Mounting of external drive problem

I have a 4GB Seagate connected to my iMac and it is partitioned in trois-un clone, a Time Machine and we're backups.

The first two mount OK but backups don't mount not. Tried to stop and unplug the iMac & Seagate. Disk utility show all three backups shows that without title and will not do not run disk first aid.

How can I get this thing working again?

Help please,

Rookie

He can't let you to perform first aid because the computer thinks it is to use.

Try to boot from the recovery drive (restart the computer and hold command-R) and then see if you can use the first aid in here disc utility.

    Hello world

My 2 TB My Book western digital external drive died after a small bump of my elbow. I bought a new, 4to. I have it plugged into my computer (Ubuntu 13.04 the host 64-bit), and it seemed ok - until I tried to connect it to my virtual machines, where I need for the most part - and it simply does not work. I have a 64 bit 13.04 Ubuntu machine and 4 new cases of tuberculosis is not recognized. In ubuntu it simply does not show, no message, nothing. I'm getting desperate with all my WD drives giving these problems - I have thought about trying to mount the disk manually on my ubuntu vm. The former 2 TB drive that I had used to automount with no problems. And it installs ok in the host, so I don't understand why it does not show in the virtual machine. Someone suggested to me that maybe the problem is the size of 4 TB - is this a problem with vmware? If so, what is the solution? It cannot be a linux problem because on the host computer, it works well. Any other suggestions, what could be the problem, that I could try to do?

    Thanks in advance,

    > My workstation is 8.0.6 - this means that it only is not supported for usb 3?

Sounds like it. My USB 3.0 controller (add-on) only works if I select 3.0 in the virtual machine settings. If I didn't, it recognizes the device is plugged in, but cannot load a driver (and displays a dialog box saying).

This on a Ubuntu VM, running on a host of Mint. I can use it via the connection to the host.

You have 2.0 ports on your host?

  • How to mount an external drive in Snow Leopard Server VM

I've created a Snow Leopard Server VM running in my office of Lion native.  I would like to run the migration wizard on an external drive of Snow Leopard to migrate a lot of user data and applications (a snow leopard to be precise user account).  I can't find a way to mount the external hard drive in the virtual machine.  Should I create a disk image of this external hard drive, or something to get there?  Anyone tried this?

I guess an external USB drive?   Can't redirect the USB device to your virtual machine?

  • WD My Passport drive external drive will not mount once my Macbook Pro is already on

    Hello

I actually had this problem for a year or two, but I'm finally getting bugged to this topic enough to see if it can be 'fixed '.

I have a 2 to WD My Passport portable HD connected to my macbook pro via an external (wall outlet) powered TRUST 5 x USB3 Hub.  If everything is connected, when I start the macbook pro there is no problem and the WD My Passport is mounted in the finder.  But if I remove manually the hard drive and then try to mount it again while the macbook pro is running it doesn't mount not.  It used to, but he won't now.

In the past the WD My passport would need to unplug and perhaps the USB3 hub would need power cable disconnect from him and the USB hubs out the macbook pro.  So when I joined this new and plugged the hard drive WD in the hub, it would rise very well.  But now it's just point blank refuses to ride until I restart the macbook pro.  Once I restart it it climbs perfectly and stays up forever--until it is dismantled manually - and then I have to restart the macbook pro again so he could mount once more.

I tried all combinations of pull cables and adapters to power but nothing has worked.  After dismantling the WD hd and plug back on the USB3 light led on the hub hub lights up and the hard drive turns manually, but, as I say, it is not mount and it is not visible in disk utility.

Any ideas please?  It's a bit annoying to have to keep restarting the mac whenever I had to unplug the hard drive WD.

"As issued" WD Passport appear to cause a number of reports of trouble around here. You have already taken the first "not best" - using a powered hub. Just make sure that the hub is really power (lights on, for example). It could be that the external drive is in its death throws.

This happen if the WD is the only thing on the powered hub?

The Mac USB ports work with other devices?

Here's what my experience with these things has believing me. WD made great bare discs, but I can't be so kind to their pens. Three questions:

    (1) I think that they should use chipsets which are not very easy to Mac.

    (2) most driving the ship formatted for Windows

    (3) even those shipped as "Mac editions have some odd which makes it difficult to access file formatting.

If you do not have to share the drive with a Windows computer, you can reformat the drive and that often fixes "fail to mount/recognize" question. Disk utility is your tool of choice here because it is already installed on your Mac. Completely erase the WD drive by selecting the tab 'Clear' in the bar tabs to disk utility. Define the plan of Partition to GUID Partition map and journaled for Mac extended format. Press the button 'clear '. The reader will now will be rid of eccentric WD partitioning and formatting schemes and be a good Mac hard drive.

