Migration of profiles of win2k3 TS to view Win7

I searched a bit and found nothing about it... someone had experience of migration of Windows 2003R2 Server Terminal Services user profiles to Windows 7 using a configuration management Persona? I'm tempted to just run the tool migration profile against the documents and settings on the TS server folder, he did not want to waste my time if someone already knew it did not work, or knew a better way.

Then I ran the migration profile against the profiles tool, seems to have worked very well.

  • Cannot migrate my profile from XP to Windows 7

I want to migrate my Firefox profile (bookmarks, passwords, latest sites visited, installed extensions/applications settings etc.) of my Win XP 64 machine to my new Win 7 machine. Firefox is updated (34.0 5) on my XP 64 and Windows 7 machines (I manually installed the active apps/extensions on Win 7). However Firefox was originally installed on my XP machine (at least 6) years ago so what counts.

I have read and tried everything I can think of but * nothing * works.

On my XP machine, I have only the default profile (to run Firefox with the - P option). It is located in C:\Documents and Settings\TexasTim65\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1f2yd5bq.default

On my Win 7 machine, I find the default profile in C:\Users\TexasTim65\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bjy0sgis.default.

Try #1) I copied the folder 1f2yd5bq.default for Win 7. I run Firefox - P, but the profile manager sees only the default profile. So apparently, it cannot detect new profiles randomly added to the profiles folder. So that's a no-go.

Try #2) I open the folder bjy0sgis.default on Win 7. I delete everything in this folder. I can copy and paste into all kinds of 1f2yd5bq.default. I start Firefox and got nothing. No favorites, no sites are visited and I guess no password information or anything else. If this doesn't work for me either even if MANY people claim that this is what they had to do.

Try #3) using the Manager of profiles on Win 7, I added a new profile called hand. I just copied once again 1f2yd5bq.default in the new profile. I put in hand as default profile used (I know works because it uses different extensions/plugins) but of course I have nothing of my copied profile.

So I'm puzzled. Something is different about my setup which is not allowing me to move on in a simple way.

    TIA,

    Tim

P.S. is there something I can do to get Firefox to create EXACTLY the same name profile under Win 7 as I had in XP? I would have thought the same username would produce the same default profile, but apparently it does not.

"On my Win 7 machine, in the fact that I find the default profile

    C:\Users\TexasTim65\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bjy0sgis.default. "

There is another folder 'Profile' to C:\Users\TexasTim65\AppData\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bjy0sgis.default - without the \Local in the path. This is the folder you need to copy your old profile files in.

  • Cannot migrate the profile T-Bird

It seemed to be an easy thing to do but it's not. I put my old profile to the right place: users > appData > Fireaunt > roaming > Thunderbird > profiles

I have another profile there that was created when I started Thunderbird on my new computer. Then I went in the profiles.ini file and here is what I have and what I tried, none of this has worked:

    [General]
StartWithLastProfile = 1 <-tried this change to 0, no luck

    [Profile0]
    Name = default
IsRelative = 1 <-tried this change to 0, no luck
Path = Profiles / firea0n1.default <-this isn't the real profile name, I changed it here for safety
Default = 1 <-tried this change to 0, no luck

I tried almost all combinations of 0 and 1, no luck. Could you please tell me how this is done? It seems that the changes I do return to the original values, when I try to save them, even if I click on save before leaving. Also, I end up finding new profiles when I restart Thunderbird. I have tried to delete the new profile in the profiles folder, nothing helped. Thanks for any help you can give.

I think that we should give the full path to the program file. On this machine, that would be:

    "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla" PEI

That's why we often suggest that you copy an existing link and then modify it. Usually access mode safe, or as in this example, the Profile Manager.

Using Windows 7, view extended., Firefox 17.0.7

Firefox menus (file, editing, etc.) and user bookmark lists flicker in and out of visibility when you move the slider to a selection. This happens on the primary display only the second screen. It does not occur on regular product version (23, etc.) and does not occur on any other application.

