Migrate from Dictionary Managed Tablespace locally managed - 10g

Is there a document that indicates best practices to migrate the management measure dictionary managed tablespace to locally managed with automatic segment management space.

I read that we can migrate using the DBMS_SPACE_ADMIN. TABLESPACE_MIGRATE_TO_LOCAL Procedure, but is not very clean because existing data will still use the managed dictionary and new lines inserted will follow the local space management, is this correct?

Can someone please provide comments?

Thank you
KeV

Kevin, my personal opinion is that future space management will be much easier for the DBA if the ADMINISTRATOR creates new tablespace by using local management instead converts the tablespaces in place. When the packaged DBMS_SPACE_ADMIN. Procedure TABLESPACE_MIGRATE_TO_LOCAL serves the existing objects are not resized and parameters such pctincrease are still in force. Convert the tablespaces bring their problem of fragmentation of space with them.

New start. Also if you want to use SAMS you put on when creating tablepsace so new is necessary in this case. ALTER table move and alter index rebuild are an easy way to move most tables/index to the new tablespace. The old exp/imp can be used for objects with long columns.

I saw the free space fragmentation problems in a tablespace which was not converted-allocation automatic. The use of auto-allocate will considerably reduce the likliness of a problem free space fragmentation, but in some cases, you may still experience the problem.

    Dear friends,

I need to move my tables with data from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10 g. How can we make the best possible?

    Please guide me.

    Nith

Here are the 4 options (it is perhaps more)

    * 1.* export to text file in SQL2005 and load text files using external table in Oracle

    * 2 in the Oracle ODBC for SQL Server connection configuration and simply pull the data using create table abc to select * mytable@sqlserver - if the oracle is on windows, this should be quick, free and painless, it works under unix as well. Examples

    * 3.*, I think that you can configure the connection between SQL SERVER and Oracle

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/280106

or and I hate this solution in general, but it works in the content is low

    * 4 in MS Access link to ORACLE and MS SQL Tables (two linked tables) and then create the insert query to move the data from the server sql for oracle - this solution works, but it is quite slow.

  • ORA-12913 cannot create the dictionary managed during import tablespace

    Greetings,
I'm a newbie om moving databases between servers.

I get the following error: "ora-12913 cannot create tablespace dictionary managed" when executing the data pump import. It is a 10.2.0.4 database that I'm moving from HP - UX PA-RISC to HP-UX-Itanium. It seems that all managed tablespaces locally were ok. Some of the successful dictionary tablespaces had problems (DRSYS, INDX, RBS, TOOLS)

Should I convert all tablespaces dictionary managed locally managed tablespaces before data pump export/import? Note that this is a very small database with little use, then what better practical performance I'd like to hear.

    Thanks colin

    >

Only the SYSTEM will have to be migrated to managed locally. The RBS tablespace can be deleted if there is a separate UNDO tablespace and the database uses undo automatic management.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the fixafd.reg file, choose open with... and select the registry editor.

  • Migration from SQL Server to Oracle during 11.1.2.4 upgrade

    Hi all

To further expand on the title, wanted to check if it is possible to migrate from SQL Server to Oracle, while improving 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4 on brand-new material. There is a change in all the components (s/w, h/w, RDBMS) so I wanted to run this generic statement by the forum to see what the experts think.

Where in the equation can count us on LCM?

I know that John Goodwin had already answered a few questions on the same subject for previous versions, but as 11.1.2.4 is a different game... I would be grateful if someone could share their thoughts.

    Thank you!

If you are installed on hardware costs and migration then it should be independent of the RDBMS. Not to say there is no problems with passing of 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4 (if you use planning, for example, business rules-> Calc Manager) but they certainly should not be linked to the fact you've changed the underlying database.

  • Planning application migration from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008.

We have a DB SQL Server 2005 to 2008.

Customer is underway for DB Upgrade only and not upgrade the Hyperion applications.

    Hyp version: 11.1.2.1

Components: Planning Hyp, EN and related services, ODI.

