Problems with vSphere replication

Hello

Ive been with vSphere for about a week now and I'm faced with the logic of the replication tool V.

I've been creeping (don't not trolling) forums and web trying to find a good source that can explain this plugin which is visible in my Web client installation method. I also license MORE.

This is probably the only one I can find so far: -.

http://vknowledge.NET/2012/09/12/vSphere-5-1-getting-started-with-vSphere-replication-5-1/

What I want to achieve is to reproduce all the virtual machines on one of my servers to another identical server of the G8.

Two questions if you could help please?

1. someone any good tutorials on it.

2. I went and made a schoolboy error, I think, I gave the vSphere replicaiton appliance the same IP address as my ESXi host. (This is how I am wrong) and now I can not access the host because of this machine. Can someone tell me how I can reconnect to this machine without a comprehensive resettlement and reconstruction of 50 guests or more.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

It is difficult to explain the internel operation of the SRM, vsphere replication etc... in this little time...

the basics are simple... How it works... ?

There are 2 types of replication replication 1-vsphere 2-array based replication

vpshere replication is a basic agent - it's a VR agent will be there inside the esxi hosts this monitor of the agent running the virtual machine inside this host and replicates data binding if WAN remote site.

the main PR\648606FR here is - once the replication of the entire virtual machine that's happened, after that only the blocks changed the VMFS will be launched on the... which is the only the modified virtual machine data will be replicated. It's called CBT, VR agent follows the blocks inside the VMFS, if any block of virtual machine data is changed it will get replicated.

dosent it replication vsphere require no support from the underlying storage Bay...

the second is the table of a function... where the entire replication is managed by the matrix of storage... and it works with the MRS.

See the post for more details... http://communities.VMware.com/message/2175005#2175005

now to your questions.

1. someone any good tutorials on it. -the best method is to read the official docs...

If the esx host is clustered, using the ILO and esxi shell put the host in maintenance... mode and reset the esxi

To switch to maintenance mode, run the following command

VMware-vim-cmd/hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter

and

To exit the maintenance mode, run the following command

VMware-vim-cmd/hostsvc/maintenance_mode_exit

then restart the esxi host and give IP, or power off of the VR device and give IP

  • with vSphere replication to replicate vCenter Server in a VM

    Hi guys,.

I am trying to find some info on this. I currently have vCenter 5.5 running on a Windows 2008 R2 VM server. I was wondering can I use replication to replicate it in some shared storage for backup purposes, and if I had to lose it could I recover and this and be good to go? He runs a database integrated. or is it as AD/SQL/Exchange and in general you shouldn't use replication or something of the sort for them.

Also, if I have reproduced on the recovering site, I could pick it up and re protect him using MRS. and migrate to the main site once I had everything back up and restart? Is there a difference if I ran the vCenter device instead of the version of Windows inside a virtual machine?

My apologies if this has been answered before that somewhere, it just went through my mind randomly and Googling gives me really a lot of results, so if its been answered somewhere, please point me in that direction.

    Hello

vSphere replication requires vCenter to function, you cannot use VR to protect it that you wouldn't have a way to recover, unless it has been replicated on a different vCenter (whereby it might be recovered, but only inside the other vCenter) or if it has been managed by a different vCenter.

If you are in the second option, where you have a vCenter management appliance RV, and you have an another vCenter, so yes, you can use RS in this model to protect and auto restore your internal vCenter.

No difference in the functionality between vCA and windows version of vCenter.

As for your statement: "or is it as AD/SQL/Exchange and in general you shouldn't use replication or something of the sort for them."

    -vSphere replication supports VSS suspension

-I'm Okay I wouldn't recommend AD replication (SQL and Exchange or if you can use the built in replication at the application level)

-If you can not however, most modern applications work very well in a consistent state of crash (VR normal replication) and the rest works with VSS

    Hope that answers your questions

  • Problem with vSphere license

I am trying to add a license to a free vSphere installation 5.1 and I see this error message. My Dell R710 server has 72G RAM, 2 x 1 TB and 2 x 6-Core 5660 2.80 Hz CPU.

I have attached the log. Any help will be appreciated!

    Thank you

    JM

With vSphere 5.0, VMware is launching a policy which limited the maximum physical memory on a host or a cluster, according to licenses "vRAM". For the free hypervisor maximum was 32GB. This political vRam has been deleted again with vSphere 5.5 (see for example KB VMware: VMware vSphere 5.5 license and/or Update vRAM political). I'm not sure if policy has also been removed from the earlier 5.x version with the latest patches!

  • Problems with vSphere 6.0 and IIS 8.5

    Hi all

We have a very rare problem currently with IIS on a new version of vSphere 6.0.  We run 3 host ESX enterprise in a standard cluster with a standalone VCSA.

