Move catalog to new external drive

I'm trying to move a large catalog (including photos) on a larger external drive.  I have "supported" to drive a third.  And then "restored" to my new drive.  But when I gp at file > catalog and that it points to the folder where I placed the restored catalog, the button OPEN is not enabled.  I can't get PSE8 to open the new catalog.  Help, please

Thank you

The "restored" catalog appears in the folder when you go to file-> catalog and select the folder containing the catalog 'restored '?

What happens if you click once on the name of the catalog? The Open button becomes selectable then?

  • Movement music from itunes to a new external drive

    Hello!

So there are a lot of questions in the face of this general problem, but I found no one who comes close to my situation.

There are at present all music from my iTunes (~1.4 TB) library is shared between two external drives. I just bought a new laptop (3 TB) and would like to move - preferably not copy, I know that straight-up moving items between volumes is possible in the terminal, I don't know the right commands - all this music to the new drive. My iTunes Library.itl and the rest of the folder iTunes at the same time, are on my computer, I don't know if we keep them there or move them as well.

I use any file "iTunes Media. Most of my library is rips of CD and downloads without loss, and I prefer to keep the organized myself (as including scans of records covers music and writing notes and other information about the record such as comments). "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy the files into the iTunes Media folder when adding to library" is, therefore, both uncontrolled. And I think that naming a new file on the new drive as "iTunes Media" and then checking "Consolidate files" in the file > library > organize library to copy all the music she would keep the folder structure I created or transfer through the images, log files, PDF files, etc..

Can anyone advise on what would allow me to do this with a minimum of disruption to my iTunes library (IE not having to add all and recreate all my playlists, etc., which, in itself, would take another hours 20, or whatever on top of the amount of time it will take to move all files?)

    Thanks in advance!

    OS X 10.7.5 / iTunes 12.1.2.27

If you want iTunes to do the work (as expected), let iTunes do its work...    That would mean designate a location on the new drive for the iTunes Media folder (in the Advanced iTunes preferences pane) by using the command to "consolidate files" (-> library menu bar-> organize the library-> consolidate the files).

IF all your current iTunes media on the external drive files are on a SINGLE volume (not two), you can copy your folder structure complete (for your iTunes media files) to the new volume of external hard drive (using the Finder).  Then with iTunes works DO NOT, unplug the old external drive and rename the new external drive exactly the same name volume as the old volume of external drive.  Basically, do the new disc looks like the old drive to iTunes.  When you run iTunes, the "routes" to its multimedia files are the same as before, so iTunes sees no difference.

But since your iTunes media is 'shared between two external drives', you can't do it cleanly.  If a part is much more important, you could do the above with the majority only.  Now, at this point, you can use it in this way, with the new external drive as your main expansion of storage in course, and existing 'other' always connected player.  In iTunes, it seems again the same as before.

If you want that all your media files to iTunes on the new external drive...  Copy this second folder (with your smallest part of iTunes media) structure to the new external drive (using the Finder).  With iTunes doesn't work DO NOT, unplug the 'other' external drive.  When you run iTunes, it loses track of media files in this part (but keep those songs with exclamation point in the library).  This next part may or may not work.  When iTunes spot is no longer a song file, when you try to play it, iTunes will ask if you want to locate.  I heard that if you do this for a song (by pointing to the new location for this piece), iTunes can extrapolate the locations for the other files 'disappeared' of the song.  If it does not work with the first song (or partially works), try to do it for a little more.  Worst case, you will need to add the songs in the smaller part manually.

Can I move catalog Lightroom 4 C: drive to another drive? My C: drive is full on a nearly new HP Envy window 8

Yes, you would move the file catalog using your OS and then when its on the other disk, double-click it.

You probably to move your photos too, again make using your OS and keep the same folder structure, then plug back in Lightroom by following the instructions in this article (see Figure 4): http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder-old.htm

  • How can I move files from backup to backup of Vista on a new external drive?

I use Vista and have a few backup files made by the Vista Backup utility that is currently stored in a USB 2.0 external drive.

