Migration from XP to Windows 7 but drive C is still full

I've migrated my laptop Windows XP to Windows 7. However, my 100 GB hard drive shows 91 used and 10 GB free. I went through all the files in C:\users, registry, uninstall programs and can not find what makes up this 91 GB. How can I see this and then delete?

Right click on the C drive, and then select Properties

Select Disk Cleanup, it will scan the drive for redundant files. Once completed, click on clean up system files and it will do it again but this time with more reported options.

He has several options on what to remove. Windows.Old contains a copy of the user files and more of the XP system so make sure you have everything you need. If selected the update cleaning will result in the impossibility to cancel all windows updates so make sure that you are happy with that. Try to delete Windows.old otherwise normally generates errors in the authorization.

Check the program files to the directories of programs that you removed in the past, it is quite common for these do not properly cleaned for the uninstall program.

Use the root of C: search tool to search all files of a particular type *.jpg will display all the photos * *.mpg, *.wma etc for music files. These can take a lot of space without being obvious where he disappeared.

I managed to install a virtual maching runing windows 7, but when I try to migrate using the IP address, I get the message following "Migration converter cannot connect to the remote computer" that the two computers are on the same network.

Also tried to use the code of access but execution in an other error message.

Don't forget: the windows OEM licenses cannot be legally virtualized.

And since you can buy a license anyway, you had better build a VM from scratch - convert VM (especially of the pc vendors) is swollen and unstable.

If you do not need to convert (and have a way to get a legal license) using the standalone vmware converter and build the virtual machine on an external drive connected to the PC.

    Hello

Before purchasing Windows 7, follow these steps:

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

I am migrating from a computer with Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. Install my existing Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium or I have to buy it again?

    Hello

You can install and activate the perpetual software (purchased) two computers of the same type (mac or pc), as long as you use it on one at a time.

It is advisable to disable the software on a computer on which it will be is most used, especially before giving away or selling the computer or reformat the hard disk. Please see this link: How to disable the software.  This frees an activation if you have the option to install the software on another computer at any time.

You can please consult the system requirements for CS6:-system requirements | Adobe Creative Suite 6

  • Change from XP to Windows 7 OS driver need

I have a desktop HP a1620y CTO with a Realtek RTL8139/810 X NIC internet controller. Currently, I am running XP SP3 and am about to change the operating system to Win 7.  However, the Windows upgrade advisor shows that I need to update the driver of internet controller. He is currently 5.719.325.2009. I would like to know what the driver I need is so the internet controller does not work with Win 7.  I searched a few pilot sites, and there are a lot of different. Realtek appears not to be, but I can not searched properly. It would be good to know what works with this series of Realtek on my box. Also, I'm confused about chipset driver software vs. What do I need?

    Sorry, yes you're right...

This is the driver you need for the old version of the pci.  A sixth on the list.

Windows 8 does not include a desktop e-mail program, you will need to download and install a. You can also use the start screen Mail application.

If you want continuity in your messaging experience, you can download the Windows Mail successor, called Windows Live Mail:

Download Windows Essentials 2012 (Web installer)
Download Windows Essentials 2012 (Offline Installer)

  • Migration from XP to Windows 7 - where are the photos?

I'll put up a new Win 7 machine. I 30 000 pictures on my old XP machine, almost all in c:\documents and Marc Documents\My pictures\ < date >.  The file structure is different in Windows 7.  What is the best way to make photos the new machine (where I put them in the file system) and not spend the rest of the Decade, reconnect the photos in the catalog?

PSE 8 on the old XP machine will be disabled and reinstalled on the Win 7 machine.

If you use the Windows utility to transfer your account and your files to the new computer, and you use the same account name, it will copy your picture files in:

    c:\Documents and settings\mark\pictures

(the new location for "My pictures" on Windows 7).  Windows also creates a special type of shortcut from the old location:

    c:\Documents and Marc Documents\My Pictures

in the new folder my pictures.   For backward compatibility, programs like PES who tries to open the old location will be automatically (unbeknownst to them) open the new location.  However, Windows Explorer shows that shortcut but it won't let you access it.

So, if you also transfer your catalog folder (help > System Info on the old system to find), in theory when you open the catalog in PES on the new computer, all these former locations stored in the catalog will be automatically directed to the new location.   While this works normally, there are a few pitfalls - PSE can be confused by the fact that there are two different names for the same exact set of folders and files.  I think that this confusion is often harmless, but some people have reported strange conditions that peut have been caused by this confusion.

