Migration of domain Contoller with storage replication

Hi all

We are migrating the domain controller. As part of the migration, we will make Source domain controller storage level replication to destination DC; then add these LUNs /datstores to the new VCENTER and register the virtual machine (domain controller) and turn on.

Host name of the server and the IP address will remain the same. However, the MACid and UUID of the virtual machine will change. As the virtual machine is domain controller must we does support this kind of migration?

Help, please...

  • Try to migrate a virtual machine with storage vMotion

    Hello

When I try to migrate a virtual computer to another data store (using storage vmotion - change datastore option on migration Assistant) I still see this warning on the migration wizard: this virtual machine must be powered off to perform this function.

I'm completely lost, because I check the requirements to make a storage vmotion:

    1. license compliance: OK, we are authorized this feature

2 source and destination storage of data available on the host: OK

    3. no snapshots: OK

So, I do not understand why this message...

What can I do? (of course I can't turn off the virtual machine).

    Thanks in advance.

Which is my point... The message is related to the option greyed out only...

It may sound crazy that I am answering my own post.  As he complains about MigrationBasis.  I tried to go to the config.xml file and changed

    Cluster-0

    unicast

    database

    TO

    Cluster-0

    unicast

    consensus

And at least I was able to restart Server Admin and go to the Server Admin page. The Cluster-> Configuration-> Migration is always on view from database as the basis for Migration.

  • Problems with vSphere replication

    Hello

Ive been with vSphere for about a week now and I'm faced with the logic of the replication tool V.

I've been creeping (don't not trolling) forums and web trying to find a good source that can explain this plugin which is visible in my Web client installation method. I also license MORE.

This is probably the only one I can find so far: -.

    http://vknowledge.NET/2012/09/12/vSphere-5-1-getting-started-with-vSphere-replication-5-1/

What I want to achieve is to reproduce all the virtual machines on one of my servers to another identical server of the G8.

Two questions if you could help please?

    1. someone any good tutorials on it.

    2. I went and made a schoolboy error, I think, I gave the vSphere replicaiton appliance the same IP address as my ESXi host. (This is how I am wrong) and now I can not access the host because of this machine. Can someone tell me how I can reconnect to this machine without a comprehensive resettlement and reconstruction of 50 guests or more.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

It is difficult to explain the internel operation of the SRM, vsphere replication etc... in this little time...

the basics are simple... How it works... ?

There are 2 types of replication replication 1-vsphere 2-array based replication

vpshere replication is a basic agent - it's a VR agent will be there inside the esxi hosts this monitor of the agent running the virtual machine inside this host and replicates data binding if WAN remote site.

the main PR\648606FR here is - once the replication of the entire virtual machine that's happened, after that only the blocks changed the VMFS will be launched on the... which is the only the modified virtual machine data will be replicated. It's called CBT, VR agent follows the blocks inside the VMFS, if any block of virtual machine data is changed it will get replicated.

dosent it replication vsphere require no support from the underlying storage Bay...

the second is the table of a function... where the entire replication is managed by the matrix of storage... and it works with the MRS.

See the post for more details... http://communities.VMware.com/message/2175005#2175005

    now to your questions.

    1. someone any good tutorials on it. -the best method is to read the official docs...

    2. I went and made a schoolboy error, I think, I gave the vSphere replicaiton appliance the same IP address as my ESXi host. If the esx host is clustered, using the ILO and esxi shell put the host in maintenance... mode and reset the esxi

To switch to maintenance mode, run the following command

    VMware-vim-cmd/hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter

    and

To exit the maintenance mode, run the following command

    VMware-vim-cmd/hostsvc/maintenance_mode_exit

then restart the esxi host and give IP, or power off of the VR device and give IP

  • How to migrate all Windows data with attributes / privileges

I need create a new vmdk and transfer all the data to a physical windows, because I want to test.

What software can I use to migrate all the data with attiributes and privileges?

    WinSCP? Veeam?

    Kind regards!

If you have found this information useful, please consider awarding points to 'Correct' or 'Useful'*.

Attach your vmdk on a virtual Windows machine and use robocopy.

If the two machine Windows are in the same domain, you will have no problem with permissions and attributes.

