  InDesign CS5: I have a document with page 20 indesign file that is part of a book about InDesign document/chapter 23. Hidden codes are light blue through chapters 1 and 2. Then, in the middle of Chapter 3, at the bottom of page 10, hidden codes became Red until the end of this chapter. The next chapter contains the solid blue hidden codes.   I use InDesign CS 5.5 for a few years now and I am very happy with it.  Today, I started to create a new document and found no toolbars available, other than the menu bar, when I started the program. I found and placed these and started by pasting in graphs.  CTRL-V didn't work, so I used edition, paste instead.  Then I typed the text and found that the return key has not worked either, neither tab nor the arrows...  I dropped the paper and loaded up a post I created a couple of weeks, with the same result.  No toolbar and button back (on the main keyboard) didn't work, nor the other keys I mentioned.  The keyboard works fine in other applications.

  I rebooted the computer and reloaded InDesign.  I deleted (renamed actually) the InDesign Defaults file as indicated in the FAQ (I couldn't find a SavedData file).

  I use a desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 QuadCore PC.

  You did it all changes to Windows? Looks like it is probably this: panels and InDesign tools answer not to the clicks of the mouse (Windows 7/Vista)

  I uninstalled and reinstalled. It did not help; I had this same error again. I went to the Adobe support page and found nothing useful. According to me, he says "contact Adobe technical support", but I try my best to address this issue on my own before arriving in the support queue.

  It may be related, maybe not when I try to run Photoshop CS5, leads to the activation of the 30 day trial screen.   @Peter,

  In this case, the error 5 is a mistake of the AMT at the launch, not the file error corrupt you are thinking. Very likely, there are some incorrect or missing data in the files of database AMT (PCD/Caps), and using the script Clean latest CS5 to remove just the CS5 product data, then reinstlalling, would solve the problem. I'm in offline communication with Michael to help him try this.

  You can place a PDF file in an InDesign document, but you cannot modify it. You can make small amounts of editing PDF documents in Acrobat Pro.

  You download the two files (are they the two download?) and put them in a single folder. Next step is to run the EXE file to extract it. NOT decompress the .7z file. From the extracted files, run Setup.exe.

  Background:

  I had been using InDesign CS5 for a few years on my Win7 Ultimate x 64 machine.   A year and a half ago, I reloaded the OS and did not reinstall InDesign as I didn't need so.  It is used for a project once every six months near the end of the year. My InDesign CS5 is the update to Pagemaker, - installation is in the download file obtained via the Download Manager when licensed by Adobe in 2010. I think that it was updated to CS5.5 during that period but I have no file to install CS5.5,

  Problem:

  Tried to re - install at this time, and Setup fails.  He accepts the serial number but does not end: * I have attached the complete list of the errors at the end of this post.  I tried the install several times - initially with all InDesign bells and whistles, then restart your computer and retried and then again after restart a second time with no selected InDesign extensions (thinking that perhaps one who may be the cause) but no change in symptoms.

  I think it's either something fundamental with InDesign CS5 in conflict with some Win7 updated since the time when InDesign CS5 has worked, or interaction with other Adobe products.

We have not written anywhere product key or the original software/box with the fact that he came and also, I don't know what InDesign email address is logged because it has installed many years before I was hired. But I am able to access the hard drive on a Mac and see all the files to boot from an OSx on my USB key. So my question is: does anyone know the file or where I can find the product key on the hard disk?

  You can not find. The key is used when applications are installed. Activation will write a code nvisible. If you want to use any Adobe software on another computer, you must install it from the original installer (download or installer).

  But you should be able to see the Adobe ID that was used during execution of the program.

  If you have saved this important information and if you are not able to rebuild it, you're out of luck, you will have to buy it again.

  Beyond the information provided by Steve Werner...

  It is true that Photoshop cannot save an image on two levels (i.e. single bit monochrome) TIFF CCITT Group 4 compresses (or group 3-compresses).

  However, Acrobat Pro can save PDF as CCITT Group 4 compressed TIFF Group 3

  And I confirm that InDesign cannot place a CCITT Group 4 or group-3 compressed TIFF image.

  Ironically, Photoshop can open TIFF CCITT Group 4 compressed files but when simply save even saves TIFF compressed into ZIP files.

  So, the quickest way for the placement of your CCITT Group 4 TIFF files compressed in InDesign is to simply open and resave the TIFF files in Photoshop.

  Yes, a hack villain, but it allows you to work around this limitation.