So if you really want to be sure and avoid using shortcuts backward compatible 'useful' to my images, I recommend to use the backup/restore method to move your catalog and photos, with the new location / option of the Original Folder Structure.   It has its own warts (very deep structures of records creation), but you can clean them up later.  Check out this FAQ and the Adobe referenced tech note for more details:

  • Try to migrate from the hard disk for ssd drive

Hello, 4 days ago I bought dell inspiron with windows 8.1 5748 and a 1 TB hard drive.

I also bought samsung 250 GB of ssd drive 840EVO to replace the disk of 1 TB of the laptop. I cloned the HARD disk drive and restored the image in the ssd drive and when I mounted the SDS disc and shot to the top of the laptop I got an error that it cannot detect a drive... Press F2 to enter setup F5 for diagnostics and F1 to reboot.

First I made sure to rise properly. After I checked I entered the bios where I noticed that the drive is recognized in the details of the system. The model was correct, the capasity as well. Fashion was ahci.

I ran the diagnostics and they couldn't locate a drive.

So, is this an incompatibility? I checked for updates to the bios and I see I m to date on that. The player is surelly ok as I have tested on another pc...

    What can I do?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Add1ctiv3,

We recommend that you use the recovery disks that are you ready when you got your system to restore the image of the original on the SSD hard drive. Since they have the same size, it should work without problem.

  • Migration from 5.5 to 6, but can keep vCenter quarantined?

I inherited an environment of 5.5 has been poorly managed for several years. My plan to fix this problem includes the creation of a totally new environment vSphere (on new hardware). To avoid the migration of any kind of who-knows-what the old vCenter unwanted data, I like to keep clean by creating a new vCenter Server 6 and migrate existing virtual machines of the environment of 5.5 (preferred) without never to connect these two together vCenters. I saw some people recommend Veeam's rapid migration to do - simply connect the two vCenters, Veeam and allow him to save the old vcenter and restore to the new. Is there a method better and/or support to address this problem that doesn't involve export OVAs? Must not be a migration to hot, but that would be nice.

    Recommendations much appreciated.

The simplest method is to stop your virtual machines in your environment to 5.5, remove them and then attach this shared to your new environment of 6.x storage inventory and add them to inventory and then migrate them to the new storage. You could get a challenge question when you add them to the inventory asked if they have been moved or copied, just inappropriate response and continue. You can have very practical backups and ensure that if your VMFS is an older version when you attach it again cluster you do not upgrade it until all virtual machines have been moved to different storage.

  • We think our computer to upgrade from Vista to Windows 8, but not sure if photoshop CS2 will still work? also how do I save it in a change because they say that I need to do a full clean instalation and I will lose all programs!

Not sure how this forum works? Did anyone see my question?

If you are in urgent need of help CS2 so my suggestion would be to avoid the upgrade to Windows 8 If you ran it on a Vista machine already.  It is likely to complicate things and you may end up with a system that is incapable of managing these old software.

  • I'm trying to migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, with all updates.

original title: sharing fails file of Windows XP Home edition

I'm trying to migrate from W2K to Windows XP Home edition (Pro/SP3 with all current updates from today ' hui).  My network has several computers with the help of a working group.  I noticed that WXP defines what is called "Simple file sharing" (SFS) that did not exist in W2K.  However, I think that my W2K installation was equivalent to what we call SFS.  What I shared with readers and only granted the permission reading for everyone.  My migration technique involves the use of multiple bootable media to create the Windows XP Home edition system without changing anything on W2K systems.  The I want to share files on separate partitions of the system drive / start / we.  These data partitions are the same drive letters on all systems.  Sharing works as expected in all cases, except that the new system of Windows XP Home edition won't file to other systems (clients).  All client systems receive the same result which is a message access denied as follows:

\\computer_name\share_name is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  ...

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

On the new system that is unable to use the files, the event log contains a message that says the following:

The "irpstacksize" server configuration setting is not enough for the server to use a local device.  Please increase the value of this parameter.

I found a number of items on this site about IRPStackSize.  An inspection of all computers reveals this registry key is not set on any of my systems.  This includes the W2K running on the same computer systems that are capable of serving the same files that fail on Windows XP Home edition, with no problems.  Any of those articles gives no justification for what is an appropriate use for the IRPStackSize value.  Moreover, some articles describe a situation where arbitrarily increase the size works for a short period, but does not seem to be a sustainable solution.  In addition, there is a range of valid values, and some articles describe that max is achieved without solving the problem.

Therefore, I am skeptical about the idea that there is a real solution.  Can anyone provide an explanation on why specifying a key IRPStackSize is going to help (or not)?  If Yes, what is the right value?
