Migration wizard issues

Hey all,.

I have an old MacBook Pro (2008) that is running OS 10.10.5. Recently bought a new MacBook Pro, which of course turns 10.11.5. You wanted to use the Migration Wizard to move data from my old computer to the new. Here is what happened:

Brought back by mistake a USB-to-ethernet adapter to use with the new computer. Did not work as it does not see the network. Thinking that I had all weekend, I thought that I would let turn via wi - fi. Got two computers to connect through the Migration Wizard and let the process go. After about an hour, I noticed that it would take 15 hours to transfer everything I wanted to transfer. I saw then that I needed to love at first sight to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter for the new mac and it should take much less time with a wired connected in this way. Ran and got the adapter and when I got home, I stopped in Migration Wizard.

Now when I try to connect both computers again, I'm stuck and not in the sense that one might think. The old computer does not see the new computer at all to connect. The computer sees the old thin computer, but no matter what I do (connect directly using a crossover cable and a regular ethernet cable, or just plug them both on the same network).

What should I do to get the old computer to see a new? It must have something to do with the abandonment of the process because we were connected for a while. I even restarted the new macbook from scratch and it still not connect.

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

If you try to migrate directly from the old Mac and migration has not been successful, save the old Mac with Time Machine or disk utility and try to migrate from the backup.

I tried to upgrade Yosemite to El Capitan, but failed. If the local bank staff did a clean install for me. Prior to this, internal hard drive for my Mac has been saved using Time Machine, on an encrypted external hard drive. However, Time Machine is unable to restore a back ups (shows the chronology of the previous backups, but the restore button is gray). I tried to use the Migration Wizard, but he quit unexpectedly. In the process, I was prompted to create a new user account, but I'm not in / Users /.

However, backups are visible in the directory of the external hd (My passport) structure. However, only some, not all directories are available. For example, I was able to copy Documents mailed to the internal hd hd, but Google Drive are not available. More detail in the attachments.

  • Migration wizard does not

I try to use MY to transfer the data from my old computer (iMac 2010) to my new (iMac 2013). The two iMacs have OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5. The issue I encountered is that the computer that I'm transferring is find my old computer and produce code, while the old computer continues to say that he "seeks other computers." I checked my firewall and it is turned off, I checked my sharing preferences and they are fine. However, I use only WiFi that I don't have an Ethernet cable, Firewire, or Thunderbolt. Is - this required that I have one of these cables to do this, or I can use a Wi - Fi connection? Any help that can be provided is appreciated.

Firstly when Migration Wizard NEVER EVER use a Wi - Fi connection, it is incredibly slow and unreliable. The smartest and easiest method is to connect the backup HD Time Machine from the old computer to the new computer via a USB cable. Then launch MY and follow the prompts on the screen. It's really that simple, you make it MUCH more complex than necessary.

  • Mail of the Mac Mini, iMac with the migration wizard

I have a mac mini (2014 - El Capitan) that I have used for some time now and I have many mailboxes (30 +) with many stored messages (100s maybe 1000s).

I recently picked up a 2011 27 iMac which is running OS X Sierra Final Release Candidate due to vision problems.

Both units are working well but I would like to transfer my boxes to the letters, messages, and the account settings from the Mac Mini to the iMac using Migration Assistant to take advantage of the larger screen.

Am I able to select only the data for e-mail (boxes letters, messages and settings) to transfer somewhere in the Migration Wizard interface or will it just to start the transfer of all?

I use iCloud for note, calendars and contacts, but prefer not to use for e-mail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    WN

The simplest option would be to use Time Machine to restore your data.

    Other Options:

You can export the folders you want to transfer the mini using export of Mail under mailbox function in the Menu bar > export a mailbox... Drag to the folder on the desktop on the new iMac and import in Mail. File > import boxes mailbox...

You can also use a third-party application, Emailchemy to export your Mail on the mini and pull only the folders you want and import. If you have many files, it would be a faster option.

Otherwise, you could drag on the whole Mail > V3 folder let Sierra update data. This assumes that you have already started using Mail to Sierra.

You don't have to use iCloud email to use Apple Mail. I strongly suggest that you use IMAP to service what ever you choose to use.  Comcast, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail (other)

  • Where is the Migration Wizard?

I have three MacBook Pro. My most old, 5-6 years, repeated that she was seriously infected by a virus. I erased it. Now, I restart and OS X Utilities push the info, with four options: restore of backup Time Machine, reinstall OS X, Get help online or disk utility. I time Machine using my current Mac brand new, but I can't restore the old Mac directly by using the new Time Machine copies. It tells me to use the Migration Wizard. Where is he? I have yet a third Mac, a few years more recent than this one, that I can restore from reformatted. Is Time Machine restore possible? How can I find Migration Wizard with these four options on the screen? Thank you.

  • Can I get the contacts and email from an old record without using the Migration Wizard?

Can I recover Contacts and messaging of an old record without using the Migration Wizard? Disc of the user in question has been very corrupted with several programs having a weird behavior. Migration wizard migrated corrupt files, so, even a clean install with only migrated users gave rise to an unusable installation.

I have now all own installed now, but need old email files and contacts. How can I transfer this information a copy of the old/bad drive and only this info?

Yes. With the old drive mounted and available, open Mail and choose import mailboxes... from the file menu of mail. In the dialog box import data from , choose Apple Mail.

Navigate to the Mail folder to the user of the old library drive. According to the version of courier used, you might see folders named V2 and / or V3. Choose the applicable folder, and then click Choose.

