migration wizard creates 30 + accounts on new MacBook

If my girlfriend will attempt to transfer files from his old MacBook to a new MacBook Pro 2016 and the migration of expenses assistant profiles with strange as anti-school names created, etc... This really freaked out because she feared a virus had been transferred (his old MacBook was being very slow and that she would get pop up ads by going to shopping sites previously). We thought that it may just be old profiles of before, it has the MacBook, but there isn't so well we contest it. Anyone had the same experience or can provide information?

Download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information.

  • migration wizard to set up the new mac

Did a time machine at the top on an old mac and want to transfer only files in my documents folder, but not the Apps on a new machine. Two use of machines, OS ElCapitan which of the three options I have need to select Migration Wizard to minimize transfer "garbage."

    Happy Friday, nigeln!

I understand you want to be specific about the contents of transfer when migrating from an older Mac to a newer Mac. You are in the right place for help.

You will need to select the top option during migration: a Mac, Time Machine backup or startup disk. Then, follow the prompts to specify the data you want to transfer.

In your case, it seems that you can uncheck the box for the Applications folder. Contents of the folder user migrate then, which includes your Documents folder. If you want to be even more precise, click the arrow next to the user account. This will give you access to the drop-down list, where you can select the user account that you want to migrate files.

  • I've just migrated from an old to a new MacBook Pro. CS5 has transferred OK but I can't open any of the applications except Acrobat. What can I do?

I suspect this may have something to do with the license but InDesign accepted my license OK code. Then gave me error 5! I would be really grateful for any advice.

Migration does not work with Adobe applications. Uninstall and reinstall

  • migration of events imovie to new Mac without using the Migration Wizard

    Hello

I want to do the following:

Migrate from iMovie events of an old MacBook Pro (10.6.8 Snow Leopard) created using iMovie ' 08

    TO

(Yosemite 10.10.5) iMac with iMovie 10.1.1

All events are stored on 3 external drives (Nothing on the internal drive of MBP). Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

The destination is another external drive, with Thunderbolt interface. I copied the serious events in 3 separate directories, but not tried opening them with iMovie. Wasn't sure if there was data stored elsewhere (in ~/Library for example) that might be needed; In addition, I didn't know if I could manually merge the 3 separate records events iMovie with the Finder, or need to do somehow with iMovie.

I manually moved everything some time ago - I haven't used Wizard migration; I didn't have enough disk space attached to the iMac when I moved everything, so I carried on using iMovie on the old MBP.

I googled and read several articles on the events to an external drive / to new Mac, but none of them totally covers my starting position and desired end result.

Would appreciate any insight how to go on this issue, and how and where exactly iMovie keeps all the data you need.

    The articles are (among others):

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT202853 "update of projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014).

http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/#mov3ac6d42c "copy or move a video in your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/kb/PH2302 "iMovie 11: copy or move video from your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT203049 "move your iMovie for Mac library (2014).

If your iMovie ' 08 projects contain media from outside the record of events (for example, from iPhoto or iTunes) then we must first using iMovie ' 08 on your old computer to "consolidate" your support so that everything is copied in the events folder.  Details for the iMovie 11 version can be found at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9

I don't have the ' 08 version help files, but I think it will be the same - you can check with your old Mac.

"Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

FireWire adapters Thunderbolt are available for about € 30, which would use these drives on your new Mac.

In fact, you can copy the project files and events with the viewfinder of an old external drive to the root level of the new new external drive (which should be Apple - formatted), but it is probably best to do from in iMovie ' 08, as described in the help of Apple.   Do 'copy' and not 'move' - this way you always have a backup of the original on the old disks in case of problems.

I would like to convert the project files and the events of each of the 3 discs one at a time, creating 3 libraries separate iMovie 10.1.1.  You can always rearrange these in iMovie 10 after you have everything updated and verified.  Some people have reported the update of blocking process at any given time, so update in small batches of events and projects is much better than trying to do everything at the same time.

In fact I would try to first simply copy one (or a small group) project and its events associated with the new external with iMovie ' 08 HD then update to ensure that it will work - from iMovie ' 08 for iMovie 10.1.1 is a big jump.

    Good luck!

    Geoff.

  • How can I manually transfer files/email to new macbook pro accounts

I have the new macbook pro retina 13 "and do a clean install from a 2011 macbook pro.  I did basically except accounts e-mail and files.  The two machines are the latest el capitan 10.11.2 worm - two machines have the same version of Mail worm 9.2 (3112).

I use POP mail - not IMAP - do not use the cloud.  I know the advantages and disadvantages, but it is like that.  I have 5 different email accounts with the files and associated files.

I have tried to copy the mail and download e-mail to the library files in the same folder on the new computer.  During the opening of the mail on the new computer, he insists on setting up the new account.  I tried to configure an e-mail account.  THEN again by replacing new files in the folder library/mail with the mail from the old computer folder - once, does not work.  I also copied file library/container/apple.com.mail - and all other files related mail can be found in the mail folder.  Once again successfully.

