migration of VMware

Hello

I have a question of rapid migration of vmware.

We install a new server r420 dell poweredge at a customer site. It's
replacement of a dell poweredge r310 server running vmware 4.0. It is managed
VMware vcenter server at Headquarters.

If I do the new r420 managed by vcenter as well and make a host-to-host
migration, he will try to remove the virtual machines from the link to the head office
and then back down to the new server? With the virtual machines being about 200 GB I have
don't want that pass the link as his "only adsl speed.

Thank you

Daniel.

Welcome to the VMware forums communities.  The host will communicate directly with them to migrate the virtual computer.  You'll just want to make sure that the two hosts each other can ping the IP address or the host name by which they are registered in vCenter.

  • Migrate from VMware Guest Server that contains the database of VIC in the new VMware host

Hi, I inherited a system running ESX 3.0.1. The CIV is running on a stand-alone server, but the database resides on a guest on one of the VMware hosts. I need to move/migrate the vmware client to another server so I can use it. How can I migrate because if I try I'll lose the connection to the database?

I can not just to right and migrate because servers have different CPUs. I can first.

Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

do not convert.  This will leave the original intact. Once it comes online and has been validated, you can destroy the old.   In addition, do if offline.

    Hi Yousif,

Remember that data warehouses which welcomed these models? If you go to the data store, please

    1. Right click on the data store and choose Browse the data store.
    2. Look through the structure of directories for your models.
    3. When you find the folder corresponding to your model, find the file with the extension .vmtx.
    4. Right click on this file and select Add to the inventory.
  • Migration of VMWare ESXi4 to VMWare Server 2

I used VMWare ESXi4 for months, but it seems that my old server can not handle more.

So, I would migrate to the earlier version of VMWare, which is VMWare Server 2

There are many jobs that I created with ESXi.

I wonder if it can use with VMWare Server2, or I have to do some kind of cloning or the conversion similar to esxi server migration?

I'm sorry for my weak in English typo.

  • Migration from VmWare Workstation to a server solution

I am running 8 virtual machines of Windows XP inside VMWare Workstation on Windows 2008 (which I use as a workstation) in a box of Quad Core with 8 GB RAM.

My plan is to move the virtual machines of Windows XP on a separate server and possibly add a bit more to their number. I would also like to migrate the server functions of the current WIn2k8 box on that same server. These functions are the portion of light file, very lightweight SQL server and a few other minor services.

I am happy with VMWare Workstation and in particular the VMWare Tools application, because it makes the Windows XP virtual machines as reagent as if they were not VMs. It is important that after the migration, the virtual machines are as sensitive as they are now, given that I have would be to connect to them via ethernet to a Vista/Windows 7 machine by any means is the best (Office distance or something else).

I would like to know what solution I should opt for, I think that the options are either ESX/ESXi (what is the difference here?) - am I right that the best way to buy, as part of VMWare Server or VMware vSphere - 1.x on WIndows Server.

I have no requirements of availability/redundancy.

This means that ESX has a management console - what is a Linux kernel, you can perform operations as if you were on a Linux machine.

ESXi uses a very small SSH server and officially there is no way to interact with the machine on the console - everything is done by outside

They give the same ESX features no matter what version you use, just to manage that you need to do differently.

Of course ESX/ESXi works that on some hardware - there is a HCL and also a community supported the list machines that are capable of runnning ESXi, but are not supported by VMware.

VMware server - can run on practically a Windows y / OS Linux

    Good luck to you ventures!

  • Investigation to migrate from VMware

    Hello

I introduce myself, I am system administrator in a town hall in France and speak directly, I understand very little English

I run a Windows and now 4 ESX version 3.5 with a VitualCenter servers environment

This is my first post on your forum

    I have several questions

I have a version of VMware ESX 3.5 with 4 servers ESX and vCenter server

    Question 1)

You have to migrate to 3.5 Update04 rather than migrate to 4.0 (vSphere) is that the update is included in the maintenance of VMware?

    Question 2)

Having no resources available in France for the migration to 4.0 (vSphere), it is difficult to do? How to upgrade my license?

Is there a particular method to apply?

    Question 3)

If I just update my esx version 3.5 servers Update04 is possible to do it in stages? As a first step to update my VirtualCenter and continue to use my esx normally and then update my esx servers a few days later?

We have obligations of production and it is difficult to do everything in one operation

    Thanks in advance

Oops. . misread responded on the upgrade process. . do not license. .. Sorry

  • Migration of VMware Server 2-> ESXi

I agree that it is probably a FAQ - if it is, a big boost for the right page would be very helpful and appreciated. My google-fu is weak today.

(At this time), I have a server to use for virtualization. He is currently running Win2k3 x 64 and VMware Server 2.0.

