Multi file find/replace: XP

Good afternoon

When you try to do a find and replace (or just a find) through several files, HS no longer works. He could find not all instances of the search string in any document. If the search is done on a single document, then it indeed work.

With the help of HomeSite 5.5 (version 6.0.0.7658) on Windows XP Professional.

This happens on several computers at our location.

Thank you

Fred

I was able to get it working again by uninstalling HomeSite and then put it back.
There is probably a better way, but when all else fails reinstall and restart.

  • GREP find/replace + paragraph Styles

    Hello

    I'm editing a long document and have benefited from the assistance of the community already, but being new GREP Style, find/replace, I need to ask for additional help.

    Below a screenshot of the script (original). Two blocks of text you see anticipated by the icons have have styles of different paragraphs. Icons are placed like custom glyphs.

    Now, the last line with C2, 9, 14,... is the target of this post. They are buses of London and I created a paragraph with another icon. The copy that I work with unfortunately is as you see. Buses will follow «;»

    Resulting to place a \r after the semicolon and assign the new paragraph style. The item to work with is (probably) the last "," before the registration of the bus. All entries have it in the same way, where a search/replace global grep should work fine.

    My attempts:

    I used of a previous debate (? < =------;)) [^ ;] + $ to match everything from the end until the last semicolon, but then I found the problem preserving the matched characters and placing \r (using the (? < =-;). start at the beginning and stops at each point comma + space)

    So question: how to stop at the first semicolon at the end and replace the space with \r to create a new paragraph?

    Then, it is two question :-)

    From my previous attempts, I noticed that when you replace the semicolon + space with \r, and change the style of paragraph at a time (from Rail to Bus) caused the Rail paragraph style change (logic) to the style of Bus. So I tried to say the paragraph style of the track "Following paragraph Style is style of Bus" (and not to change the paragraph style in find/replace), but in a way that no longer works.

    Second question is: given to split the find/replace in two steps, how then transform / apply to newly created paragraph the correct style of Bus?

    Thank you in advance for your valuable assistance. So far, the community has been great!

  • InDesign CC Grep find/replace to replace the character of space per paragraph (fly)

    Hello InDesigners,

    I'm trying to clean up a 99 page document. In the file, titles of chapters, in capital letters, followed by a space, which is then followed with text more uppercase there. This always occurs at the beginning of a paragraph.

    I'm trying to target the space character that appears just after the number of chapter and Exchange to a number (fly).

    For example:

    CHAPTER 22 SUNDAY UNDERGROUND

    I want the Grep to change this as follows:

    CHAPTER 22

    SUNDAY UNDERGROUND

    I know that to do this job, I need to use positive look behind and positive Look Ahead, at first, I just tried to isolate CHAPTER 22 using the following:

    ^ \u{2,}\s\d+

    It worked. However, as soon as I cut and paste into P.L.B., find/replace says that it does not match.

    (?<=^\u{2,}\s\d+)\s

    The culprit seems to be the comma that comes just after the number 2. If I take, I get a match, but just not the one I wanted.

    Why P.L.B. does not accept the comma as part of the range in my definition grep?

    (FYI, I prefer to use wildcards with a specified scope, rather than literal text).

    It is indeed the comma, and the reason why it does not work because the flavor of InDesign's GREP does not allow a variable length argument in its lookbehinds. And the construction "has {x, y}" indicates a variable length.

    "Chapter" only you know how many characters to uppercase, and even the exact text, you can use

    (?<=^CHAPTER>

    the first chapters to a number, then

    (?<=^CHAPTER>

    for the rest. In your version of InDesign, I guess there is also a possible solution with the fairly new \K "forget - me" operator but I have not yet enough experience with that. It should look like this:

    ^ \u{2,}\s\d+\K\s

    but you will have to experiment a bit to see how to work with the replacement string.

