  You don't have to do anything.  When you open your iPhoto library with the new photo app that the existing library is migrated to a new library of Photos.  However, as with any operation should have a current backup before proceeding.

  I have a similar problem as well. Some of my m4v files appear as a blank page with a folded corner icon. They will not play in anything other than VLC player.   I am currently working on a music video, and I'm trying to test - Watch clips from 'My media' to make sure they are what I want before putting them in the timeline at the bottom of the screen. The problem is that these clips are not displayed on the right side of the screen more. When I first load iMovie, they do, but then after that I look at some of my video in the timeline panel, right screen seems to be stuck on this and will play not the clips of "My Media", although I can hear the audio. I suggest you open iMovie, hold down the command and option keys and the removal of preferences in the window that opens.
