Migration to exadata - DB_BLOCK_SIZE
HelloWe plan to move our DWH, 5 tera 11 GR 2 database running on a Linux machine rac exadata 1/4.
We are running with 32 K block size.
Our statements must use FTS, and index number is low.
We want to get your advice if we stay with the size of 32K block on the exadata machine or install on exadata database machine with 8K block size.
Thank you
If you are able (have the time and resources available), test the 8 KB and 32 KB would be the best thing.
I've never tested (all my clients use 8 KB blocksize), but I'd be surprised if 32 KB would make much difference in performance.
So if you have the opportunity, I would stick with 8 KB on exadata.

1. If I do a simple RMAN backup restore then ideally it should work because from the point of view of DB, it is all the same. Question - iswhat is happening at the tables of the OHCC? will they both as - is, and then I need to decompress and make them usable?
2. what import-using data pump export? How it works with no EHCC on target?

4. can I use transportable tablespace for cases where the endians are different? or transportable database when the endians are the same?
I don't understand this data Guard configuration could be one of the option as exadata supports have DR running on environmental non-exadata but DataGuard cannot be a good option for each unique data base.
I called "considerations to instantiate or duplicating a database on Exadata (Doc ID 1206603.1)", for what it looks like to-we use double RMAN as well.

Hi AEK.
Thanks for the details on your environment - it's much more useful than a single sentence 'How to migrate my Exadata' type question. To answer your specific questions
1. If I do a simple RMAN backup restore then ideally it should work because from the point of view of DB, it is all the same. Question is - what happens to the tables of the OHCC? will they both as - is, and then I need to decompress and make them usable?
Exactly: you must do an ALTER TABLE MOVE to read materials after the migration of tables
2. what import-using data pump export? How it works with no EHCC on target?
I have not tested it myself, but I would expect the initial table creation to fail because of the clause 'COMPRESS for', but you could previously create the table without compression HCC or potentially even a transformation in the data pump configuration.
3 what user depending on backup restores? (backup to warm cold/backup)
Even with regard to the RMAN: you get an HCC-compressed object, you can read without a TABLE ALTER MOVE.
4. can I use transportable tablespace for cases where the endians are different? or transportable database when the endians are the same?
Yes you can use the endians, transportable tablespaces across but it requires a process of file conversion, and it's quite tedious. This conversion is not required when the endians are the same. And if conversion to Exadta Linux to Linux x 86 no-Exadata, you should not need to convert.
5. I referred to as "Considerations to instantiate or duplicating a database on Exadata (Doc ID 1206603.1)", that it seems like--we can use RMAN copies as well.
Well Yes, duplicate RMAN should you get the same results as if you were doing a separate backup and restore, wihtout should save the backup somewhere.
And finally, if you need compression you get with HCC, you can consider buying storage Oracle ZFS or plunder, which includes the support of the Supreme Constitutional Court without Exadata.

What methods recommends:
-Export (with options) to go and import (options).?
-Cold backup data files, copy on Exadata server and create the control file?
-Any other new method?

Need advice, AIX 7 to Exadata Linux ASM - major DBMS systems migration
We use databases 11.2.0.3 and 11.2.04 on AIX 7.1 using AIX file systems. We have some databases of 2 TB and others much more small. Production of about 50 and 200 databases off-production. We are migrating to Exadata 4 with Linux. What is your opinion on the migration method that should be used. We can take some time from power failure to do so.
Hello
There is a possible way;
(1) unidirectional replication Golden Gate
(2) import and export-
(3) cross-platform Transportable Tablespace - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmxplat.htm#BRADV05432

Exadata database on solaris Server
Is running on the DB Exadata server is Solaris is big endian or little endian? This answer needs to pronounce on the conversion required when migrating to exadata endian.
Hi Tycho,
I n ' think there a solaris exadata. they want just to know if he gets one if it can migrate direct big-endian to big-endian. Unfortunately "endianness" is a chip architecture proerly and not the operating system where the chips intel x 86 were always little endian unlike any tokens of risc architecture.
I think that the only big endian chips from intel were probably xscale, Intel i860 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia i860 and i960 itaniums.
See Endianness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for goodness more endian

