  • Mysteriously missing Internet connection

I have little computer knowledge. Have Pavillion notebook dv6000, Vista Service Pack 1. Wireless internet connection good for approximately 2 years with no problems. 3 days ago I uninstalled factory installed Norton Protection that was expired and free AVG and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

Now, when trying to connect to wireless internet through Internet Explorer continually receive error message "Internet Explorer cannot display web page". Tried Mozilla Firefox and was able to connect to internet through Mozilla a few times that same day until "Security alert" popped up and said to download a critical update. After this update I can no longer access internet through Mozilla either--get error message that Firefox has stopped working.

While still able to connect to internet with Mozilla, I installed Vista Service Pack 2. Windows also asked for some updates, but I don't recall what they were for. After these updates the "critical update" alert from Firefox came up and after installing it I can no longer access internet.

Laptop shows internet connections are fine, but connection will not go through. In Device Manager, Network adapters lists Broadcom 802......WLAN and Realtek RTL.....Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

Please advise as to what else I can do. I'm considering to a restore to factory condition through Recovery Manager, but it indicates it's best to do that while "connected to internet" obviously I can't connect to internet. I don't have recovery disks, but in reading some materials it seems that isn't necessary. We just recently backed up data for a different problem, so I don't need to back up anything. Just want internet connection.

In reading many of the issues posted here, am wondering if some type of virus is attacking?

My situation resolved after restoring your laptop to original factory condition.  Will post if this problem appears again.  Reading the other posts, it seems if you want latest Mozilla updgrades downloan, you must remove previous versions first or will experiment fails.  Is it possible that the same could be true for Internet Explorer?

I lost these icons and don't know how to get back them.  They are not in this toolbar customization.

    2 ways to recover...

1 do a system restore. Use a date where the icons were present on the notification as your restore point area.
Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish
To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done.

2 use this tutorial: use the three method.

How can I get the internet active icon to reappear it wont despite doing everything to get him to reappear such as notifications of the tick, display in the task bar and turn into network connections for notification, nothing works.  It has disappear intermittently, but came back he refuses now to reappear

    Hi Andy MWR.

-Remember to make changes to your computer before this problem started to happen?

Try the methods that are listed in the article given below to resolve this issue:
  • Pavilion h8 - 1287C: Desktop abandons Internet connection. Ping helps a little.

PC drops his Internet connection.  The Internet connection icon reset solved the problem.  But 10 times a day happens to be a little too much.  The PC has its second motherboard and a new piece of network adapter. Other PC no experenience not the problem as often.   Currently I use a cable between the pc and the router-modem connection.  He falls always on Internet, particularil so I let it run at idle for a while.

    Thanks Dragon-fur...

The gateway is only a couple of years, but it can still be the cause.  Other router ports work better.  Ping the router does no error.  I have the ping set every second.

    Kind regards

  • PC refreshed and no internet connection after

    Original title:

    Refreshed PC

I did a Refresh of Windows 8 on my laptop Asus T-transformer because I had problems with proxy. After the update, I have connected to the internet, but could not get a connection to Internet Explorer, Windows Store or one of the Windows applications that require an internet connection. All say connection to the internet unavailable when I try to use still same internet connection icon bar is says I have access to the internet, also I'm able to use Google Chrome and I used the same internet service for about 2 months with no problems until I updated my PC.  No idea why this is happening?

    Hi Chantal,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

    You can attach a screenshot?

Use a type of compressed as PNG or JPG image to save the screenshot.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.
  • I connect through IE 8.0. Firefox will not connect. The icon of waiting rolls and rolls until the screen saver is used. Is it my computer? My cable internet connection? Firefox?

I'm going to use IE 8.0 to write this. Although it is slower than usual, at least it connects. Since Firefox updated to v10.0.2; It connects, even at my homepage. The icon of connection (such as the hourglass in Windows); It just rolls and rolls. It's never connects or logs at a time or later (at best). The screensaver comes into play due to inactivity, even if it tries to connect. Is it my computer (I know I need more RAM)? What is my internet connection cable (I already called the provider and set up a tech visit). Or does this version of Firefox?

Who did it! Restored default on McAfee I.S. and restarted. Right this time. If this happens again, I will remember what to do. Thank you!
