migration of APs to the 5508 controller 4402

Hello all,.

We have two controllers (4402 and 5508) to one of the site.

Customers of services at present.

Both controllers have the same set of SSID but uses only a single group of AP.

What would be the best means to move APs on 4402 to 5508?

4402 services series years 1230 and 1240 AP. And looking at the note accompanying the WLC 7.6 code located on 5508,

years 1240 only are supported. So, we will need to get the replacement of the years 1230.

Someone suggested to go into every single years 1240 and change high availability for point to 5508 as primary and secondary 4402

(just in case the AP don't is not the controller) 5508 Once this is done, I can add the AP in the access point default of the group to broadcase the same SSID.

Is it enough for the task of migration?

Also, what is the requirement of default design for the number of necessary uplinks?

We have about 150 APs currently on 5508 that uses Group LAG of 1 4 uplinks.

Regarding the 4402, it is service 60 APs with 1 2 uplinks.

Thus with the APs on 4408 joining the 5508, 5508 serves about 210APs. 4 1 enough uplink is?

What is the best practice recommended requirement of uplink AP?  APs on 5508 are 3602 s and 3702 s.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. BTW two controllers are part of the same mobility group

Someone suggested going into every single 1240s and change the high availability to point to 5508 as primary and 4402 as secondary.(just in case the AP does not join the 5508 controller.) Once that is done, I can add the AP into the default AP group to broadcase the same SSIDs.Is that enough for migration task?

Yes, it is sufficient. Unless 5508 have the same available on 4402 AP group name, all years 1240 migration goes into default-group & you may need to add to the good group of AP. It is advisable to have same AP group created between the controllers where AP configured for failover.

Don't forget 1240 last took in charge in 8.0.x code. In order to better plan as well before moving on to 8.1 replacement code (expect less than 1-2 months of time). See below for more details compatibility matrix

http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html

Also what is the default design requirement for the number of uplinks needed? We have about 150 APs currently on 5508 which uses LAG group of 4 1G uplinks. Thus with APs on 4408 joining the 5508, 5508 will roughly serve 210APs. is 4 1G uplink sufficient?

4G LAG is more that sufficient for 250 AP, I'm sure that together the traffic will be much less of 4G if monitor you the traffic volume of the art on this trunk links.

What is the best practice recommended AP to uplink requirement? APs on 5508 are 3602s and 3702s.

I guess that all of these AP connected to 1 Gbps switch compatible PoE ports +. If your binding rising intercommutation is 1 Gbit/s, which would be the bottleneck, WLC to SW LAG before becoming a bottleneck.

  • 2602AP will not register with the 5508 controller

    Hello all-

We have a 5508 controller that manages the HA to about 20 branches - each branch has its own subnet. We have a single branch (subnet) with new 2602 AP who will not register with the controller. All communications to that subnet appear normal and there is no ACL in place between the AP and the controller. The AP is able to resolve the IP address of the controller via DNS and start the registration process, but then timeout. We have installed 2602 AP successfully to other areas of the branch and they fit without any problems - it is a problem only in one branch. I have attached a few debug messages below for a single point of access (it's a production environment, so I analyzed useless info) and also included messages from the console to a different access point (the console AP messages are the same). There are currently 9 AP here and none of them will record this. Any ideas?

  • Successor to the 5508 controller?

    Hello

I am currently using some 440 x controllers and I guess it's almost time to upgrade. I don't really want to buy a 5508, just because it is already > 4 years and so probably not very future proof (we have a 5-year window). On the other hand, the controller of 5760 seems to miss several features and has not even more since WLC 8.0 has been released. Currently, I'm also quite confused on the controller of Cisco strategy...

Anyway, did anyone of you has heard a successor 5508 or what's going to happen with the two not synchronized release threads (ios and wlc based)?

    Thank you

    Patrick

Anyway, has anybody of you heard about a 5508 successor or about what will happen with the two not synchronized release threads (ios and wlc based)?