Hello
We recently had a data center move and moved some exadata machines to a new location.
There are a few things to consider before the move is going;
(1) prepare the network on the new data center and make sure all connectivity (for example, you can remote access to it) work. In our case, the new centre has same network IPs.
(2) download the seller who transported material Machines.
(3) on the last day before moving, stop the Exadata Machine (close the database, RAC nodes db stop, knots of cell, endless tape etc...)
(4) turn off the Exadata Machine
(5) disconnect all network cables.
(6) let the equipment cool.
(7) transportation to the new location and move the machine to fix the Bay and wait for the machines to be acclimated
(8) connect the network cables.
(9) power on Exadata.
I found a Support which also notes, you can view; What must be done when moving Cluster nodes to a new data center (Doc ID 1332423.1)

Migration + database upgrade of 9.2 on solaris to 11R2 on Exadata
Hello
I need to migrate a database 9.2 on Solaris Machine on storage of EXADATA (RAC + ASM) 11R2 file system and database size is 2 t
I see several methods, but I can't find that 2 methods:
-Insert into select
-TTS + cross-platform (TTS it is not supported for 9.2)
It's okay? Can I use other methods?
Thank you
Best regards
The rule here is always use the version lower exports aka in your case, you must use the export source 9.2 to create the dump.
To import into you can use import 11g.
For more details, see docs MOS: compatibility matrix for export and import between different Oracle Versions Doc ID 132904.1

One of our architects of data consulted some Oracle resources and asserts what follows as a migration route valid for our existing platform to Exadata DB Machine and I just wanted to know if its real/valid:
1. turn of Exadata via a parameter (as a parameter database, except for a parameter of the exadata software?) such that it behaves like a software JBOD and not 11.2 Exadata giving grid discs (I guess).
2. install and configure no Oracle 11.1.0.7 RAC on Exadata DB nodes using storage for the ASM of JBOD (cripple Exadata cells)
3. migrate our databases more in this new database on the paralyzed Exadata DB Machine
4 go to 11.2 RAC
5. turn on Exadata via the parameter
I could be off on the accuracy of the wording of the steps, I'm paraphrasing and he doesn't have to remember the exact details, but above is the idea of high level. If you have corrections (assuming it is correct / valid) Please correct as I am more interested in this as a method.
Thank you.Not valid at all. You must run DB 11.2 on Exadata, no way around that.
We wrote a whole book on migration to the database machine. I would say from here:
http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/xmigration-11-133466.PDFI also suggest upgrading to 11.2 as a separate activity so allow your environment and the timeline. In this way, you can separate the problems Exadata 11.2 related instead to bite them both at the same time.

Hi Experts,
We are trying to install EBS 12.2.4 on 2 shared node APPL_TOP & single DB node. The default DB is 11.2.0.3, we expect the upgrade to 12.1.0.2
After upgrading DB to 12 c, we have a plan to convert this node 2 CARS & migrate the db to Exadata machines.
Could you please help us know the Metalink migration of 12 c to exadata & 12cRAC with 12,2 EBS on Exadata.
If possible please let me know your suggestion to achieve this.
Thanks in advance.

Will begin to dba Setup on exadata machine. Need guideance/information
Hi, the company I worked for more than 10 years finally decided to buy an exadata machine.
Can someone tell me where I can start building databases oracle exadata machine?
Thanks in advance.
Hello user301176,
Don't you _have_ to change anything as the index, compression, partitions etc.? No, you don't have to, but it can also prevent you from maximizing the benefit of the Exadata features like hybrid columnar compression. As changes such as indexing, partitioning and compression generally involve the movement of data in any case, migration of platform (where you are already running all data) can be the perfect opportunity to make these types of changes with a minimum load.

1. modify the code to include ORDER BY (is that an application packaged or home grown? If the first case, have you contacted the seller?)
2 stay on 9.2.0.8 and do not update to 10 g +.
