Move vc db server to another cluster

I need to move my VC DB server to another cluster (VC is on another server, it is simply running SQL).  Cluster processors are incompatible so migration won't work.  I think that using the converter would be the way to go.  How I got on moving the virtual machine?  I have to install the converter locally on the virtual machine and to do a conversion with the target server as a host in the cluster of others?

All systems are vSphere 4.1

Thank you

Mike

Yes, sometimes I seem more complicated things simple.  Assuming that you have shared storage between the host ESX (i) source and destination ESX (i), which will be a very quick and easy solution.

  • [Recovery] Move the Essbase server to another physical server

    Hi all

I have 3 part of EMP 11.1.2.1 Solaris Server environment:

    Server1.company.com:

    • Foundation, APS, EAS services

    Server2.company.com:

    • Essbase, Essbase Studio Server.
    • Installation on a SAN using Userid hypadmin drive

    Server3.company.com:

    • *Nothing installed here *.
    • His case Server2 breaks down, the standby server.

Note: I couldn't find documentation for my approach below... So please understand the risk involved before trying the same thing.
    Prior to disaster:

    • I copy the base directory of hypadmin to Server2 to Server3.

    During disaster recovery:

    • I update the host name Essbase server from Server2.company.com to Server3.company.com and similarly update the opmn.xml file.
    • Finally, mount the SAN on Server2, and start the services.

Anyone has done the same... ? Have been facing problems? Is there a better way to do this?

    Thank you

    Hello

I think that the usual way to proceed is to have a DR environment, rather than a single server (so for you, you would have 2dr servers). DR environment has entries from the hosts file to map the host names of Production at the addresses IP of DR.

The RD you are connected to a separate instance of SQL and you install and configure products exactly as you would for Production (exactly the same names).

Finally when you are finished you stop the DR environment and on newspapers SQL data bases of Production and DR.

If your Production environment breaks down you stop SQL log shipping, then you can bring up DR and change (if necessary) DNS names to give access to your users.

For the storage of Essbase you can save Production to DR cubes or mount SAN Production DR. The only problem with it is that if Production falls down and the SAN is lost, you cannot bring up DR entirely or the other.

Let me know if you still have any questions.

  • VMDK moving from one server to another

We have a server ESXi free vSphere 4 a third device that uses of 200 GB of hard drive space.  We must move from this server to another server ESXi 4 only 130 GB of free space.  So my question is how to move and how reduce us it?

We have a company of vSphere 4.1 license, so we have converter but that would work in this case since niether the source or destination servers are allowed?

    Hello

You can use stand-alone Vmware converter to migrate the virtual machine to an ESXi host to another host ESXi. During this process,.

You can play with the size of vmdk. You can go to advance tab and increase or decrease the size of vmdk, add another vmdk and move the partition to an another vmdk etc...

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • How to move the virtual machine from one cluster to another cluster

How to move the virtual machine from one cluster to another cluster

If two Clusters are in the same data center, you could do a 'live' migration or vMotion, if that's the case.   If the virtual machine is turned off, it may be migrated regardless of the data center.

  • What is the process to move the VCenter SQL DB from one server to another?

I read the threads for the displacement of vCenter Server and it's local database from one server to another. My situation is a little different.

VirtualCenter Server 2.5 build 174768 has it's SQL database on another server.  We're going to retire that SQL server only and move just the DB to a new SQL Server - current vCenter server will not be affected.

I'm trying to figure out how knowledge current vCenter once used SQL server (DCMNMSSQL02) DB is now on the server DCMSQL07 - which all on stays of DB.

    Hello.

You must update the DSN on the server vCenter.  See the article kb 7960893 for more information.

  • Relocation of vCenter Server to another domain

    Here's the situation:

I have a 2 vCenter 4.0 update server that I need to join another AD area, which is located in another forest with no trust relationship.  I also need to move my vCenter 2008 the SQL server to the new domain.  In short, so I need to move a vCenter server and SQL server field ABC to XYZ area.  The two servers running Windows 2008 R2.

Should what order I move these servers to the new domain?

What and in what order should I fill out to do this?

I know that I will have to recreate my accounts of service in the new domain and change my ODBC connections.

What about ESX hosts?  There are 3 hosts in a cluster.  They should all be moved to the new domain as well.

Anyone have any suggestions to help me do this? Point of departure?  Thank you!!

Okay, that's easy.  Remove from the old domain, restart.  Add to the new domain, reboot.

    Piece of cake.

What and in what order should I fill out to do this?

Use SQL authentication because Windows will not work if the 2 domains are not approved

What about ESX hosts? There are 3 hosts in a cluster. They should all be moved to the new domain as well.