  • problem with storage space - iPhone 4 - 32 GB

Hello, I have an iphone 4 32 gb. I'm having a problem with storage space. A few days ago, that even though I was taking 5 GB of empty space, a notification appeared that storage is almost full. I deleted about 2 GB of photos and videos. He showed me 2 GB of free space, but after 1 hour again the same notification appeared. As soon as I have emptied my space with about 1 to 2 GB by deleting photos or videos, it is completed with other data.

How should I solve this problem?

    Thank you.

What is the exact wording of the message? Could he be referring to iCloud storage?

Also have you withdrawn your recently delete pictures and videos? Deleted ones is 'saved' for 30 days or more unless you intentionally delete/remove

Why my iOS device I have more pictures that I can find?

  • Replicate the VMS with FTP and VM with virtual disk shared by: SRM with vSphre replication

I have a VM and FT is configured on it. Now I can reproduce the virtual machine with SRM with replication of vSphere. I have not configured array based replication. Similarly, I have two DB VMs cluster, but they share a virtual disk between them. Can I replicate these VMs DB with vSphere replication?

Your valuable contribution is much appreciated.

I got the answer, for the virtual machine with FT and shared virtual disk replication, to do SRM with array based replication. vSphere replication cannot replicate virtual machine with FT or shared disk.

In the past, moving VMs between databases or host with snapshots was deadly.

    It still happens in ESX4?

ESX4 does not throw the warning, as did ESX3.5.

You can migrate a virtual machine with snapshots, you can just see a different question.  You try to make a vMotion in vCenter?

What is the symptoms you see?

I was wondering can I use replication to replicate it in some shared storage for backup purposes, and if I had to lose it could I recover and this and be good to go? He runs a database integrated. or is it as AD/SQL/Exchange and in general you shouldn't use replication or something of the sort for them.

Also, if I have reproduced on the recovering site, I could pick it up and re protect him using MRS. and migrate to the main site once I had everything back up and restart? Is there a difference if I ran the vCenter device instead of the version of Windows inside a virtual machine?

My apologies if this has been answered before that somewhere, it just went through my mind randomly and Googling gives me really a lot of results, so if its been answered somewhere, please point me in that direction.

    Hello

vSphere replication requires vCenter to function, you cannot use VR to protect it that you wouldn't have a way to recover, unless it has been replicated on a different vCenter (whereby it might be recovered, but only inside the other vCenter) or if it has been managed by a different vCenter.

If you are in the second option, where you have a vCenter management appliance RV, and you have an another vCenter, so yes, you can use RS in this model to protect and auto restore your internal vCenter.

No difference in the functionality between vCA and windows version of vCenter.

As for your statement: "or is it as AD/SQL/Exchange and in general you shouldn't use replication or something of the sort for them."

    -vSphere replication supports VSS suspension

-I'm Okay I wouldn't recommend AD replication (SQL and Exchange or if you can use the built in replication at the application level)

-If you can not however, most modern applications work very well in a consistent state of crash (VR normal replication) and the rest works with VSS

    Hope that answers your questions

  • migrate the file to the Storage Server 2008 Server

As a result of a server crash, I was forced to temporarily use a desktop as a network file and print server.

I installed W2K8 and saved the folders and files recovered from the wreck of the original server, which had been virtualized using VMware.

I have a NAS on command, which comes pre-installed with Windows Storage Server.

There is a logon script, which should direct users to files right on the current file and print server, but it seems to be non-fonctionnel, as the .txt file, which he uses as reference contains several incorrect entries.  Despite this, everyone can still see the drives mapped on the temporary server!

I think it's maybe because the system has been implemented by using profiles, not homeless.

    Can anyone confirm this?

It would seem that this migration will not be easy.  Anyone has any advice that can help me in planning for this?  I intend to create a couple of test user accounts and groups and a couple of new fileshares, so I can experiment before you start the migration.

"Pointers" will be much appreciated, as this is the first time I tried this, and I see a lot of Hedges and traps.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    My company

Use VCenter to manage ESXI host.

    This week,

I'm going to migrate a virtual machine (Microsoft server 2008 with the domain controller

role) one ESXI server to another.

