Movie Maker concern

I have SP3 installed and every time I use my Movie Maker and try to import audio or music I get this notification: could not be imported. The selected file is not valid or is corrupted. But works with another pc. Thanks, hope I get a response soon.

Try to open Movie Maker and go... Tools / Options / Compatibility tab and left
Click the restore all default settings / OK.

Try to re-import the file.

If the problem persists, you may need to convert the music files in the WMA format.

  • Windows Movie Maker DVD will not play in my DVD of Emerson drive

Burned DVD won't play in my dvd player. I worked on it for three days. I burned a movie on a dvd + rw disc. The film will play on my computer but won't play in my dvd player. I get "Disk error" on the screen and the disc may not have playback function. What is the function of reading and how I can change my download? I lived all the concepts of self-help, but none of them fit to my problem. I have Windows Vista Premium and have tried using Windows DVD Maker. I called the manufacturer of my drive and they said I need to finalize the disc. How can I do to do this with Windows DVD MAKER?  I read articles about video editing, but when I went through the steps that I wasn't even offered the possibility to publish the video. My brother uses the same discs when burning movies and I have no problem playing his films. What I am doing wrong?

    Hi BrookeMcCulley,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

On some of the DVD player, you will not be able to play DVD + RW discs.  You will need to use DVD + r (read DVD) drive and check if it works.

You can also try to use another brand of DVD disc and check.

  • Windows Movie Maker, add narration and music?

Im trying to add music to the background of my video, but I also need narration. It seems as if I have only one or the other, and the only way to have 2 audio tracks is to use audio that comes with the video file and then have EITHER music OR narration. How can I have all 3?

    Hi weeksma,

In Windows Movie Maker, it is not possible to add music and narration to the time in a video but as a work-around, try this:

    Step 1

    (1) open a new project in Movie Maker.
    (2) add your videos to the script/storyboard.
    (3) add audio recordings (narration clips) in the timeline panel.
    (4) making adjustments to the video and soundtrack.
    (5) export the video file.

    Add narration to your movie

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/add-narration-to-your-movie

    Step 2

    (1) then open a new a Movie maker project.
    (2) import the exported video.
    (3) add the music to the timeline.
    (4) set the volume on the left side of the timeline in the pan the audio or music.
    (5) export video.

    Add music to your movie

  • Windows Movie Maker - music is not playing little matter what I do

I'm making a movie for my best friend for her birthday. I'm trying to use some of our favorite songs as background music. I'm going to and upload music and it is important, but when I put it in the movie and I play it, no music plays. I know that the film plays because my images in the film show the way they are supposed to. The volume on my computer is in place, and I went through all the audio levels and volume. I went upstairs, hit the clip and have a level of hihgh audio in the editing mode, I hit chronology and went to sound levels, and it is up. I even checked the properties of the songs I am trying to use, and they present themselves as a .mp3. When I went on google and other things to see what could be the problem, a page said that even if the music is in .mp3 form and other forms that work with Windows Movie Maker, they can simply not work. However, some of the songs I am using, I have used in other films I've done, and they do not work yet. So I don't understand what the problem is, and I've checked everything. Is there something that I don't check? Help, please! I really need to solve this problem, because I use movie maker for both school projects, and this movie would be amazing as a birthday gift.

    Hi monkeygurlsurfs,

If you get the sound from your pc in other programs, the problem is not hardware. Did you of updates or Windows updates or any software installed since the last time that your audio worked? Usually, if the audio doesn't work, is it a device driver conflict. Make sure you have the updated driver for your sound card from the manufacturer's website. Also, check your device manager to see if the audio device appears normal (no yellow exclamation point). You can try to perform a check of the filesystem (CFS) to see if there are any corrupt files that Windows can correct:

    The System File Checker tool:

To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

1 click on Start -> click on all programs -> click on Accessories -> - click on command prompt, Select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue.

    2. at the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow .

    3. when the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

If the problem you are experiencing started occurring recently, you can use the System Restore tool. Using this tool, you can restore the computer to an earlier point in time. The tool using System Restore may not necessarily help you determine the problem. When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. click on Start, type System Restore in the Search box, and then click System Restore in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on Finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

Try these procedures and let us know how you do. If you're still having problems, we will be happy to help you further.

It would be better that you stay in the original thread with this
subject... creating multiple threads can become complicated and
    source of confusion.

Based on your description... I don't think that your files are 'in '.
Movie Maker... I think that the file associations have been modified.

If you change the file associations for the photos (specifically the)
concerned formats... I'm guessing your photos are JPG) back
the program normally show (photo library)
everything should be OK.  And... FWIW... which will not affect how
your new system considers the files.

  • Windows Movie Maker 6.0

Windows Movie Maker 6.0 play to halfway through with no sound and no video. Trying to play. WMV file.

    Operating system: Windows Vista.

    Hello

    ·          The problem occurs with all the files?

    ·          Are there players to third party (such as Real Player, VLC player) installed on the computer?

Step 1: If you have any third-party players installed, then uninstall these programs and check if it makes a difference.

Step 2: If you have problems that could be associated with video and audio filters not installed by Windows Movie Maker, you can try to turn video filters off in Windows Movie Maker. Turn off the video and audio filters only concerns how they are used (or, in this case, not used) in Windows Movie Maker, so they can still be used by other video and audio programs. To enable or disable filters or to restore the default list of filters, follow these steps:

    a. click Tools and then click Options.

    b. click on the Compatibility tab.

    c. do one of the following:

    ·         To turn off a filter, clear the check box next to the name of the video filter.

    ·         To activate a filter, select the check box next to the name of the video filter.

    ·         To restore the default list, click on restore all default values.

When you restore the default settings, the list and the filters settings are given to the last known good setting.