If you share the road with a Windows computer, consider getting a better workout. After having fought external drives 'brand' on my computers and others that I maintain, I now use only boxes of other computer world with naked WD drives inside. Since this change, I have zero problems. For my MacBook Pro, I use this forum:

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/item/OWC/MEPMU3ES/

I ordered the external power optionally for use at home and go on the road bus-powered. It's an empty envelope - just a hard drive of nu. They are more expensive than the stuff that Staples puts on sale every weekend, but are much more reliable. I ask the question. "What is my value data?"

  • Re: Portege R830 eSATA - failure to mount the external hard drive

{color: #000000} I have a new Portege R830 with combined eSATA / USB port. It will recognize an external drive in as drive 0 Device Manager but does not mount the drive under Win 7 x 64. The road rises and works absolutely normally under USB2 via the combined port or one of the other ports on the PC. The player works absolutely normally under eSATA on another desktop PC Win 7 x 64

Search Internet suggests that this is a widespread problem with Win 7, but given the above commentary to normal operation on my desk, strongly indicates that it is "simply" a laptop Toshiba driver problem Win 7 x 64.

A workaround solution that someone had reported was to boot the PC with the drive connected. This will lead to the PC mount the drive, but I found to be unreliable - tends to freeze the unpredictable machine, but when logged in it showed he was transferring data at a reasonable speed.

The search for these forums, no solution has not identified... Toshiba - think you should answer it please!

Afetr all is a 'feature' significant on the Portege and rather defeats the point if it is impossible to use...

    Kind regards

    Hi mate

First of all, it is a forum for a user to this don t address issues from Toshiba here in the forum, but other users of this community.

Back to your question; Does this mean that the HARD drive connected to the eSATA port cannot be recognized as device eSATA but USB device?

Please check if you are using the latest version of the BIOS. On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find the BIOS version transferred to 29/07/11.
In addition, I recommend to check the BIOS settings; check if eSATA is activated it.

  • OSX does not automatically mount external drives for a user

I'm having a problem where external drives are not mounted automatically in one of my user accounts. This is independent of the format of the drive, ability, or port. Driving, if the drive flash, hard drive or SD card, must be installed manually in disk utility. It appears dimmed under external and I select the mount option. Once I do this drive works normally.

This only happens in one of my user accounts. Into account other external drives come up automatically and displayed in the Finder and the desktop. Users have permissions admin, no parental control is activated. The only difference I know is the user account that does not correctly use iCloud as login.

The details of the device/osx are:

MacBook Pro (retina, 15 inch, mid-2015)

    10.11.2 version (15 c 50)

So far I have used first aid on my boot drive, run Apple Diagnostics (no problem found) and reset the NVRAM.

Please read this message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It is unlikely to solve your problem. Don't be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The test is intended to determine if the problem is caused by a third-party software that loads automatically at startup or logon, by a device, by a police conflict or corruption of system files or some system caches.

Disconnect all devices wired except those required to test and remove all the expansion cards from secondary market, as appropriate. Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things work at all, including an audio output and a Wi - Fi connection on some models. The next normal boot can also be a bit slow.

The login screen is displayed even if you usually connect automatically. You need your password to log on. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

Test in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and make sure you always have the problem. View the results of the test.

  • Drive external DRIVE will not mount after resizing in Windows

    Hi all

I got a 1 TB external drive that I used for a while about 10 Windows and OSX (El Capitan). I had two partitions Configuration for use on every platform without any problems.

Then, I needed extra space on the Windows partition, so I think that, if I remember correctly, that I've resized using the disk management tool in Windows. I reduced the OSX volume and increased the size of the Windows volume. I can probably hear you all shout now.

Surprise, my volume OSX will now not mount when I run in El Capitan. It does not show in disk utility, and the only way to 'see' it is using diskutil:

  • Trying to access the files on an external drive. It is denied. Some files are accessable. / problem solved. But please help me learn.

    Hello.

I use XP Home 32-bit Edition. My a-external hard drive is a Western Digital My Book Essential 1.5 Tb USB2 HARD drive: model number: WDBAAF0015HBK-00.

I can't access all files on the external hard drive. Currently, I mounted it on a folder. I have some files tif on the external hard drive and wanted to access my photos.

The message that I had to right click and select open with was "access to C:\(Folder tree) denied." I tried my programs and the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer of image editing. Nothing works.

When I right click on the images of problem the only options I have are: open, print, edit, Preview, open with, send to. None of these work.

Some files are not accessible, and others. Unaccessable files do not have a preview image in the window pane (on the lower left side when I'm in the folder).

This can happen if I didn't 'delete safetly' external hard drive or there was a Brown out? Some of the tif are too long file extensions? Shouldn't windows warn me too long file extensions?

I consulted the havn't the reader for a while.

I can not drag and drop the files to my desktop. I can't copy, cut, delete or move the files. When I click on a file, and then click file - properties: nothing shows up and he says: size: 0 bytes, size on disk: 0 bytes. But when I click on the file in the folder, it says that it is 23.3 MB. I can move the folder on my desktop.

