if you filled DIMM slots 1,2 and then the configuration is valid for DIMM 1 would be filling in only one MEMORY card into the Groove 4 (if the system did not require DIMM be installed in pairs) or 2 DIMMS in slots 4.5. You can't fill a DIMM in the slot 6 since the first slot (3) in the channel (2) is not met.

The population of channel rule means essentially that you can not complete the second slot in a channel if the first place is not filled. In your housing system 1 and 4 are channel 0. All channels have only a single slot assigned to each memory controller. As long as you have one DIMM in slot 1, you can fill the slot 4.

Memory population rules can be very confusing. If you have any other questions let me know.

    Thank you

  • Upgrade memory PowerEdge 2900 III

All 3 poweredge 2900 people use the same type of ram? I have a dell poweredge 2900 III and am looking at an upgrade of ram which is listed as compatible with the first generation, the PC2-5300F. I was wondering if this does not work for my 2900 gen 3.

Also, can someone shed some light on what the maximum capacity of RAM for the 2900 III.

    Thank you guys!

    Hello.

The PC2-5300F which is a fully Buffered DIMM is which was delivered with all the 9th Gen Dell servers and should be compatible across all revisions of 2900. What is the size of the memory you are looking for? In my view, that the maximum RAM capacity on the 2900 III server is 48 GB.

I hope this answers you questions.

  • Upgrade memory PowerEdge R610

    Hi all

I have so few R610s I want to upgrade the memory on. I have read the documentation I found to support, but I'm still a little confused. They are all single-processor (the A side) with six 2 GB DIMMS. (12 GB total) I need to upgrade to 20-24GB. If I read things, I can't use the B side, since there is no processor... What would be the best way to do this and there at - it most clear documentation on how memory banks/channels work? I read that this is a difference where you are installing the module DIMM (A1 A2 A3, etc), but I couldn't understand this past. I've also read that if you use all 6 on one side, it decreases the speed of the bus at 800 mhz. Is this correct? I appreciate any help!

    Thank you!

    Hello

With BIOS update 1.1.4 it supports two DIMMs per channel at 1333. Given that the system has only two DIMMs in each channel, it will run at full speed with all slots populated. So to get to the memory quantity you need six 4 GB DIMMS. FTP://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/PowerEdge-r610_Owner%27s%20Manual2_en-us.PDF

  • Question of memory poweredge R910

    Hi Guy,

We want to add more memories of our Power edge 910 (from 2010), but do not know what memory should buy us,

Currently server has 64GB, 16 X 4 GB memory Quad rank (I said Quad becuse the)

said Bill 64 GB memory 16X4Go Quad RDIMMS 2 memory risers)

but on the site of our service number shows this:

    DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4G, 1066, 4RX8X72, H959F, BIC

    and has 2 CPU

    PROCESSOR, E7530, 1.86/5.8, 12M, XMD, D0

We want to add 64 GB memory to this server.

On the site of Dell, we see the only module of 32 GB which is four rows, can buy 2 of these module and add it to the server? or we can not mix the 32 GB Quad with quad 4GB?

"It is recommended that more big DIMMs to be installed everything first, IE on the slots with white sleeves."

This is information demographic General memory. However, we noticed that your 16 GB DIMM using 4GB DRAM, which is not supported by the processor Nehalem E7530 base. When used, the system will not SHOW that you have observed. Therefore, you can't use these new modules of memory of 16 GB at all because the doe processor does not support.

  • Problems upgrade memory PowerEdge T310

    Hello

Today I tried to update the RAM of a T310 (a X 3440 processor) server using memory 4x8Go

The motherboard has 6 pitches in a row. (The 1st and the 4th slot have white clips).

So, I installed 2 DIMM on the 1st and 2nd slot and the other 2 on the slot of 4th and 5th (from top)

When I start the server, the LCD on the front, displays the following message "Temp: unavailable" (I think that there is more on this message but it stucks there), the fan runs on 100% and nothing happens. No screen, no "beeps", no LED on the keyboard or the mouse, nothing.

I have upgraded the BIOS to 1.11.0 but rest the problem stil.

    Can you help me please?

    Thanks in advance

Do you think these bars work? It seems that they are compatible with my server

Yes, that should work. the memory to 32 GB max 4 of them. Even though they are 1066 MHz they will be operating at 800 MHz if you use 4 of them. If you put only 2, then they will be exploited to 1 066 MHz.

