Monitoring ESXi 4 via SNMP
We have a network and a monitoring program device that now takes in charge "ESX". However, we would like to try and see if we can use it to monitor the ESXi. We currently have vSphere Enterprise with ESXi and vCenter installed.
Is there a way taken in charge to monitor the ESXi hosts and customers using SNMP? We point the SNMP monitor at each host, or just for the vCenter Server? If possible, how to define the community string, etc.
Thank you!

Access to the use of memory and processing power charge connect 6224 via SNMP.
Hi support them
Is it possible to access the use of memory and processing power charge connect 6224 via SNMP? If possible, should the mib I use?
Thanks in advance
Rogerio
When looking through the available MIB found in the zip file for download of the latest firmware. I see that the MIB fastpathswitching mentions 'agentSwitchCpuProcessGroup '.
MIB fastpathlogging has 'agentLogInMemoryConfigGroup '.
There is no reference document material about what offer different MIB.
I hope this helps.

Access to the table of dynamic addresses via SNMP
Hello
I am trying to access the table of dynamic addresses via SNMP, with a PowerConnect 6248 switch. I tried to follow the instructions [1], as other parts of the BRIDGE-MIB are ok on this switch.
When snmpwalk'ing BRIDGE - MIB:dot1dTpFdbEntry, I have nothing, while, on the switch web interface there are entries in the table.
Any idea?

SGE2010 how to trigger backups via SNMP?
Hello
I've tried, so unsucessfully, to trigger backups on our switches SGE201 TFTP server. I have backups testesd TFTP through the web interface, and who does not. I need SNMP as I need a method for trgiger scriptable backups on a regular basis. I run the query SNMP from a RedHat Linux server. So far, I have the following query worked, but it is a failure:
snmpset - v - 1 c COMMUNITY SWITCH. MGMT. JPM ADDRESS 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.87.2.1.7 I have 2 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.87.2.1.8 I have 3 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.87.2.1.9 has TFTP.SERVER.IP.ADDRESS 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.87.2.1.11 s 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.87.2.1.17 FILE name I have 4
The error I get is generic, and the same query failed on several switches operating the 3.0.0.18 software. The switch is set with the community having full access from the IP address of the SNMP-admin server.
If someone here was able to run SNMP triggers backups and would be ready to post their query and/or software that would be greatly appreciated. Any other suggestions, comments or tips are also welcome. Thank you for your time.
Jeff,
The procedure to download or update the config via SNMP is as follows:
(1) download the MIB files that we officially freed from cisco.com
(2) compile the MIB on MIB browser in format for example MG-SOFT, Kortright. Make sure that there is no error in compilation.
(3) configure SNMPv2 or SNMPv3 accordingly on switch SGE2010
(4) search for the CISCOSBCopy.mib file.
The OID is SNMPv2 - SMI:enterprises (1.3.6.1.4.1) .cisco (9) .otherEnterpise (6) .ciscosb (1) .odm1 (101). CISCOSBCopy (87)
With the help of rlCopyTable (2), create a new entry on this particular table:
a. rlCopyRowStatus: 4 (createAndgo)
b. rlCopySourceLocation: 1 (local)
c. rlCopySourceIpAddress: 0.0.0.0d. rlCopySourceUnitNumber: 1
e. rlCopySourceFileName: (empty)
f. rlCopySourceFileType: 3 (config startup), 2 is for execution of configg. rlCopyDestinationLocation: 3 (tftp)
h. rlCopyDestinationIpAddress: 192.168.10.22 (ip address of the tftp server)i. rlCopyDestinationUnitNumber: 1
j. rlCopyDestinationFileName: 0 x 61: 62:63 (in hexadecimal, abc)By doing this, it should be able to backup startup config devices unit to remove the tftp server.

Second monitor not detected via the dvi - d port
Hi I have a Hp slimline s5610y. Windows 7 64-bit. It is a new system with 3 ghz ram and more than 600 gaeremynck ram so I know that this is not a problem of performance, (duty handling system), I am looking to hook up two monitors, product sheet page on H.P. States that ports Vga and Dvi d may be used at the same time. I have the converter dvi-d/VGA, hooked to a monitor via the Vga port on a single computer (which doesn't work). The Vga port to vga works fine (the first monitor. I already check the easy as stuf "carrier dual monitor", unplug the monitor, update the latest driver for radeon 3000 and restart windows. I hooked two monitors before without any problem. Any ideas out there?
Thank you
Manny
Hi again,
If it is a dvi - d, you need a computer screens which have dvi - d.
A graphics card with a dvi - i port also supports vga monitors.OK - page of your product (return i/o ports):
http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02552467It is a true dvi - d - then Yes, you need a digital monitor with a dvi - d port.