  • Time Machine backup migration wizard

    Hello

I have a MBP (2012 model) running OSX 10.11.6. The hard drive has encountered an error that I couldn't get (invalid node structure). After spending the better part of a day of troubleshooting, I finally erased the drive and reinstall the OS from the OSX Internet Recovery Mode option. After that I reinstalled OSX version accompanying (Mavericks), I was going to transfer all my files from my USB external time Machine drive. I checked using the Migration Wizard, and I had the opportunity to transfer any of the player. Instead, I thought I'd be better to first upgrade to el capitan (it was on 10.11.6 when it stopped working) and install the programs I use (MS Office) before the transfer, so I went through this process. Now when I try to restore the files using Migration Assistant in el Capitan, he can't seem to find the USB Time Machine backup drive - it retains just turn on "the search for Source...". "on the transfer to this Mac screen information. If I leave the Migration Wizard, the USB key is accessible in the Finder. Don't know what to do at this point, but I really need these files (years of family photos are my biggest concern about losing).

    Thank you

    Mike Camden

OK - I've solved it. For some reason, it wouldn't find the backup disk, Time Machine in the Migration Wizard, when I plugged directly on the port of USB of MBP (although he appeared and is accessible from the Finder); However, on a whim, I plugged into the USB port on my Airport Extreme, connected my MBP to it as a shared resource on the network and is running Migration Wizard again. Migration assistant immediately found and was able to make the Time Machine restore - it took much longer overall than network he would like a USB drive, but I let it run all night, and everything was finished this morning.

  • Why to have latest version of applications was replaced by the earlier version after Migration Wizard

I recently bought a new iMac running the Version OS X El Capitan entered 10.11.5 pre loaded with the latest Numbers, Keynote, iMovie, GarageBand etc applications.  Unfortunately after you run the Migration Wizard from a backup Time Machine to migrate the data from my previous iMac, apps like iMovie and GarageBand have returned back to older versions.  Please can someone tell me how I can get the latest versions that have been initially installed without having to pay for download on the App Store.  Thank you.

Have you checked the App Store for updates? If you go to the App Store purchases tab, apps appear there? If so, try to download them again.

  • The Migration Wizard transfers the data of other users?

My wife and I share a Mac as different "users." If I use the Migration Assistant to transfer data to my new Macbook Pro, it also transfers all of its side (documents, music, etc.)?

I heard that Migration Wizard allows you to do this. I found it very complicated to set up and easy to make a mistake. Because I'm on several Macs that regularly require copies exact bootable I paid for and have used Carbon Copy Cloner from Mike Bombich https://bombich.com/

Although the CCC4 ~ $40,-(il est compatible avec El Capitan) you can download a free 30 day trial. It is so easy to install and make a clone. I never had a hick-up using many times. There is a developer good reputation well known, you can contact at any time.

  • iMac frozen by using the migration wizard

Hi, I tried to use the Migration Wizard to transfer my settings my iMac to a MacBook Pro new etc.  The transfer failed, and now my iMac froze with transferring your screen information, suggesting it will update your system settings.  On that note, it has been frozen for several hours.  I tried to force quit but it sounds right.  I also tried turning it off, but when I turn on the power, even once, it returns the same screen.

    Anyone have any suggestions. ?

By 'frozen' do you mean that you cannot move the cursor?

If two Macs are connected wireless, it can take several hours, even days, finish the Migration Wizard. If you can't wait that long, you can force the Mac does not close in holding the power button down for several seconds. Then, connect the Mac to another using Ethernet cables and if necessary appropriate adapters and start the migration. You can connect to each other directly, or through a router. A wired connection to avoid the vagaries of wireless communication.

  • migration wizard to set up the new mac

Did a time machine at the top on an old mac and want to transfer only files in my documents folder, but not the Apps on a new machine. Two use of machines, OS ElCapitan which of the three options I have need to select Migration Wizard to minimize transfer "garbage."

    Happy Friday, nigeln!

I understand you want to be specific about the contents of transfer when migrating from an older Mac to a newer Mac. You are in the right place for help.

You will need to select the top option during migration: a Mac, Time Machine backup or startup disk. Then, follow the prompts to specify the data you want to transfer.

In your case, it seems that you can uncheck the box for the Applications folder. Contents of the folder user migrate then, which includes your Documents folder. If you want to be even more precise, click the arrow next to the user account. This will give you access to the drop-down list, where you can select the user account that you want to migrate files.

Where can I find the download more updated of the Windows Migration Wizard?

  • Migration wizard - Time Machine on Windows sharing

    Hello guys,.

I made a backup of my MacBook (Yosemite) via the time machine on a windows share ("smb://asus/TimemachineMacbook"). Inside the action, there is my folder (respectively image) "TimeMachine.sparsebundle". Everything went successfully.

I made a clear installation with El Capitan. Now I want to restore my music, photos and so on...

I am able to open the smb share and mount the 'TimeMachine.sparsebundle '. I see the backup, all files are there.

But I am not able to access this sparsebundle with the Migration Wizard. Inside the wizard, I can add an smb with the correct credentials share, but it shows me nothing to select. Just an empty list.

I also tried with afp... I installed "Acronis access Connect" on my windows computer and created an afp share "smb://asus/TimemachineMacbook". I can access with the finder. in the migration wizard, it shows me the afp share automatically (I must not add), when I select and press 'next', nothing happens...

Does anyone have a solution how to use the wizard migration with my sparsebundle on a windows machine?

    Concerning

    I did it!

Sharing should be mounted, for example: /Volumes/TimeMachine.sparsebundle

    And finally in the terminal:

    sudo hdiutil attach /Volumes/TimeMachine.sparsebundle
