migrate the NAS device file system

Current config: host CentOS; Ubuntu Vm; VMWareServer.

I'm migrating file systems of a number of Ubuntu VM running on a host of CentOS to a NAS device which is mounted via NFS.  I am running VMWare Server (64-bit)

Current configuration:

Release of centOS 5.2 (Final)

Ununtu VM: 2.6.18 - 92.1.18.el5 #1 SMP Wed Nov 12 09:19:49 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I see some contradictory information, so I would appreciate an idea if you have a similar project.

Thank you.

Can I use rsync to copy the virtual host to the NAS disk or do I have to use the vmkfstools command?

Any guest arrested or Hibernate mode can be reproduced by any tool you like (rsync, unison, cp, mv, no matter).

No risk of problems with disc ID / Grub?   How do I point to the new location of the virtual disk?

You didn't play something with raw devices? Haven't you? If this is not the case, the 'virtual' disk is only one (the) (*.vmdk) file that is moved/copied to the new location. Which does not affect its content, nor that it does not change the disk IDS.

There could be problems with ISO attached hard coded paths for CD/DVD. They can be set by editing the appropriate *.vmx or using the WebGUI of Server 2 for this guest (guest physical or ISO settings based on CD/DVD).

Is the same for drives, if you specify special data store options, the *.vmx expect to find his 'virtual' disk in the same place as the *.vmx.

To be sure, take a look inside the appropriate *.vmx (open with a text editor).

  • Help? With the help of file system Ext3 on key USB on Linux RT target

    We have been affected by problems with the SD cards and USB drives formatted in FAT32 on some devices, according to Linus RT of long-term monitoring (mainly the cRIO-9035). It seems that readers are vulnerable to fluctuations in current and unexpected reboots (which are inevitable on these sites). Write aborted operations make the damaged discs, thus sabotaging logging after reboot.

    We have identified two solutions; implement both gives the best redundancy:

    (1) installation of UPS (uninterrupted power supply for emergency supplies/batteries) - done

    (2) using the file system apparently more robust 'ext3', which is available on the target RT Linux (FAT32, ext2 and ext3) - don't have not so far:

    ->, I was not able to properly format a USB stick for ext3. I use the MiniTools Partition Manager and don't get any errors when create and format partitions. But they appear as 'read only' when it is inserted into the chassis of the RT. All attempts to access it, other than to observe the empty folder sdxx in ' / media "is returning errors.

    Someone had a bit of luck with the help of ext3 disks formatted as data drives on the objectives of the RT Linux? It is worthwhile to solve my problems or should I use FAT32 and the observed risk?

    I do not consider this but a temporary solution:

    I ran into issues when you use MiniTools Partition Wizard to partition and format my thumb on Win10 records. An unidentified change makes the inaccessible disks and freeze the browsing of file on the PC when I try to delete the partition. It was quite annoying!

    I decided to try another partition tool and went for the EaseUs Partition Master (free version for the moment). I formatted successfully one of the troublesome discs with it (to add some uncertainty to the solution, I used another brand sp * banking, new PC to do). The reader now mounted in read-write and allows the startup application create the I want to store files in folders.

    Hello

    Download update and scan with the free version of malwarebytes anti-malware

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/MBAM.php

    You can also download and run rkill to stop the process of problem before you download and scan with malwarebytes

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill

    If it does not remove the problem and or work correctly in normal mode do work above in safe mode with networking

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.

    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

    also run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

      The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

    If SFC detects the main problems it can't fix you may need to borrow a Microsoft dvd vista not an acer, HP etc. recovery disk and do a repair installation

    Hi nanditaberi,

    Since when are you facing this problem? What were the changes to the system between the time where everything has worked, and when you noticed the problem?

    This problem may be caused by this security software on the computer, uninstall them might solve the problem.

    Example: AVG, Zone Alarm

    Important:

    O before you uninstall the security software disconnect the computer from the internet. Make sure that the windows firewall is enabled.

    Ø you may need to check with the manufacturer of security software for reinstallation and activation.

    O re - install the security software on the computer.

