  Photoshop was made (there for many years), a publisher of pixel as such destructive in terms of basic functionality. Later they added features that make it possible to work non-destructively (most importantly the layers of adjustment and smart objects).

But the real advantage with 'non-destructive' is that you can go back and readjust even once the file is saved and closed. So, I prefer to call re-editable or reversible, or something in that sense.

  The upgrade to Windows XP?

  Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

  Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

  I have a Compaq Presario V3019 with Windows XP. I made a "non-destructive" system recovery using the F11 key after plugging on. The restoration of the partition went well and then I completed the Windows set up / configuration of sequence (language, time zone, user account names, etc.).  But now I don't see any of my files under My Documents (I had several subfolders and files here)!

  Moreover, in the last step of installing windows when you are prompted to create accounts of users (not knowing any better) I used the same name as before for my account (except the first letter was lower, not higher, case). Would using the same name that before (it's case sensitive?) cause an excessive writing of the original My Documents folder? Is there a way to get the old folder (with all subfolders and files) back? Help, please.

  OMG! I FOUND MY MISSING FILES!  Over 30GB, collected over 10 years (pictures, tax returns, e-mail archives, everything...)!  THANK YOU, Adam! I followed your suggestion above and voila! another folder "Alex" appeared which was previously hidden.  But I couldn't have inside this folder.  I kept thinking it's gotto the missing folder; I have to get inside.  I then found a few instructions to access this folder at this link:

  I followed the steps there and restarted normal Windows and there it was "Alex Documents"! Each of them!

  I noticed that people call lightroom one type of non-destructive workflow of software.

  But if I make a change anywhere, for example I apply a preset first. Can I do other things.

  Now, let's say I like what I have did not last but I want a little change the preset that I applied first.

  Can I really go back, make the change and keep the rest of the latest changes?

  As far as I can see, recent changes are overwritten by the slight changes I make in the "Preset".

  Hi Guido,

  It is non-destructive that your original file is never modified, and you can always return to the original with no adjustment.

  Consider mounting a JPG in Photoshop and make several changes. Once you save the file in JPG format, all changes are "cooked" in the file. It's destructive, because you can never go back to the original file. With Lightroom, because changes are saved as XMP metadata in a list (which you see in the history), the unchanged original file is maintained and the changes are applied only to Lightroom, print preview and exported files. You still have the original intact and available.

  Power go back in history and insert a change while keeping everything afterwards is another matter. Lightroom can do that (although if you know what you wanted to change, you could always add later, if you knew exactly what are the parameters to be set.) No need to go back in the history, just don't make the change as you go.

  Constraints: the goal is to avoid having to select with the lasso tool or any other tool. I'm talking about adjustment layers here, who would not need to select parts of the first image.

  The input image has only a haldful of discrete colors: it is made of, say, about 10 areas with 10 different colors, alias 10 different RGB values.

  I will then apply these to each image adjustment layers in an animation, to selectively change the colors.

  If I understand you correctly, "Mix" so should work.

  Here, you can target specific values/ranges in each channel, for the underlying layer and current standards.

  You will lose not no editing, as you did on the picture when you move the File.You can always undo any changes made to your image (non-destructive editing) in the history panel in the develop module. The content of your Raw file is not affected.

  The warning below is just saying that Ctrl (command) + Z will not void. . It moves the file to the original location too. (of course, you can move the file back to the previous location)

  I'm about to purchase LR for the first time. Am I right in thinking that all the settings made in the image in LR are either stored in the raw file or a file and subsequently can be selectively modified? That is in a manner similar to the way NX2 works.

  So I wonder how the modules such as OnOne Nik and above all perfectly clear, fits into that. The worst change to an add-on stored in the raw file as a new layer which at least, you can delete and start over? What is better than that?

  Well well, the way you describe things, I don't think you got it right.

  Thus, change in Lightroom, send a TIF to Nik to have more editing and then it comes back TIF + Nik publishes to Lightroom. At this point, you can continue to edit the TIF + Nik changes in Lightroom, you lose nothing, you do not lose the previous changes of LR and you do not lose the changes of the Nik and you are able to add additional changes to LR on top of your previous of the LR changes and the changes of the Nik nothing is lost.

  What you can't do, is back in the chain... If you return to your original LR changes (before you sent the photo to Nik) and make changes more, the TIF does not, does not change the TIF + Nik changes and changes in LR TIF + Nik publishes + additional does not change. Similarly, if you go back to Nik and make changes more in the TIF, then the pictures in LR do not change.

  I would like to ask if there is a way to make non-destructive fades in hearing in waveform mode. I found that there are mainly two ways audio melted (manipulators in the editor or by using the effect of bland envelope). If I use one of these methods in waveform mode, they seem to be destructive. The only way I knew to apply no destructive bland is in multitrack mode, using manipulators in the Editor window. The problem with doing it this way, is that I don't get the big Visual return on the waveform.

  Waveform is intended to be destructive - in the same way that isn't multitrack. That's the way it works, I'm afraid. There's no way around it.

• Method of non-destructive editing clips?

  Is there a non-destructive way to edit clips? I create a multi camera edit, and 2 different but synchronized audio channels. What I've been doing so far is simply using the cutting tool for removal of sections of the timeline to show or hide a view of cameras. Already it has resulted in a big mistake, when I accidentally cut video I wanted to keep.

  Seems to me that there must be a better way. You can simply hide the sections of video / audio to achieve the same effect without remove them permanently from your timeline?

  Organization is non-destructive. That is permanent and not affect the source element.

  You can fix any "error / error/fault of decision" in the sequence by various means.

  For example, drag the ends of the clips to decrease and increase a "gap".

  I tried to find a non-destructive way of cutting a picture text and resulted in nothing.

  

  The only way I was able to create the effect is by deleting a selection of the text layer of the image which is not something that I can then change in the future.

  OK, I remembered something.  It has nothing to do with the clipping mask.  It's all about Knockout.

  I use the trial version of Photoshop Elements 9. Mac OS X 10.5.8. I imported a few pictures test from a folder in the Organizer. I flip the photo and items turned the real photo! I can't cancel it! I check the file Finder, and it is always running. Now I never use the items before, but I have Lightroom. In Lightroom, all is non-destructive. Why does not the case with the elements? Isn't this dangerous, the fact that the elements addressing non initiated people? Another program like iPhoto and Picasa photo organizer are not destructive. Am I missing something?

  Has never been "non-destructive" elements, it is therefore not surprising that PSE9 is "destructive." (And just for the record, I really hate these terms)

  However, in the simple case of rotation, it is possible to do it in a way without loss, where there is no loss due to JPG compression. I don't know if that's what happened when you tried to turn, but it wouldn't surprise me. And if that's what happened (lossless rotation), then the absence of warning wouldn't surprise me either.