Cannot access ESXi server via network
Hello world!
We have a HP C7000 Encolosure with 4 BL460c Gen 8 blades in front size of it. Back size of the C7000, we have 2 SAN Switch, 2 switch HP BLc GbE2c layer 2/3 and 2 Onboard Administrator Module.
Everything is working fine with IP addresses like this:
OA active:
IP address: 172.16.0.253
STANBY OA:
IP address: 172.16.0.254
Server Blade BL460c Bay 1:
The IP address of the ILO: 172.16.0.10
Server Blade BL460c Bay 2:
The ILO IP address: 172.16.0.11
BL460c blade Bay 9:
The ILO IP address: 172.16.0.19
Server Blade BL460c Bay 10:
The ILO IP address: 172.16.0.20
We can ping pc that connected to the port of ILO on Onboard Administrator (OA) IP addresses above. (I can it call PC MANAGE?)
Continue, we access OA via Web https://172.16.0.253 use of , then Console integrated to control 4 Server blades. We have mounted image ESXi 5.1 U1 and successfully installed on 4 servers blade.
We manually config IP address on each ESXi Server (like this):
BL460c Server Blade on Bay 1 as server ESXi 1:
IP address: 10.0.0.11
BL460c Server Blade on Bay 2 as server ESXi 2:
IP address: 10.0.0.12
BL460c Server Blade on Bay 9 as a server ESXi 9:
IP address: 10.0.0.19
BL460c Server Blade on 10 Bay as a server ESXi 10:
IP address: 10.0.0.20
Now we can ping server to another server ESXi ESXi 1. I mean 4 Blade Server can ping together.
BUT:
-We can not ping servers to blade PC of manage (that PC connect to the port of ILO on OSTEOARTHRITIS. In this scene, MANAGE PCs has the IP 172.16.0.100/16)
-We unplug the network cable from the port of iLO, then connect it to the port number 24 on HP BLc GbE2c LY 2/3 switch, then address IP of the PC to MANAGE the 10.0.0.100/24 value. Always the same, can only access servers
Can someone explain to me how to access this server (ping, http, etc...). Do we have to config switch HP BLc GbE2c LY 2/3? We read many many guide on the HP website, but they have not mentioned about routing or switch to configure
Thanks in advance!
It's my mistake!
My servers have 2 connections FlexLOM. That a connection has been enabled for 'network management' in ESXi. I do not understand, then I activated 2 connections. That cause outside the network can not access them.
I just disabled a single connection and everything works perfectly.
I thank everyone!

Should I not making ESXi available via an external IP address?
What is recommended practice to access ESXi? I have currently access logging via an external ipv6 address.
What do most users of VMWare here? To connect through a VPN and connect to an internal IP address?
No doubt internal only. You have a windows server ESXi hosts on top that has say installed teamviewer, and have access to the vpshere customer.

To access the ESXi 6 via the webclient service
Greetings,
I'm sorry if I'm just cutting on it, but maybe it's an easy question to answer.
I'm in a very locked down environment and I can not access vSphere windows client (client installation is not allowed on my windows desktop).
I have 5 hosts ESXi 6.0 and I need to deploy vSphere 6 on top of these hosts. My plan was to go directly to one of the hosts and install vCenter on a virtual machine on that host.
From this point, I would be able to connect to vCenter and build the rest of the environment.
As I don't have access to the Windows client, I have to use the web client to interact with the environment (I would need to connect the host to the first and build vCenter), but given that I have not vCenter or the webclient service installed yet, I see not a way to actually enter the ESXi host using the webclient service. I know with 5.5, was the order for the installation:
1.) SSO
2 web client).
3. inventory service)
4.) vCenter Server
But what I would do here with version 6? Can I run the installer of vCenter and install the web client on my desktop and then use it to access the host to create the environment?
It seems that the windows client really is a must if you want to connect to a host (if you don't have the webclient service installed). Is this fair?
There is no webclient for administrering a stand-alone ESXi host, only the Windows client.
However the vCenter device built in deployment tool to deploy a vcenter device you don't need customer C sharp, but you must be able to install the plugin for integration of customer.
If you need a Windows vCenter server you need to deploy the fashion old way

Stop a host ESXi (free) via PowerCLI
Please can someone tell if it is possible to use PowerCLI (in a Windows box) to stop a free VMware ESXi host is not a member of any vSphere infrastructure?
If so, che, the PowerCLI script seem a guest VM in the same ESXi host, so that the script performs the following tasks:
Issue a command to stop the ESXi host in 30 minutes
- Deliver a comand to stop all VM clients
- Issue a command to shutdown the Guest Windows itself in 5 minutes
UIs here any question, I'm missing?
Concerning

On the ESXI version free PowerCLI is limited to read-only (all cmdlets Get-) operations, I'm afraid.

Hello
I just installed a new ESXi 4.1 on Dell PowerEdge R300 server. I tested the various redundancies (unplug the power cable, I get a notification missing PSU in vSphere Client, disconnect one of the hard drives, I get attention of said in vSphere Client, etc.). However, all of these warnings appear only in the vSphere Client. That will do me no good if I don't really connect on my host by using the vSphere Client!
Is it possible to install ESXi to send an email when one of these events occur?
Thanks in advance!
