Move LUNS from physical Windows area to an ESX VM without formatting

Hello. I'll convert machines physical (with converter stand alone) in virtual machines on my ESX servers.

These servers have local drives (for the OS, the quorum and other data readers) as well as multiple LUNS.

First question:

My thoughts were to convert only local drives (jump the LUNS as they are already on the SAN). Then have the path of the SAN people (let me see) to my ESX servers. BIG draw back is that when I first plug a logic unit number, he wants to format. How can I connect to it and knew him ESX as store data without formatting? On the page [disk/LUN - formatting], there is no way NO format.

Second question:

When you allow an ESX box to see a logic unit number that uses a Windows box, there is assertion that ESX wouldn't let me even see. It happens just to expiry. Is anyway about this or what I was removing people SAN paths to my Windows boxes and then add first to my ESX boxes later?  The SAN is controlled by another agency and this would add a lot of time in the middle and these servers are critical and can not be down for long.

If anyone can provide fairly detailed steps I would really appreciate it.

(1) you can use these LUNS as RDM (raw device mapping), in which case you do NOT have to reformat them.  You just create a mapping of RDM.  See page 140 of this document: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_esx_server_config.pdf

(2) Windows will apply the locks to the volume.  You need service entirely volumes of old guests prior to commissioning for the new ESX hosts.

  • Can I move datadrives from a Windows 2003 server to a windows 2008 R2 enterprise server? Both servers are edge power Dell T610

We are migrating Server 2003 to 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition.  I have the OS loaded and ready. However, the Server 2003 has almost a 1 TB of data, that I just wanted to know if I can get the readers in the new server and everything would be ok. If readers present themselves as foreign, it can be fixed, but I'm worried how 2008 will see readers.

  • Why the focus of the fact move abruptly from one window (multi-onglet) to the other?

It is an intermittent problem, which I find hard to reproduce consistently. I'll be typing something into the google search field or just do a normal surf while the page is loading. Then all of a sudden the window will exchange for another. I usually have 3 + windows open at the same time (each with several tabs). The original window remains the same size: it is placed just behind the other window that gets the focus.

Should I try the Mode without failure of Firefox or reset? If so, it will take some time to solve the problem is difficult to reproduce.

Hi, the problem of joints to be caused by the latest version of the adobe flash plugin.
If you go to plugins and disable flash and then restart firefox on a google search, he's going to jump is no longer return to the search page, but page you click on will remain open.
Adobe flash is an important plugin, so a workaround or update must be found to solve this problem.

  • Why the recent updates to Windows are close my IBM ThinkPad without warning? Help, please!

Since I installed the latest Windows updates on my IBM ThinkPad (belongs to the office, one for me), the computers have decided to stop randomly without warning and without closing programs.  It happened first in the portable desktop computer and I tried a system restore, but it wouldn't.  Today, I installed on my computer but after I did a system restore.  I'll try that, but I guess that this will not help.  What can I do to get this to stop happening?   Is anyway to switch to Microsoft and tell them what is happening and have them repaired?

OK, removing the updates does not solve my problem, so reinstalled. I solved the breaks down by turning the bottom of my screen Hardware Acceleration 1 notch. Always try to understand the underlying cause.

  • Old computer is dead, HARD drive still alive. Can I install windows 7 on your new computer without formatting the old HARD drive?

My old desktop computer recently died of a motherboard failure.  As I understand it, I should be able to install windows 7 from my old computer to the new, but only if I delete the old installation.

Does this mean that I have to format the old HARD drive?  Because the old computer HARD drive seems to be alive, I would retrieve the data on a new machine first, before I have to format and I need to install windows on the new computer to get the data from the old HARD drive.

No, it is taken on trust that the old installation is no longer active, there is no mechanism to remove the old license in order to make a valid new. Remove the Windows directory (or rename) makes the old system inoperative.

You find that the automatic authentication fails on new construction and need to call the licensing Center to check that you have only one installation. Apart from the OEM rules if a license has been activated too often, and recently, it fails in a 1 time.