Yes have you tried importing mail, but this does NOT bring in my records or accounts.

Any ideas before I wipe the drive and do a migration from scratch - lose the clean installation process.

    Thank you

The best option is to use the Migration Wizard to transfer your accounts and your files. This will prevent the corruption of the library, which can cause several other problems. And it will not 'eliminate the clean installation state.'

  • Old MacBook Pro of the migration to a new MacBook Pro taking of ages

HHave followed instructions with the Migration Wizard using lead Thunderbolt, but must

hhours and for the last 5 hours as indicated on a minute remaining - impossible

do something else on a MacBook in this State

This happened to me a while back and I didn't close the new computer and when I turned it on my old profile was there.

I would only if you know for SURE that you have ALL of your saved information. I wouldn't tell you to do something and then you lose data because the migration does not properly perform. In my case, the migration is complete, but it got stuck on the same screen that you see. He said he had a minute left, but it was really over. If you do not have a backup, you can just wait out a bit longer AppleCare or contact for the best solution. New computers come with 90 days of telephone support, 3 years if you have AppleCare.

Note that if you have activated the automatic login, your new MacBook Pro can log on an empty account. Simply log out of the account and see if you old account appears.

    Good luck

  • Why can't I receive emails in Thunderbird on my new Macbook Pro, but can send OK? All the account in Mozilla Thunderbird's settings are correct.

I created an account in Mail, which now works, and Mozilla Thunderbird. The settings are correct, but Tbird doesn't e-mail, even if it sends OK. I run iMac, MacBook and just bought MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.2. All other computers work fine. I want to rule out all other computers and to use my new, but at this rate I can't move as I had hoped. I like Thunderbird and want to continue using it.

I spent hours with Apple chats a whole bunch of questions and especially to fix them, but this one. I searched online conversations, support Mozilla, but have found no answer. I hope someone can help without using the technical language.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi - I would value some experience of the community - please

I have a MacAir 2011 and want to update now for a new MacBook.

I've not being updated earlier too concerned about the possible loss & migration setting, applications or features etc after the update.

Can someone with experience anything that I need to be aware share?

    As...

1 / the Migration Wizard transfers all? -such as the computer name and all settings, configurations, power setting, passwords etc. & Apps?

(for example - after migration - my new macbook would be "exact" copy and behave exactly like my old mac - (all keyboard shortcuts / icons / tool bars etc - everything is the place I want))

2 / What about applications such as Onedrive / Office365 / Dropbox - they won't work (i.e. I will have sync problems - with duplicated computer)

3 / What about APPS - where they are allowed - as Abobe / MSOffice etc - are these transfer & all work - how s/w license does it move? (or is the migration take care of that - and delete old laptop)

I look forward to any advice,

  • Migration without CD: old Macbook Pro for the new Macbook Pro

I'm about to buy a new MacBook Pro and have AA Xl Pro on my 'old' Macbook but no CD and can't find my purchase info.  Yikes!  How can I do this? Thank you...

You are allowed to have two machines with facilities enabled, then you can leave the original as a backup if you wish.  You don't want to think about the migration/transfer anything between machines for Adobe products... they must be installed using installation files.  You can download the files at the link below.

    Acrobat XI, X - http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html

You will need your serial number.  If you have registered the software when you initially installed then you might find that available in your account Adobe online.

  • Just migrated to the new MacBook Pro and plugged an external drive with VM - has made "move" or "copy"?

    Hi-

I just used Migration Assistant to transfer my account (including Fusion) of my old MBP to my new MBP. My VIsta 64 - bit VM Fusion is and resides on an external HARD drive. so, after the migration successful (apparently) I connected the external drive to the new machine and (ii) grown up merge.  Fusion has seen the virtual machine, I selected to motorise the. Merge request now:

Did you move this virtual machine, or you copied it?

It seems to me that I did, nor as the volume disk external DRIVE containing the Vista VM was not mounted at the time of migration (in fact, the drive has been disconnected). I copied the platform, including the Fusion, from one physical machine to another.

I know this is probably an easy answer, but I don't want to blow up this very important step in getting my new machine, running and functional.  ?:|

    Help!

    Instant wrote:

Thus, it is "moved", even if no bit VM have been transferred or altered in any way and the virtual machine remains resident in the same volume on the external hard drive?

Yes, it's "I moved it" in order to maintain the same UUID and MAC address, which should keep the machine virtual Windows FRO Windows Product Activation trigger.

    Now to the other...

As I pointed out in the original post, and you noted in your response, I transferred Fusion to the new machine (for the internal HARD disk) via the Migration Wizard. What should I do now? Uninstalling merge on the new machine, and then download and reinstall? (I'm on v2.04; I guess I would upgrade comes in support of w/SL v2.05...) ? Or NOT uninstall but rather update to v2.05 (easier)?

I run the uninstall and then install Fusion 2.0.5. (Note: Fusion 2.x is not a dynamic update)  Uninstalling/reinstalling also Fusion will not delete your Virtual Machines.