    Hello

    I have already read many answer to this problem here, but unfortunately none of this applies to me. I have a Windows XP and for some time I've always started some message when starting my laptop on rundll32.exe on my desk. I checked and I have this file in my system folder. Since this morning, I became suddenly unable to use any application like Skype, messenger other messengers etc. I can't even run my AVG scan for viruses and not can't open most of the programs in the control panel including Security tab / does anyone have an idea how can I get rid of this virus, or at least turn back my applications, I can use?

  • Need a virtual copy of Windows 95 because of the incompatibility of file system

    I used to have an operating system of Windows 95 years in its hayday, and I have had several games that I liked to play on it.  Unfortunately, due to the configuration of NTFS file system and the fact that my machine is 64 bit, Windows 7 Home Premium system, means that it is totally incompatible with these games.  So my best option is to recreate the environment of Windows 95 (I tried compatibility mode).  I don't know where my old copy of the operating system installation disc fled to (I moved twice), and I'd rather get a copy legitimate ISO (that I could easily have created with the drive) to make a virtual machine in order to play these games even once.

    Now that you've read my story of misfortune, is it possible to get a legitimate copy of Windows 95 from Microsoft operating system more?

    Nope. Check Craigslist, eBay or yard sales.

    I have about a dozen CD supplied with the OEM systems... Some are still in plastic wrap! If you could use one of the people, are in the United States and can wait a few days for the USPS, I can send you one (toll-free). I don't know if they key is still attached or who has been attached to the computer. Let me know. You can email me at dharper * at * mstechpages.com and I'll get away from you. I don't have any best retail, AFAIK, just OEM.

  • How to go from stater from windows 7 to windows 7 Home Edition premium if I can't get the download of file system iso-13346 udf

    I bought a notebook with windows 7 starter on this subject, I would like to upgrade to windows edition Home premium that I bought, but when I try to install the software I get a message that I need to run file system iso-13346 udf. I tried to find a download for this without success, where can I find a download for this software without information confussing. Thanks for your help Bryan.

    If the Windows 7 Home Premium license you have access to is either an Express upgrade, full retail of upgrade or version, you can use the product key and upgrade Express from Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium. First of all, check that the edition of Windows 7, you are upgrading is already enabled (if it isn't, you will encounter complications and that you might start all by performing a clean installation). Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, click on the option to enter a key, enter the key of Windows 7 Home Premium, when asked, click Next, wait while checking the key, accept the license agreement, click on upgrade, wait while the software upgrades, (it may take 10 minutes or more depending on the if updates are required) your computer restarts automatically, after the reboot, Windows 7 will notify you updating the computer, the computer will restart once more automatically and will be completed the upgrade, a window will appear notifying the upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use, click Close, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium files the stored settings and programs.

  • Adding to the rule of file system capacity

    Hello

    The ability of current file system rule resembles the current % used and compared to a registry variable.   My team of storage request that I change the rule.  They wanted to be able to specify a more granuilar % as 99.5% for criticism or 99.2% for warnring (for specific disc) it's because these drives are very large.  However, it seems that the default metric is supported only integers... .such as 99%.

    That said my next idea was to change the alert rule that if the player was at 99% and had to say less than 1 GB of space... for example.  In this way, he would not be a problem for smaller and larger discs would have a second check.  However I don't know how to change the condition to achieve this result.  That's what brings me to yall.   Thanks for any help in advance

    Here is the current status for the warning

    test = true;

    for {(obj in scope.detail)

    If (obj.topologyTypeName.equals ("AccessInformation")) {}

    test = obj.writable;

    }

    }

    If {(test)

    return #capacityUsed # > = registry ("INF_FileSystemCapacityWarning");

    }

    Returns false;

    You can create your own registry variables and make double whole vs. and those who use instead.  With respect to the addition in the available space, you could manually set or use a registry variable.  There is space in MB.

    test = true;

    for {(obj in scope.detail)

    If (obj.topologyTypeName.equals ("AccessInformation")) {}

    test = obj.writable;

    }

    }

    If {(test)

    return #capacityUsed # > = registry ("INF_FileSystemCapacityWarning") & #spaceAvailable #.<=>

    }

    Returns false;

    Hello

    No, it won't corrupt VM or VMDK files simply by copying the folder. However, in the guest operating system (e.g. NTFS) file system may be affected. Suggest you take a snapshot or use some backup software.

    If you can afford it, powering the theVM. This will ensure the consistency of applications within the guest OS.