After checking the assorted HCLs, I came to the realization that this thing will probably be ESXi which, as far as I know, will that make life easier and provide more resources to my VM customers. But before you start, I need clarification on a single piece: my clients VMware Server 2 must be migrated in some way?

I can quite easily copy their directories on a Windows file server before the upgrade.

    After the upgrade, if:

    1. I can copy them on the ESXi Server? "Speak" windows network? Or do I I intend using a USB stick or something similar

    2. How to migrate or convert the VMware Server 2 offline customers to ESXi 3?

Are there some best practices guides that would help?

    Kind regards

    Chris

Yes. But with a limitation - ESX (i) does not support IDE HDDS in VM.

  • Migration from VMware to USB RAID array

Current configuration: HP N54L Microserver, P410 RAID card, 3 partitions, each 1 VMware datastore.

VMware runs from a USB, installed from VMware-ESXi-5.5.0-1331820-HP-5.72.27-Feb2014.iso.

Datastore1 contains virtual machines.  Datastore3 contains a data reader to one of the virtual machines.  Datastore2 is not used.

Can I install VMware for a current HP specific image to the partition currently containing Datastore2 without losing my VMs on 1 and 3 data warehouses?

    Thank you!

Oh now I understand! Logical drives separate are separate as readers for ESXi (and any other OS). So if you take the right one for ESXi, the last two must remain intact.

I did this once (two logical drives on raid-controller) simple installation and did not know what is happening, so I backed up all virtual machines off site. But only the logical drive that I picked up for ESXi installation has been re-partitioned.

  • Migration of VMware player for ESXi strike SCSi problem

    Hello

I'm just a newbee with VMware.

First, I installed Centos 6.2 on VMware Player.

Then I download the Virtual Machine on Esxi5 U1 directory using the VMware client. (not the converter)

Then I tried to use the VHD with creating new virtual machine on ESXi.

But I got an error with scsi controller when I turn on the machine verual. (i.e. apparently guest OS cannot handle the controller scsi.)

I tried all types of (e.g., LS logical parallel) scsi controller in the choice, but all are omitted.

Is there someone like a solution for this problem.

  • Migrate to VMware View 4.6

    Hello

What are the exact differences between VMware View 4.6 and 4.5.

What operating system supports VMware View 4.6?

Do we get the best performance with VMware View 4.6 on WAN?

Note that 4172 between the connection to the server and security server is not necessary. The correct rules are here - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view-46-architecture-planning.pdf - there is an entire section detailing "for servers security DMZ Firewall rules. See also http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-14974 for the three steps needed to implement.

Also note that https is the default value for the configuration of the Security server for interaction with the normal client and the secure tunnel (https).

    Select this option.

  • Migrate license VMWare Fusion of my old imac to my new imac

I bought a new iMac and want to move to VMware Fusion of my old iMac to my new iMac.  How can I do this?  I don't want to uninstall it from my old mac until it works on the new as my vm in constant use.  I tried to download and install VMware Fusion on the new Mac and using the existing series, but it won't, which does not at all surprise me, but I thought it was worth the try. Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

    Wayne

Are you copy and paste the serial number or are manually type you it?  I'd be copying and pasting to avoid typos.

Also you can install Fusion without enter the serial number and then restart the Mac and perform the merge and try to enter the serial number.  Sometimes restart make a difference by taking the serial number.

  • PC VMware fusion migration agent: can I migrate to an external drive

I'm evaluating merger 7 and try to migrate existing PC. Is there a way I can create a vmware file which I can move in a HARD drive rather than perform the migration on the network?

ravi123201110141 wrote: he talks about the installation and use of "Vmware fusion migration Agent" to perform the migration. Is this different from "VMWare VCenter converter"

While the two results in a P2V and share some code/software between then, however, they are different products.  The Agent of Migration of VMware Fusion is a limited subset of what VMware vCenter Converter Standalone is able to do.  You said in your OP ""is there a way I can create a vmware file that I can move in a HARD drive rather than perform the migration on the network?". VMware vCenter Converter Standalone is the way to go if that's what you want to do.  Personally I would never, under any circumstances use the Agent of Migration of VMware Fusion and instead use other disk imaging software then manually create a Virtual Machine VMware vCenter Converter Standalone is the way to go otherwise.

I have 4 knots of virtual iron, I want to migrate to ESXi 4 then if things are stable at 4 ESX.  I'll be go 1 nodes at a time.  The nodes are connected to a SAN that is comprehensive enough fiber.  My question is:

-is there a roadmap for the migration of Vmware Virtual Iron?

-I'll be able to use SAN space that's already there?

you have a server ESX (i) online? You can get the guests of Virtual Iron environment using VMware vCenter Converter vSphere4