I bought a bigger external drive and I want to transfer data from the old disk to the new external drive and I tried:

    1. fixing of the external drive and select all (mediaid.bin incl.)-> copy / paste
2 copy data from the old disk on the desktop and then copy from the office to the new drive

Both disks are formatted as NTFS. It seems to transfer ok, but when I checked the data on the new external drive, it is much LESS than the data on the old disk (disk right click computer-> properties). I think that Vista is resistant to climb a backup of files. There was no error prompt.

Help, please. Why is this happening?

  • Lightroom - how to restore backed up files (not the Lightroom Catalog) from one external drive to another?

How to restore backed up files (not the lightroom catalog) from one external drive to another.

I've recently saved my photo files to one external drive to another. The backup (carbon copy clone) pointed out some files corrupt on the original drive.

I deleted these files and find good copies of Time Machine backups.

I want to get rid of the original external drive; use the recent backup as my main outside and then save it to a new disc.

I'm not sure how everything is point lightroom for backups so he knows look on the new drive instead of the old drive and all points of exclamation and question marks go away.

There are close to 60 000 images in several files with a 'parent folder."

My best guess is Lightroom Help - create and manage folders - locate missing files

Can I point to the folder of one of their parents, and all of the subfolders will return?

This is the process for recovering files in lightroom and there will be a problem with so many photos?

My C: drive is almost full, how can I move to my new hard drive F: programs to free up space on the C: drive?

    Hello

You can not move installed programs

you will need to uninstall them and reinstall them on your F: drive

    _____________________________________________________________________

    and read this;

see if this program helps you to determine what is take up space

    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_personal/

by default system restore will have up to 15% of the capacity of the hard disk

you would like to reduce this amount

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/76227-system-restore-disk-space.html

    http://www.vista4beginners.com/system-restore-space-used

    also use disk cleanup

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

The other Options tab is available when you choose to clean up the files of all users on the computer. This tab includes two additional ways to free disk space even more:

    • Programs and features. Open programs and features in Control Panel, where you can uninstall programs you no longer use. The column size in programs and features shows how much disk space each program uses.

    • System Restore and shadow copies. Guests delete you all but the most recent restore point on the disc.

    also scan for malware

Download update and scan with the free version of malwarebytes anti-malware

  • How to move pictures and the catalogue of a new external drive on a Mac?

I found this question several times and do not understand the answers.  I have all my photos and the catalog LR on an external HD.  I need to move to an external drive more.  I tried with the Finder, but when I try to open the catalog on the new disk the pictures do not show in LR even if they are on the disc.  In a few simple steps how to do this correctly?

Assuming that the new disk is writable,

    Open the catalog.

    Go to the folders Panel.

Do a "find missing" on the top-level folders so that LR will know where the files have been moved to.

  • I really just move to a new external hard drive

With the help of Mac Cougar and LR 4.3. I want to have everything on an external hard drive, but need to move now to a smaller drive to another bigger. How?

Probably the best way to go is to use the Finder to all move to the new HD, keeping the same folder tree structure, and then inside Lightroom reconnect (as explained here: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm)

UPDATE: I assume that when you say 'everything', you mean the photos and not the catalog file.

  • If you move files to an external drive in PSE 7, are these backup files when you catalog backup

My catalog is now about 50 GB and I want to decrease its size so that it takes up less space on my hard drive, and more important, so my backups and restorations do not take as long.    Files are not to be modified in the future then why keep saving them?  If I move the files on an external drive using files offline, copy/move files on the removable disk will be backup items these files as well as files on my C drive when I backup my catalog?

If not, can I move files to a new catalogue and catalogue of dangerous data (such as albums, tags, etc.)?

    Thanks for any help.

    function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

When restore you to the original location on the destination computer, the fact that restoring average the same path where the files were on the source computer?

    Yes, the exact same path.

    function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

I used this option once when I saved on my XP computer and restored to my Vista machine.  It took me a long time to get rid of extra files generated by Vista.

If you're moving from XP to Vista and your records are under C:\Documents and Settings\, Vista will create aliases to your user folders to maintain compatibility (since Vista has a different naming convention for the files of the user).  Vista itself will not create additional folders, but programs like the PES can be confused by having two different names for the same file.

    function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

I now store everything (files catalog and photos) in a folder with the same name under C:\ on both computers.

