Merging databases and memory settings

I have two separate long-term database server (11r2 on RHEL 5). We seek to combine them into a single server in order to reduce the costs and delays of the admin. On both servers, I can run...

select * from v$sga_target_advice order by sga_size;

.. .and get plenty of data on each box. I can check the current sizes for parameters static EAMA does not dynamically as well.

Question: if I'm their fusion, the initial memory parameters (sga_target, etc.) must simply be the sizes from two servers added?

Aka, if SGA_TARGET is 4 GB on db1 and 5 GB on db2, the combined server is 9 GB?

Thank you

You should study hugepages.

Sybrand is correct.  In a dynamic system with many variables, the merger of the two systems is not additive.  You go through an iterative process of adjustment.  Even the advisers are only a starting point, they tend to want to, just to keep memory more.  Find the paper to think clearly on Cary Millsap's performance and consider there are probably things that are fine when separate them, but you cut above the knees when combined.  Unless, of course, the two systems are currently passing too provisioned.

You should be able to anticipate some things by taking the CWA (if authorized, statspack if not) reports to see what is normal.  Keep just a few looks at the pga and sga statistics.  Redo the calibration is probably something that is additive.

  • Change it back Cpu and memory settings back to normal.

    Hi all

    We have an environment vSphere with 50 guests and 800 mV.

    For some reason any environments with limited resources in most of our VMS is strange, for example actions customized for Cpu and Mem are value.

    There are also limits on some virtual machines...

    We do not want its limits and reserves, we do not want custom values.

    We want it to be default, for example 'Normal' without reserves or limits.

    Now we are VMs 'right click' and change the CPU and MEM value to normal, we also check the unlimited area.

    It of a very boring job and takes a lot of time...

    Is this possible to do with PowerCli?

  • Settings of CPU and memory of reserve on the virtual machine running...

    Hello.

    I have two virtual machines in production with CPU and memory settings of reservation applied as shown below. I want to adjust these settings of reservation to "zero" for the CPU and memory on both virtual machines.

    I can make these adjustments while VMS are running, or do I need to power their first?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Proposal of 12 databases and merge Middle-ware.

    Hi all

    I'm not sure that the question here is relevant or not, if not then please accept my sorry for that.

    We will go to 12 c database and merge middle-ware of database 10g.

    our manager asks me to develop a proposal for it, so I request and pass on to management.

    I wonder what should I include in this proposal?

    Thank you

    Looks like you need for more details of what to include in the proposal.

    New features in oracle 12 c?

    New features of grid below 12 c?

    New architecture of the CBD 12 c?

    RMAN enhancements on 12 c?

    The list goes on and. Without knowing what is the first and most important for your business you can just give them the 'New features 12 c' book as a proposal.

    Open your profile folder:

    In the menu bar, click the Help menu and select troubleshooting information. The troubleshooting information tab will open.

    Locate the prefs.js file (and, if applicable, the prefs.js.moztmp file).
    Delete these files and files prefs - n.js where n is a number (e.g. prefs - 2.js).

  • Difference between memory settings

    Hello
    When I checked in my database, I saw these memory settings in my pfile file and I see that duplicate values.
    can you tell me the difference between
    Instance1.__db_cache_size = 939524096
    Instance2.__db_cache_size = 1040187392

    and

    * .db_cache_size = 1342177280

    which is justifiable? and what is the purpose of these two different ones?

    allows a we have 2 node RAC DB

    I want to put a parameter that must have the same value on both cases, lets say, I want to set db_cache_size even in both cases, so I'll use following:

    * .db_cache_size =

    But later I decided I want to increase or decrease the size of the DB_CACHE_SIZE on one of the instnace leaves the floor on the first instnace

    so, I'm going to enter as follows:

    instance_1.db_cache_size =

    So, in pfile, you will see these two values, but the specific parameters of the instance (IE instance_1.db_cache_size) will be a substitute to the
    parameters of the large cluster (*.db_cache_size)

    coming to the second node, we have not specify the input related to it, so size of second instance will be identical to the value of the *.db_cache_size parameter

  • C++ = > LV: array, pointer and memory problem

    Hello

    To research and spent a few days on this...

    I have the following function in C++, which returns a pointer(float *) in an array of float, I need to be dumped in a block of code. I created the DLL and I loaded it in the DLL to LV function (everything is ifne I see and I add the parameters) and accordingly implemented the following example. I then had to find a way to get the pointer to work. All the examples use U32, not a float... There is no float * double or type... back... How is it that is managed?

    So I think I'm sort of on the right track by searching and using the example here:

    http://www.NI.com/example/28672/en/

    I'm sure that isn't true, b/c I simulate the DLL code in MSVS and it works perfectly, but when I have the port, the data are bad... but I get size of 4 floats. ALSO... the memory of DLLS don't reset... so if I run it for the first time, it will calculate the data for n = 0 ==> = 1000 n (see photo), but the next run instead of repeat when I press play, data will begin to n = 1000, ==> n = 2000 all I want to do is pass an array of size 3 type of float data our of my DLL , and in labview... race LV and then stops, the memory will NOT keep its value but reset...

    Here's the function, call others, but you can see:

    char * getYawPitchRoll (float Gx, float Gy, float Gz, float Ax, Ay float, float Az, __int32 msTimeStamp)
    {
    char * YPRptr = YPRDEG; SIZE OF 3 FLOATS DATA TABLE
    getYawPitchRollRad (Gx, Gy, Gz, msTimeStamp, Ax, Ay, Az); written in an array (float) of global variable 'YPRDEG '.
    UpdateYPRDEG();
    Return YPRptr;
    }

    Also attached photo of LV code and library settings *.