    In addition, you should only use the name of "fly" for a character that looks like this: "¶". The code that you insert will call it a 'return' or 'paragraph return. Initially, I took your question literally, and it sounded as if you were after this result: "CHAPTER 22 ¶ SUNDAY UNDERGROUND"

  • Find/replace style cell with GREP

    Hi all, (my first post here)

    I found a script very useful on this forum to find/replace cell styles in an array. I adapted the script using Peter Kahrel ebook for use with a GREP query.

    I've linked to a spreadsheet in InDesign CC 2014 I want to highlight the cell of new products that contain the value [Y].

    When I run the script below, I get random results.

    myDoc = app.activeDocument var

    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null

    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "\[\u\"]

    var myFound = myDoc.findGrep)

    for (i = 0; i < myFound.length; i ++)

    {

    If (. parent.constructor.name myFound [i] == "Cell")

    {

    . parent.appliedCellStyle myFound [i] = "New_Product_Cell".

    }

    }

    Modify the script that I wrote above.

    Otherwise your discovery is just '[u]' ==> multi-ad found is--> Direct manufacturer name

  • Find + replace empty editable content area

    Nice day

    I created an editable region in a model specially designed for the follow-up of the pixels that change from time to time, depending on the service provider we use for campaigns. That's what the code looks like:

    <!-InstanceBeginEditable name = 'followed'--> <! - InstanceEndEditable - >

    We need to update this empty region with content on several pages 300 +, but the base Find & Replace will do, as it is a region locked in the child page and so - I think - is not "findable". Aside from manually update each page with the tracking pixel (sigh!), there's an ACE in the leg of someone to help me speed up this task?

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    You are right that you can't do this with DW. Best bet is to find another utility to do so. Notepad ++ is an option

  • How find/replace in italics in a PDF?

    I would change all the italics in a PDF document to a different font, so they will recognize when I convert the PDF into an InDesign file. For now they are fake italics of an embedded font, so when I convert the file they disappear and turn into regular text. I will change the fonts once I converted so I don't necessarily have to keep a font italicized, just something different, so I'll be able to change them later to italics. I tried a few sentences and makes them Times New Roman instead of Janson Text 55 Roman and when I converted they remained as Times New Roman and I could make them italic font. I was wondering if there is a way to search the entire PDF file and do a find/replace mass rather than scroll through the entire novel and change them manually?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Do it manually with the tool "edit text and Images?

  • Find/replace highlights the bad code

    Hi, if you use find it normal and the search for specific text in my AS3 class file, it highlights the right position where he finds corresponding text, but when I use the search/replace completely it messes up, it highlights the text wrong in my code, but it displays the correct position in the Find/Replace window. Is there a way to fix this, or is this a known bug? See attached screenshot.

    Hello

    Thanks for sharing the file.

    The problem is with the end of Line (EOL) character. The file uses a rating of CR at the end of his LIFE and has been used in Mac OS 9 and Mac OS 9 version. When a file is created using one of these versions of Mac OS and then the EOL character would be CR which is now obsolete and is not recognized by many modern text editors.

    If the EOL is LF or CR | LF then search and replace will work as expected in Flash CC.

    You can change the end of LIFE of the file to open and save the file in Wordpad that will change the EOL to CR | LF.

    Hope this information helps you solve your problem.

    Thank you!

  • Do find/replace multiple records at the same time?

    Hello

    I wonder if there is a way to apply the options find/replace, I select all the records that I have given merged in my InDesign file.

    Reserved spaces will not import my database spaces, example if I

    Model InDesign: < < bird > >

    < < beak > > < < beak value > >

    .csv:                              bird's beak,,, value of beak

    Eagle, beak:, Hung

    I get

    InDesign after the merger of data: Eagle

    beak: hung

    No spaces came with the merger.  If there is an option to preserve the spaces, it would be the simplest solution. However, I'm not finding such a command, so I would like to add a special character after my colon in the .csv and then use ID to find/replace this character in each of my files in a space or two.  Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    Edit: even on a single record, find/replace is not applied to my output document, either... Its release the special character that I wrote in the fields of .csv instead of space, it is supposed to transform.

