Missing My Documents folder

I tried to back up the My Documents folder to a DVD player, but he did not write the disk and now I have a My Documents folder.  I tried restoring the system (using different restore points), but he failed.

Click on Start - Programs - Accessories - run and type

Shell: personal

This will open Documents (note there is not my Vista in) as I suspect that you have probably moved to the CD burning storage area. If it is good, click on the Documents in the file - properties - location tab and click on restore by default.

If Shell: personal not find it then type shell: CD Burning term and see if the Document is in the storage area of CD burning.

It will search your entire hard drive for the Documents folder. Click on start - all programs - accessories - right click on command prompt and choose Run as administrator. Type
dir /ad /s "c:\documents"

  • Documents folder deleted in error and start menu link does not work again

In the folder tree pane (Vista Home Premium) it appeared that I had inadvertently copied double my completed application documents in the foledr of downloads, as it seemed that I had two copies of everything: waste of disk space. So I deleted the subfolder Documents of the record of downloads... and the main Documents folder are missing too! It's all the same thing. I don't understand why. But anyway. It wasn't in the Trash because there had been too much to go over there, so it is all definitely eliminated and lost: more than 8 GB :-(

Therefore, the Documents link in the start bar stopped working. Even after that I created a new Documents folder in the same location as the original, the link on the start menu does not; When I click on properties for the link, the path is empty, and I can't find a way to save a path to it. Any ideas?

The Document folder is a special folder that will be created in a special way.  Here is the procedure to correct a record that has not been created properly: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/90705-personal-user-shell-folders.html.

Here is another article on how to restore a missing (like Documents) under Vista personal user folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/148461-personal-user-folder-restore-missing-folder.html.

Between these articles, I think you should be able to solve your problem in one way or another.

    =================================================================================================================

In case you're still interested in trying to retrieve the dossier of Documents initially lost, here are some options you can try:

If you have Vista Business, Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise, you can be lucky.  They have so-called saves shadow copies, which are deleted or modified files that can be recovered in case changes/deletions made by mistake.  http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx more information about how to use this feature to: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/howdoi/?p=145.

If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, shadow copies is not available; However, there is an alternative that is free and the shadow copies feature called Shadow Explorer. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/recover-files-with-shadow-copies-on-any-version-of-windows-vista/.  Although it will not help you this time, it could very well save you in case this happens again.

In case this does not work (not all files are available through shadow - it occurs periodically), here are some additional free recovery programs that might help:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html (first try Recuva)

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/DiskDigger.html (try this second - if this fails too, then the chances of recovery are very slim, but we invite you to try other programs if you want)

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/easusdfr.html

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/restoration.html

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/downloads/Recuva/dlrecuva.html

    http://www.SoftPerfect.com/products/FileRecovery/

    http://techpaul.WordPress.com/2008/06/23/how-to-recover-your-lost-files/

The files are not really deleted until they are crushed (although they are no longer available through conventional methods).  If you decide to try these recovery programs, you should stop using your drive hard immediately in order not to replace the data that you are trying to recover.  He slave on another PC and launch the recovery of this PC.  Even now you have definitely lost some of them if you use the same PC.  If you can not do this (slave on another PC), you run the risk of overwriting the data with every action you do on the PC (but you may still be able to recover some or most or even all files - it's a matter of luck).

Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the PC to an expert data recovery to recover files (they will have better programs and hardware to do that none of us do, and I've provided above).  Do NOT go to the Geek Squad or one of these centers of store-, they generally don't know what they are doing - it take for expert data recovery.  It will cost you a little and they generally offer no guarantees.  The decision is yours.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • How it warns all downloaded documents to visit the virtualized Documents folder

Just got a new laptop with Windows 7 and I am very frustrated with the limitation of ridiculous security interfering with my work.

I download a lot of files jpg of Ancestry.com.  They seem to go in My Documents folder that you specified, but are not visible in Explorer.  This happens with all files downloaded from the internet even if done on the desktop. After 3 unsuccessful attempts of Geek Squad agents, I finally understand they're going to temporary Internet files / virtualized. It seems that my C: drive all is now assigned as C: / appears under the virtualized folder.  I can get around this problem of security assinine to track down files and moving them to the location I thought I was keeping them but it is a real pain.  Is there a setting that I can change so that these files are not in the folder virtualized?  How can I get my C: / drive out of the virtualized folder?  Security doesn't let me do anything with it and I am the one and only user/administrator on this computer.  Windows XP, how I miss you?

OK - as far as I know Windows 7 does NOT come natively with a folder "virtualized" whatever it is, you're talking about.

If this is a NEW computer, then I think you should contact the support desk for your brand on what is happening.

  • No iCloud drive merger or double documents folder?