    Why is it so ridiculous for LV to manage?

    Please help, I'm out of gas here.

    Thank you

    -Peter

    You must change the table Type, then set the table on pointer data in Table Format. I've never had this problem with variables keeping their previous value and my C is a little rusty, so I'm not sure your problem of Globals. If they are initialized on charge then Taki solution should work, even if repeatedly loading and unloading of the dll should not be necessary. Or maybe you could initialize the when you call your main function? MC

    When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

  • Difference between (minidump) and (memory.dmp)?

    Separated from this thread.

    is there a difference between (minidump) and (memory.dmp) I use windows 10

    The main difference is size. Memory dumps are larger and contain a bit more information.

    In most situations, it is best to configure the computer to produce a dump of memory the kernel in case of system failure. A complete memory dump is a very large file to manage so it is more convenient to work with kernel images of memory when you try to resolve the blue screen errors.

    I suggest that you change your dump file settings to produce an image kernel memory. Select the hotkey Win + X , Control Panel, system, advanced system settings, Advanced tab, and click the button settings to start recovery. Under system failure, select the checkboxes before to write an event to the system log and restart automatically. Change the option Write debugging information by using the scroll to the right for image kernel memory. Click OK , and in the next window, click apply and OK. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

  • How to set the processor affinity and memory.

    We have explicit recommendations of our application provider to set the processor affinity for one of our virtual machines running their product. However, this process is not quite clear to me despite the available docs. We are company ESXi 5.1 more.

    By looking at the tab "resources" for the parameters of the virtual computer you see under CPU:

    Actions (I would do that quite high so that it never goes to confront other good?)

    Booking

    Limit

    The requirement is to set aside x cores for the virtual machine while it is never claim to waiting or resource. They would also potentially implement affinity memory related to the same socket for the effectiveness of the NUMA node.

    We have a host with 2 8-core processors with 256 GB of memory. I'm not worried about the affinity of memory. This should be as simple as the control that the 'reserve any memory comments' correct?

    Is it simpler just set up a pool of resources for cela CPU and memory? The only concern I have is it if the processor uses the same memory channels. We do not want a CPU into a socket using the channel memory of another plug for this virtual machine.

    And it's too late to go back to physics for this system.

    Eeghads! Just FYI, the processor affinity is almost never what a seller really wants, even if they think they do. I can imagine there are valid use cases, but I spoke with several vendors who recommend this, and they were all wrong.

    From what I understand in your summary, the application is sensitive to the latency of the CPU. If the physical compute capacity, actions and reservations will address the latency. Latency is the only reason why they want to set the affinity, or are there others? If there is other, know what they are, because there is a good chance to those who are also invalid reasons. The processor affinity tends to exacerbate the problems you're having with loans time CPU and can often cause latency application MORE CPU than that without it. Yes, you can set up reserves of CPU to address these issues for this particular virtual machine, but you made life more difficult for the CPU scheduler. DRS involved in the loan time CPU, which means she won't necessarily move these other virtual machines on this host, even if they are jointly stop like crazy. While we're on the subject, this virtual machine would need to be excluded from automatic DRS migration, since you cannot vMotion with the processor affinity configured. It also means the virtual machine must be powered whenever his current host goes into maintenance mode.

    In any case, verification 'reserve any memory comments' will not affect memory locality. Will just leave all the pages of virtual memory with physical memory pages (another side effect interesting is that creates the virtual machine is no longer a pagefile on the boot). If you REALLY have to set the affinity to the CPU/memory, memory affinity can be set by changing the settings of the VM, the tab "resources", select Advanced Memory, and you can configure NUMBER here. In addition, if you had already seen it, the processor affinity is configured in the tab "resources", under Advanced CPU.

    I highly recommend you challenge the seller and ask if reservations CPU are sufficient. The planner of UC is already aware NUMA. VCPUs how they ask, anyway? Unless they want to more than 8, it is unlikely to split the virtual machine.

  • Existance co VM / memory settings

    I have a question about coexisting VMs and memory management.  I try VMWare server (2.0.1) on a Windows 2003 host.  I have three virtual computers in place, (A) Suse Linux with Nagios software, (B) Windows 2000 with Windows 2003 (C) and the BTS without anything installed (so far).  The server has 4 GB of memory assigned to the virtual machines A - 1, B - 128 MB, GB, C - 1 GB.  All these virtual machines are idle and only in the test phase.  I got the value C use 3 GB, and 2 GB of memory, but in both cases when VM C starts to work (start, run installations/updates) the host and all virtual machines would be grinds to a State not responding for several minutes.  When this happens, the gel to the top is due to the swap/paging memory.  My question is what should I be looking at and what guidelines should be followed to make the most of the system's memory without causing this problem.  With the current settings of memory, when only turn on/off any machine itself, or when you feed on A and B together no frost until occurs.

    I hope I got the details, feel free to ask for clarification.  Thank you for helping me to start learning of VMWare.

    I start low, in terms of allocation of memory for virtual machines and then increase as needed, i.e. If VMS are weakening memory as they see it from inside the virtual machine itself in the guest OS. There is no hard and fast rule because all the workloads are different. Also use only one procesor VMs unless absolutely necessary. Because you run three different OS, there will be little memory savings between them compared to if you all had the same OS. Note also the setting in the web console as to whether VMs must be performed in memory of the host available - see attached screen shot. If the memory is a bottleneck, try and reduce what you run both host and guests (or add memory). Make sure also that your discs are not the bottleneck, as is often the case on my production servers.