When I select all the files and click on file - properties: it is said attributes: read-only and hidden. They are green in box, I have not did those and it does not work. I clicked on Advanced Options, again I had unstapled the ReadOnly and hidden, then I unchecked all 4 options because they were greenboxed too. It's green boxes, not the check marks in both situations. What are the green boxes?

    ______________________________________________________

Fixed a problem. I dragged and deposited the files on my desktop and I can access it. At this point, I just thought, since I had problems with the music files (mp3 or wav) is too long and is not be able to access or remove them, but I can delete the folders to get rid of them.

So my question is why am I unable to access the files? This is a limitation of my external hard drive? Can I test or repair? What is this kind of disk with this version of Windows? What is a format? It's NTFS. Computer management indicates that the external drive is healthy.

It seems that some files are not named as long as others and I could access those. Is there a limit on character/attribution of Tif or all types of files? If so, is it the same? Pourrait - linked to the way in which the external (or internal drive?) is setup in the policies tab? Are each disk different? They seem to be a little more limited than the internal hard drives, but I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the usb2.

Does anyone know if there is a program or a way to know how many letters or numbers have been used? Microsoft Word and Works a number of words, but Works 9 (I have that) doesn't have a number of letter.

Contradict you yourself.  At one point, you said:

    > I can not drag and drop the files to my desktop. I can't copy, cut, delete or move the files.
    and then you say:
    > A problem fixed. I dragged and deposited the files on my desktop and I can access it.

This side, the general approach to access in this case is "Ownership" of these files.
"How appropriate a file or a folder in Windows XP"

This probably occurred because the files were created on different computers by users with different Secure ID (SID) or you have reinstalled Windows and files were protected to some extent.  Since you are using XP Home Edition, the only way to see the security settings is to start your computer using safe mode and log in as an administrator.  This will give you access to the 'Security' tab when you right-click on a file and select 'Properties' (as described in the article above).  Apart from connecting with Safe Mode, you can use 'Cacls' command from a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") to view or change permissions on files

  • Lightroom CC - edition in the external editor with images located on the external hard drive problems

I have recently moved most of my image containing folders on external hard drive. In general, everything works smoothly in Lightroom (running latest CC). However, if I try to use an external editor of in Lightroom, I managed opening image in Photoshop CC if it is chosen. However, if I try to edit in a NIK Collection programs (i.e. Viveza 2) or affinity Photo I get error messages. The copy of Tiff is generated within lightroom, but at the spearhead of the external editor the following messages are met...

The images open with Nik Collection and Photo of affinity and save in Lightroom when save. Everyone knows about this problem? And if you have, is there a resolution?

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

    Neil

Looks like I solved my problem with Lightroom. I disassembled my external backup drive, but upheld the disk external drive containing the photos up and then restarted my mac. After the reboot, I open Lightroom and chose the image on an external drive for mounting in affinity Photo and Collection of Nik. Both image successfully opened in editors. I reassembled the backup drive and rebooted time machine and repeated the same opening picture in external editors. Once again, works great. Have no idea where the original problem. Looks like a bad path was stored in a config somewhere file.

  • I have an ERROR CODE 36 during the backup of my library of PHOTOS from one external drive to another. What is the best way to solve this problem? Also, what is someone used 'dot_clean '?

I have a MacBook Pro that is primarily used for PHOTOS and use 2 external drives 1 for holding my PHOTO library and one for the back up. I have about 1 TB of data of photos. My back ups have worked perfectly since the establishment more than 12 months ago. However, I just got a CODE of ERROR - 36 problem which prevents the backup after that about 700 GB of data has been processed. I need to find a solution and I was wondering if anyone can advise me on that. I saw something called "dot_clean" on the web and I was wondering if it is safe to consider option.

If the Photos or iPhoto is running, exit it and try the backup again.

  • Impossible to mount the external hard drive on iMac

I have a Seagate NTFS hard drive mounting problem on my iMac, do anyone know why?

I am aware that iMac does not support the NTFS format. Already when I plug the hard drive NTFS, it has been able to mount the hard drive and the drive will appear on the desktop. I am able to read the disk, but cannot write , which is perfectly fine.

The problem occurs when I finally had to write my iMac on the hard drive, so I downloaded the paragon of Seagate and software of dashboard that were meant to allow a Mac write to the hard disk. However, after installation, everything went haywire and the hard drive would not rise again. Remove the seagate software wouldn't help.

My iMac still detect the drive when I plug the hard drive, but I can't mount the hard drive to use it. All I want is to be able to read the drive.

Anyone know how I can get my iMac to climb back from the hard disk NTFS?

    I'm on El Capitan 10.11.2.

Try to uninstall the "Seagate dashboard and paragon software" and restarting your iMac.
