Try to upgrade to El Capitan

I am running Snow Leopard on a Macbook in early 2008. I meet all the requirements for the upgrade to El Capitan, but the App Store said that I can not install on this computer. Any suggestions?

  • Upgrade to El Capitan has replaced the boot on Configuration partition dual boot

I've been using find for a dual-boot my Macbook Pro with OSX and Ubuntu.  Today, I decided to upgrade my OSX Yosemite to El Capitan.

After downloading all the 6G, which took about six hours, and the installation program, I received a prompt to restart my computer.  After that, and waiting more than 10 minutes staring at a blank screen, I pressed the power button, but nothing happened.  After doing this several times and get in trouble in the meantime, I pressed and held.  To my surprise the blank screen is having a background slightly shine completely black color.  Then, I realized that the computer was actually still on, and I interrupted probably something I shouldn't.

Then I turned on my computer, and instead of being presented to the screen where I choose which operating system to load, I got OSX loading screen with the Apple logo and progress bar.  After some time, the OSX installer appeared and told me that it would take 19 minutes to install OSX.  However, after a minute and a half, the installer left with the message:

OS X could not be installed on your computer

A partition of start-up assistance is required when working with the storage of carrots.

Exit Setup to restart your computer and try again.

Product restarts the same result, as described above.

Using the disk utility program, I see that I still have my Ubuntu partition, although not like OS X doesn't shows being available and has no information about it other than its size.

As a customer, I am pretty upset by this situation.

Why don't/that the installer should overwrite the MBR?  It's totally useless!  Why the installation program could not upgrade the OS that he treated and leave the rest alone computer?  If someone at Apple has not considered the possibility that some of their users will want to double to start their systems?

Why are there not warnings or other information displayed during the preparation phase indicating that this would happen?  Why me staring at a screen empty while something, probably important, took place in the background and leading me to believe that my computer had hung up?  Surely a window could have been displayed saying something like "do not turn off your computer.

Now that I have my setup porked, I need to recover from an old backup, get kind of rEFInd running again, back up my Ubuntu installation and probably delete the partition.  Then try to upgrade to El Capitan again after the download of an another 6G.  Once El Capitan is at work, I'll have to recreate the EXT4 partition and restore Ubuntu top and install rEFInd.  This seems to be an arrangement rather STUPID having to cross in 2016.

Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, advice on how to get all this done effectively?

Well, it seems that the recovery of my Time Machine backup is not so simple...

In the setup of OS X, utilities disk is available, so I ran it.

I've selected the partition where OS X is installed and choose the editing command-> restore from the menu, and then set the "restore from:' location to my partition backup (located on an external USB drive) and press ."

This produces a message saying "restore process has failed. Press OK to continue.  (Continue where?)

After the upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.5 shift, Alt and command of my keyboard keys started to act arbitrarily, they are suspended and do not work properly (I already tried several keyboards and is not Firefox or Chrome). This behavior is exacerbated in Illustrator CC, but also affect all programs and even my office. It drives me crazy, does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Mi IMac is a 27-inch, late 2013, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, and use a Wacom Intuos Pro.

Could possibly be interfering with the entry Wacom drivers.

Start safe mode and see if there are still have the problem there. Safe mode is slow and some things do not work, but it prevents some third-party boot loading software. If your keyboard works properly in Mode without fail, this would imply that some third-party software is causing the problem. If so, check the updates.

It also takes more time to start because the BONE is clean some system caches that can also help.

  • Recently upgraded to El Capitan, I had that problem for Mail stop unexpectedly when I saw some posts.  I followed the steps and was able to remove the trouble messages.   Now I can't restore the mail window message viewer component.

Recently upgraded to El Capitan, I had that problem for Mail stop unexpectedly when I saw some posts.  I followed the steps and was able to remove the trouble messages.   Now I can't restore the mail window message viewer component.  When I try to catch the separator bar to go back to the left, only half of the small arrow icon and line appears, and it cannot be moved.   Can open the message by double clicking a message viewer.

    Hi there, alicefrompa!

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. From your post, I understand that you do not see the Message Viewer box which allows you to read your e-mails; only see you the Inbox that includes a brief overview of the message and are unable to restore access using the separator bars. I have had this happen to my own Mail app and am happy to let you know how I could fix!