The problems that we know are response times in IIS.  We lack an asp.net web application using ado.net to extract simple data sets in a cluster SQL from 2012.  The web server running Windows Server R2 with IIS 8.5.9600.16384 2012.  It comes to virtualized.  Our SQL servers are also running on Windows Server 2012 R2, but this is a physical cluster.  All components are updated running the latest windows patches, fixes vmware, etc.

We have tried to limit the problem using wireshark, we noticed that speeds improved dramatically when running wireshark.  We have finally pinned it down to the NETWORK card is in promiscuous mode - mode "Promiscuous", web response times app are sub 100ms, and when we disable the promiscuous mode, response time pop up to 4 + seconds.

I found a few articles that might put this question of vSphere RARP and NLB in unicast mode, but we do not use NLB on any of these servers, and many of our tests were performed on servers IIS "standalone".

Someone encountered this problem before, and anyone has pointers?

    Thank you

It looks exactly like the problem that is described in this thread:

vmxnet3 adapter on windows server 2012 with problem of bottleneck for MSSQL Server

You also use the vmxnet3 vNIC?

If yes are trying one of these workarounds mentioned in the other thread (I'd go with LRO to start, do not forget to restart):

    E1000E use instead of vmxnext3

Use jumbo frames (not really good for us but can be one good option for others...)

Disable the LRO on a VMXNET3: enable or disable LRO on VMXNET3 adapter on a Windows Virtual Machine

Turn on LRO overall on a Windows Virtual Machine

    Hello

I couldn't understand how just after to the Foglight for virtualization forum, so I apologize for this post being in the wrong place.

I have the Foglight 7.0 Standard edition and I'm unable to see virtual machines on the hosts of a new vCenter Instance I added to Foglight.

I have enough licenses and the hosts appear in the inventory, but if you hover over one of the new hosts attribute 'State' reads "Not responding" and appear any of the virtual machines in the cluster.

Any ideas as to what could go wrong or what I would have been able to hurt?

  • Problem with vSphere

    Hello everyone

I have a 2003 Server virtualized. mounts on vSphere ESXi 5.0.0

I moved a drive to a virtual machine (so a hard) on a free data store: http://oi62.Tinypic.com/swelaa.jpg

the problem is that the data store 1 (up arrow) is empty, when in fact there are 880 GB of hard (arrow in the middle).

the same way I can't enlarge the hard content in the data store that has emerged at the same time: http://oi58.Tinypic.com/2yyd16p.jpg

the maximum capacity in the red box was the same even before the transfer.

    What can I do?

Please select the host in the vSphere Client and go to 'Storage' in the 'Configuration' tab select each of data warehouses, and click the "Refresh" link in the upper right to see if that changes anything.

  • Problems with vSphere 4.1 u1

We recently put the 4.1 vSphere u1 patch and it seems that the script is having a hard time getting all the stats in our VMware environment. I run the script by using the credentials that have administrator rights, so he should have access to see everything. Yet when I run the report I only end up seeing the licenses, features, permissions, sessions, plugins and settings of VPX. (ie: everything on the first two tabs of the report.) I don't see anything for 3rd party apps tabs, cluster, host or virtual machines.

    For my versions:

    $./vmwarevSphereHealthCheck.pl--version

vSphere SDK for Perl version: 4.1
    'VmwarevSphereHealthCheck.pl' script version: 4.1.9

I have also re-uploaded the script this morning to ensure that I had later and was always a problem.

Any idea of what this could be the cause?

If it's not too much to ask, would it be possible to remove this empty cluster at the moment? I've tested w/empty code clusters, so it should not affect something but just trying to figure out what could be the cause of the problem.

  • Problems with vSphere install

    VM experts! : P

I am very new to VM and unfortunately am responsible for getting ESX4 vSphere4 running on a slide in our chassis HP C3000. So, I installed vSphere4 and encountered some difficulties. First of all, there are four available within the chassis NIC (2 built-in, 2 via a mezzanine card)

I have configured the Service Console with an IP address in the subnet that the NETWORK card is attached to (10.100.1.180) and the strange thing is that from the ESX console I ping some IP addresses on the same subnet as 10.100.1.105 we are going to say, but not 10.100.1.50. ICMP is enabled on devices, so it is not a firewall simply disabling echo answers.

Including a screen capture of the screen of networking within vSphere for reference...