I have two computers that I had of the SugarSync, sync.  In other words, the documents folder on both computers, through SugarSync, is synchronized and identical.  If I go into system preferences > iCloud and click Options to iCloud drive and turn on the desktop and Documents folders, be it synchronize (or fusion) the dossier of documents on two computers or it will publish two documents separate (and then more and more different) folders?  Thank you, in advance!

I use iCloud Drive to synchronize the office and the three Macs Documents folder.

Initially, the synchronization to create a folder for the documents of every Mac as subfolders of Documents and office, named 'old Documents - computer name '. Thus, there are essentially three separate folders of documents of each computer. I have to merge them on mine, if I want to.

In my case, that doesn't matter much, because I started syncing with almost empty Documents and office on three Macs.  Any document that I add after the initial synchronization is now synchronized with the devices.

In your case, where the records are already synchronized, you could simply remove a set of Documents on one computer, before you start the synchronization.

It is probably created by the so-called "Quick License Manager" (developer name "Soraco"), installed by a third-party app, but I can't tell you that one.

  • How can I restore my time capsule documents folder?

I use an iMac OS X El Capitan and support up to a Time Capsule airport running.

One of our user accounts on the iMac ran into problems w access to the apple of the user ID (could not access iCloud preferences, etc.) before doing a clean reinstall of the OS X software, so I opted to try to remove the problematic user account (another account has no problems) and then configure a new user account. It seems (the jury is still pending on that) have toured and account is running normally.

My question now is to restore a subset of the records of the time Machine to the specific user. Is it possible and if yes, can you give me instructions on how to do?

    Thanks in advance.

Migration wizard does not have the granularity you need. It is simply not possible to choose more great lines.

So, you'll need to do it via the standard recovery... method that looks like you have never used.

This is the basic method of use Time Machine, you will need to learn how do.

TM open via icon in the dock. If this isn't in the dock it from applications.

All you have to do is open TM...

Go to the date when the user has always existed.

Now in the finder as the interface.

Go to the user that you want to restore... I suggest that you actually just take the folder of any user.

Sorry I can't take screenshots inside the TM... so if this is not clear look at a standard youtube video, of which there are hundreds.

It's the old version... but it is clear and well spoken.

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=6bcf54aRBPk

Restore now all the folder to somewhere else... maybe not even on your hard drive, but on a USB key or a convenient place.

Once the entire restored user to a location, you can then choose say all the documents in the documents folder and copy it directly to the new user that you created, file documents... same thing for music, even for photos etc... the actual application should always be connected libraries... which will make you within itunes or photos, etc..

Our great master guru on this stuff is Pondini, who died some time ago... and it is a few obsolete versions... but it is always interesting to read.

About the use of configuration and migrate...

    http://pondini.org/TM/home.html

    The real using TM

    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

The restoration is Q14-17 and fairly detailed.

I made an example using method pondini... just iphoto, but gives a good idea how do...

Cannot access old files on time capsule

If you want to just retrieve the documents folder say... Then, you can use the same method... Simply select the entire folder.

The permissions problems arise often... but once the files on your local disk, you can correct them.

  • How to use "Insert" in the Documents folder in an e-mail message?

I would lke to use the "drawing" file to insert into the documents folder.

If you have a file that is stored in the Documents folder, it just start your new message and click Insert attachments. The Documents folder opens and you can select your file. Double-click it, or click open to add it to your email.

  • After upgrading from Vista created a new documents folder and now ignores the original

Last week I updated my computer (which I believe has an update of the graphics card and some windows stuff) using Windows update and left while he was closing. I guess what he finished close, but as I was leaving for the weekend, I can't be 100% sure and this weekend my house loses power at least once.

As for the problem, at windows startup today made first time setup that works normally when you connect to a user account for the first time. Applications of Sidebar by default loading, the default value of the user interface (that I don't use, so it was the first sign), and I found that on the opera opening, all my favorites and settings were gone.

At the opening of my documents, I found that they were completely empty of content, including all hidden folders where all of my settings the user should be.

Navigation around the computer, I find that this will C:\Users\USERNAME\ my documents are still intact, but are ignored, with all the shortcuts leading to my documents redirect me to the 'new' documents folder, which means that for all purposes useful all my user settings for all programs that store data in the documents have been reset.

Maybe someone has an idea of what may have caused this?  Personally, it's one of the strangest bug I've ever seen in any version of windows, and I'm not sure how I should go to deal with it.

    Update:

To check the path of the 'new' documents folder, it appears as C:\Users\TEMP

This means at least all of my original documents folder has not been deleted, but I'm trying to support everything up to an external drive where vista decided to replace my old documents folder entirely.

    Hello

You can perform a restore of the system on the computer to restore the previous settings again.

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

For more information follow the link below.

    System Restore: frequently asked questions