    Thank you

  • Upgrade memory PowerEdge T710

    Hi all

I currently have a T710 with 144 GB (8 GB 18 locations).  I would consider up to 192 GB of RAM, the cheapest way possible.

I realize that I can't just drag sticks of 16 GB in there, and that it must be prepared in a certain way (some banks in some processors, etc.).

Can anyone advise me on what I should buy and what configuration I should look?

    Thank you very much

    -Mark

    Brooky99,

With the upgrade up to 192 GB of 144 GB you will need to swap the 8 GB DIMMs in the memory locations with WHITE tabs (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3) with 16 GB DIMMs. Who will ensure that the 3 channels by UC are populated the same. This is a valid configuration.

Let me know how it goes.

  • PowerEdge R420 iDRAC 7 configuration of Email notifications

    Hi all

I tried to configure the e-mail settings in the iDRAC Enterprise 7, but I'm having no luck so far.

I have connected to the web interface and went to the preview-> Server-> alerts.  On the Alerts page, I clicked on the SNMP tab and the settings of e-mail at the top of the page.

Then, I entered the email address, click on the settings apply and tried to send an email, where I got the following error:

I check the mail server logs and it does not all applications of this machine.  I checked the email address I use for SMTP and it is able to send an email on my CentOS with SSMTP machine.

I started just recently set up this machine, and these are all the steps that I've done so far on this server.  Are there others in order to be able to send a test email?

    Hello

Can you check the sub items

1: 'The DRAC DNS name' and 'Static DNS domain name' is configured on iDRAC settings-> network page

2: on server-> alerts-> page alerts, you can check if alerts is in "Active"?

Since the screenshots you provided I also suspect the line of questioning

1: Sub 'E-mail address of Destination', section ' E-Mail Alert 1 "is not in the active state (checkbox is not enabled)"»

2: e-mail authentication is enabled. Do you have E-Mail server is also configured to support of authentication? If not, can you check by disabling the authentication of e-mail

3: you mentioned the domain name COMPLETE for the mail server. You mentioned DNS appropriate under IPv4 or IPv6 (if enabled) on the network page and DNS can resolve "mail.example.com". You can also check this by specifying the IP address here.

    Hello.

Unfortunately, we are not able to open the link you have provided. You can display information about your memory on the web iDRAC under hardware and memory interface. You see the type of error correction (ECC or Non ECC) within the information memory page. You can also view the same information on OpenManage Server Administrator and even make use of the memory part number to find out more information.

  • R420 server port idrac

Hi all, I do not see idrac port located at the rear of the server poweredge R420,. what it means. I see in the basic configuration, if I walked into ST, it is mentioned as idrac 7 express. where he is.

To configure the iDrac that you would need to access the BIOS to iDrac through prompt CTRL-E to start.

You will configure the ip address and everything from there. Then connect via a browser from another system through https://drac ip and then connect to the Web interface.

  • R420 with PERC 710mini Server 2008 R2 assistance

    Hi all

We have a Dell PowerEdge R420 here at work.

There a PERC 710 mini in it. There are currently SAS 3 x 600GB disks in a RAID 5 array.

I am trying to get Windows Server 2008 R2 installed, I have a legitimate drive with Serer 2008 R2 x 64 SP1 included, and of course when I try to install it it asks for drivers.

I downloaded the drivers for the 710 put on a flash drive, Windows considers it and made use of it but the States while no new device could not be found.

I used the service tag to get the drivers for the mini 710, so don't see is not how the pilot might not be correct.

So here I ask assistance. I'm ready to break the table and re-create (give me the steps if you wish, incase I do something wrong).

I will try all this.  The use of live server and works well, there were a few problems and the technician who was on the scene who told me it was the RAID controller. Dell came out and replaced the RAID controller and cable. Then, I took the site and now find myself with that. The data on the disks are not important for any not if he is retired.

Use this link to download the driver, extract it to the USB key: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER00713584M/1/SAS-RAID_Driver_M20VR_WN32_5.2.220.64_A02.EXE

There are 2 pilots, one is for the installation of the inside of Windows, it is used during the installation from a USB key.

    Let me know.

    Kind regards