As long as it is not under C:\Documents And Settings, then use the original location option to restore to the same exact path.

The option new location / Restore Original Folder Structure will preserve your folder hierarchy, but create very long paths by adding in the root files, for example \users\ellis\pictures and it is difficult for many people to collapse these unnecessarily added files.

  • Movement of originals of external drives.  Is it really necessary to "match" the drive letters?

    Win XP SP3. 2 GB; LR 2.3

Main place of work is described above.  Laptop is Vista, 1.4 for the moment.

I'll upgrade the laptop to 2.3 now and add the .lrcat (today) much more from the desktop

to the laptop.  At the same time, we want to put all the originals on external drives and keep them there.

It is absolutely necessary to change the drive letters (desktop is K, laptop is F) to the same letters?

Or is there a way to deal with two different drive letters?  I am absolutely NOTHING of GOOD computer

    configuration and could spoil things.

Yes, I know I asked something like this before, but I hope a different answer (she said,

more in the hope of anticiptation...)

    Joia

You can keep your .lrcat on an external with the images and be able to move it back and forth between computers. There are many other combos that also works, but maybe you could explain a little more how you use catalogs and images.

  • installed V13 C:\ drive - old catalog v7 to external drive E:\.  Don't copy not to.

Today, I upgraded from v7 to v13.  When I tried to manage catalogs (Convert & rename), it seems that the catalog is empty (in v13).   I installed the upgrade program on my hard drive of the laptop (under can I 8.1) C:\.  My catalog (v7) is on an external drive E:\.

That's how the old v7 has been implemented also.

Should I have installed my external hard drive upgrade program?  Expected - this important?

    Any help much appreciated.

When you try to manage catalogs and convert them, you need to navigate to the location of the catalog folder on E: drive. The empty v13 catalog looks like by default created on C: during the installation process. To be sure, check "already converted catalogs" and use the "search other catalogues" button to navigate to the location of the catalog v7 tha on E:

To find the location of the catalog on E: folder, use v7 and the menu help/information system. Or use the Explorer to find a folder that contains the database file 'catalog.pse7db '.

This is how works the Organizer. The drive is not recognized only by the letter but also by the serial number of the drive. (The reason for this is that removable drives can change letter when it is plugged according to other devices already connected). That's why one of the tips more repeated during the replacement disks or computers is to use the backup/restore method.

Using Backup, Restore to move the catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later version

What can you do now? I guess you don't have the necessary full backup for this process.

    You can 'log' files:

    Photoshop elements (PSE) knowledge base.

It is not easy and a lot of time, generally.

Or you can copy your folder tree of photo to their original position on the F drive (except those newly imported). Who should reconnect everything.

Once reconnected, remove all the image on C files.

You can use the backup and restore method to recreate everything in your C: drive.

Or simply use the Organizer to bring back these files from F to C.

In the left panel of folders, you can drag and drop your folder from F to C tree (be patient for this copy). The files in the Organizer will not be cut.

  • Formatting a new external drive in El Capitan

After having had my Seagate Software go privatised after an upgrade of the OS or 2, manufacture of all my storage offline 'read only', I decided to buy a new drive, reformat for Mac and settle my archive of photos and movies.

I used the disk utility and tried to make the procedure of 'clear' as stated in help, but got the following error message:

MediaKit does not have enough space on the device for the requested operation.

    Operation failed...

I checked the site of Seagate (late, I admit it), and there is no help. It does not show the same version of disk utility as I. In the world of Seagate, it is not only a name and a format must be provided, but dieting - where I'm supposed to select GUID partition map.

I found info on the net stating that I have to change the partitions of the disk on a windows machine to ensure that all are at least 200 MB. The directions are all the command line on the PC, and even if I have an old PC sitting in the corner, I'm not thrilled to follow a procedure that I barely understand - I'm half afraid my machine configuration is different enough that I'll end up fouling my PC hard drive rather than the expected result.

All the tips are greatly appreciated.

You must partition the disk (probably a single partition) using Mac disk utility:

12.x disk utility: partition a drive

Tell us again (for clarity) where the PC fits in this situation.
