Microsoft initiated phone calls for this correction?

REC received a call from someone who said they were from Microsoft today, indicating that the security update did not work on my computer and want to take control online to fix. Is - is this legitimate?

No. (see this article - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/securitytipstalk/archive/2010/03/09/don-t-fall-for-phony-phone-tech-support.aspx)

Microsoft does not contact you personally, they don't send attachments, etc.

You were right to be wary.

I use my iPhone 6 very often to my office for phone calls.  This is my work phone.

This will help life battery together if I keep the phone plugged in my phone calls?

    Thank you

SUSE, you can use it while connected and in this way when you unplug to get somewhere, you know you will have a fully updated beautiful upgraded battery.

Just don't leave it plugged constantly all the time — weeks or months.  A battery lithium needs periodically some running through it.  But certainly leave it plugged during the day of the company while using it, or even just for long calls will do no harm.

Battery life is determined by the cycles, so if this reduces the rate of your phone through equivalent full charge and discharge cycles it can not hurt self-help (depending on how you use it, it cannot help battery life much either, but it probably won't hurt it).

It's a scam.  Never provide any access to your PC to someone who calls you with some story about virus infections (etc.) is detected on your PC.  MS would never do that (plenty of examples in the MSE forum if you care to look).

More tips - social engineering is a term for the bad guys who try to convince you to do something that would allow them to infect your computer or gather confidential information (Bank online identifiers for example...)
You (and everyone!) need to be careful to not be fooled (and some of these guys are VERY GOOD at deceiving people.

    It's a scam.

This is the notice given to any person who has phone calls like this on Malware, license expiration, etc..

We have all the errors and warnings in our Event Viewer, which is another ploy they use to scare you

Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

You are the only person who knows if you gave them remote access.

If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, to explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

  • I've just been pretty stupid to fall for this scam that I can do to cancel it

Yesterday I got a call, the Indian person on the line, told me it was a visit of courtesy from microsoft and was offered for free, I asked again if this was the case and he assured me it is, he says, his name was Daniel.

I am in my seventies and that I recently had problems with my P.C.I fell for his line, I have pretty basic computer knowledge.
He showed me on my computer that I got a lot of mail something or other which in turn could contain viruses, I said that I do not understand that, as I had Macafee protection and previously Norton he told me that two of them were incompatible with my p C is windows 7

At the end of the long conversation, he said he could offer me 2 years of technical protection at a price of £139,98
V.A.T. a total of £158,96 and like the more fool I feel now that I paid with my master card.

He said someone would ring me back today and he did, he just asked me if my computer was working ok promised to send another mail electronic, but that never happened so far.
I was already starting to be pretty worried I could have fallen for a clever scam, yesterday they sent me a confirmation of billing,
He said that all the phone calls for technical support were free on 0844 2720796 of course that I printed of this

Gave me this web site address www.onlinetechmate.com.  I just looked on the website and the comments at the end of the wiser and more knowledgeable people on P.Cs how they were taken about this type of scam

Please can you help me maybe, I now feel physically ill, I do all my banking online and transfers and often buy online they claim to be trained Microsoft technicians - what can I do to stop payment or anything at all I can do to get me out of trouble, I think I have left me to please advise me and help me if you can thanks

You should call your credit card company and let them know about this fraud.  They can cancel the charge for you.  Also, you need to assign you a new number of credit card and cancel the old.

If this individual "Daniel" has been authorized to have access online to your computer, you have no way of knowing what information he may have gotten, and what are the settings he could change.  You should contact any financial institution you deal with and let them know that your account has been compromised.

You must change your passwords online for the financial institutions, or companies where you do shopping online, using a known clean computer.  Do not access these accounts of the infected computer until it has been restructured and the operating system reinstalled.

  • Apple Watch is no longer display of contact names - only the phone numbers on the texts and phone calls

PROBLEM: When I receive an SMS or a phone call on my IWatch, it now shows only the phone number or e-mail address of the sender, rather than their names.  At the same time my IPhone matched 5 c displays the names of my contacts perfectly list view text message or phone call.  This problem just started occurring in the past week.

CAUSES: unknown - it worked one day and the next day it didn't.  I don't remember edit particular parameter associated with it. Although my circle of friends on the IPhone appears differently now, too, without the my change.

TROUBLESHOOTING: I turned off my Iphone, tried resetting, powering my iwatch and checked the settings for the IWatch on my Iphone and my Iphone settings.

PRODUCTS: My software on my Iwatch says it's updated: OS 2.2.1.

My Iphone's software is also updated: IOS 9.3.2

My sister is also having the same problem with his Iwatch paired with a phone SE 5.

I wonder if this is a recent development and how to fix it.

    Hello

It can help restore your sync data:

    • On your iPhone, in the application of the watch, go: Watch My (tab) > general > reset > tap reset sync data.
      • Nothing seems to happen when you tap it, but the process will be executed in the background, invisible to you, so allow a few moments it ends.

If you have not already done so, you can also activate iCloud Contacts:

    • On your iPhone, go to: settings > iCloud - turn on the Contacts.
  • Cannot make or receive phone calls after the upgrade to iOS 9.2

Last night, I could make and receive phone calls. This morning I upgraded to iOS 9.1 to 9.2, and now I can't make or receive calls.

Any call I make - other iPhones, to landlines, whether on my list of Favorites or not - says 'call X... '. "(where X is the name of the contact - X is omitted if I don't dial a contact). After a few seconds, the phone says "Call ended." and I get three quick tones.

When they call me, it goes to voicemail once they hear 1 or 2 rings. I don't hear anything. The call does not appear in the 'recent' folder, but I received a voice message.

I don't have to "do not disturb" lit.

My iPhone is a 4 s, which can be a key because my wife has a 5. She has just upgraded and has no problem with calls. We are both on the Sprint network, using 'Ting' which is a dealer - so our actual provider's Ting. My phone says "Version 9.2 (13 c 75)", carrier "Sprint 23.0" and model MD377LL/A."

I turned the phone on and off several times, and also to do a reset (now hold both power and home until the apple logo appears). neither helped. I double-clicked the original key and removed the phone application and all other applications, then restarted the phone application, which also helped.

    WiFi works.

A related issue is to: IOS 9.2 update .

    OK, now it works.

I think that what I had was specific to my carrier - as well as anyone with this problem likely needs to communicate with their provider!

For Ting (Sprint), here's what I had to do:

    1. to connect to a Wi - Fi network

    2. dial # 873283 #.

    3. press the call key

    4. press "Start Service Update" and wait a minute or two.

    5. press on "Full Service Update" and wait a minute or two for the phone to reconnect to the Sprint network.

    6. once the upper line shows that Sprint is connected, I could make and receive phone calls.

Yes, it is a complete and utter scam.  Assuming that you don't give them access to your computer, you're probably pretty course.  They are the so-called "canvassing" - selection of lists of random phone numbers and try to sell services and/or access to your computer.  You did the right thing, hang up on them.

  • Phones calls Smart blackBerry does not and cannot text

    Hello

Since Friday, I was unable to take a phone call for more than 20 seconds and not able to send text messages. The call fails each time exactly 10 or 20 seconds. This requires that the call is incoming or outgoing. I tried to pull the battery and that solves the problem temporarily, but it usually returns in about 5 minutes. I am able to receive text messages.

    Phone Info:

    Carrier is Bell Mobility

    BlackBerry Bold 9000

    OS v5.0.0464

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice, I visited the Bell shop today and they recommended a new SIM card. This solved my problem.
