MMS 5650 missing Center Fix

Hello world!

I read never really many on the Dell forums, but I want to share something with everyone in hopes of helping someone, I discovered.

Recently, my neighbor, who I do a good bit of work at the computer, went to a yard sale and bought a system MMS 5650. She bought thinking it was a computer! Again, however, I was working on his computer that night and told him it was not a computer, but it is rather a speaker system. She said that she couldn't use it, so she gave it to me.

So I get home and I'm looking on it, to realize that missing a center speaker. After some research, I learned that the center speaker feeds the whole system with its switch on / off. However, being as curious as I am, I opened the subwoofer bass/receiver to do tests. After a while of wire tracing, I decided to try jumpers on some pins. Hey, no center speaker, so if it is fried, it fried.

I realized that the on / off switch circuit had to do with the DB9 connector on the back of the unit. I spent some time to place a wire on several pins with no luck. Then, suddenly, the whole system came to life only to falter to silence, literally. This brings to mind a potentiometer, or wheel to control volume, must be on the center speaker.

This means that there must be another set of pins that needs a rider. Then, I tested a bit more and found that the PIN was right next to the first two. It is such an easy solution!

Here's how to fix it: put a thread on pins 2 and 7 and another wire on pins 3 and 8. This creates the circuit and the powers on the system. Optional: I did my riders in an old series extension cable to tinker more easily.

He seems to pin 6 has some amount of tension to this topic, but I have no idea how. This leaves 4 that pins open, right? Fix. One thing to note is that the grounding is done through the screws on the original DB9 plug. So, in theory, the other 2 pairs of pins to go to two separate speakers, i.e. inside the center speaker!

It shouldn't be difficult to find what areas focus the audio, and then I'm going to attach a headphone jack of 3.5 mm on each that will then be linked to a set of speakers left from an old computer. You could exchange the plug for headphones with RCA plugs depending on your situation.

This concludes how to fix your MMS 5650 home theatre system. Feel free to ask questions and make suggestions. The difficulty of the ultimate amateur, go to radioshack and get a male DB9. Weld the two pins necessary sets and fix your catch in a pretty box also available here. Nice and clean!

Not bad for an amateur teen, huh?

Hello

Not bad, but I have a different pin

I was looking for the same solution for my Center speaker is also absent.

As I found nothing on the internet, so I took the bass part, a little behind all this engineering.

Here's what it looks like on my end of the world:

pins 1, 2 are shorted and the center speaker on (+)

PIN 5, 9 are also shorted and also for the center speaker (-) (I'm not sure of the +/-thing)

PIN 4, 6 connect these (power)

pin 3 connect a potentiometer (out / wiper)

PIN 7 potentiometer (Terminal 1)

PIN 8 potentiometer (terminal 2)

When I tried with a 100K potentiometer, it was too big, could not turn down the volume. It is probably a 10K, because the system has its own volume control ic.

So here it is, hope I helped for all the jokers (like me) who doesn't have enough money to buy a new system.

Peace

Jim the HUN :D

    Hi Dan Maarsman,.

-Did you change on your computer before this problem?
-Do you have any third party registry cleaner program installed on your computer?

Start your computer Safe Mode and check if you can successfully start.

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not work in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and

  • MMS 5650 sound control does not

    Hello

The sound control to adjust the volume in my Center speaker does not work, it turn on and off the sound system, but the noise level is always the same, it has no effect on the sound level.

I don't really know when the problem started, maybe when I installed Windows Vista, although I can't confirm that.

I deleted and reinstalled the latest version of my card Creative sound, the SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM).

Any idea, comment or the link to the possible solution will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

The only thing to check in the PC is the configuration of the speakers.  Go to Control Panel - hardware and sound - its Panel.  Left click on your speaker icon to highlight, and then click Configure and select the 5.1 speaker system.  You can also test the speakers on this Panel.

If it is configured correctly, the problem is internal in the speaker system.  The only thing you can do is "resettlement" of all connections of speakers (unplug then plug into each connector by ensuring they are deep-set).  If it is not in warranty there is no repair for the speaker systems.  Even if you could find a place to fix the price of a new system of speaker would be about the same as the price of the minimum work.

, I ran an in depth with AVG and ran Adaware scan and nothing showed up. I also ran a fix of batch file from another topic that was supposed to restart these services and who restarted the service BITS, but still no luck with the Defender, firewall or Security Center. I turned off AVG free version (no built in firewall) and still no luck. I also ran a Microsoft fix for the Windows Firewall and it just hung and never finished. As far as I can tell that it continues to receive windows updates, 16/05/12 was his last.

It's my dads PC and I don't know when this started. I installed AVG and Adaware when it 1st had the PC 2 years ago.

All that I really care is that it has the Windows Firewall running it is already using the free version of AVG, but it has no firewall. My question is, is it possible Microsoft Security following summer not included in the previous version of Vista before service packs? Adversely, if possible, so I just tried to download the windows firewall or the whole of MS Security Center?
