Message to activate Windows Defender
Original title: windows Defender
I just had windows 8 and each time I try to run windows defender and I just got a message saying defender of widows is not enabled. It is said to go to the response center and check the status of an other anti spywere program. I got a free month trial to mcafee, but which is now out of print. Why windows defender used light up?
I think I uninstalled mcafee, but where to find the removal tool on their website?
Use the following link to download the removal tool.
McAfee removal tool:
http://download.McAfee.com/Products/Licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
Download the file to your desktop. Right-click on the removal tool and select the run as Administrator option.
Once the removal is complete, press Windows key + Q to display the Search screen.
Type of Defender in the Search box and click the Search icon.
In the results, right-click the Defender tile and click on the axis of the taskbar option on the toolbar at the bottom.
Go to the desktop and select the Defender icon on the taskbar to open.
Click the Settings tab.
Select the real-time Protection item and place a tick in the box.
Click on save changes.

I installed Microsoft Security Essentials today and I'm trying to edit startup programs. Whenever I try to change the settings for startup from the Control Panel, a pop up tells me that I need to activate Windows Defender and open. However, most of the security will not allow Windows Defender be turned on and I want to change the startup parameters. How can I accomplish this?
Hello
If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.
There is nothing to worry.
Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
If you want to have additional protection against malware using the version FREE of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

And now edit startup in Vista without using Defender programs, use one of the following methods:

Or the program Autoruns for FREE:

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security

Hello OnePennyShort,
Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.
I recommend that you look at the solutions of the following missions:
http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistaapps/thread/f5536f2d-ACEB-41A5-beb6-92e5d3b2f73fIf this does not help then try the following suggestion:
Right click on command prompt and run as administrator. Type the following command:
WinMgmt /verifyrepository
If the system returns "referential WMI is not consistent", run this command:
WinMgmt /salvagerepository
The first time you run this operation fails. (It will assign orders to stop services leading to failure. "This may take a few minutes for the services to stop). Run the command again. You may in fact need to run 3 times before finally runs and ends on its own.
Reboot your system. If please reply back and let us know if it helped to solve your problem or if you still need help.
Sincerely,
Marilyn

Need help activate Windows Defender
I was recently scammed for my contact information of credit card of people claiming to be the call from Microsoft, they had remote access to my computer, I now find to be very slow and the homepage has changed color and I now have more icons on the screen. I tried to access Defender but it seems Defender is stopped, I tried to turn it back on, but keep, get a message saying "Windows Defender encountered an 0x80004003.invalid pointer error" can anyone help.
Hello
Read this, all that you should do when you give remote access to fraudsters.
Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.
We have all the errors and warnings in our Event Viewer
If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, explain, and change passwords.
If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.
And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

On the problems of Defender.
If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):
"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.
Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.
Once modified, click apply and OK.
Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"

When I click on windows defender in control panel it States it is turned off and when I Flash similar to turn on windows Defender, the following error message: Windows defender encounters the following error: 0x800106ba. Please help me in this regard.
First of all, what AV program do you use? Several intentionally disable Defender during installation to prevent conflicts - what could be normal and not a problem.
If this isn't the case, then check the following thread where at least 3 different solutions are available for exactly the same error message with the Defender:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaapps/thread/f5536f2d-aceb-41a5-beb6-92e5d3b2f73f. I hope this helps. If this isn't the case, post back with the results of what you have tried and your current AV program and we'll see what we can try.
