Movie Maker: can not make dvd, unspecified error

I made a holidaymovie with Windows Movie Maker 6.0, working with Vista Ultimate SP2 on a laptop Acer Aspire 9420. Got more memory (4 GB RAM). It has 20 GB free and the D-disk 40 GB of free space on my C drive. The original camera film is on an external hard drive. (Do not know if these things are important, but just in case...)

I made a movie (68 minutes), I put the music on it and added some effects. Now I want to burn it to DVD + R (4.7 GB), but it does not work. An error message appears when the encoding (I don't know if it's the right translation in Dutch, it's "coderen") is 13.6%. The error message says: "can not make DVD, unspecified error. '
The last time when I did a movie, I had the same problem and I solved it by cutting the movie in 2 parts. And I did the first piece gradually larger and at the end I managed to get the movie on a DVD.
Now, I tried the same thing, but when I tried to burn the first part (34 minutes) on a dvd, the same error message is displayed, but now, at 27% (approximately).

I already cleaned my computer, while I have more memory space. Last time, I changed the virtual memory, but that did not work.
Who can help me?

Some people have suggested it might be a problem with the Codecs.

To see if there is problem with Codecs load MOVIE Maker and go to the tools /.

Options / tab to check codec compatibility.   Do not delete the AVI file

Compressor, at least not until you've tried without the other Codecs first.

Windows Movie Maker and DVD Maker have enough similarities to make these interesting to read.  DVD Maker could actually be more tolerant and not so much, crash if you are able to use as an alternative?

When recording to the DVD format, you can get about 120 minutes of video on a DVD and approximately 240 minutes of

You might need to equivalent or even a little more an amount of free space on your hard drive to serve as a working

    Hello

    ·        Have you been able to import before avi files to your Windows movie maker and the creation of DVD?

    ·        You are able to import another file without any problem format?

Try to import another file type (format) and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Damaged codec is often a cause of crashes with Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker.

If possible, use a program to convert your Windows Media movies first and then try to import it.

    Step 2:

If the movie maker was working properly before, I suggest you to reset the windows movie maker settings. Follow the steps in the article mentioned below.

    Try again in Safe Mode.

What you are running for an anti-virus? If it's anything other than Microsoft Security Essentials, you may need to temporarily disable.

If this does not work, you can run it in Mode safe mode with command prompt. Once the command window appears. type %systemroot%\system32\rstrui.exe and press ENTER. The system restore GUI will go up, and you can restore to the date / time selected, or select a time different everything such as running Windows.

You are running Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton or McAfee?
If you run one of those, she didn't have Defender. It's
good, not bad. Not only is there potential conflict, but there is no
reason to have both; essentially, they have something very similar
for the Defender integrated and running both at once will hurt your
performance and create the risk of problems that are contrary to each
    others.

  • Windows Movie Maker DVD will not play in my DVD of Emerson drive

Burned DVD won't play in my dvd player. I worked on it for three days. I burned a movie on a dvd + rw disc. The film will play on my computer but won't play in my dvd player. I get "Disk error" on the screen and the disc may not have playback function. What is the function of reading and how I can change my download? I lived all the concepts of self-help, but none of them fit to my problem. I have Windows Vista Premium and have tried using Windows DVD Maker. I called the manufacturer of my drive and they said I need to finalize the disc. How can I do to do this with Windows DVD MAKER?  I read articles about video editing, but when I went through the steps that I wasn't even offered the possibility to publish the video. My brother uses the same discs when burning movies and I have no problem playing his films. What I am doing wrong?

    Hi BrookeMcCulley,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

On some of the DVD player, you will not be able to play DVD + RW discs.  You will need to use DVD + r (read DVD) drive and check if it works.

You can also try to use another brand of DVD disc and check.

  • Using Windows Movie Maker on the error message XP__ not indexed _ bad quality

I use Windows Movie Maker XP (version 2.1?).  I've converted and imported a lot of videos.  I have a group of short videos recorded the same day.  I (with free STROKE) converted to AVI and they play with no audio and several play accelerated.  I've then diverted to ASF and some of them imported correctly.  Most of them gave me an error message that they were not indexed.  I downloaded several things to remedy this from online forums: I uninstalled K-Lite pack codec, Expression Encoder 4, WinDVR AVI, DivFix, lame and a number of things.  That's a family movie, I spent a lot of time on it.  If anyone can help with my old hardware and software configuration at this point I'd appreciate it.  The original film seems to be of much better quality than what I am able to import.  Thank you!

The most reliable video format for Movie Maker is. WMV.

No guarantee... but the following freeware converter
    may be worth a try:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Sothink Free Video Converter
    http://www.Sothinkmedia.com/video-converter/
    (Windows XP / Vista / 7)

You will need to unzip the file... or you could just drag
the Setup.exe from the file out of the folder and drop it on your
    desktop and install from there.

Once installed... Open Sothink and go to... Add the files button...
Find and select the clips you want to convert.

Next... in the encoding settings... Choose... Video credits.
WMV - Windows Media Video (*.wmv).

Choose an output folder and on the left, click on the button convert.

You can experiment with other settings later but
This should help you get started.

    Good luck...

  • Cannot create an excerpt from the DVD - unspecified error. What can I do?

    Hello

    ·         Were there any changes made to your computer until the problem occurred?

    ·         What version of Windows is installed on your computer?

I suggest you to follow a few troubleshooting steps and check if that help in the issue of the attachment on your computer.

    Method 1:

Try to change Windows DVD Maker DVD-Video settings and check.

    Method 2:

    Method 3:

    Clean boot your computer performance.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as Normal mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Method 4:

Try to perform a SFC scan on your computer and check to see if that fixes the problem on your computer.

Click on the link below and follow the instructions in the article.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use / scannow command from the command prompt.

    Note:

    ·         You must be logged on as administrator to run sfc.

    ·         /scannow: Scans all protected system files immediately.

    ·         If sfc detects that a protected file has been replaced, it retrieves the correct version of the file from the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder, and then replaces the incorrect file.

If the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder is corrupt or unusable, use sfc/scannowto repair the contents of the Dllcache directory.
