Move virtual machines between networks

I have a new Esxi Server works with two NICs a connected to a15.x network range and the other a network 100.x. I did the management of the network 100.x network and can connect to it very well. The new virtual machine install on the 15.x (as it is the only one available during the installation of vm) but I need to have one of these virtual machines on the network. 100.x is possible that I can simply move the virtual machine to the new network or modify the installation to the network 100.x if I need.

You must create a new virtual machine network as you did for the first, assign the VLAN ID of your management network, in this way, you can add a virtual machine on two segments.

make sense?

If you have shared storage - expose the storahe where virtual machines are stored to both sets of guests - and the hosts are ocmpatible you can vmotion - or at least - to stop the mover VM's from the environment of the UCS and add it to the HP environment.

    Hello

I'm obviously new and I work with a laboratory ESXI, I test the NFS and ISCSI storage, networking and other things... everything seems to work as it should, but...

When I create new virtual machines, all of them are attached to the default vswitch, autocrat I created 5 VM debian and 3 vswitches (because my ESXI has 4 network cards). Is it possible to connect, say, 2 vmshitch1 and 3 vswitch 2? or I'm missing some fundamental concept of networking? Is it still possible?

  • Moving virtual machines between ESX environments

    Hello-

I understand that when you try to move a virtual machine between two servers to ESX 3.5 disparate, one way to proceed is to use WinSCP to move the files to the machine and then 'register' the machine via the data store on the destination ESX navigation area.  I also read, however, that this practice may not be wise because it is better to execute a command to import, I think that vmkfsutil or something similar to this.  Hope to find confirmation on what would be the best practice in this scenario.

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Put a host in maintenance - it will automatically move virtual machines?

    Dear all,

We have a cluster with 4 guests and we would now like to upgrade each 5.50 to 6.0 ESXi ESXi host. I understand that we need to put the host in maintenance mode. He will automatically move virtual machines to other hosts? I read DRS is necessary. I see that our guests are permitted for Vmotion and HA. We have standard Vsphere license.

This means in our case, I would need to move manually first of all VMs before the host can go into maintenance mode? In the case where the Vsphere will make work, the virtual machines automatically distributing to 3 other hosts according to the resources available?

    Thank you

    Edy

This means in our case, I would need to move manually first of all VMs before the host can go into maintenance mode?

Yes, since the Standard edition doesn't include DRS, you must manually move virtual machines to other hosts.

In the case where the Vsphere will make work, the virtual machines automatically distributing to 3 other hosts according to the resources available?

Yes, this would be the case with the DRS in place.

  • Replicate a virtual machine between an Intel host computer and an AMD

Does anyone has experiences with using vSphere replication to replicate a virtual machine between Intel server cluster and a cluster of servers AMD?

I asked myself this question the other day and unfortunately I have Intel hosts in my lab to test/demo so can not perform checks...

I know that the only safe way to migrate a virtual machine from one host to Intel to a host of AMD is to use migration cold (ie the power off of the virtual computer), but that also applies if you use replication as a tool of "migration."

I am aware vSphere replication can occur only if the source THAT VM is turned on, as it will make a copy of the initial/seed and then use CBT for replication of the changes... but because the goal of VM is turned off, I am correct in assuming that it is a form of "cold migration"?

It works with the solution of Veem replication with VMware hosts.

    Reference:replication requirements. See the topic

It seems to even work with Hyper V - replica.

Hyper-V R2 2012 replica from INTEL to AMD? -Spiceworks

In my view, this works for vSphere same replication as well. However, I will stay here with confirmation.

  • Best method to move virtual machines Linux of VC 2.5/ESX 3.5 to 4.0/ESX4 vCentre

    Guys,

I have to move a number of them. The two groups are there. If it is not a question about the upgrade of the VC/ESX. I want to use the simplest method possible to move these VMs and here's my plan:

1 copy the whole directory of VM from the data store on VC 2.5 to the data store on vCentre 4.

    2. Add the virtual machine to inventory in vCentre 4.

    3. upgrade VMware tools

    4. switch to hardware version 7.

And that's all. Please let me know if this plan is feasible, or more importantly, no holes in the plan.

    Thank you

    Hello

    You have a few options:

    1. you can bring up the old data store for ESX 4.x and save the VM on vCenter 4.0.

    2. you can add that the host ESX to vCenter 4.0 3.5 move virtual machines in ESX 4.0 cluster.  You can use vMotion and Storage vMotion, according to your needs.

    3. you can use the stand-alone converter to make a hot cloning of Linux virtual machines in ESX 4.0.

    Best wishes / Saludos

  • Is it possible to migrate a virtual machine between vcenter servers programmatically?

    Hi all

    My question is quite simple:

-Is it possible to migrate a virtual machine between vcenter servers programmatically?

Let's say we have two data centers:

    vcenter1

    -vm1

    -vm2

    vcenter2

    -vm3

Is it possible to migrate vms between vcenter2 and vcenter1 programmatically? (or vice versa)?

Also, I'm assuming that the appropriate VLAN and data warehouses across the different vcenters!

    Thank you

    Luis

It is not possible, vMotion or migration live is in an instance of vCenter, it cannot be covered through two even if you have the data store accessible both vCenters and sets of the host. At best, you can unregister the virtual machine of vCenter 1 host and re-save as on vCenter 2 host, but once again, it is while the virtual machine is turned off.

  • Migrate a template or a virtual machine between Sites

Hi, I have a number of virtual machines created in a UAT environment. I can convert these VMs to models OR leave it as what.

The requirement is to migrate the models to other sites. There is network connectivity between sites, but this is a separate system of SAN. There are the servers in each site that can be used to point to one common share, i.e. a dump file area.

Via vCenter, I can't see a mechanism to export a model/VM in the OVF format and via the plugin Converter it seems possible to save files to the virtual machine on the disk, but the format of the workstation. In addition, the OVF tool seems to complicated for our needs.

What process is preferable to move machines between sites - I need the process to be simple as possible.

    Thank you

good things!  I'm glad that you have built it.

  • move virtual machine data store

    Installation program:

    VCenter 4.1

    ESXi 4.1

How can I move a VM between groups with non-shared data warehouses managed by vcenter even. I can turn off the virtual machine, but storage vmotion will not work as long as data warehouses are not shared between clusters.

    Thank you

voltage of a virtual computer is not storage vMotion.  If you can take the dowtime, the easisest way.  When the host is turned off, select migrate, you can then ' change time host and the data store.
