  I've had my TOSHIBA Satellite L40-139 for more than a year. She was purchased by PC World and came with a preinstalled version of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium. I don't have the disc that came with the laptop, but the Windows installed is genuine.

  Your model of laptop is not delivered with the recovery disk, but with recovery image stored on the HARD drive. In s manuals document clearly describes that you must fund recovery DVD only tool preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator.

  Version of the OS pre-installed (Toshiba recovery image factory settings) is definitely authentic and I really don t understand how it can happen. I mean thousands of people do the same update, and there is no other claim on similar problems.

  Anyway, if you didn t create recovery disk you can try now is to reinstall the OS using the HDD recovery procedure. How to do this you can read in document http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm Toshiba FAQ
  This will remove all HARD drive, extract second partition so if you have some important data backup.

  My family has owned this office for six years now. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, and it was recorded and works fine until this morning.

  It is a problem best solved by Customer Service of Microsoft.  They have all the information they need to know that your copy of Vista is valid.  They helped me several times with similar situations.

  As an Overclocker, I installed and uninstalled Windows many times.  Microsoft will only allow us to activate our copies online a limited number of times.  It must be so, call them to get activated.

  OK, so I recently got a new computer parts, and with the new computer parts came a system restore. So I went ahead did system restore and had no problems, everything was an ok. Now, today, I start my pc to see "this copy of windows is not genuine" Whats all that way? I reinstalled windows 7 with built in the HP HARD drive Partition which holds a digital copy of windows for me restore several times before with no problems, now his screaming at me, saying: is not right? Please do help me, I don't want microsoft bursting through my door for "Copyright infringement" when its authentic = /

  Nevermind I fixed it all, thank God I still had my old box with the label top xD

• I just got a black screen with "this copy of Windows is not genuine".

  Well, I bought a computer off Craig's list this week. Yes, I know this isn't the safest place to get a computer, but what's done is done. The current operating system of the computer is Win7. However I just got the black screen with "this copy of Windows is not genuine". I looked at the back of the computer and saw that he has a real sticker Win XP Pro. So is there anyway I can just download XP Pro on this computer and be good from there?

  Check with the manufacture of the computer to see if you have a "recovery partition" and how to use it to restore XP or if they still have the support of Windows XP available with they can send you to usually a small fee.