    If I use

the VCenter migration feature, it will be work? Or do I have to depromote my

    Server as a vm import/export?

    I want to

Remember, it'll be safe for this virtual machine.

    Thank you

    for your answer

Thus, no vMotion but it is no problem to move the client offline excpet they must be offline.

  • MS Windows Server Migration - physical to virtual with no. P2V

    Hello

I was wondering if someone could provide some ideas on the following situation we run into:

We have a file server Windows Server 2003 physical we want to virtualize.

Initially we wanted to P2V server and storage and create a vmdk for the server (drive C :) and a different vmdk for his (D: drive which is storage).)

We are now thinking about the possibility to create a new VM server with a clean install of Windows 2008 R2 and then copy the data to the SAN and present the LUN as RDM on the new VM server.

    I have the following questions/issues:

1.) as I said before that we do not perform a P2V instead, we want to create a new server VM W2k8 bearing the same name, IP etc... If at some point we can move (the VM server will be in a network isolated so far is ready) however how put us all the actions of the physical server to the new virtual machine?

Could we use Robocopy to do this? I was thinking something like...

Run a full backup with robocopy co-location W2k3 server to the new server VM that there be a drive D: created and presented by RDM (LUN). But it will not work because the server must be in an isolated network and it must have the same name, etc...

2.) this will be one of the main file server in the company, I've heard that putting the data on LUN and preseting using RDM will increase the IO? Is this real?

Somone to share some ideas on how to handle this type of migration?

You can copy the part of the register which holds all the shares from one server to the other.

Could we use Robocopy to do this? I was thinking something like...

You can synchronize the folders with robocopy.

The e/s? Of course, you will see the traffic passing records and their path to the San.

  • Update 10 gr 2 DB to 11 GR 2 while migrating to new server with the same operating system

    Hello

I need to upgrade and migrate as well a 10.2.0.5 single-instance ASM no database 11.2.0.1 on a new server. Source and target texts OS is Solaris 10 (OS version identical on SPARC 64-bit server is started), but the target server is upscale. DB size is about 1 TB. Only concern is that the storage in the existing configuration will be used with the new server as well.

Who will be the best way to do the upgrade and migrate with minimal downtime?

    Thank you

  • Major bug with storage Var MX 7.0.2 Client?

I think I found what looks to be a pretty big bug for client variable storage in CFMX. Strangely, the bug actually exists in CFMX 6.1 and CFMX 7.0.2 (the two versions, I test against), but only cultures upward in 7.0.2. In addition, you will notice that I say it's a matter of client variable (it is), but the bug seems to be with JSESSIONID, I thought only relate to session variables. My statement of the problem is that the variable customer 'disappear' after having been defined. In a Word, I log onto my site, which fixed a couple of variables customer, and then when I browse another page on the site, client variables are no longer in existence (it seems as if I've never connected before). I'm running CFMX 7.0.2 Enterpise (deployment of WAR) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 (update 3) using the internal JRun web server and using J2EE session variables.

After a bit of detective work, I noticed by looking at the HTTP headers on my first visit to the site (with no existing cookie set) which JSESSIONID is defined * double * when I first hit my site. However, a JSESSIONID is being stored in cglobal table while the other JSESSIONID is stored in the actual cookie, which causes subsequent research of incompatibility. Therefore, it seems that if I have never connected before.

Here are the relevant header information when you first visit the site:

    HTTP/1.x 200 OK
    Set-Cookie: CFID = 102; expires = Thu, August 14, 2036 13:20:27 GMT; path = /.
    Set-Cookie: CFTOKEN=66021081eab5f673-3609FCE3-CF52-FC2B-25E974A728406FC5;expires=Thu,14-Aug-2036 13:20:27 GMT; path = /.
    Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID = 583033e973025152237c; path = /.
    Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID = 58306b4060d425456d5c; path = /.
    Date: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 13:20:27 GMT
    Content-Language: en-US
    Content-Type: text/html; Charset = UTF-8
    Connection: close
    Server: JRun Web server

See how there are two directives Set-Cookie JSESSIONID? The interesting part is that CFMX 6.1 (on Solaris, at least) is exactly the same, as long as the Set-Cookie guidelines double go. However, here's where 6.1 MX and MX 7.0.2 differ...

