cannot run or uninstall Microsoft security essentials or install new version
Original title: what is error code ox80073601
Hi DavidValentine,
Check that you have removed all other anti-malware real-time products that were already installed on your PC, including free products / trial that were installed when the PC was purchased (Norton, McAfee, TM, AVG, OneCare, Malware bytes (paid), etc.).
Note: If you use more than one antivirus or antispyware program at the same time, your PC may know a decrease in performance, become unstable, or restart unexpectedly. Before you install Microsoft Security Essentials, or if you want to solve problems with Microsoft Security Essentials, including the update of issues, you must first completely remove your PC Internet security programs.
You may have to uninstall/reinstall MSE. You should be able to remove MSE of the Control Panel. Uninstall problems see:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/uninstalling-mse/a63b8c4b-58ed-437e-8086-fa08d80725a4
Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. How to back up and restore the registry in Windows:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registryRecommend that you restart the computer to ensure that the uninstall is complete. You can download a new Installation of MSE file fromhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/security-essentials-download

Often after I reboot my system, a red shield with a white "x" appears in my notification area with a message of balloon saying "your computer may be at risk. The shield remains there until the next time that I reboot. This bug won't be fixed?
This bug won't be fixed?
Good question.Assuming that there is no malware and MSE is indeed enabled and up-to-date, you probably experience the effects of a condition of competition ',' Security Center where his thing before MSE does his. It is very common; I wouldn't worry on this subject (even if it's boring!). -
Windows Defender is disabled by Microsoft Security Essentials
I just uninstalled Windows Live One Care and installed Microsoft Security Essentials (the new free program). Windows Defender was always "off" under Windows Live One Care. Defender warned me that he can 'stops' also now that Microsoft Security Essentials is installed. Is it the way it should be? I have not any instruction on the site of Windows CE. Can you tell me please?
Solved. For some reason any installation IS does not stop Defender tries to start. Solution (as you would expect) must have Windows Defender off HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run - exactly why Security Essentials is not beyond me...

I removed Bitdefender because it slowed my computer down a lot. I then installed Windows Defender and updated and scanned the computer (no problem) and said it was "protect my computer". But the Windows Security Center does not see any antivirus, until I installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Why? And are two antivirus programs now runmning together?
Microsoft Security Essentials need to uninstall Windows Defender when it is installed. If youshould not uninstall via Add/Remove programs. See the following topics:
Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials
I hope this helps.

Do I need to install Windows defender if I have Microsoft Security Essentials?

Do you mean Microsoft Security Essentials? If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, you need not advocate or Onecare.

I keep trying to update and all these errors reappear. I can't install Microsoft Security Essentials and any update of Windows. I tried to do system Recoery by pressing F11 after reboot, and it does not work either. I'm guessing that something might be wrong with the registry or there is a virus but I am not a computer wiz. I don't have the Vista recovery disc and the original disk to restart. is it possible to fix this?
I paid to get it to format in November 2010... I installed a fake Windows Vista on it (32 bits but my PC on a 64-bit password) so I had to clean install it.
I don't understand: If you paid someone to format the HARD drive and do a clean Windows, when install I YOU "installed a 32-bit Vista?"
If your parent friend had lost the Windows CD comes with the brand new computer, the person you paid use to do the clean install of Vista 64-bit?
I do not see KB948465 in installed updates, only KB956250 & KB256506
I asked only KB948465. In any case, KB256506 is not an update or a section of the play.
No, I never had any other than Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus
Again, I don't understand. If you have never had any other antivirus MSE and MSE has been installed since November 2010, why you try to 'install Microsoft Security Essentials' now?
Q: which, if any, of these updates ARE LISTED in updates installed (no update history)?
A: See the number 3, I don't see anything else apart from those twoWhat "number 3"? You see nothing else, in addition to the two updates to date?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I give up. I can't help you if you do not answer my specific questions in your very next answers! I think you'd better take the computer back to the repair shop & pay to figure what's wrong (yet). Good luck.
In & out...
I need to keep Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials installed?
My question is, what do I need to keep Windows Defender installed too, or I can uninstall it.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and it works fine. I am running Vista 64 bit with service PK. 2 and the Defender is installed under Vista. Before MSE I used Windows Live One Care until my subscription has expired and that they did not renew it. At that point, I finally installed MSE. Windows defender can be uninstalled? It seems to be an unnecessary element in my Security Center.
Hello
No it can't be uninstalled
It is part of the vista operating system
by default must disable MSE, it
If for any reason any MSE has not disabled it read this;
read the information on the below link on how to disable the windows defender service in vista or make an autostart to enable
and here is the method to remove it from startup in vista
http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/remove-Windows-Defender-from-Vista-system-startup/
and this is how you would normally activate or disable windows defender in vista from within defenders of own and options tools
http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/disable-Windows-Defender-for-Microsoft-Vista/
and this is a very good Anti-Malware/spyware program to use in place of Defender
an anti-virus can not find any problems
you need to scan with a good anti-malware program
Download update and scan with the free malwarebytes anti-malware version
Error Windows Defender 0x800106ba after installing Microsoft Security Essentials
I have Vista Home Basic. I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, now Windows Defender gives me an error 0x800106ba message whenever I try to start. Does not work in conjunction with each other? And if so how can I make them work together?
Is it necessary to have Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials installed?
I use WD for many months, but recently had a bad and also installed malware attack MSE. Do I have both installed, or MSE joined WD?
MSE has its own version of Windows Defender built into it.
It should disable the Vista of Defender version.
And a little more protection, use of Malwarebytes FREE version:
Download, install, upgrade and scan once a fortnight.
Just installed Windows 7. Rid of Kaspersky and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. Good choice? And do I need anything else?
Kaspersky is a great AV program But for a free option, MSE is also very good. Nothing will catch 100% of things, but MSE is one of the few that do a great job!
You may download Malwarebytes and run the free version, make a weekly scan. These two together can usually keep your system very clean and safe.But do not forget also to navigate safely. Do not download random programs or open attachments that aren't expected, etc... -
When you open the e-mail, the arrow cursor has the blue circle that runs continuously. There are some letters lapping on the e-mail page. No old or new emails cannot be opened. Two weeks ago, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and this problem has been resolved until today; the same problem to access old e-mail is back.
Try to compact and repair the database (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/). Then in security essentials exclude the eml files of research (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3), because this results in a mismatch between the WinMail database and what is actually in the message store, generating problems such as you see.
See if that fixes the problem. You can also try to remove your e-mail account and then closing and reopening of Winmail opener and then add it again. See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm for information about the message from WinMail store organization.