    Yes.

    Make sure that you set the scope of the search and replace of the Document. He may have missed the selection or history.

  • Strange problem with find/replace

    I'll have a little strange problem with find/change in InDesign CS4 Mac.

    The document is a data merge.  In the worksheet, there are two fields that contain either a '@' or a '&', depending on the context.  These are just placeholders - the plan was to convert glyphs of the police 'Wingdings 2' after creating the merged document.  We do it this way because we couldn't figure out how to get the glyphs themselves in the .csv file.  Two glyphs are < FO54 > and < FO56 >.

    First I used find/replace to change all the '@' symbols to < FO54 >.  That has worked well. But then when I tried to change the symbols "&" < FO56 >, I got the < FO54 > again instead.  In fact, now I ask what glyph, I get < FO54 >.  Find/replace always normally works for normal text... it of just that he seems to have decided that if I ask a glyph, I get < FO54 >, anything.

    I tried to shut down and restart, but the bug is still there.

    Any thoughts?

    I used the tabs of glyphs in find/replace when I tested it, but what you describe seems to work as well.

  • Find/replace wildcards

    Greetings!

    I have a page that contains the code that is generated by a program that adds a javascript image gallery, which works fine, but the customer has requested to NOT to display the popup tooltips coming from the attribute "title" image when hovered by browsers. This software puts the name of the image file in the title and alt attributes of the code, and I want to do is use a find/change command to clear all the attributes title, but so far nothing I've come with works.

    I have literally hundreds of these images and two of each version small and large image... Since the alt tag is still there screen readers will be able to work, and we need not display titles that are not important...

    I'm not familiar with the method of this kind of coding find Dreamweaver and web pages I looked me have not given much to work with...

    Here is an example of the copied code from one of the pages:

    < div id = "vlightbox1" >

    "" < a class = "vlightbox1" href="data/images1/cimg4464.jpg" title = "CIMG4464" > < img src="data/thumbnails1/cimg4464.jpg" alt = "CIMG4464" / > < / has >

    "" < a class = "vlightbox1" href="data/images1/cimg5426.jpg" title = "CIMG5426" > < img src="data/thumbnails1/cimg5426.jpg" alt = "CIMG5426" / > < / has >

    "" < a class = "vlightbox1" href="data/images1/cimg5427.jpg" title = "CIMG5427" > < img src="data/thumbnails1/cimg5427.jpg" alt = "CIMG5427" / > < / has >

    "" < a class = "vlightbox1" href="data/images1/cimg5429.jpg" title = "CIMG5429" > < img src="data/thumbnails1/cimg5429.jpg" alt = "CIMG5429" / > < / has >

    "' Y at - it a find which can be built that would release the titles of"title ="" '?

    Thanks in advance!...

    As a backup, copy your page before doing so.

  • Find/replace in book

    Hello

    Is it possible to search a find/replace on an entire book, without having to open all documents at the same time or make a PDF?

    I'm using CS3 on Mac.

    Make a PDF file would lead you nowhere

    No - the only option is to find/replace in all documents open. This does exactly what you have discovered.

    InDesign has no problem at all with a lot of documents to open - do it all the time.

  • How can I Print "Find/replace" results?

    I use "find/replace" to locate all JPEG files currently used within a site.  How can I print the search results. Tróchez and paste does not work it would be useful to print the result, because they can number in the hundreds for the largest sites... Write the results is a real pain.

    The only solution I can think would be open to the top your search results Panel completely and do a Screengrab with screen printing, SnagIt or wisdom-Soft Screen Hunter Pro.

    Hi Jim,.
    A few thoughts on this...
    I used only the multi-fichiers find and replace facilities HR and experience with this I would be cautious as only see you the mode code and are to some extent "flying blind".

    Second thing, if find you a search and replace method that you like, perhaps consider replacing elements with variables that can be more easily updated when the inevitable next time comes...