We are required to use version 17 on internal business machines.

Bob Hello, that might be a problem with hardware acceleration - try updating your graphics driver, or in case this does not solve the problem, or there is no new version available at the time, disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > General.

  • View Win7 optimization Script Questions

I ran the Script to view optimization Win7 attached to the guide "VMware View 5 performance and best practices" and now want to change a few settings.  The problem is that I can't find where to make the change.  I want to deactivate the required screen saver lock and expire, but cannot very well the value of the register anywhere.  The specific lines are below:

    Reg ADD "hku\temp\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop" ScreenSaveTimeOut "600" /f /d /v
    Reg ADD "hku\temp\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop" ScreenSaverIsSecure d '1' f v

    I want the ScreenSaverIsSecure/d/d '1' ScreenSaverIsSecure value "0".

I tried to simply make the change and re - run the script but its users always needing to put in their passwords to unlock and locations in the reg ADD command does not exist in the registry.

We use heavy customers, so it became a nusiance for users.  Any ideas?

Sorry, the temp is part of the path is not available in the HKCU.   So your path would look like the one below

  • Migration Profiles Windows XP using MDT to Windows 7 Pro.

I run a migration to Windows XP Pro computers to Windows 7 Pro using the MDT deployment tool. The environment consists of two subdomains, one used for normal users [USER.company.org] and a high for HER [INFOSYS.company.org]. When you attempt to migrate users that were migrated using the credentials of INFOSYS on would be 100% locked out in AD. We determined is not a software, printers or the mappings that are at the origin of the lockout. The user would constantly be locked until the profile was successfully deleted. Then the user would connect, allowing the profile in Windows 7 to be re-created.

When we use the level USER account, migration, we will not experience this problem most of the time. Here's the process we run.

During the process, use us the MDT and USMT migration both profiles and build the new system. The whole process is done using a USB 3.0 drive.

1 tech logs on to the Windows XP-based computer by using the INFOSYS account.

2 tech makes their local administrator account USER.

    3. newspapers outside account INFOSYS tech and logs on to the USER account.

4 tech helping process the USMT to save profile on USB.

    5. once the backup of the USMT is completed, tech restarts computer on USB to begin the process of MDT and LTI.

    6. computer full format and the installation of Windows 7 Pro and any software checked during the LTI process.

7 once installation is complete, restart the computer Windows 7 and the migration of users from the old Windows XP profiles on the Windows 7 computer starts. Once complete, the computer restarts.

    8. at this point, the migration is complete.

Anyone can log on and use the computer at this point.

Currently, we are beginning to see the other AD lockout, no matter what account migrates. Yet once, only a reconstruction of full profile solves this problem.

Everyone knows about this problem during their migration? And if so, how do solve you this problem?

  • With VMware View can use persistent disks and roaming profiles together

Site already has XP roaming profiles configuration and are again VDI Win7 so new profiles (username.v2) will be created anyway. However, I want to continue to use roaming profiles, hosted on a server so that the data is replicated and backed up. (redundant solutions already in place) Initially while we configure persistent discs and the VDI will be not synchronize with the roaming profile on D:\   I confirmed that my roaming profiles work very well on a physical system running Win7, but problems with the VDI. I was wondering if I can get them in sync in the current configuration, or if I should scrap the drive persistent in a way that the data will be all stay and synchronize on roaming profile constantly even if I refresh or update my Golden VDI image?

    Hi, welcome in the community

If you want to use your existing installation of roaming profile, then the best option is do not use "persistent" disk configuration Redirect to drive persistent static and it brings the use of extra storage.

While commissioning a desk with persistent disk pool, view and changes the path of the user in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Profile profile list to the D drive.  This may conflict with your roaming profile configuration. To confirm that, in the physical machine, change string values "Default", 'Profile directory' and 'Public' in the list of profiles registry which refers to a new path.

    > If I should scrap the persistent drive in a way that the data will be all remain and synchronize with roaming profile constantly even if I refresh or update my Golden VDI image?