I think that it probably has to do with the configuration of your circuit.  I use Virtual Connect modules, but if I read right then GbE2c modules are leaving entire switches.  In this case, I'm guessing that you have shared resources on GbE2c ports modules.  If Yes, then you MUST use IP balancing hash.  It is not intuitive, but here the rule of load balancing:

If the switch can use any port in the trunk to return data to the virtual computer, you MUST set the hash IP load balancer.

If the switch will not only associate one active port in the trunk with the MAC address of the computer virtual both (based on the configuration of your switch load balancing), then you SHOULD NOT Load Balancing IP hash value.

So, try setting the hash IP balancing and let me know.

  • Problem with vSphere HA (vSphere HA Agent status electoral or inaccessible)

We have 8 cluster nodes (5.5 Esxi)

After the reboot of the switch works vMotion.

And status of the HA agent changed his election or inaccessible (except for a single node, which has the status of agent HA a mask).

Tried to disable and reactivate XP on a cluster. Tried to remove a node from the cluster and enter it again.

    What could be the problem?

Contributed to the complete elimination of the configuration of the network for 4 nodes. And reconnect them to the cluster.

  • Limitation of simultaneous jobs for vSphere replication

Is there a way to limit the simultaneous use configured in vSphere replication?  It seems that we can only configure Apr but not simultaneous/concurrent jobs ran.  We have problems of saturation of bandwidth and therefore would like to prioritize virtual machines get replicated on before others.

    Thank you.

It is not a way to directly prioritize VMs with vSphere replication. VR plans dynamically replications to try to meet RPO for all VMs replicated so if you have a few virtual machines that are not met the RPO I would reduce your RPO settings. You might also take a look at the VR bandwidth calculator: http://www.vmware.com/vrcalculator and determine what your pipe can support parameters.

  • vSphere replication when vCenter is down / crashed

I turn to convert our environment of re-usable in a VMware HA cluster, with MRS with vSphere replication Dr.

I want to know what will happen with the vSphere replication in either of the following scenarios

    1. A: vCenter Server running, Site B: vCenter Server of the site down
    2. A: vCenter Server down, Site B: vCenter Server of the site down

I'm not really able to find a clear answer on the web. I hope that replication of vSphere components still work, I don't know if the vCenter really need to work properly after the replication has been implemented.

vSphere replication is not dependent on vCenter for replication. Is dependent on the vCenter on target for recovery website. So in your examples (assuming that you are replicating b > has):

    1. the replication continues. You can restore a virtual computer needed

    2. the replication continues. You would not be able to recover a virtual machine until vCenter was running.

If you use SRM, SRM depends on vCenter (on-site running SRM) as well.

    Does make sense?

  • Replicate the VMS with FTP and VM with virtual disk shared by: SRM with vSphre replication

I have a VM and FT is configured on it. Now I can reproduce the virtual machine with SRM with replication of vSphere. I have not configured array based replication. Similarly, I have two DB VMs cluster, but they share a virtual disk between them. Can I replicate these VMs DB with vSphere replication?

Your valuable contribution is much appreciated.

I got the answer, for the virtual machine with FT and shared virtual disk replication, to do SRM with array based replication. vSphere replication cannot replicate virtual machine with FT or shared disk.

  • SharePoint server and vSphere replication

Anyone here tried to achieve a single SharePoint server (two-tier deployment) replication 2013 to Dominican Republic with vSphere replication?

The database backend, SQL Server 2012 Standard is replicated using mirroring, but I don't know what are my options for the area of VM.

  • vSphere replication

I just have a few questions on vSphere replication, I deployed the device on one of my ESXi hosts and I have the replication of configuration for some of my virtual machines.

They must reproduce successfully, these replicate to a computer host which is another of my sites (although it all on the same network that the other site is linked directly via the BT 100 MB fiber connection)

My question is this: If something happens to the building where our servers are located and also where I have the installer of vCenter server to manage my environment ESXi, how do I get the VMs back to work on the host, they have replicated too?

Hope this makes sense, I know that I can use the web management interface to manage vreplication device to retrieve the VMS and deploy them to any host you want. But if the basic site is down I will not have access to a vsphere web management interface or you vreplication.

So, how do you bring the replicated VMs online?

I've been using vRanger connection for replication of VMs and during replication to the host who is off site, they appear only as VMs and I turn on logging to the server directly using the vsphere client, as they just normally appear as VMS on that host. But this doesn't seem to be the case with the unit of replication vSphere.

Hoping someone enlighten us on that.

As vSphere replication is a feature of vSphere, its features are accessible at the vc level. So in order to perform a recovery through the user interface in the single vc use case you have vc and vr servers upward and running. If there is crushing of the CV so you can check out this http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2012/09/21/can-i-protect-my-vcenter-server-with-vsphere-replication/article. It is for the recovery of the CR but should work for all virtual machines