NOPE.  ESX are not joined to a domain.  Change areas is one thing, changing IP is quite another.  If they are STILL accessible by the intellectual property after the domain change, then nothing else to do with ESX.

  • How do I remove, rename, or move files or folders in another program, that I can't find?

Im running Windows 7 Ultimate edition. What should I do to solve this problem: too often, when I try to delete, rename or move a file/s or folder/s so on my desktop, documents, library, or anywhere with a typical, it should create a custom folder, I get an error message telling me that I can not remove this file or folder because it is open in another program. It drives me crazy because I don't know what the heck, or when the devil this folder doesn't exist anywhere else on my laptop. I tried to look for programs and files to determine if there are duplicate areas where the file can share with another path, but nothing. I also looked at the properties of the file/folder, but it does show me nothing relevant, even if I uncheck the read-only box. I am the only user/administrator of my laptop. I created a profile of the privileged administrator I use only, nothing else. I run a home network with 5 computers and treat various problems in the past, but this problem started recently, after I upgraded my network of Windstream modem 4220 + linksys wrt600n to Windstream wireless all-in-one router. The new router was a piece of * so I've not unhooked it and reiinstalled my original Windstream modem 4220 + linksys wrt600n devices. I had a few problems, but everything is now back to how it was. I can only think that this may have something to do with the share on the network? Correct me if I'm wrong (please), but there seems to be too many titles listed under users? It's whats listed under users: administrator, Classic .NET AppPool, default, default AppPool, (my username) and Public. In any case, please help % @#! I think I may be fubar had my network configuration after uninstallation and reinstallation of the windstream (local phone/internet provider) facilities and added a printer wireless capability (which does not). and may have caused the problem that I can't delete, rename or move files or folders in another program, that I can't find? If yes or else, HELP!

When you have the problem that happens, open the Task Manager.
Then, you can view the processes that are open and see if the program or file is open by another process. If so, then select end task.
Then return to Windows Explorer and see if you can remove the file now.

You may also be able to delete the file in Mode without failure.
    To access Safe Mode:
    (a) restart your computer and start pressing F8 on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to start to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
    (b) select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and press ENTER.
    (c) when the boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.

If you run a Web server, you can see the AppPool under users.

An application pool is a group of one or more URLS served by a worker process or a set of worker processes. Application pools define limits for the applications they contain, which means that all the applications that are running outside of a given application pool does not affect applications in the application pool.

Hope this has helped answer your questions.

If the storage where the vCenter VM is shared between two hosts, you can perform a vMotion and the VC will work as it was when it was running on host 1.

  • Copy a virtual to an ESXi 5 server to another

I have a couple of virtual running on a server ESXi 5. Hard drives can be at fault on this server. So I want to copy virtual methods another ESXi server.

It seems to me that the stand-alone converter * movements * virtual, right? I would like to copy virtual methods, if I can. It gives me an extra copy to return to "just in case".

The stand-alone converter is quite slow. Someone told me that the fact that is uses the HTTPS protocol may be the reason.

What the easiest fastest way to copy a virtual from one server to another without causing problems to the servers or workstations that is members of the domain? I don't want to confuse my domain controller by the presence of a member server or a computer change its GUID (I think).

    Thank you very much.

    Mike Gallery

The converter creates a copy of the virtual machine, i.e. don't touch not the machine virtual original, that's what you use. If you use the Converter server and you convert within a secure network, you can disable SSL (see VMware KB: disabling on VMware Converter Standalone 5.x SSL encryption) to increase performance. The target will get a new UUID and MAC address. However that shouldn't cause problems with membership to the domain that the guest OS has been identified in the area of his computer account/SID who have touched.

The first shot must also have a data store setting.

    Move-VM -VM $vm -Destination $NewHost -Datastore $ds -Confirm:$falseMove-VM -VM $vm -Destination $ResourcePool -Confirm:$false

Unless your data warehouses are shared between the 2 groups and you intend to keep these warehouses of data with the new cluster.

  • How to move a virtual machine to another store of data on the same host

    Hello

I have a single ESX4 host with 3 data warehouses and I need to move a virtual machine to another data store, how can I do that since I don't have the ability to migrate the virtual machine when I am connected directly to the client with vSphere host and I do not have a server vCenter also?

    Thanks, Julien

    Hello

    Yes, you can use #vmkfstools-i /vmfs/volumes/datastore/VM/VM.vmdk /vmfs/volumes/datastore/VM1/VM1.vmdk

For the record, the data store must be shared if you copy of VM and VM must be turned off. In the above command you copy VM.vmdk to VM1.vmdk and add the newly created with this existing VMDK VM.