    I intend to

1 put level SQL Server side by side and not place

2 migrate Legacy applications on new server

If someone has done this before faced any problem? I see no any problem which should appear as a result of migration from 2005 to 2008 Server, but I wanted to be clear about this. How to plan the application will manage the change in DB.

Is there a method / recommended for this migration?

    Thank you

    Anjum

SQL Server upgrade does not impact on Hyperion.

If in the case of practice on different servers, I mean 2005 server 2008 Server, we have to configure again.

  • I'm trying to migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, with all updates.

original title: sharing fails file of Windows XP Home edition

I'm trying to migrate from W2K to Windows XP Home edition (Pro/SP3 with all current updates from today ' hui).  My network has several computers with the help of a working group.  I noticed that WXP defines what is called "Simple file sharing" (SFS) that did not exist in W2K.  However, I think that my W2K installation was equivalent to what we call SFS.  What I shared with readers and only granted the permission reading for everyone.  My migration technique involves the use of multiple bootable media to create the Windows XP Home edition system without changing anything on W2K systems.  The I want to share files on separate partitions of the system drive / start / we.  These data partitions are the same drive letters on all systems.  Sharing works as expected in all cases, except that the new system of Windows XP Home edition won't file to other systems (clients).  All client systems receive the same result which is a message access denied as follows:

\\computer_name\share_name is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  ...

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

On the new system that is unable to use the files, the event log contains a message that says the following:

The "irpstacksize" server configuration setting is not enough for the server to use a local device.  Please increase the value of this parameter.

I found a number of items on this site about IRPStackSize.  An inspection of all computers reveals this registry key is not set on any of my systems.  This includes the W2K running on the same computer systems that are capable of serving the same files that fail on Windows XP Home edition, with no problems.  Any of those articles gives no justification for what is an appropriate use for the IRPStackSize value.  Moreover, some articles describe a situation where arbitrarily increase the size works for a short period, but does not seem to be a sustainable solution.  In addition, there is a range of valid values, and some articles describe that max is achieved without solving the problem.

Therefore, I am skeptical about the idea that there is a real solution.  Can anyone provide an explanation on why specifying a key IRPStackSize is going to help (or not)?  If Yes, what is the right value?

  • How to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 non-destructively?

How to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 to non-destructively?... meaning is there a way to do this without backup data (on the XP disk), the Windows 7 upgrade and then restore the XP backup data?

Moreover, since the structures of folders (I am told are slightly different) XP and Windows 7 where can I restore the data from?

for example where my Documents from XP to go on the side of Windows 7? and so on... there at - it a 'table of equivalence' for this?

    Thank you.

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

  • Migration from the old to the new storage box

    O/s - AIX
Present Storage - storage IBM XIV
New storage - HP EVA 8400

We intend to migrate from old storage to the new storage box. Here's the oracle servers.
storage team and AIX o/s teams will migrate data from the old to the new storage box storage box. (step of migration include - backup of volumes of the o/s and even restore in new storage box).

WHAT SHOULD DO ORACLE DBA, RECOMMEND SO THAT OUR ORACLE DATABASE SHOULD WORK JUST FINE ON THE NEW STORAGE SYSTEM? Please share your entries?

My hypothesis: The o/s team as AIX will be due work migration preferred to be a s/n, we need not do binary oracle / oracle data files will be the same migrate to new storage box as it is. We being ORACLE DBA should simply ensure that we should have our oracle databases registered with us architecture.

All Suggestions, questions are welcome, thank you friends.

Yet once if administrators can make the local hard drive appear identical to the operating system when the contents of the disc is moved to the new storage unit you should not have to do anything. If the local drive cannot make it appear exactly the same that I would probably want to re - install Oracle and patch then just start my database to the newly built House. The note of Oracle on cloning Oracle Home can present a different option.

It would be nice if this process has been run on a test server before production, because according to your window, you don't want to build a new House of Oracle after the migration to disk. I would like the House to be brought as part of the file movement or I would create before it is tested and ready.