Yes, it could be a convenient option for you. Deploy pools dedicated without redirection of the user's data

  • Migration of data from Thunderbird problems

    Hello

I'm migrating to a new computer. I read the support pages that describe how to migrate a profile Thunderbird from one computer to the other. However, I'm having trouble. After that I copied my profile data to the new location, Thunderbird can see my account information (email address, the server settings, etc.), but it does not show the files and electronic mail that were in my old PC. I am sure that I saved the correct data. If anyone has encountered this before? Any ideas?

    Thank you
    Greg

Thanks for the suggestion Gnospen. It appeared that everything was there, but it is possible that something in my backup was corrupted. I copied everything from the computer source again, and it works now. I'm not sure what it was, but everything seems to be good now. Thanks again!

  • Profile of Thunderbird is only partially recognized

I have Thunderbird + Lightning in use on the operating systems Linux Mint and of Debian. Installation of Thunderbird Mint is used only for about six months after I switched to Debian as the main operating system. Debian installation encountered problems (unrelated to Thunderbird), and I had to return to mints. However, I was able to correctly migrate the profile.

Thunderbird shows the supplements and the basis of positioning preferences page, so that the profile is recognized. However, the user data (email accounts (and their mail), address books and calendar data), are all absent. The opening of Thunderbird, it starts asking me to create an e-mail account.

The version on Debian is 24.3.0. I believe that Thunderbird has been updated once or several times on Mint during the inactive period. His version is currently 31.3.0. FYI, all the add-ins were originally on the version of mint before the update to V31.3.0.

I made many attempts, following the standard instructions, replace the content of the profile with the old content (I used the procedure successfully to migrate from Windows to Debian Mint). These included attempts using the old existing profile and a previous backup copy. I even uninstalled Thunderbird, deleted the directory .thunderbird and started on (several times), re-installation of the repo of Mint.

I don't think to check Mint profile always worked before attempting replacement. However, after the failure, I rebooted the old profile of mint, and it does not work either. Since Thunderbird has been completely reinstalled, there is probably not a problem with corruption of software, and since several profiles previously failed, it seems unlikely that all profiles are bad. It almost looks like some incompatibility between Thunderbird V31.3.0 and profiles from previous version, but I didn't know all the present reports.

I've attached a screenshot of the error console. At least the first entry appears to refer only to a problem with the themes, and not with the content. Also, according to online information, I found this contained panacea.dat of the references to the old name of profile. Take this file off service has not solved the problem.

I will close the loop on this issue after discovering my own answer. The reason why the user data has not been recognised, it is that he wasn't there.

I was using a backup procedure that has checked the base directory, which includes the profile. To make sure that no files are currently in use, I ran Ark of another operating system. He seems to have backed up everything except the few files that contains the data of actual user (e-mail accounts, messages and calendar data). Without burrow in the profile, it was not obvious that these files were missing. I don't understand why these files were treated differently.

The lesson to take away is that this isn't a good way to save the profile, and it is useful to make your real critical files in the backup.

  • Need help with the migration of SAMBA 3.5.12 Windows AD domain to 2008R2

I'm working on migrating a 3.5.12 SAMBA domain of a domain of the Active Directory Windows 2008R2 running.  I did a test in my lab with an older version of SAMBA and windows 2003r2 and was able to use ADMT to transfer users and groups without problem.  Although I was not able to transfer the SID.  What problems will not transfer cause SID after I break the trust and users begin to work of the exclusively in the AD domain?  The error returned was ' could not verify auditing and TcpipClientSupport on domains.»  Will not be able to migrate the Sid. The system cannot find the specified file. »

Second question: what is the best way to migrate user profiles in this scenario?  I tested using the Easy Transfer Wizard and withdrawal from the old domain and join the new, but this takes time and seems that there is a better way to move these user profiles to point to the appropriate field without the many hours of data transfer.

    Thanks for input and assistance