The answer is 'yes '.  The long answer is "talk to your Cisco AM / SE" and NOT to your authorized dealer/seller of the Cisco.

The new materials are planned for mid - to end-2015.  That's all what I can say with respect to the subject of what is going to replace the venerable 5508.

Now, the time to strategy.  Cisco SALES' mantra since always this: IF, for example, the 5508 announced today, users have about three to five years to find financing to replace them.   Here's the deal: the wireless IOS, not aircraft operating system, does not do well.  Not at all.  So that alone dictates the WISN/5508-2 is going to be around for a few years.

Now, your biggest concern isn't when the EoS will be announced to the 5508/WISN-2.  Your biggest concern is your APs.  Have you read / seen the Release Notes for the firmware 8.0?  All APs 802.11 g only, as the 1130 and 1240, will be NOT permitted features 8.0.  They can join a controller with firmware 8.0, but they will have no 8.x features enabled.  So my hunch is this: the next major release, perhaps 8.1, all non - CleanAir APs, such as the 1040, 1140 won't 8.1 features enabled and the list will light.

  • Migration 1240 APs from a controller to a new controller

    Hi guys,.

I want to install a new controller 4404 and I just want to move the access points that are associated with my current controller to the new controller once installed.

The plan is to change the DHCP server once my new WLC is ready and change address IP 43 option of the old controller to the new controller. This seems simple enough for me.

    BUT,

I know that flash LWAPP on the AP sometimes gets stuck, and all access points are drilling above the ceiling and would be a nighmare to lower the ceiling and console in each of them.

If at the initial plan of simply by changing the option of server DHCP 41 in the new work of WLC IP address OK, or do a big risk for getting low ceiling tiles and all that jazz?

    Please can someone advise me?

    Thx a lot indeed.

    Ken

    Hi Ken,

First of all, if both controllers to run the same code, there is no program flash. Yet, the APs tend to remember the previous controller, that they were connected, so you might see APs taking time Looong to join the new controller, but they are expected to join later in any case.

Some other ways to do it:

-my favorite: Add the new controller to the same group of mobility than the first and let them know each other (add each IP and MAC controller to another). Then define this new controller the PDC on all points of access, restart them.

-Variant: If you use WCS, use a model to push the APs for the new controller.

-If you change the controller, set up a new one with the same IP addresses as the old (and of course to remove the old before you plug in the other).

-You can also put one of the APs in the same subnet as the other and use OTAP for others to join.

Don't forget that option 43 is just one means, among others, for the AP to the discovery of controllers as much as she possibly can before choosing which is best to join. Change option 43 will not remove the info on the former Comptroller of the memory of the AP, then it might be more effective to push toward the new more gently... but the technique 43 option should work even when...

  • The 1142n controller code

Just got some 1142n points. We have a controller 4402, but also a WISN. All controllers are running 4.2.176 code. I know, I need to run code 5.2 to the 1142n support. There are currently two versions of the posted 5.2 code. 5.2.157 and 5.2.178. I thought keeping the WISN 4.2 code and just upgrade the controller 4402 5.2 code to support APs 1142n. The 4402 controller is in a group of mobility with the WISN. If I run mismatched version code is it best to break the 4402 to its own group of mobility or just ensure that the APs on the 5.2 4402 have never the WISN as a secondary residence.

I was under the impression that 5.X code was not stable enough to start production. With the 1142 s, we have little choice. Is stable enough to operate on all the controllers of 5.2 or do I have to wait on that for the WISN.

It should be good. If you have problems, you can always restore your FW.

Make sure that you run also true bootstrap (4.2.112.0) emergency release version plus (5.2.157.0 ER).

The difficulty of your case is when you run the new codes on a WLC in order to support the PA 1140, what will happen if this controller fails? The AP would find the next controller and unfortunately it runs an unidentified code then 1140 would probably go... nuts?

