Message is received, you may be victim of a cloning software

I bought my pc in 2005 and Windows with it.  I got my pc repaired in 2009 and it was Windows XP since without any problem.  Today by turning on my pc I had a message pops up saying "you may be victim of a cloning software.  Why has this happened?  What should I do because can't afford to buy a copy and do not have the details of the person who repaired my pc.  Help!

Jayne

It could be a hoax. Search for malware.

Start the computer in safe mode with network and download and install Malwarebytes (free version for individuals only), updated definitions and run in safe mode. Disable other security software while you do the analyses.

  • You may be victim of software counterfeiting

I bought a Gateway computer brand new, comes with Windows 7 family and Norton Antivirus/Internet BJs Wholesale Club protection. I did the updates of Windows for a month without problem and then received this warning (the title of this thread) and when I followed links to fix, he learned from Windows that my software is not genuine. I signed up to Windows 7 and it's genuinne then!

My research came up with solutions for people who have some bootleg Windows 7 but I guess that Gateway has a legitimate software. When I contacted them, they said I should use the recovery disk and get a new start and blamed the last Windows Update. They advised to not to make the updates which seems ridiculous! I don't want to delete all my data after a month...

NAV has been running constantly and only found cookies trachking.

  • You may be victim of counterfieting with a legitimate copy of Windows 7

I've been running Windows 7 Home premium for probably 5 years. He came from a legitimate upgrade with a valid key disk. I had two times to reinstall because of the hardware failure and she passed activation every time. Two days ago I started to get the message of counterfeit software that doesn't look like something that came from Microsoft. If you click on "click here to solve the problem, it takes you to a page where it asks you to"enter your password". I have no doubt that it is against malware, but neither McAfee nor an anti-malware program I use has picked up anything.

Any suggestions as to get rid of it?

The best approach for a very infected PC is a 'Clean Install' you can never be 100% certain
that every last piece of infections have been removed.

That said, if you have time and want to see how you can go in eliminating the virus.
malware and bots then read on.

Start by downloading the free version of Malwarebytes, it will detect and remove most of the viruses.
    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

    Microsoft safety scanner
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded.
To restart a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions,
Download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

There are also Norton Power Eraser
    http://security.Symantec.com/nbrt/NPE.asp?lcid=1033
Note: Because the Norton Power Eraser uses aggressive methods to detect these threats,
There is a risk that it can select some legitimate programs for removal.
You should use this tool very carefully, and only after you have exhausted other options.

For me on a PC friends who had more than 60 infections and there is no CD of restoration and the key code has been lost, the above "Malware Bytes", "AVG Free" software and Norton Norton Internet security did the trick.

    Norton Security trial software:

  • I got this message on my Telechareger saying that you can be a victim of a cloning software. How what happened.

He told me to buy a genuine Windows license. I don't want to do that. What can I do to remove my computer.

(I'm not in the least surprised!)

Your WIndows key is one that has never generated by MS - it is the result of the KeyGen utility a computer hacker.

Therefore, the current installation of Windows must be described as counterfeit.

There should be a sticker on the box of your machine with your own key Windows on it - it should also tell you for which version and edition of Windows the machine is under license.

It is usually (on a desktop/Tower machine) on the Panel back or on the right panel (but can be anywhere!).

If you find it, what version and edition of Windows is called? (XP Home or Pro?)

IF the cited edition is Pro, then you can use the WIndows product key update tool to change the key for that on the sticker - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/help/genuine/product-key

If the cited edition is home, then you must reinstall Windows from scratch using authentic materials and your key.

  • Windows XP SP3 - Outlook Express receives and sends mail but do not delete received messages. Can you help?

Windows XP SP3 - Outlook Express receives and sends messages, but do not delete received messages.  Can you help?

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

    Hi David,

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?
    2. are you referring to the Windows Live Photo Gallery?

Please follow the methods and mark the question below:

    Method 1:

Fixed problems with Windows Live Photo Gallery that does not:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_photo_and_slideshow_diag/

    Method 2:

You need perform a clean boot to prevent any third party conflicting application from interfering with your computer.

To put the computer in a clean boot State, you must follow the steps in the article mentioned below and check with the question.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    Suggestions?

    Hello

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    2. which antivirus app do you use?

I suggest you try these methods and check.

    Method 1:

Anti-virus software may conflict with Windows Update. You can temporary disable them and check the issue.

    Disable the antivirus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2:
How to reset the Windows Update components?
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-the-registry

Method 3: If the methods above do not help, I suggest you delete the edb.log file and check if that helps.

    Follow these steps:

    a. click the Start button, click computer.

    b. now, go to this site: C:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore\logs\edb.log
Where 'C' is the drive of operating system
    c. delete the log file, and then restart the computer and check the issue.
