  • Msconfig vs services.msc in win7

I was then trying to decide if I should use config to control my start-up, start-up deactivation etc, or is it better to use services.msc? What's the difference/consequences of both.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Ken

Services.msc may only provide the access to the services. However, MSCONFIG gives you access to programs from startup, boot options and services also. I suggest that use you MSCONFIG to control your desktop.

    Hello

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities. I understand that you are unable to open msconfig on the computer.

I understand how it could be frustrating when things do not work as expected. Please, I beg you, don't worry I'll try my best to resolve the issue.

    1. what operating system is installed on your computer?

    2. have there been recent changes to the computer before the show?

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Rof the United Nations [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer that would be a search for system files corrupted on the computer and replace them.

For Windows 7 and Vista: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    For Windows XP: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

Method 2:  Also try to scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Please follow these recommended steps and post if you still experience the problem.

  • HP EliteBook 8440p: royal screwup MSCONFIG

I installed a new hard drive and 8 MB (2 x 4) memory in the laptop yesterday. I did a restore of full image with Macrium and everything was perfect.

Noticed that only 2. something MB of RAM was usable and went online to find out how to configure the system to recognize the rest of the 8 MB available. I stupidly tried the following, found on Microsoft Web:

    MSCONFIG

    Advanced

    Boot

Click to uncheck the maximum memory , and then click OK.

    Restart

Well, I seem to have walled up about all the computer with this force stupid trick. When I tried to reboot Windows would not load.

Worse yet, I can't get the bootable rescue of Macrium Reflect disk to load that I can restore the system to before I did the MSCONFIG.

Anyone know how I can get this back operational system? I really need instructions at this stage. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This usually means that hangs way too safe. I remove the new memory, replace it with the original and try to start Macrium to see if it works. Or first try msconfig Mode safe mode with original memory.

There may be no problem that many Services start and stop on request so everything can be normal.

Start - type in the search box-> control of the superior and right click on - RUN AS ADMIN.

Or Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Control Services.

Thing IS - XP does not.  If I click on it, directly from the folder above, it starts and runs like a dream. If I go to start/run and type in msconfig, it tells me that it can't find it.

  • MSCONFIG - access denied, must be logged on as administrator

When I run MSCONFIG, I get a message "Access denied, must be logged on as administrator to make changes" when I get out of it.  If I make a change, the change takes effect, so this isn't really "deny" me anything.  However, I get the message if I make a change or not.  By doing a few google' ing/forum tedious reading, it seems that there is a cut with Windows XP and Norton Internet Security 2010/2011.  It apparently does not on Windows 7 or Vista, or with NIS 2009.  It prevents me from doing anything, it's just a major nuisance.  I would like to check if this is the issue I'm having.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • How to get out the mode safe mode with msconfig.

I'm working on my computer and need to start in safe mode. I ran the msconfig and reboot the laptop. I get to the login screen, but when I get my username and password it tells me that the user name and password is not correct. How to get out the mode safe mode with msconfig.

When you run msconfig to get set to Safe Mode, you just activate/check the option/SafeBoot at startup. INI tab or did you do something else?

There is some malware that if you use the/SafeBoot option, you will not be able to use your system again until you remove the switch/SafeBoot the boot.ini for you can boot normally.

Maybe it's not your exact problem, but I will never suggest to anyone to use the option / SafeBoot never again - too risky when troubleshooting since you can always start new or will never connect again until you remove the switch/SafeBoot.

Anywho, if that's what you have done, you can start in the XP Recovery Console and then either make a new boot.ini file containing the switch/SafeBoot or simply rename the boot.ini file, you have something like boot.ini.old if you don't have a boot.ini file (I know it seems like a weird idea).

In a single partition configuration, XP is not even a file boot.ini to boot.  XP will complain if there is no boot.ini file, but will always start very well without one (non-believers - try it!).

After you get booted up and logged in, you can rename boot.ini.old in boot.ini and run msconfig to remove the option/SafeBoot, and never use it again.

I was going to use the System Configuration utility to troubleshoot my computer, but when I typed in msconfig in the run window, windows says it can't be found.  I am wanting to know how to get this option.

Try to run it from its original directory.  Navigate to:

  • In msconfig.

n msconfig, how will I know what I can and cannot turn off, in addition to the security features?

I think I have a lot of things running in the background and slowing me down.

There is really no good answer for this because there is no way to be sure of what you need... compared to what I need.  For example, I have no need for a printer monitor tell me what are the levels of ink in my printer, but perhaps you do. Maybe I need a wireless running network monitor, but you do not have.  There is really no guide "you need, you don't need that" MSCONFIG or any other method of disabling the programs and services in any version of Windows.

Your best bet is to go into Add/Remove programs and remove the things that you are sure you don't need.  If there is a program installed on your computer movie player and never watch you movies with it, uninstall the program.  If there's a sequel, that you never use fantasy disc burning, off he goes.