  • 5508 controller & redundancy network/path

I read in other threads that it is possible to use several Interfaces AP (disabled LAG) and have a port connected to a switch and the second trunk port connected to a second switch, with two switches in question connected with each other and running HSRP (our two 6500 hearts). My understanding on 5508 controller is very limited and I have just thrown into this, because it is a "high priority" project and is said today to sketch something for a meeting later, but if I connect it all together, it's then not create a loop? I guess my question is, is the data/network traffic through the 5508 in a trunk (port1) to another (port2) and I'll finish by fighting errors on my carrots, that data would be to pass a downlink of reference1 to port1 (for example), then again down port2 and on another soul?

I read through the version 6 of the document as we speak, but it is not particularly clear on the delivery of the goods.

    Thank you!

    Alan

Correct... you cannot divide ports if the WLC is configured for LAG.  For your use, with 6 AP, then Yes, I don't see why using a port connected to different switches will cause performance problems.  If it is a trial and you later decide that you will have 2 WLC, then connecto a swithc and develop WLC to the other switch and use LAG.

Mobile Intel 915GM Express Chipset AlvisoGM 8 MB to 128 MB shared video memory
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600SE 128 MB of video memory
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X 700 256 MB of video memory

  • migration assistant for only the user folder

I'm helping a student who left a Time Machine backup College but suffered a hard disk failure in his MacBook Pro here. We can't clone or make a backup hard drive TM or run the recovery partition. All we could do was to copy the user on an external hard drive folder.

Apple replace the drive under warranty and installation of system software. When we reboot the machine that is repaired, we will be able to use setup assistant/migration assistant to transfer the folder to the user as it will not be recognized as another backup Mac or MC? Otherwise, what is the best way to get it on the laptop and recognized as a user it?

(She needs to work on its data before returning to the University is not an option to wait until she is back with his backup TM)

As far as I know the Migration can be done with just the folder of the user. What I would say is that you copy the text of the drive backed up by a folder. In other words, open the two folders of Documents and copy the text from the backup folder of Documents to the Documents from the computer folder. This, for everything except the library. Most of what is in the library will be restored as the computer is reconfigured and the applications are put back in place.

    I use this driver http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=DE&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 2 & selSeries = 153 & selProduct = 624 & selSho rtMod = 444 & language = 17 & selOS = 10 & selType = all & yearupl = DST & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = all Machines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = 12 & electedLanguage s = 17 & type = all & page = 2 & ID = 55434 & DISO = 1 0 & driverLanguage = 42

Install it on the Device Manager and right click on ethernetcontroller - installation driver. This is the message that no driver is found (in the right! folder) nothing can be installed...

I also remove ethernet controller, so that windows automatic reseacht for this, but nothing works.

    I don't know what I can do

    PS: Chipset utilities are installed

    Hello

I can post a link where you can download the driver but I put t know what driver is missing now. Do you mean the WLAN or LAN card? What is the device?

Please check the vendor and device ID to identify which device needs a driver. Go to Device Manager > right click on Ethernet controller > properties.
There you should find some information like PCI\VEN_xxxx & DEV_xxxx
With these codes you can look here to identify the device: http://www.pcidatabase.com/

After this verification, the page of Toshiba to download a driver.

  • Upgrading the graphics controller on Satellite A30-404

I have a Satellite A30-404 with a relatively weak Intel® 852GME Graphics controller, some people say that you upgrade this computer laptop isn´t possible since the graphics controller is onboard, but after some research on www.intel.com I came to the conclusion that this chip after all is not onboard but is a slot to order ATI or Nvidia a better graphic chip trough. but iam still not sure if the chip is integrated or not so I wanted to know if this is possible

    Hello

On the net I found detailed information on the graphics chip:

    Intel 852GME graphics controller
    Montara GT code name
    Yes engine 2D
    Yes 3D engine
    64-bit memory data Bus width

But as far as I know it s not possible to update the graphics card.
If you want you can ask to view ASP.

    Good bye