You are really on the right track - you want to roll your mouse over the divider between the Inbox and sections Message Viewer (which should now be on the extreme right edge of your mail window) and drag it to the left.  When you click on the receipt/Message Viewer box, the cursor turns into a line continuous black with a single arrow pointing to the left. When you see the cursor change, click with the left button of the mouse and (while holding down the mouse button in) drag the combination line / arrow to the left. You may need to drag a little further than before to get it. I had to hang mine almost completely in the middle of my Mail app before the display of the message box appeared.

From there, you should be able to adjust the boxes to your widths you want as expected.

If you are still not able to get the display of the messages visible after have try this, here are a few more things that you can do.

    1. Press command + O on your keyboard.
    2. Exit the Mail application, and then press on and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard while reopening.
    3. Restart your Mac by selecting the menu  Apple in the upper right of your screen restart from the menu drop down.

  • tried to upgrade to el capitan of lion but I get this message: INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE

I have an IMAC mid-2010 and tried to upgrade to el capitan of lion [software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)] but I get this message: INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE

How to solve this.  I think that's what keeps me to sync my iPhone 6 and IPAD PRO I got the year last, and 1 month ago, respectively, with the iMac. I tried to download iTunes separately, but it does not work. Memory is 1 t, processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3. Memory DDR3 at 1333 MHz 12 GB

Make sure your time and date is correct.  If this is not the case, correct it and try the install again.

Remove anti-virus, anti-malware or module security or performance or system cleanup tools according to the instructions of the respective providers.   Try again.

If this fails, restart the iMac by Safe Mode like which clears and regenerates the system puts in cache, among other details, reboot normally and see if the Mac App Store download starts working.   Then re-download the installer of El Capitan, and then try again.

If all else fails, please after the release of Etrecheck as a starting point - which will indicate the specific hardware configuration nd can show if there is something wonky openly what is installed.

  • Upgrade to El Capitan and Win10

    Hello

I have an iMac that has Yosemite and Windows 7. I use Parallels desktop 9. (But the windows partition is loaded through bootcamp)

I get the message that windows free 10 ends soon.

So I think upgrade to El Capitan and Windows 10.

So I had to buy Parallels 11 to use the two new operating systems. (because 9 does not work with either)

Here are the steps I take to do all three upgrades? I want to assure you that I am not missing something (steps):

    1. put on level 9 to 11 parallels

    2. upgrade to El Capitan

    3. connect via bootcamp and upgrade to Windows 7 to 10

    4. restart Windows mac and link 10 partition in parallels.

Upgrades of the OS are big and not easily reversed, so I don't want to make a mistake.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

Avoid errors or problems with the updates of the first execution of a bootable backup of what you have that works. I suggest the following:

Restart the computer after the ring, press in and hold the Command and R keys until appears the Menu Utility.

    1. Select utility disk in the main menu and then press the continue button.

    2. Select the destination volume in the list on the left.

    3. click on the tab restore in the main window of disk utility.

    4. Select the destination volume in the left list and then drag it to the Destination field.

    5. Select the volume of the source of the list on the left and drag it to the Source input field.

    6. check understood you, and then click Restore.

Destination designates the external backup drive. Source means that the boot disk internal.

Regarding the Parallels just upgrade the software and verify that your Windows system still works. You cannot proceed with the upgrade of OS X. Look this first: basic steps for the OS X upgrade.

You can update Windows from Parallels. It is useless to try to boot from the installation of Boot Camp. In addition, you must first remove some components of Parallels on your Windows system to start independently.

  • Import old box Inbox and sent in the Mail after upgrading to El Capitan

There has been much discussion about the e-mails lost after upgrade to El Capitan, but I have not seen this particular question.

I discovered that, like many others, all emails in my Inbox and in my sent folder to leave before the upgrade had disappeared. The issue has not affected the emails I had moved to folders.

Open the mail library file (in the Finder, hold down the Option key selecting go to the top menu and the library appears), I discovered that Mail was created a new file V2, account, while the old one, V3 (created in 2013), sitting next to her. Go by the size files, it seems fair to assume that the V3 still contains my "lost" emails

So, I don't know if the bug is that a new V2 should have been created at all, or is it a sync error, or something else. What I know is that when I try to import the items from Inbox and sent from the V3, I get an error message telling me that no mbox valid was found. This is patently false.

I also tried to copy on an external hard drive, gave them a different name, but even then I couldn't import them. Reconstruction did not help either.

Anyone able to help? I have a few crucial e-mails out there, and I try to avoid the upgrade...