If you look at what's coming in the real cookie compared to what is stored in the column 'data' in the table cglobal MX 7.0.2 you will see (based on the header above information):

    urltoken = CFID #= 102 & CFTOKEN #= d 66021081eab5f673-3609FCE3-CF52-FC2B-25E974A728406FC5 & jsessioni #= 583033e973025152237c #lastvisit = {ts' 2006-08-22 09:20:27 ""} #timecreated = {ts ' 2006-08-2209:20:26'}#hitcount=2#cftoken=66021081eab5f673-3609FCE3-CF52-FC2B-25E974A72840 6 FC 5 #cfid = # 102}

The key bit is the JSESSIONID value, that has the value 583033e973025152237c. However, the cookie JSESSIONID value is 58306b4060d425456d5c.

The same comparison with CMFX 6.1, the HTTP header info:

    HTTP/1.x 200 OK
    Set-Cookie: CFID = 3499; expires = Thu, August 14, 2036 13:31:50 GMT; path = /.
    Set-Cookie: CFTOKEN=525ea9a5badb14f2-36146ADA-DCAC-CE63-1706ADD070C8F8E1;expires=Thu,14-Aug-2036 13:31:50 GMT; path = /.
    Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID = 86308f1257484a747d6c; path = /.
    Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID = 8630627b049162583e68; path = /.
    Date: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 13:31:50 GMT
    Content-Type: text/html; Charset = UTF-8
    Connection: close
    Server: JRun Web server

And this is the value of cglobal.data column:

    urltoken = CFID # 3499 = & CFTOKEN #= 525ea9a5badb14f2-36146ADA-DCAC-CE63-1706ADD070C8F8E1 & jsession id #= 8630627b049162583e68 #lastvisit = {ts' 2006-08-22 09:32:03 '} #timecreated = {ts ' F8E1 2006-08-2209:31:50'}#hitcount=9#cftoken=525ea9a5badb14f2-36146ADA-DCAC-CE63-1706ADD070C8 #cfid = # 3499}

And the cookie JSESSIONID value is 8630627b049162583e68.

Note the key change in behavior between 6.1 MX and MX 7.0.2? 6.1, even if the two Set-Cookie instructions were updated, the logic of client variable storage at least systematically used second JSESSIONID value. In 7.0.2 it appears that the first JSESSIONID value is stored in the table cglobal while the second JSESSIONID value is stored in the table cglobal.

This is where the plot gets complicated still further... Even if my client variables are not returned on the following clicks through my site (he tells me I'm not connected), values for CFID/CFTOKEN/JSESSIONID are * not * re - put on each page. In fact, if I query the cglobal table directly out of my CFID/CFTOKEN, hitcount and lvisit values are actually updated!

It is a major obstacle in our migration process. Can someone dig a hole into my configuration/logic and point out something I am doing wrong? The craziest part about this, for me, is the client variables which disappear even if it looks like the culprit is the JSESSIONID value. I even tried to extinguish the J2EE session variables and exactly the same problem occurs.

    Kind regards
    Dave.

    AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! I got it!!!

I am frustrated with Adobe right now, but I finally got inside the client variable issue. You know how the accession of ColdFusion is believed to be cumulative? Yes, well, not so much. It turns out that the CFMX 7.0.2 release is available with 3.3 DataDirect JDBC drivers. In addition, it seems that something in the client variable code between MX 6.1 and 7.0.2 regressed so that updates of the client variable under the hood has broken with all pilot pre - 3.5. Once I updated to pilots of 3.5, everything worked, including the spy feature and the variable updates the customer.

Adobe, this must be resolved as soon as POSSIBLE. It's a huge show-stopper for site using client variables. I don't know if it is limited to Oracle because I have other RDBMS platforms to test against, but is a big problem. The difficulty here is update installation programs that are downloadable from your site with 3.5 drivers * and * update 7.0.2 Release notes note that the game 3.5 driver isn't in any downloaded bits before every time that you update the installation programs.

Jochem, thank you very much for your persistence in helping me through this issue.

    Kind regards
    Dave.
